Third Decision
The next morning was awfully quiet. It felt quieter and emptier than the other days. How come? She thought to herself and slowly opened her eyes. It was dark. The curtains surprisingly swallowed all the light that tried to come through the window. She sat up and opened the curtains only to be blended by the bright rays of the sun that shone friendly over the town. "Well then." She said to herself and took a look through her pure white room. There was no one else except her, not that she expected anyone to be there but she felt somewhat watched in her sleep. For a second she wondered why but got up without giving it any more thoughts because it might as well be just her imagination and went straight to the bathroom. It's finally time to regain her freedom and leave that lonely and empty place. "Time to get outta here." When she was finished with brushing her teeth and hair and got some clothes someone knocked on her door. "Yes?" She answered with a bit of surprise in her voice. Who could that be? The others said they had no time to pick her up and the kids were also having school. Could it be Bianci? Or her parents who ought to be overseas? No, no, no, it couldn't be them. The door slowly opened and a certain silver haired man entered her room. Déjà vu. She thought to herself and giggled a bit.
"Mornin'." The yawning storm guardian greeted her with his usual grumpy attitude scratching the back of his head while walking in.
"Morning Gokudera." She answered and happily smiled at him. Whether it was grumpy-dera or weird-dera. She felt kind of happy when she saw him. Happy that there was someone being with her. At least she thought that was the reason. "What're you doing here?" She asked while packing her stuff into her luggage bag and hummed a little cheerful melody. "I thought everyone was busy. That's what they told me yesterday."
"I've got some time and the others told me that you were released today so Juudaime ordered me to get you." He answered and added a sigh after he finished. Then he sat down the chair next to her bed observing her packing her stuff.
"I see. Thanks a lot." Her smile grew wider and she laughed a little at that tsunderish answer of him. No matter how you looked at it in reality he meant the opposite right? Well, she wished that he meant the opposite. But who knows what Gokudera Hayato really thought. "After I've finished the luggage the nurse will check on me the last time and we can finally go."
"Is that so? Then I could have come a little later as well." He let his upper body down of the bed as he yawned again and acted a bit annoyed by the fact that he had to stay longer than he expected. "You know you're taking quite a lot of my time these days so be thankful."
She giggled after hearing him say that. Where did he gain that confidence from? She asked herself. "I am." That's the Gokudera she knew so well. The other was so weird. But this way feels more comfortable. She didn't understand yet why she felt so restless when he was treating her kindly and looking at her with serious eyes but she knew it felt too uncomfortable and foreign that she thought having him being grumpy all the time was way more familiar. Even if she didn't mind either part of him. "I'm happy that you came. To be honest I actually felt kinda lonely here. So thank you."
"I realized." He mumbled with such a low voice that she was unable to hear it and still observed her without letting her get out of his sight. "That's why I am here." His cheeks were turning light rose after he realized what he unconsciously said.
"Anyways." She closed her bag and sat down on the edge of her bed. "I hope you didn't gain that so called free time by skipping university." She started to stare at him as if she wanted to peek into his brain to get the truth outta him. But of course she couldn't decipher a single thing from his expression. "I wouldn't want you to skip the lessons for me. It's important."
"Well you are important too." He mumbled again without her hearing and got his cheeks turning redder. "You see." He said out loud. He thought to himself he should really spot blurting things out that she wasn't supposed to hear. It would just be unnecessary and weird. "I'd lie if I said I didn't skip so I better say nothing." He just said and turned her face away from her gaze.
"But you know…" She giggled again. A fluffy feeling grew inside her stomach and she started to feel somewhat happy seeing him as cute as he was that moment. "You actually admitted that you are skipping with what you said?"
"No, because you didn't hear me saying that." He said jokingly. He watched her with a light smile from his position and pinched her cheek with his fingers then settling his hand on the bed again.
"I see." She laughed a bit. Seeing him stare at her like that made her feel a little nervous. So she averted her eyes and took a look through the room. "Soon I can say 'good bye' and 'I'm never coming back again here' to this hospital."
"You will probably come here someday sooner or later again." He grinned and leaned his back to the wall with his hands behind his head.
"Yeah you're right." Haru thought a little and admitted. There's no good bye forever in life, right? But the next time she'll come here shall be the time when she is pregnant. She wouldn't want to be here because of some injury or wouldn't want to visit a friend with an injury. She hoped they would always be healthy and cheerful. Even though that's only wishful thinking. She hoped it will come true.
"I'm glad that you can leave." Gokudera suddenly said in a serious tone but added something unserious again. "That way I don't have to take Lambo and I-pin here." His arm wandered from behind his head to his chest were he crossed them and grinned lightly.
"Thanks for your hard work." She patted his head and smiled at him. Then she closed her bag and sat down on the bed. "Now only gotta wait for the nurse." She mumbled impatiently and swung with her legs like a little kid.
"Will the one from last time come?" The storm guardian hesitantly asked with quite a displeased facial expression.
"Probably... why?" Haru kinda could predict why but she wanted to see his answer.
"She was kinda disgusting me." He stated honestly and stood up. "I'm gonna get myself a coffee. I'll come back later."
"To avoid her?" She giggled. As she thought he didn't want to meet that woman again. She wasn't old maybe even only a few years older than us. But well it's better this way.
"Oh shut it." He mumbled and left.
