A/N:
@michiko-chan27: Your prompt gave me an idea. I mean I really got your point but I don't think I can insert Reborn that early (I feel like I want to erase him entirely off the picture). However, what if Ira woke up earlier than the Sins should have, met Tsuna when the kid was still a toodler, and never left the brunet's side until Tsuna became as he is? Like instead of having his family and demon friends as his only supporters, he will also have Ira? Mwahahaha! And then, as Ira spent his time being with Tsuna, he gets slowly purified cause he gets accepted by the Sawada too even though they know he's a Sin? Just give me your thoughts about this one. I got it from your prompt. Like they got mashed up on your idea and boom! And oh. Hahaha! Who knew Kyouya can make you cry? HAHAHA! What's your favorite part in the last chapter? Was it really on Kyouya's?
Thank you for the reviews. This is the last update of the week. Hope you like it though. Next week's updates will surely be interesting. Hahaha!
Anyway, onwards!
Chapter Sixty
Tsuna shot up from the bed when his intuition rang with alarm. He winced in pain just as Kawahira materialized in front of him. He immediately removed the blanket off himself and went for his jacket. He's so glad that he went for a sleep after his class. He would've been tired if he's about to face off a lot of enemies.
"They're on the move." Kawahira informed gravely, brows furrowed with worry and agitation. "I cannot believe they've decided to attack now of all times."
"What time is it anyway?" Tsuna asked as he pulled on his jacket.
"Forty minutes to midnight."
"What?!" Tsuna exclaimed while pulling his shoes on. "Where's Reborn? Why didn't he come?"
"Probably because he's cleaning his guns?" The immortal suggested while handing him his set of knives and some papers with 'bind' and 'seal' on them.
The brunet took the tools with a thoughtful look before nodding. "Maybe. I'll check later. So what do you know about them?"
"Belial told them to attack 'tomorrow'. They took it literally as by the stroke of midnight. According to my information, Lust and Sloth are planning to come here."
The young man cursed under his breath. "That will split the World Society's force."
"Yes. But the other part will not need to go far since Envy, Greed and Gluttony plan to attack the World Society's headquarters."
"What about Pride? Ira?"
"Pride wants to obliterate Namimori completely."
"Fuck." Tsuna can't help cussing.
"Don't worry. I don't think Reborn will let him."
"And Ira?"
"Something happened to him that removed him from the group. The last I heard was he's going somewhere."
The brunet's brows furrowed. "Belial did something to him. Then what will their leader do? Attack me again?"
"Belial had given up on you, child." Kawahira said with a slow smug smile forming on his lips. "The supreme demons have praised your desire to stay alive. It did wonders to his pride as a supreme demon. They even expressed their wants to meet you."
Tsuna raised a brow. "Where the heck did you get that?"
"From my spies, of course. Immortals are known to be very essential to demons since we have the same power level. Just different creatures." The immortal shrugged. "So what do you want me to do?"
"Inform Giglio Nero and Gesso. They'll want to help. Let them pick which group they want to help. I'll go to the World Society to inform them. I hope they're awake."
"Let's hope so. I'm gonna meet you, Colonnello and Skull in the Arcobaleno house?"
The Sky nodded. "Yes."
Kawahira gave a nod before disappearing. Tsuna went out of the room and ran deeper to the boys' dormitory. He searched for Kyouya's room. When he arrived at the right corridor and located the right door, he hurriedly knocked with a purpose.
When the door opened, he stared at half awake Kyouya. He had to shake himself out of his stupor. His little brother is so cute that he can just cuddle him and pet him for hours while the other sleeps on him. Who wouldn't when you see Kyouya with his hair in disarray and tightly closed black yukata while rubbing his palm on a closed eye. He looked so sleepy. Tsuna feels bad for waking him up.
"Kyouya?" He softly coaxed for the other to respond. "Do you want water to wake up?"
"No. What is it, nii-san?" The skylark question before giving out a yawn.
Tsuna can't help himself from smiling before he asked his next question. Kyouya calls him 'nii-san' when he thinks calling the brunet's name is too troublesome and too mouthful. "What time did you sleep?"
