Author's Notes: So somehow this has became the last chapter! I'm really sorry I've sprung you on this suddenly but I've lost my interest in this story as I haven't watched AOS in over a year. Also I apologize that the ending is rushed. Who knows, maybe for some reason I'll come back to this story, but for now this is the end. Thank you so much for all the support over the past years, you've all been great!
Skye stayed up most of the night, reading through her late mother's books on Terrigenesis, trying to find out anything she could about what was happening to Kayla. She felt someone enter the room and turned around with a roll of her eyes when she saw who it was.
"What do you want?" She inquired, spotting Ward in the corner.
"Have you found anything?" Ward asked, uncrossing his arms.
"Even if I had, I wouldn't tell you" She retorted.
"And you think that would help Kayla? Look I know you don't like this…I'm not a big fan either, but if we're going to save her we need to work together. So how about you hand me a book?" Ward suggested, as Skye reluctantly did so.
It was almost dawn and Skye was about to fall asleep, when Ward suddenly slammed his book on the table.
"Jesus, what the hell, Ward?" She cried, rubbing her eyes.
"I think I found something. Maybe a way to reverse it" Ward told her, as she rushed towards him.
"Oh my God…this talks about reversing the effects of the Terrigenesis" Skye gasped.
"Would that get rid of all of her powers?" Ward frowned.
"Not if we shut this crystal thing down in time" Skye said, pointing to the picture of what they needed to find.
"Does it say where it is?" Ward inquired.
"England…not far from where Kayla was born" Skye realized.
They were up in the air within the hour, the whole team on board. Kayla was tucked up in Ward's side, groaning about having to be up at 6 am.
"How are you feeling?" Fitz questioned her.
"Not great…I feel pretty dizzy" She sighed.
"Don't worry, this will all be over soon" Ward promised her, kissing her forehead softly.
"I hope so" Kayla mumbled, falling back to sleep.
They soon arrived at the ruins of the castle where they had been directed to go, and cautiously filed out of the plan. They had been informed a few hours before that Coulson and Co. had been taken to prison where they would be staying for many years. They all knew that if the plan went well, then they might all be let off prison time, so they were desperate for things to work.
"Well this looks sufficiently creepy" Kayla stated.
"Eyes sharp" Ward called out to everyone, taking out his gun.
They walked for what felt like miles until they got to the center of the castle, finding an alter in the middle. The crystal they needed was right on top, as they crept closer.
"So how do we do this?" Kayla inquired.
"Well any Inhumans need to evacuate the area who don't want their powers taken…hell, everyone should probably go just in case…after what happened to Tripp" Skye explained.
"I'm not leaving" Ward insisted.
"All you have to do is open up the crystal, and let it do the rest" Skye told her.
"Simple" She mumbled, biting her lip.
"There's no…complications right?" Ward asked.
"Well Kayla is dying…" Fitz trailed off.
"He's trying to say that just doing this might not revert my brain damage. Basically I might die anyway" Kayla exclaimed.
"But-" Ward started, but Kayla cut him off.
"I just want these things gone, Ward. I don't care how" Kayla stated, as everyone else began filing out.
"Still not going. I'm with you until the end" Ward exclaimed, grabbing her hand.
"You could die" Kayla sighed.
"So could you" He shrugged.
"I…I love you. I don't know if I'll get another chance to say it-" Kayla blurted out, but was cut off by Ward's lips pressing against hers.
"I love you too. Always have and always will" He told her, pulling away.
"Let's have a proper goodbye kiss then" She grinned, pulling him to her by the collar of his jacket.
They kissed each other passionately, their hands roaming over each other's body for what they knew could be the last time. Kayla gave Ward once last peck on the lips before turning towards the crystal. With one hand intertwined with Ward's, she touched the crystal, pulling one end open. Suddenly the whole room sprang to life as a mist surrounded them. It circled around them both, before focusing on Kayla. She felt herself begin to gag as the shadow creatures were pulled out of her. She watched as they were dragged towards the crystal, as she gripped Ward's hand harder. A moment later, everything stopped as the shadows were engulfed in the crystal. There was a loud bang as the crystal seemed to explode in on itself as Kayla fell to the ground.
"Kayla?" Ward panicked, as he tried to feel for a pulse.
When he felt nothing, he started to shake her, calling out her name.
"Please Kayla, come on! I need you! Come back to me!" He cried.
When it was five minutes later and he still felt nothing, he let out a loud cry, as he hugged her body to his. He was alone in the world. He let the tears freely fall down his face, as he kissed her on the forehead one last time. He stood up, and went to tell the group the terrible news. He knew he had to live on, it was what Kayla would have wanted but he wasn't sure how. He was in the doorway about to leave when he heard a sudden gasp.
"Hey, don't leave without me" He heard Kayla exclaim, and turned around with a large smile.
For once in his life, things had turned out well. He got the girl and his happy ending.
The End!
