"I want to tell Fitz the truth" Ward then blurted out.
"Wait, what?" Kayla frowned.
"I don't want to deceive him again…he did save my life" Ward stated.
"He's saved my life in the past too, but isn't it a risk? What would the others say?" Kayla inquired.
"That it's unnecessary. But I trust Fitz and I don't believe he'd would drop us in it" Ward explained.
"Why are you so sure?" Kayla asked.
"He's been our inside man. He's been giving us information for months" Ward confessed.
"Why?" Kayla queried.
"After he helped you escape, he called me back and said he-" Ward started, but Kayla cut him off.
"What do you mean he called you back?" Kayla questioned.
"He called me and Kara, asking how to help you escape" Ward admitted.
"I never…I didn't know that" Kayla said, a small smile on her face.
"Well it was really Kara who figured it all out, she's the brains behind the operation" Ward went on.
"You're not too bad" Kayla shrugged.
"Really?" Ward asked, with a lopsided grin.
"Yep. So, we're going to tell Fitz. But how?" Kayla asked.
The next morning, Kayla went over to the lab, the plan in place. She needed to somehow lure Fitz into Ward's room, so that they could tell him what was going on undetected. Of course, Fitz wouldn't be able to stay long, as it already would look suspicious. Once she entered the lab, she was surprised to see that there were many scientists shuffling around the room, but she couldn't see Fitz. She was about to leave, figuring that maybe he had another lab now, when she noticed a small table at the back of the room, with a man leaning over it.
"Fitz?" She called out, cautiously approaching the man.
Kayla couldn't keep the smile off her face when he turned around and she saw the man who she felt had become her best friend. She leaned forward, wanting to hug him, but quickly stopped herself.
"Can I help you?" He asked.
"…Um, yes. I…My friend, he has asthma. And it's been pretty bad recently, but we didn't want to ask one of the doctors. Could you maybe…?" She trailed off.
She clearly remembered Fitz telling her that his best friend growing up, had very severe asthma, and so he was very experienced on the matter. He was even thinking of trying to find a cure one day.
"Uh, yes, of course" Fitz nodded, somewhat awkwardly, as Kayla began to walk them out the lab.
As they walked back to Ward's room, Kayla couldn't keep the grin on her face down. It was so great to see Fitz again after so long. However, he seemed a little creeped out by this action.
"Do…do I have something on my face?" He frowned.
"Oh, no. I was just…never mind" Kayla laughed, as they came to Ward's room.
"He's in here" She mumbled, opening the door for him to walk through.
"Hello, Fitz" Ward announced, as Kayla closed the door behind them.
Fitz seemed to notice a sudden change in the room, and looked behind him to look at Kayla suspiciously.
"What's going on?" Fitz inquired.
In response, Kayla raised her hand to her face, and began to peel her mask off. Fitz's eyes widened as she did this, a moment later, his face turned into delight.
"Kayla?!" He gasped, as she rushed over to him, pulling him into a fierce hug.
"I've missed you so much" She cried, biting down a few tears.
"How are you here? Why are you here?" He questioned, pulling away.
"I'm with the F.A.S now, so I think the motive is pretty obvious" She explained.
"Who's he?" Fitz nodded, over to Ward.
"Please try not to freak out…" Kayla trailed off, as Ward began to remove his mask.
"You" Fitz exclaimed, looking at Ward with an unreadable expression.
"Me" Ward sighed.
"So, this is phase two then?" Fitz asked, a moment later.
"We've gone undercover to gather the security details" Kayla stated.
"Well that won't be easy, they've heightened security in the past month. They know something's going to happen soon. Which sectors security codes do you need?" Fitz queried.
"All of them" Ward admitted.
"Jesus…well I might be able to help you get the science divisions codes, but I'm a Level 1 agent now, there's no way I could get you anything else" Fitz confessed.
"Hold up, Level 1? How come?" Kayla frowned.
"Coulson knows I helped you escape. He doesn't know how, so he can't prosecute me, but he's made it so I have basically no power anymore. And besides, everyone treats me like a leper nowadays" Fitz sighed.
"Even Simmons?" Kayla asked.
"I've barely talked to her in the past month. She's mad at me…because of what I did" Fitz exclaimed, ushering to Ward.
"About that…I…I never got to say-" Ward started, but Fitz cut him off.
"I didn't do it for you. I did it for Simmons. I didn't want her becoming a killer…but it didn't work anyway" Fitz admitted.
"What do you mean?" Kayla queried.
"Do you remember Bakshi?" Fitz questioned Ward.
"Of course I do. He's the one who brainwashed Kara" Ward stated.
"And then you brainwashed him. He was trying to protect you…he was trying to stop Simmons from attacking you, there was a struggle, and he ended up with a splinter bomb on his chest. I only realised after I saved you what happened…she's been different ever since. It's like…I don't know, she's turned off her emotions. Just like that" He explained, snapping his fingers.
"Compartmentalized" Ward suggested, as Fitz nodded.
"I'm sorry Fitz" Kayla said, squeezing Fitz's shoulder.
She had always known how much Fitz cared about Simmons, it must have hurt him to see her change so much.
"I do know who you'll need to talk to, to get the other security codes" Fitz announced.
"How many divisions are there?" Kayla inquired.
"There's the weapons division, soldier's division, Inhumans division and the Director's division" Fitz replied.
"Of course Coulson would have a whole division all for himself" Ward scoffed.
"Wait, there's an Inhuman division? You told me they were experimenting on them?" Kayla accused Ward.
"It depends" Ward shrugged.
"On what?" Kayla queried.
"On whether they're valuable enough. If you are they treat you like a pet, if you're not they cut out whatever they find interesting. It's part of the reason I joined F.A.S" Fitz answered.
"Who's in charge of the division?" Kayla inquired.
"Daisy" Fitz told her.
Author's Notes: I hope you all enjoyed this chapter! Yay, Fitz is back, I love writing his relationship's with the others. There isn't going to be any Bad!Daisy in this story by the way, but she is having a lot kept from her. Please leave a review:)
Secret-writer91: I hope I explained Fitz's decisions a bit better in this chapter! S.H.I.E.L.D are most certainly out of control, aren't they?
Koos: I don't think May's really a bad person, but I do feel like she needs someone to pull her back. I'm glad you understand the rest of the team's actions in this story, its going to be really interesting seeing how they all interact together.