"Just when you did. Tetsuya did the patrol with the rotation. Why?"
"Are you still sleepy?"
Kyouya inspected himself before shaking his head. "No. I'm okay. What is it? You're dressed, it means something is wrong."
"Lust and Sloth are going to attack the academy any time on this day. Kawahira-oji warned me that some of them literally took Belial's words of tomorrow as soonest."
The prefect hummed as Mukuro appeared beside Tsuna with his usual smirk. "Alright. I'll make preparations."
"Some of the World Society will be here and either of Giglio Nero or Gesso will help. You cannot take on Lust or Sloth alone. You hear me, Kyouya? Whether you deem yourself powerful, you cannot attack alone. You have to rely on anyone near you. It is Mammon you will help, got it?"
"Yes."
"Tell Nagi, Mukuro." Tsuna ordered, glaring at both of them. "I don't want any of you three or the World Society, even Mammon, to arrive to me dead." 'Cause I will never forgive myself if that happens.'
"Yes, Tsunayoshi." The mist swore.
"I'm going. I'll keep in touch using Mammon. Be careful."
The two nodded just as Bermuda's portal opened beside him. He entered the portal and came in front of the World Society headquarters with Bermuda there. It's like a castle with big doors that has lion head knockers each and very well lit even in midnight. It was his first time in the place, but he can't just admire the view when he only has minutes to warn everyone of their incoming battle.
With a nod from his Night, he knocked with the right lion head. It took seconds before someone opened the door. The moment the guard saw him, they were immediately ushered inside while another guard had his hand pressed on his ear device, talking to someone on the other side. Tsuna shrugged off the quick acknowledgement, he was probably introduced without him knowing for emergency purposes. They were by the lobby when Ganauche came running down the stairs, looking worried and almost dreary.
"Tsuna! Bermuda!" Ganauche called out. "Are they moving?"
Tsuna nodded. "But relax, Ganauche. You're putting more wrinkles on your face. It makes you uglier."
"Damn you, kid." The guardian pouted, although got a little eased with the joke.
"Good evening, Tsunayoshi." They looked up to Timoteo going down the stairs with his guardians in tow. "I assume it's... The day?"
"Yes." Tsuna took a deep breathe as he opened his links with the Arcobaleno so he could only say it once. "Belial had told the Sins to attack tomorrow. They took it literally as by the stroke of midnight. We do not know what time will they attack, but Kawahira-oji had intels that Pride will come back to Namimori, probably to finish off what he started."
"Oh God. Your parents." Ganauche reminded, making all guardians pale.
"As Kawahira-oji has said, Reborn will not let Pride touch a single grain of soil of Namimori. I even doubt they'll fight there." The brunet assured. "Envy, Greed and Gluttony will attack this headquarters. While Lust and Sloth will go for the academy. It means you have to split your force."
"We can go." A new voice volunteered.
The young man craned his neck to left and smiled. "Good evening, Xanxus."
Xanxus nodded as he strode towards him with six people behind him. "Good evening, Tsunayoshi."
"I do not care how you're going to split your forces." He admitted when the father and son stared at each other to disagree with their decisions. "I just want a good result with intact people. Those who will come in the battlefield must come out alive from the battlefield."
"Voi! Not all warriors come back from a battle alive." The man with long white hair disagreed, clearly not impressed with his words. "You cannot expect for something impossible at a battle like this."
"That's why I'm hoping." Tsuna replied, smile vanishing from his face. He went serious with underlying tone of pain and helplessness. "Casualties will be inevitable. I could only hope it will be minimal as much as possible. Always remember that you cannot fight a Sin alone. Survival is a must in this war. The more lives safe and sound, the more victorious we will be. I don't even think those three will come directly here. They'll probably visit some places to kill time. They want to take you offguard, weak and surprised. But since we are more advanced by information, we will survive. I believe we will live."
Silence.
