A/N:
@MichiruLeIdiota: Wait. Shouldn't I be the one congratulating you? You made it to the honors! That's a huge feat rather than mine! Good job! Blue is a good enough name. Haha. Calling me Boyish is pretty awkward. And the answer for your question of who's next to Bermuda is in this chapter. Hahaha. Try guessing who's the next one. As I said, congrats! Ira will be somewhere there, over there. Maybe two chapters away or something. Haha.
@acertainpasserby: Thank you. Well, Iemitsu needs to be acknowledge. There are times that airheads like him doesn't know what was best for his family, so he did what he could do. I read too much story bashing on him that I wanted something new for awhile. As for Lambo and Ryohei, these two were like the closest in the canon. Like Takeshi and Hayato, Chrome and Mukuro, Kyouya and Hibird, then Tsuna and Reborn. Bermuda and Tsuna is cute too! Though it stills at the line of friendship. Viper and Skull tandem is a goal thing. They compliment each other. I'm glad it made you smile. And Reborn is repenting already! Hahaha. Though, he does deserve this punishment. Anyways, the next contractor will be revealed on this chapter. Thank you again!
@michiko-chan27: Whee! A smile is almost as heartwarming as a review. Thanks God it stayed. I might change the rating in the future chapters. And yes. No more of that scene. I cannot. Hahaha! Too amateur for it. Probably because this is my first R27 fic, with the possibility of last too. Who knows. Thank you though.
So thanks for the other reviews! Here's the last update of this week. Hope you like it. Hahaha. I don't know if it's as enlightening as the others, but yeah. Fingers crossed.
Anyway, onwards!
Chapter Thirty-Seven
"Na Verde."
"Hn."
"Have you been outside?"
"No."
"Like outside the hotel we stayed, or outside the campus, outside this house. Just technically outside and killing boredom by strolling around."
"No."
"Okay."
Tsuna stared at the ceiling of the living room which has drawings on them (his grandfather's idea. Just remembering how hard and funny it was to draw those figures when he was still a kid makes him smile). He just finished reading one of the books the lightning arcobaleno had given to him. It was written in Hebrew, and his Jii-jii wants to read it too.
He's thinking of something. Like just to have fun. The others were on their missions since yesterday and Verde decided to pop up today to read at a quiet place (is the Arcobaleno house that lonely?). And since the scientist was practically a hermit up until today, he wanted to do something that can benefit the other. Just make him put a leg out of his haven before leaving him to decide if he want to go back to his haven or not.
"Na Verde."
A sigh. "Yes."
"Let's eat something."
"You may cook."
Tsuna tilted his head to look at his companion. "No. Not that. Food from outside."
"A... Food trip then?"
"Yup!" The brunet answered enthusiastically before calming down when he saw the hesitation on those green eyes. "Is something wrong?"
"No. Nothing." The Lightning denied.
The Sky flipped over so he could lay on his stomach and face the Arcobaleno. "Is it the thought of going outside?" Silence. "I understand. Let's just say we aren't ready to see the world yet."
The Lightning stared at him before a small smile graced his lips. "Thank you."
Tsuna grinned.
"You're messy." Verde perked up to see Reborn descending the stairs. "And not doing anything scientific."
"It's nothing." The scientist clipped as he adjusted his folded right sleeves. He left his gown in his room before settling on the living room sofa. At some point, his room became unbearable to stay in. It was too... Quiet. He even contemplated sleeping on the couch just to get out of there (he did sleep on the settee though).
"Something is bothering you." The hitman went inside the kitchen. "Want some coffee?"
"If this is an act of reconcilement, no thank you."
"You wound me, Verde." The black clad demon dramatically voiced as he put two mugs on the table. "I know it's about Tsuna."
The Lightning watched the other sat on his opposite. "You aren't bitter about it?"
"So-so." The demon answered as he drinks. "But it can't be helped. Even if I hid him from the world, he'll eventually be found. Things are bound to happen."
Silence.
Verde stared at Reborn then looked at the mug filled with fragrant lemon tea. The latter had been pretty quiet since the day Tsunayoshi went home. He hadn't done any destruction nor any amusing, somewhat irritating, jeering on the other Arcobaleno. Maybe the thought of them being angry on him made him a little sensitive. Why would they be angry at him though? Is it because of Tsunayoshi?
Well, yes. He got a little... Pissed (is that the right word?) or annoyed of what the hitman did to Tsunayoshi. He saw how bad the child's back wounds and other injuries when they were attacked by Byakuran, yet the brunet persisted to go to Fiant and make another contract with Reborn with his modified incantation. Verde knows that he's not as important as the hitman. Heck, he's not even close with the kid. Their only connection was the fact that the human borrowed books for his research on the seven deadly sins.
