Kayla walked into the diner, holding her breath as she spotted Steve Rogers, sitting with a cap on in the corner. He seemed to think his disguise was very good, but you could spot him from a mile away. She went to sit opposite him as he gave her a surprised look. He obviously hadn't been expecting a small girl, who looked like she hadn't slept in weeks.

"Where's Bucky?" He blurted out, straight away.

"He's fine, for now" Kayla told me.

"If you hurt him, I swear to God, I will-" Steve began to threaten her, but she cut him off.

"It's not me you need to be worrying about. I'm trying to help him" She stated.

"What do you mean?" Steve frowned.

"I'm working undercover and he was brought in last week. We think they want to re-programme him" Kayla explained.

"You're a double agent?" Steve questioned.

"I need your help in getting him out. He's not my top priority at the moment, but I know he's yours" Kayla exclaimed.

"Tell me where he is and I can go get him right now" Steve insisted.

"I can't do that. We need the distraction for the invasion" Kara informed him.

"Invasion?" Steve asked.

"We're trying to bring a corrupt organization down and your friend is right in the middle of it" Kayla went on.

"Which organization?" Steve inquired.

"…S.H.I.E.L.D" She replied, after a moment.

"S.H.I.E.L.D fell years ago" Steve retorted.

"Yeah, I wish. Coulson started it up again and now…its basically turned into Hydra. Experiments, locking people up, trying to control the world…" Kayla trailed off, shaking her head.

"Agent Coulson is alive?" Steve queried.

"He's the one who locked your friend up in the first place" Kayla stated.

"What? Coulson would never do that. He's a good man" Steve insisted.

"Maybe when you knew him. But he's changed" Kayla exclaimed.

"He died trying to save the world. I trust him with my life" Steve went on.

"Do you have any idea how many people that man has killed? How many lives he destroyed? He locked me up in a cage for six months just because he could!" Kayla said, growing angry.

"…I need proof" Steve replied.

"Fine. Meet me at this warehouse, 8pm. I'll show you" Kayla announced, handing him the address.

Before Steve could say anything else, she had stormed off, annoyed that he didn't seem to believe what she had said about Coulson.

That night, Steve cautiously walked around the warehouse he had been told to go to, checking the surrounding area for traps. Once everything seemed secure, he entered the abandoned building, finding only a few computers and guns in the middle. He spotted the girl from before quickly, and two other men.

"Glad you could make it" Kayla called over to him, sarcastically.

"Captain America, can I just say what an honor it is to meet you?" The smaller man suddenly rushed up to him, holding his hand out.

"Um, right" Steve said, awkwardly, not knowing what to say.

He heard the girl laughing lightly at this, finding it amusing.

"Where's the rest of your men? There can't just be three of you" Steve queried.

"Just for this operation there is. Coulson's been informed of the invasion, so we know there's a mole on our team. Only the three of us know anything about your friend" Kayla explained.

"You said you had proof?" Steve insisted, as Kayla nodded.

"Here's a live feed" She replied, pressing a few buttons and then a picture of a cell came up.

He instantly spotted the man in the corner, curled up on the tiny bed. His hair was covering most of his face, but Steve could still tell it was Bucky. He looked to the bottom of the screen and saw the time and date matched up. He then saw the words Vault D, which made his blood boil. They had caged him like an animal. Just like Hydra. The girl then changed the feed to a few hours earlier, as Steve's eyes widened as he saw the man he thought was dead walk in. He couldn't hear what they were saying, but from the way that Bucky flinched, he could tell it wasn't good. Coulson really was a bad guy.

"Believe me, now?" Kayla inquired, as he nodded.

"How are they treating him?" Steve asked.

"Well if its anything like they treated me, probably barely any food or water and keeping the lights on all night" Kayla mumbled.

"You were in the same Vault?" Steve frowned.

"They both were" Fitz stated.

This made Steve look to the other man in the room, who hadn't uttered a word since he had walked in. He seemed to not be able to look him in the eye, which Steve found strange.

"When the invasion happens, we want to get Bucky out at the same time. Do you think you could help with that?" Kayla asked, changing the subject.

"I'll do anything" Steve confessed.

"Good. Because you might have to. I can probably take down the cell walls, but his has armed guards outside his door. He won't be able to take them all on. It's going to be chaos in there" Kayla explained.

"I'll do it. When's the invasion?" Steve queried.

"Three days" Kayla stated.

Steve decided he couldn't bite his tongue for any longer, and tilted his head to the man who hadn't spoken.

"I recognize you from somewhere. Have we met before?" Steve asked, as the man simply shook his head.

"You used to be S.H.I.E.L.D agent?" Steve suggested, as the man nodded.

"What's your name?" Steve inquired, as he saw the others all flinch.

Contrary to his blonde looks, Steve wasn't stupid and could easily piece all that information together.

"You're Hydra" He spat out.

"Used to be" The man finally spoke.

"You're working with a Nazi?" Steve questioned Kayla.

"Hey, don't speak to him like that" Kayla said, standing up, protectively.

"I can't work with a man like him. I won't do it!" Steve insisted, growing angry.

"You're just going to bail on your best friend, just like that?" Kayla shouted at him.

"I want him gone" Steve cried.

"He's not going anywhere" Kayla retorted.

"He's evil. He'll betray all of us" Steve told her.

"You don't even know him!" She shouted, shoving him, with a surprising amount of strength.

Suddenly she began to wheeze, and cough, and before Steve knew it she had vomited up blood on the floor. Ward quickly ran to her side, picking up a bucket from the corner and taking her hair out of her face. He rubbed her back as he muttered soothing words in her ear, as she continued to vomit blood. Steve watched this entire interaction, realizing that the man, obviously cared greatly for the girl. Could anyone truly be evil if they loved someone so much, Steve thought to himself.

Author's Notes: I hope you all enjoyed this chapter! I'm not sure how you guys feel about me adding a bit of Steve and Bucky to this story, but I've always felt that there were quite a few parallels between them and Ward and Kayla. Please leave a review:)