"Stupid-dera. You're actually easy to read huh." She said to herself and stared at the blue sky outside. She couldn't help but to feel a little sad because she was left alone again while the smile on her face faded. "Geez, Haru!" She almost screamed out and lightly clapped her hands on her cheeks. "You are not a baby anymore." She wondered and let herself fall onto the bed. Her head drifted into deep thoughts as she closed her eyes. Since when had she become to get lonely so easily? Wasn't she supposed to be used to being alone? Didn't she get stronger each time her parents were away for a long trip? She told herself dozens of times that it's alright and she got used to it. That being alone isn't that big of a thing. But since she met Tsuna and the others her days were filled with fun and happiness. She got spoiled by it and she softened to it so that she always wanted to be with them and began to avoid the loneliness again. She thought she got weak. Has she actually gotten weak? She suddenly shook her head. "Yosh!" And sat up again and stared straight forward. "It's not the time to be thinking of weird stuff." She told herself and got herself fired up.
At that moment the nurse was coming in without knocking and greeted Haru by waving her hand. "Hello dear. I just saw your boyfriend heading to the cafeteria. I called out to him but it seemed that he didn't see me. Too bad I wanted to see his handsome face one last time though." She sighed and walked over to Haru. "This may be rude to ask but does he kiss well?" She whispered to her.
Haru was quite shocked by that question and stayed silent for a while but she leaned away from the nurse a bit and said with a light smile. "It's a secret." While giggling a bit fakedly.
"I see." She geezed and sat down beside Haru. "You've got yourself a great boyfriend. Isn't it great how he comes almost every night to look over you?" She grinned and bumped her arm a little with her elbow.
"He did what?" Haru asked surprised with her mouth wide open. Gokudera did what?! No way. Impossible. Could she have seen a ghost or hallucinating? There's no way he would come each night to look over her, right? Even if he did then why would he do that? Only because he felt responsible? Only because he thought it was his fault? No way. Even if she felt really happy to hear that he did that she wouldn't want to tie him down. She would never want to inconvenience him only for that. No. "Are you saying the truth?"
"He came almost every night and stayed with you." The nurse explained eagerly and nodded. She sure was impressed by him. "I guess you didn't now because he always came late when you were already sleeping and left before you woke up." She sighed. "You are really lucky Miura-san. He seems to love you a lot."
"What…" No… Stop Haru. She shook her head. She couldn't let herself be filled with false hopes. He wouldn't love her. She was just stupid woman. He didn't love her he only cared for her because he felt bad about that. So Haru's heart, please stop beating so fast. It could easily break again with those false hopes. Like the time when she was in love with Tsuna. This time she wanted to be sure. So stop beating so fast, heart. Haru took a few deep breaths and calmed somewhat down. "Do the visiting times even allow that?" She asked because no matter how much she thought about it, it seemed so unreal.
"You see. Actually not but we made an exception cause he is just to cool and practically begged us to stay by your side especially at the time you were still unconscious." She answered and took a look through the room to check on it.
"I... see..." She couldn't help but blush a little. After all they're been through Gokudera was really a very caring and serious person. She didn't know that for so long. She thought he was mean and a jerk. She grew fond of him as a friend but he was still mean and always so Gokudera-ish. She finally realized how good of a person Gokudera can be. That's why she was sure that she couldn't just let him stay by her side.
"Oh so cute! You're blushing. Well, everything is fine. That's why you can leave now. Isn't that great?" She nurse disturbed her thoughts again clapping her hands.
"Yeah it is." Haru smiled and took her stuff. "Thank you for everything. Good bye."
"I'm being paid for this so you're welcome." She giggled and escorted her out. "I wouldn't mind you two coming here again. But I shouldn't say that because this is a hospital." The nurse brought Haru to the entrance and waved her when she went into the hospital again. "Bye bye."
Haru only bowed because the nurse went away as quick as she brought her here. She was standing outside wondering if she should go look for Gokudera or just go home without him. Well it's better to wait for him until he returned with his coffee. He'd be angry if she left without him but she wanted to leave as soon as possible. But how would he know where she is. They haven't appointed where to meet. Well, whatever. He will find her somehow.
After a few minutes of waiting she heard his rough voice calling out her name. "Oy Haru." She turned around and saw him standing behind her with a coffee and a paperback. "You should've called me when you were released. I met that hag and had her tell me where you are." He said in quite an angry tone.
"Oh right!" Haru squealed surprised. "We have things like cellphones." Why didn't she think of it sooner? She asked herself. No wonder he sometimes calls her stupid.
"Geez! That's why you're a stupid woman." He put the paper bag that he held on her head and took her luggage. "Let's go." He walked first to the direction of Haru's home having her follow him.
"What is this?" Haru asked him holding the paper bag and tried to catch up with him.
"Just take a look in it and you will know, stupid woman!" He answered without looking back to her until she finally lined up with him. "It's some cheap cake…" He mumbled and took a few sips from his coffee.
"Thank you!" She opened the bag and began to eat that plain cake he bought for her. Even if it wasn't as delicious as the cakes in her favorite café she somehow really enjoyed it. Even if he held that façade he is a really cute person deep down. "Itsh yuwwy!" Haru giggled with her mouth full.
"Chew that stuff down before you talk. It's disgusting." Gokudera laughed but he suddenly stopped in the middle of the road. "By the way where is your house?"