He doesn't even know why he goes to the human. He had been pondering over the reason since he came back yesterday, but he came up with nothing. What's in Tsunayoshi that made Verde the scientist so attached?
"Did you know that Tsuna never had a friend since he was four." Reborn said as he flipped through a thick pile of paper. "It takes courage for him to talk to anyone or invite someone. When he has something you want, he'll hand it to you because he got nicked at the head by a dagger when he was young. Some fucked up kid threw it at him when he wanted to see how beautiful the craft was."
Verde didn't respond.
"Did he invite you to do something?" The Sun eyed him, daring to negate.
The Lightning nodded. "Yes."
"Accept it." The scientist was about to speak when the hitman continued. "It has been years since you did something out of your zone."
"My zone is out of your business, Reborn." He gritted.
"Tsuna is trying to invite you to see the outside world, oh great one. See the difference between the things you saw years ago and the now. A good reference for studies. Probably get books that can help you when you're stuck on something. I bet you got fascinated with all the things you saw in his house. Think about it, great scientist. If you got intrigued by the facility of the hotel, what more in the world outside his house?"
Verde blinked. Why didn't he think of that?
The hitman smirked in smugness, making the scientist want to erase it. "He might've backed down after noticing how hesitant you were, but that doesn't mean it's not open up until he dies."
"Why are you okay with this?" He couldn't help asking. "You adore Tsunayoshi. You should be angry that I'm going to spend sometime with him. That he has three other contracts apart from you."
"Because he's a sky. He needs his elements. And since we're a full set plus a dual aura demon, he can have us all. We can balance him too since he can't continuously contain that massive amount of aura in his body. If he does, he'll die." Then those onyx eyes glowed yellow, threatening. "But Tsunayoshi Sawada as a human is mine. We can share the sky, but he's only mine as a whole. No one will claim his feelings other than me."
Verde considered his next question. Reborn's insights about things are pretty gold, as pricey as Viper's information. "Then why am I feeling attached to him? This isn't like what I felt with Luce."
"Don't compare what you felt with Luce and your feelings now with Tsuna. Luce never pushed us to take steps. Have you seen her forcefully barging in your room? Or approached you in a sarcastic, witty way? Even visit you in the middle of the night just to get a book and arrange your room as she searched for the lit she wants to read? No. Have you met anyone who is as well read as Tsuna is even at his young age? No." Reborn sipped on his coffee before holding the mug with both hands, elbows on knees with legs apart. It's like the hitman is trying to make a point even though he's staring at the black liquid. "You feel attached because he can keep up with you. Like Skull, you found a kindred spirit with an old courageous soul. You're questioning yourself because he has something you don't have. And you know what that is. In return, think of something he doesn't have but you do."
Verde nodded slowly before taking his mug and went for the stairs. "Any message to give to Tsunayoshi?"
"Nah." He looked back to see the sun arcobaleno contently smiling down at the papers in front of him. "Not seeing him, nor hearing from him is my punishment. He doesn't need my presence yet, so I'll wait for his call."
Verde nodded slowly again before continuing. That talk they had gave him a page of Reborn's old self. He's much stable now, and mellow. It's like the hitman from Hell is slowly coming back from his overdue vacation.
Tsuna stared at Bermuda and the other stared back. Left hand on the Night's right shoulder just like how the other put his left on the Sky's right shoulder, and all right hands in a handshake. Glancing at his right where Viper, Skull and Verde were, he smiled when the two of his contractors pouted and Verde bopped their heads at their childishness. The brunet could only laugh before nodding at Bermuda who was smiling while watching him.
"Colors of elements, hand and hand, with both bloods, we seal our bond." Both said together, and the inner circle glowed. The dodekagram with four overlapped triangles glowed as same circle appeared in the sky and made a cylindrical shield around them.
"Knot the wreathe, knot the faith." A triangle shined.
"Two placed desires be obtained." The other triangle brightened.
"I shall be your chain, your porter and your searcher, my sky." Bermuda promised. A triangle alight.
"I can't promise you anything other than assurance of finding me, Bermuda. The assurance that I'll be fine, that you'll find me if you feel my aura." Tsuna pledged with certainty, and the last triangle illuminated.
"I give the contract," The Night stated, and the words written on the triangles haloed.
"I trust the end." The Sky added, the words underneath them kindled.
Tsuna's jaw dropped when he saw Bermuda's demon form. He was entirely made of miasma, creating a figure of a demon with a wispy cloak and a tall top hat that has glowing dark blue eyes. He looked so cool and evolved. The display only remained for a sec before he went back to human form.
'Woah.' He thought as they proceeded the contract.
"Breach the oath in due time length." The outer circle blazed after the guaranty.
"May both lives prosper as what yearned are granted." And they lit up.