"I agree with him." Tsuna stared at the teen with a frog head wear. The teen looked at him with a blank expression but the way those green eyes stared at him with light made him smile a little. "When despair comes, we must cling to hope. We shouldn't decide just yet that many will die. Maybe it will happen. But as long as we win this war, mercy will probably come upon us."
"It is decided then." Coyote finalized. "We will assign the group that will go with the Varia for the academy."
"I will offer assistance." Bermuda piped in. "My portal will be of your use as long as my battle hadn't started yet."
"Kawahira-oji had informed Giglio Nero and Gesso. Please do accept their help. We cannot win this alone."
"Okay." Timoteo nodded with a grateful smile. "We will meet you again, Tsunayoshi?"
"You will." Tsuna responded.
"Good." And the sky guardian walked away while giving orders to his fellow pillars.
"I should be going." Tsuna informed Xanxus who was staring at him. "Tell Dino to keep safe."
"I will. Don't die out there." The man dismissed.
The brunet smiled. "No promises." Then he looked at the Varia officers. "Nice to meet all of you."
"We should go, Tsunayoshi." Bermuda informed.
Tsuna waved at them before he entered the portal to appear by the threshold of the Arcobaleno house. His summons were already assembled and lounging in the living room. He took a deep breath before he sighing loud enough to calm his nerve then graced his friends a big smile.
"Have you have enough rest?" He asked as he entered the house. Most of them nodded. "Who wants to eat snacks before we set out?"
A pause.
"I can use some coffee." Reborn chimed as he pushed himself away from the wall he was leaning on. "We have some beacon in the fridge."
"It's my turn to cook right?" Mammon verified as he float down and padded on the floor to get to the kitchen. "I'll go cook."
"I'll set the table." Colonnello volunteered as he stood up. "Skull? Are you going to help?"
"Sure." The Cloud responded with excitement.
Tsuna grinned as they walked towards the dining room and kitchen.
"I'll help you with the food preparation Viper." Fon informed the Mist.
"I'll just sit around then." Verde shrugged, seconded by Lal who sat on their respective places. They were joined by Bermuda.
Tsuna watched everything from the espresso machine. How Viper and Fon communicate to make the food, the way Skull and Colonnello debated what kind of plate pattern should they put on the table, how Lal, Verde and Bermuda talk about their weapons, and Reborn... The hitman is watching him while leaning on the counter, arms on the cold surface.
He couldn't help himself from feeling bad. They should be enjoying something else right now and not worrying what will happen the minute midnight rolls in. Just why do they have to be the one to save the world?
Once upon a time, he dreamed of changing the world. Hoping he had the power to make everyone accept that equality is everything. That as humans feel offended with how demons call them low lives, demons too feel offended when humans regarded them slaves. That if humans accept demons as their equal and they stop discriminating their own kind for being different, and vice versa, the peace they wanted will be attained. No more power hunger, no more superiority complex, no more killing, no more hatred, no more hurt. A wishful thinking.
It all started with those times he listened to the demons of Namimori tell him stories of how cruel humans were, those times he watched helplessly as his own kinds torment innocent demons left and right just for being there, and those times he just had to stay beside the demons to give them solace and comfort they needed when they feel bad for themselves. With all honesty, he gave up on his race since he was a child. He only made exception to those who deserve them. Humans have done too much to this world that it's not only demons who are destroying it because they're helping to do it too.
Stupidity will always come with a prize.
Settling themselves by the table when the food got served, Tsuna ate with gusto. They talked. They bantered. They jabbed others for the fun of it. After that they cleaned up. By the time they were outside the house, his intuition warned him. Just in time.
"Maybe we'll see each other before everything ends." He mused as he looked at them one by one. "But right now, I just want to say thank you for having a contract with me. Thank you for being part of my life and protecting it in your own ways. And thank you for just being you whenever you're with me. Maybe today, we'll be able to fulfill our promises to each other."
Fon chuckled behind his sleeve. "You're so pessimistic and optimistic at the same time, Tsunayoshi."
"It can't be helped." He shrugged as he grinned at them. "As I said, I will carry my promises to the end of my lifetime. So by the time I want to change the world, I want to at least fulfill them. I hate breaking promises."
