Ward watched as his old team was led one by one into Vault D, and was surprised that he didn't feel good about it. It just seemed sad to him to think this was where they had all ended up, and he still felt some of it was due to him.

"Back where they all belong" Kara announced, walking towards him.

"And me too" Ward sighed.

"What?" Kara frowned.

"Everyone's being tried for their crimes, and I have so much blood on my hands. I'm sorry Kara, but I'm going to be going to prison for a very long time" Ward explained.

"But you helped, we couldn't have done this without you!" Kara exclaimed.

"Maybe I won't get a life sentence" Ward shrugged.

"Or one at all if you're lucky" A deep voice boomed.

"Excuse me? Who are you?" Ward inquired.

"My name is General Cairo; I've been in charge of trying to track down S.H.I.E.L.D ever since they fell. And you managed to do all this in under 6 months, I have to admit I'm impressed" He informed them.

"I had a good team with me" Ward replied.

"Yes, I've heard a lot about that" Cairo said, as Kayla entered the room.

"I've been telling General Cairo about the shadow threat. And he thinks that you should help" Kayla grinned.

"It would keep you out of jail, son. Get even more time of your sentence" Cairo went on.

"I want to do whatever I can to help" Ward nodded, with a smile.

"And of course that goes for you two, Ms. Palamas" Cairo offered.

"I'd be happy to accept" Kara admitted.

"Now…what to do with this bunch" The General sighed, as he took away the invisible barrier, so both sides could see each other.

"Let us out of here" Coulson yelled.

"Please calm down, Mr. Coulson. We're here to talk about what's going to happen to you all next" Cairo announced.

"If you know what's good for you, what's next will be letting us out" Bobbi spat.

"You will all be tried for your crimes since the fall of S.H.I.E.L.D. Arson, kidnapping, torture, murder…you will be put in jail for what you have done, most of you for life…unless we work together…" Cairo trailed off.

"What do you mean?" Mack frowned, as Fitz came down the stairs into the Vault.

"There is a threat much bigger than any of us I have just heard about. I have got clearance from the people highest up in the government that they want you to help. This is the only way you don't spend your whole lives in jail" Cairo stated.

"What's the catch?" Hunter inquired.

"Everyone in this room has to work together" Cairo announced, as numerous bitter laughs erupted.

"I'd rather die than work with these scumbags" Coulson spat out.

"You very likely will, Mr. Coulson. This is a voluntary mission. Time will be taken off everyone's sentence who agrees to join the team" Cairo went on.

"Sir, I'd be willing to join this team" Mack said, being the first to stand up.

"Mack?! How could you?" Bobbi cried.

"I can't live like this anymore, Bobbi. I joined S.H.I.E.L.D to help people, and we haven't done that for a very long time" Mack explained.

"All I want is this team back together, so I'm in" Fitz exclaimed.

"All I want is to stop these shadow creatures, I don't care how we have to do it…so I'll join" Kayla sighed.

"I will too" Ward added.

"Where he goes, I go. So, I'm in" Kara stated.

"I…I want to change…so, yeah, I'll do it" Daisy nodded.

"If Daisy thinks its right, I'll go with her" Lincoln shrugged.

"…If Fitz is there…I'll join" Simmons relented.

"It would be a cold day in hell before I see that man as my team mate" Coulson spat at Ward.

"Its never going to happen" Bobbi announced.

"Same here" Hunter shook his head.

"On your own heads be it. You'll be taken to a secure facility where you'll be tried and punished. Now I know this won't be easy for anyone, and there is a clear divide in this group. So I want two team leaders. Mack and Ward" Cairo informed them.

"Um, Sir…I don't know if that's the best idea" Ward stuttered, seeing the hatred towards him from most of the team.

"Nonsense, you've proven what an effective team leader you can be, and I see the same potential in Mack…try not to screw things up" Cairo told them, before walking away.

Later that evening, everyone, minus Coulson, Bobbi and Hunter, were in the lounge, a tense silence hanging in the air.

"Look, I know none of us trust each other, hell I'm pretty sure some of us hate each other, but we need to work together because if we don't stop this threat, no one else will" Kayla announced.

"What is this threat exactly?" Mack inquired.

"After Puerto Rico, those powers I had…where I could kill someone just by touching someone, that's the threat. The man who shot me after I escaped somehow made my powers manifest into living creatures. I don't know what their plan is, but it's bad. They've been trying to infiltrate this base" Kayla explained.

"Is there any way to stop them?" Lincoln queried.

"Two that we know off. Fire seems to make them have to leave the bodies they're possessing, but of course that doesn't kill the creatures…I have been able to absorb them back into me" Kayla admitted.

"That sounds dangerous" Daisy frowned.

"…There's something else you guys should probably know before we get this thing started…I…I'm dying" Kayla confessed.

"What?!" Daisy cried.

"The shadows I've absorbed, they're killing me. I don't have long left now, a few weeks maybe before I'm brain dead. And who knows what happens to the creatures I've absorbed once I die" Kayla sighed.

"Sounds like we're on a pretty tight time limit" Mack stated.

"Why didn't you tell me?" Daisy inquired.

"I wasn't sure if you would have cared" Kayla shrugged.

"Of course I would have!" Daisy retorted.

"You left me, Skye…or is it Daisy, now?" Kayla snapped.

"Okay, why don't we just bring it down a notch. It's been a very strange day for everyone. Maybe we should just sleep it off?" Ward suggested.

"I agree" Mack mumbled.