Tsuna waited... And it came. It was a little stronger than Viper, but bearable. He rolled his shoulders to accommodate the pressure of the high demon. The more he experience it, the more he become used to it. So far, Reborn is still the strongest among all the power he had felt, it justifies how fitting his title is.
On the other than though, Bermuda's knees buckled up and eventually keeled on one knee. He was breathing hard as a strong pressure from above press him down to the Earth. He can't even hear Tsuna calling him, but he did feel the squeeze. He squeezed back and tried to regain his composure. When he did, he felt a soothing thrum of sky aura flooding in his system from the spot where Tsuna's mark must be. He sighed at the relief that was given to him, erasing all the pressure that was pulling him down.
"You okay?" Tsuna asked as he helped him up.
"Yes. You're such a powerful sky, Tsunayoshi." Bermuda praised as he stood up.
The brunet went red. "Don't regard me that high, Bermuda."
Verde approached the two. Taking Tsuna's hand, he pulled summoner towards the door in the backyard. The three summons started to shout in complain about taking their sky away from them, but the Lightning didn't heed. He wants to spend some time with the Sky, and he will do it now that he has enough courage.
They went to the streets and started to wonder around. The scientist constantly looks back to check on the child, who is looking around like he just saw the place. It was rather odd since the kid had been going in and out of the house for the past week. Though Viper told him awhile ago that Tsuna hadn't been out of the house for three days.
Let's just say the Mist hinted that he was the cause of that.
"Oh! Oh! Ramen! I wanna eat ramen!" Tsuna exclaimed.
Verde nodded and pulled the other to the stand. "Okay. Let's go."
When they're inside, Verde nudged the child to take what he wanted. Tsuna's eyes were twinkling when he ordered a Sapporo Ramen. The Lightning went for Kumamoto and paid for the food. When he looked back to the brunet, he saw the latter staring at him with a shock face.
"What?" He asked, a little peeved.
"You have a lot of money, Verde." The child commented as he led them to a table near the counter. "Took them from your savings?"
"Yes. I wanted to treat you." The scientist affirmed as he took the chair from the child and pulled it back with enough space for Tsuna to sit before pushing it a little when he wanted to adjust. "Good?"
"Y-Yeah. Thank you." The child answered softly, a little flustered.
"Did I do something embarrassing?" He asked whilst sitting on his own spot, in front of Tsuna.
The other shook his head. "No! I'm just a little surprised. You're a gentleman."
The demon only gave a small smile.
"But really, you are. It was unexpected of you. But who am I to assume things, right? The reason why we're here is to get to know each other. Probably know what we have in common that we can talk about, then," The human wiggled his eyebrows jokingly with a cheeky grin on his lips. "we can have an agreement of being friends for life."
Verde scoffed. "Yeah right."
"Eh. Don't talk with a dot, Verde-chan." Tsuna wiggled a finger in front of him. "You'll change your mind after our little hang out ends."
The Lightning rolled his eyes before reaching a hand out. "Hand."
Tsuna tentatively gave his hand. Taking out a bottle of antiseptic, Verde took three tissues on the holder and poured a good amount of the liquid on the them. He dabbed the wet tissues on the bloody hand, a little careful with the wound. The brunet only watched, flinching here and there with the sting of the cut. But when the Arcobaleno started to wipe off the blood, the child started to giggle as if being tickled.
The Lightning only gazed at the human with amusement after he let go of the hand as the server put their orders on the table. Tsuna thanked the waiter who blushed at the gesture before skirting away. Verde put the tissues and antiseptic bottle away before taking a pair of chopsticks, took a quick sniff of the food before separating the sticks and about to start eating when he saw Tsuna.
The brunet was about to add something on the ramen. Quickly looking around, he stopped the hand that was about to reach out on some seasonings. He directed it on the tissue and tapped the child's back hand.
"You're a Japanese, yet you do not know the etiquette of eating ramen?" Verde queried playfully.
Tsuna laughed nervously as he took some of the tissue. "Sorry. Three years is a long time. I got used to adding sauce to the meat immediately whenever I see it."
"Taste it first, child." Verde ordered. "Ramen broth is hard to make."
"I know. Kaasan has troubles in that field too." And the child took a slurp on the noodles. He made an 'uwah' sound and looked at the demon with awe. "It's so delish!"
"And you were going to add sauce." The scientist mumbled under his breath as he took some noddles too. "Don't forget your Nori. They'll get saggy if you ignore them for later."
"Yes Sir." And the kid cut the Nori in small pieces with his chopsticks. "You're really good at this, Verde."
"Maybe."
After they finished eating, with Tsuna occasionally chiming things here and there to fill in the silence, they thanked the chef before going out with a parting nod. Verde was led to an arcade in the town. They tried a bunch of games, though he was the one frequently trying them out because the brunet can't do things right.