"We know." Lal whispered in the air, eyes looking elsewhere as she pulled a handgun from her infinite invisible arsenal and handed it to him. "For self defense. We know you want to fight with us but we can't do that. We both know this is the best strategy we came up. You're their main target, the extermination of human population is just an excuse to keep their energy stronger and steady. Those maggots will probably send their underlings to search for you if they figure out their"
"Thanks, Lal." Then he eyed Reborn with a wiggle of his brows. "Any babies for me to look after, love?"
"You already have my heart. What more can I give to you?" The hitman smirked, adoration clear in his eyes.
Tsuna's heart skipped some beats as he blushed in embarrassment. That sure backfired.
"Argh. Get a room!" Colonnello groaned that was consoled by Bermuda who was laughing quietly.
"You're just jealous of them." Skull teased before pointedly eyed Reborn. "That was cheesy. You could've done much better."
The others laughed.
"But it worked." Reborn offhandedly retorted, winking at Tsuna's way, who also grinned. "He didn't even suspected such answer."
"You're such a dork." Verde remarked. It caused Tsuna to laugh hard. The brunet remembered how Reborn called him a dork for laughing at his pirate way of saying 'aye'. Look who's being called a dork now.
"Should I say touché for your sake, Verde?" Viper queried, throwing Skull, Colonnello and Bermuda into a fit of laughter. Even Fon and Lal snickered lightly while Verde huffed.
"Okay." Tsuna called out as their jokes died down. He looked at them again before smiling softly. "Be careful and be home safely, yeah?"
"We will."
The first one to go was Viper since he was going for the academy. Verde, Bermuda, Lal and Fon entered the portal for the World Society. And before Reborn stepped out for Namimori, he gave Tsuna a final hug, an exchange of 'I love you' and a kiss on his forehead. Skull and Colonnello accompanied him by the porch of the house. They agreed among themselves that it was the right place to wait for a news.
Tsuna was checking his overflowing aura when he felt someone or some people coming. The auras he's feeling aren't hostile but one is recognizable enough to be deduced as Kawahira while the other is weak but familiar. His Cloud and Rain tensed up when he stood up to welcome the two, only to stare when the immortal arrived with a secured grip on Ira's forearm.
The Sin looked so weak and burned out. His shirt is singed on some parts but relatively alright. What troubled him though were how pale Ira was, the way pain and weary cross his expression and how his aura slowly dissipate into thin wisp. Thanks God the ring he gave is still there. It means Ira hadn't been upset or anything. What the heck happened though? More importantly, he needs to help him.
"Ira!" He yelled as he jumped over the rest of the stairs and ran to Wrath. "Ira?! Are you alright?"
"N-No." The Sin gasped, finally keeling in lack of strength. "Belial... Cut... Connection."
Tsuna looked up to Kawahira in panic and confusion as he hugged the Sin. "Do you know how to attach that connection he's talking about?"
"I know how, but I need yours and Skull's help to reconnect them." The immortal replied, unable to keep his worry for the Sin from showing.
"We'll help." Skull assured as he kneeled beside Tsuna while Colonnello rubbed Ira's back. "We need explanation later though."
"I'll keep him alive." Colonnello said and used his aura to slow down the Sin's aura consumption. Tsuna breathed in relief when he felt Ira's rapidly thinning aura slowed down.
"Okay. You mediate between us, Tsunayoshi. While I put a tangible connection as a paste, you should solidify it to attach them together, Skull. But be warned, Tsunayoshi. It will take a lot of your aura to reconnect such lines. You're the one who is mainly connecting them, we're only helping you do so." Kawahira instructed.
Tsuna removed the orange pacifier from his neck as he gripped one of Wrath's hands while Colonnello let the Sin rest on to him. "Not if I use this."
The immortal chuckled, admiring the lengths the young man will go to save a dangerous demon.
Ira watched in blur when Tsuna gave him a reassuring smile before those brown eyes closed up with a frown of concentration. His human started to glow orange softly just as Skull and Kawahira did with purple and indigo colors, respectively. Colonnello gave him a pat, telling him that everything will be alright and he'll live. Oh how much he wanted to believe that.
