"So tomorrow you can go speak to the other Inhumans, I'm sure Pete will have told them you've arrived by now" Ward stated, as he led her down a corridor.
"Where are they all?" Kayla inquired.
"They live in a different part of the complex" Ward replied.
"How come?" Kayla asked, raising an eyebrow.
"They asked to. Most of them are new to their powers, and they don't want to hurt anyone…this is your room" Ward explained, as they stopped outside a door.
She opened the door to find a decent sized bedroom and an en-suite that looked ridiculously clean. They must have had cleaners in this room every week, she thought to herself.
"So this is just a spare room?" Kayla questioned.
"Well I thought…maybe one day you'd show up, so…" Ward trailed off, obviously embarrassed.
"You were keeping this room for me?" She queried.
"It's right next to the kitchen" He gestured a few doors down, making Kayla laugh.
"Oh, you remember the midnight snacks" Kayla nodded.
"More like 2 am, maybe 3" Ward retorted.
"Hey, I get hungry" Kayla stated, shoving his shoulder.
Ugh, I can't just fall into habits like this, she thought to herself. Her feelings weren't going to get in the way, not this time.
"So I'm guessing everyone's main objective here is to take S.H.I.E.L.D down?" Kayla suggested.
"It's kind of in the name" Ward mocked.
"Well what happens once the jobs done?" Kayla inquired.
"We dismantle ourselves. We're planning a large scale attack on S.H.I.E.L.D soon, and then after that we slowly disband" Ward informed her.
"So you'll be at a loose end?" Kayla questioned.
"Not quite. I was taken in by the US government about 8 months ago, served time for about 2 months. Then they gave me a deal, take S.H.I.E.L.D down and they would take time off my sentence, and I of course jumped at the chance" Ward went on.
"You'll go back to prison then?" Kayla queried.
"Depends on how messy this thing gets" Ward shrugged.
"You don't seem that worried" Kayla stated.
"The treatment in a government prison is surprisingly better than S.H.I.E.L.D's" Ward confessed.
"Well if you did find yourself with time on your hands…I could really use some help with this shadow thing" Kayla admitted.
"Look, everything is pretty much in place with our plan. Hell, I'm not even really needed anymore…I could help you out now, I mean if that's what you wanted…" Ward trailed off.
"Okay" Kayla replied.
"Really?" Ward asked, trying to keep the smile off his face.
"Sure, let's just get a few things straightened out first. If you even think about betraying me again, I will rip the skin of that pretty face of yours and leave you to bleed to death" Kayla told him.
"…You think my face is pretty?" Ward replied, a smug smirk on his face.
"Goodnight, Ward" Kayla said, shaking her head with a chuckle, as she closed the door to her room.
Ward turned around with a satisfied smile on his face and almost bumped into Kara.
"How long were you standing there?" Ward inquired.
"I've been hiding behind the corner for the past 5 minutes" Kara shrugged.
"You scare me sometimes" Ward informed her.
"You guys are adorable" Kara all but squealed.
"Oh, don't start" Ward retorted.
"I knew she'd be back. I just knew it. You better not screw things up this time, Ward. I want to live through your cute little romance" Kara added.
"Kar, there is no romance. There is no friends. There's ex-enemies who have realised it is in their best interest to work together…maybe one day we can work to becoming…teammates" Ward insisted.
"We'll see" Kara smirked.
Kayla woke up the next morning with a frown, not knowing where she was first of all. Once she remembered what was happening, she felt excitement and worry wash over her at the same time. She always loved meeting Inhumans, but after what had happened last time she tried to help her people, she didn't know if her being around made things worse. She got herself ready and was about to exit her room when there was knock at the door.
She opened it, a gasp coming out of her mouth a moment later when she saw who it was.
"Dr. Garner?!" She questioned.
"Hello Kayla" He smiled at her.
"What the hell are you doing here?" She inquired.
"I live here. Well, with the other Inhumans" Dr. Garner replied.
"Wait, other Inhumans?" Kayla asked, as she stepped out of her room.
"I'm guessing Mr. Ward didn't inform you. Seven months an Inhuman now" Dr. Garner explained, as they began walking.
"Small world, I guess…but what are you doing here? Why aren't you with S.H.I.E.L.D?" Kayla insisted.
"Their reaction towards me was…less than pleasing. I was cast out, more than that, I was hunted" Dr. Garner went on.
"Why?" Kayla queried.
"I suppose you'll find out sooner or later…when I was turned into an inhuman, I was also given a new mindset. I was…obsessed with killing other Inhumans" Dr. Garner informed her.
"…Do you still feel that way?" Kayla questioned, slightly worried.
"I'm getting better, lots of therapy. I can't tell you how embarrassing it is for a psychologist to have to go see a fellow psychologist" Dr. Garner sighed.
"You killed people?" Kayla asked.
"Yes, I did. Many" Dr. Garner said, shaking his head.
"Everyone who I've met in the last few years seems to be a killer, even I am. At least you feel regret" Kayla suggested.
"Its still not enough...I've been trying to devote my time to helping other Inhumans to get away from S.H.I.E.L.D" Dr. Garner stated.
"You don't believe in their cause anymore?" Kayla inquired.
"After they tried to kill me countless times instead of helping me…Lets just say I've had a change of heart" Dr. Garner told her.
Author's Notes: I hope you all enjoyed this chapter! Sorry I forgot to update yesterday, I completely forgot. So, Garner is here as well! Just to point out in my story no POC are going to be killed like they are so often in the show (I'm still bitter, sorry). Please leave a review:)
Koos: I'm glad you like this new group! Yes, I am planning later down the road for them to fight the Secret Warriors, we will have to see if they are willing to put their organisations before their people or not.
Castiel Angel Heart: It is rather confusing, I understand. The easiest way I can explain it, is the bullet had a substance on it, that basically let the shadows manifest, and be able to leave Kayla. But don't worry, we understand more in time, and people's motives. Anything is better than Ward going Hydra, it was just so ridiculous. Well, S.H.I.E.L.D is certainly going down a bad path, and they need to be stopped, the problem is they don't seem to realise how far off the deep end they've gone.
Secret-writer91: Thank you! Yeah, there was no way in my mind that Ward was going down that road.
Tiffany: Thank you! I'm glad you like the plot, and don't worry, Ward and Kayla will get together again, they just need to build their relationship back up.