It was easy to guide Tsuna what to do since the kid listens carefully to the instructions and guidelines before trying them out. Sometimes, he'll get it at one or two tries. And rarely goes for several times. At some point too, he went for the crane and gained a lion stuffed toy. It reminds him of Tsuna with it's mane.
"Where to next?" He asked as they went out of the arcade.
Tsuna hummed. "What do you want to do next, Verde?"
The Lightning studied the child as he thinks. "Do you know a stall here that sales crepe?"
"Yes!" The human answered with a wide smile.
They went to a stall. He made Tsuna do all the talking for them. He noticed the child not looking at the server in the eyes, only up to the menu. When they finished ordering, they waited a little for the cook to assemble their order before going away with crepes in hands.
They walked around eating them, looking for some next food. They alternatively suggest a food to try. Sometimes look inside a good looking or an interesting store (he doesn't know how Tsuna was able to pull him inside a women's shop and an occult shop (or was he the one who dragged the brunet to the latter?)). They even visited a key chain store. On this though, Verde didn't notice the child purchasing two key chains, he only found out when he was handed the item. It was a small alligator with his name on it. Tsuna was a 'x' key chain. And lastly, they ended up in a book store where he purchased a lot of interesting books (and bought the books that he saw Tsuna was eyeing).
Eventually the day ended with full stomachs, one stuffed toy in hand (Verde), a paper bag of woman clothe (Nana), two key chains, books and big cups of ice creams for both of them.
Verde stared at the sky with varied colors as he licked his cold treat. He admits that today was fun. Other than he enjoyed every food he ate, he also saw interesting things here and there. He got to observe Tsuna from morning till now, and he saw what others see into him. Why they like Tsuna's quirkiness and way of thinking.
"Ah! I see a Verde!" Tsuna shouted as he pointed at a cloud.
Verde squinted his eyes before glaring at the kid. "It's a boat, Tsuna."
"Eh? No. It's Verde for me. We just have different perspective about it."
The Lightning sighed. "You're impossible."
"Skull said that to me too."
"Do you know what that means though?"
"Uhm..." Tsuna started to think as he bit the cone. "I'm too hard to handle?"
"You're stupid." The scientist sighed, making the brunet yell a 'hey' in indignation. "You're insufferable, impossible, intolerable because you're adorable." He smirked when red scattered on the child's face. "You made Reborn admit defeat. You gave Viper enough confidence to remove his hood and make you see his face when he won't appear like that to us. You attacked Skull's mask and successfully broke it. You made the restless Bermuda settle. You don't know how many times Colonnello or Lal had to doze him with a lot of rain aura just to knock him off. You're impossible because you can do impossible things. Things that can't be done by others."
The brunet spluttered.
"Give me your hand." Verde demanded after finishing his treat.
Tsuna gave his hand. Verde traced Viper's mark. It was a green frog with a white lotus in front and two flow-y violet, almost indigo, lines on the back that indicates mist. On the lotus was Viper's name in business-like fonts. The Lightning almost rolled his eyes, relatively saying 'how typical', before his eyes showed interest when the symbol glimmered with indigo light.
As if sensing his little curiosity, Tsuna took off his shoes on his left foot, and lifted the hem of his pants before folding the sleeve of his shirt to his shoulder blades. Verde took the foot gently, put it on his lap and let the child adjust to sit properly. He inspected Skull's symbol. It's a white wolf with black eyes and fur around his neck while facing right. Behind it was a cumulus purple cloud. Skulls name was written on the fur with easy font. A little surprising since the scientist expected him to have a heavy gothic font.
Tsuna sat right again as he licked his remaining ice cream and showed his right shoulder where the night arcobaleno's symbol was. Bermuda's symbol was rather unusual. Head to half torso of a black panther inside a white circle that was outlined with the color black. It's eyes were white, the front paws were straightened in its front, and it looked dangerous with its chin down as if waiting for a moment to strike with accuracy. Just like how Bermuda works on his missions. The Night's name was written on the body to the arms using a noble like font, which was expected since Tsuna did point out the new Arcobaleno's olden manners.
Like Viper's, the two symbols shined with purple and white colors, respectively. It was rather unusual since he hadn't seen such kind of reaction nor trait in a contract symbol. Probably, it has something do with the deal they make or the trust the human gives to his summoners.
"What about Reborn's?" He asked, and nearly regretted inquiring when the child made a sad smile. "Is it fading?" He questioned again, but in a small voice.
"No. It just turned grey after I put a barrier in the middle of our connection." Tsuna answered in a soft voice.
"You can see or feel the connection?" He queried, a little curious.
The child's eyes glimmered in excitement, as if ready to rely what he had found out. "Yes."
Brows were lifted. "Humor me, child."
