Coulson crouched down to Ward's level and ripped off the tape that was covering his mouth.

"What the hell, Coulson? Was that one of your guys?" Ward spat out, as Coulson removed Kara's tape as well.

"We don't have a clue who he was. What happened?" Coulson inquired.

Ward was about to reply when he saw Kayla sat up, and put a finger to her lips, indicating for him not to tell them that she had woken up.

"I thought it was Kara on the other end of the door, let her in and then…I don't she changed. It was that guy. He knocked me over the head and tied me up with her" Ward explained, as Kayla jumped up to the window ledge.

She looked back one last time and mouthed 'sorry' to him, which in return he winked to. She then jumped down from the window and Ward let out a relieved sigh.

"You guys are pretty dumb aren't you" Kara stated, shaking her head.

"What?" Skye asked, offended, as Kara indicated to the now empty space that Kayla had been.

"What the hell?! She was shot!" Coulson cried, as he ran over to the window ledge and once again found there was no one there.

"Dammit" Simmons mumbled, as everyone crowded around the window.

"What was that stuff that came out of her?" Skye questioned.

"I don't know, but it didn't look good" Coulson sighed.

"And who was that man? A shape shifter or something?" Skye asked.

"I don't know either, but at least one good thing came out of this, we can finally bring this son of a bitch to justice, isn't that right…Are you kidding me?!" Coulson yelled, when he turned around to see both Ward and Kara had also left when they weren't looking.

"She was right. We are pretty stupid" Hunter exclaimed.

9 months later

"Okay, Strike Team One to the left, you lot with me" Ward ordered, as they entered the abandoned warehouse.

"So what exactly did the report say?" Kara queried.

"Possible 0-8-4. Builders were doing construction work in this area, when a man showed up and killed one of them" Ward answered.

"How?" Kara asked, surveying the area.

"Just by touching them" Ward replied.

"Sir! There's movement in the back!" One of the soldiers called out.

Ward and Kara quickly followed and made their way in the back of the building. It was pitch black apart from the small light their torches provided, but Ward could at least hear something not far in front of them.

"Is that…blood?" Kara inquired, as her torch shone on a red looking substance.

"I thought you said that this man killed the builder just by touching him?...Who's blood is that?" Kara queried, a moment later.

"Sir!" The same soldier called out, as his torch shone on someone's back.

"Turn around, hands on your head, slowly!" Ward ordered, as the man on the ground ignored him.

"We will shoot" Kara warned the man, but still he didn't turn.

"He has a knife" The soldier informed them, seeing the glint of metal.

To prove a point, Ward shot at the side of the man, stunning him momentarily. Slowly, the man began to turn, shocking them all by what he was doing. He had cut off most of his cheek from his mouth and was in the middle of doing the same to the other side.

"What the hell?" Kara cried.

With a sinister smile, the man suddenly stood up, dropping the knife. He then started to move forward, as Ward and Kara began to shoot. Ward frowned as he saw that even though, the man had a whole mag emptied into him, he was still not slowing down.

"Back up! Back up!" Ward insisted, as they followed, still shooting.

"Shit, I'm out" Kara announced.

Using his last bullet Ward made sure he had a clear shot, and aimed it at the man's head. The bullet only momentarily stopped him, before he began to rush towards them.

"Duck!" They all heard a voice call out from behind them.

Without turning around, they all followed this order, seeing a Molotov cocktail fly over their heads. This instantly set the man on fire, finally stopping him in his tracks. The man then fell to the floor, only a blackened corpse now. Ward looked behind him, his eyes widening in shock when he saw who was standing behind him.

"Kayla?" Ward gasped.

"Watch out" Kayla warned him, looking at the corpse.

Ward frowned as he looked in that direction and saw a large shadow like being burst out of him. The shadow had a human like appearance as it looked at them all, as if studying them. It then shot past them, out of a nearby window and into the night.

"So…did you miss me?" Kayla smirked at him, as Ward slowly stood up.

"Hey, earth to Ward?" Kayla called out when she saw the dazed expression on his face.

Before she could say anything else he had practically leaped forward and pulled her into a tight hug, his arms wrapping around her. She tensed and didn't react for a few moments, not expecting that sort of reaction. After realising that he wasn't attacking her, she let herself relax and slowly slid her arms over his shoulders.

"I thought you were dead" He confessed.

"Did you not get the immortal memo?" Kayla laughed.

"I've had people looking for you ever since you left, but it was like you dropped off the face of the earth" Ward explained.

"Try I moved countries. I didn't know who was trailing me, I thought it might have been S.H.I.E.L.D" She stated.

Realising that he was still hugging her, he pulled back, glancing at the rest of his team who had witnessed the scene. Kara raised an eyebrow at him, but didn't look surprised.

"You should come with us. We have a lot to talk about" Ward suggested, as Kayla nodded.

Author's Notes: I hope you all enjoyed this chapter! The timeline is that we are now around midway through Season 3A. However, some things will be canon like they are on the show, like Simmons going through the portal, but not other things. I hope you guys will like these new turn of events, as things get darker. Please leave a review:)

Bebe558: Thank you so much! I hope you like the new direction:)

Koos: I love Fitz/Kayla's relationship too, things will get a bit rocky between Fitz and Skye, but they'll make up eventually I'm sure. They won't have any definitive proof that Fitz was involved, but I think they will be able to put two and two together. We will have to wait a bit longer to find out who that guy was.