(He realized that whenever Tsuna is involved, he has to believe every impossible things becoming possible.)
The moment Belial told him that he cut the connection between him and Hell, the only thought that crossed his mind was he needs to see Tsuna one more time before he goes. He doesn't know why, but he just has to. So he destroyed the castle in anger and frustration then traveled through dimensions with his remaining power. He clung to the ring given by the brunet for hope and enough time to at least memorize his human's features and warmth before he dies. What he didn't expect was the help he'll get by the time he popped on Aqion, just when Kawahira was passing. He doesn't know if he wants to be grateful or not, that the immortal recognized him and was on his way to his human.
Slowly, he felt something 'snapping' back to their places. His vision cleared a little, breathing a little easier and strength slowly returning. He blinked when he noticed how Tsuna's orange glow steadily growing stronger while the two kept theirs in soft glows. His strength and power were steadily growing too. And when his energy got back to the fullest it was before anything was cut off, Tsuna's glow slowly went down with the other two.
When Tsuna's eyes opened, amber orange orbs stared at him with determination and simmering anger. His core pulsed at the sudden feel of anger. Tsuna is piling him more of the source of his power.
"Are you alright?" The brunet asked.
He nodded dumbly. "Y-Yes."
"Good." Then slowly, those orange eyes went to calm brown. "Good. I don't want you dead when I'm practically skipping you out of this fiasco."
"S-Skipping?" He asked before looking back to Colonnello who hummed thoughtfully.
"We're fighting a small war-" Kawahira snorted that made Tsuna and Skull grin while Colonnello continued. "-that involves something with the Sins."
"An intel told me that Belial had left the Sins and retreated to his castle." Kawahira informed while gazing at Tsuna who's expression went blank. "He has left them for you to take."
"It's settled then." His human nodded with a decision.
"What happened anyway?" Skull piped in, staring at his resting form. "What happened to that connections we put together?"
"Those connections we reattached were Wrath's that were severed by Belial." The immortal explained. A tingle of power surged on Ira from Tsuna who has this sour expression. "It was made by the supreme demons for the Sins to take energy from any creature in Mundane and Fiant. Even in Hell. And it will take another supreme one to cut them and make them again. But if an outside being wants to make them or even reconnect a severed line, it will take up a lot of his aura to do so."
"But Tsuna has helpers." Colonnello pointed out as he pushed Ira into a sitting position.
"Supreme demons acquire all auras, Colonnello." Kawahira clarified as he floats to Tsuna and ruffled the latter's hair. "Tsuna only has sky aura. And it will take so much of sky aura to control and harmonize other auras. In a sense, he has to be powerful enough to utilize all of you to work together. Another reason why he has to do that job."
Ira perked up. "Is that the reason why you have too much aura in you?"
"Other than it's fluctuating and wants to flood everyone with sky aura? Yup." Then the brunet smiled. "But having the Arcobaleno as my summons are blessings. They use my aura unconsciously so they keep it at the border line. And since seven of them will be fighting the Sins, it will be nice to at least put my aura in an average level. I recover fast enough anyway, so it's good."
"Like when Belial almost killed you but you covered after fifteen days. Not even marking a full month from aura depletion." Skull shook his head in exasperation.
"Belial did what?!" Ira shouted, that was only answered by a wince. His aura coiled in anger at the mere imagination of Belial trying to kill Tsuna. "Oh once I get my hands on that fucking demon. I'll rip him to shreds for touching you."
"Nah. It's okay." Tsuna dismissed with a vindictive smile stretched on his lips. "I burned him enough as a payment."
His eyes lit up in different ways when his mind went back to the blackened right side of Belial's body. "You were the one who did that? That was so cool. The supreme demons had been talking to me for being able to befriend a powerful sky. I didn't know it was you. I could've at least gloated how wonderful you were if you told me what you did."
"Told you so." Kawahira smiled smugly.
"I did it to escape." The brunet huffed before beaming at him. "But it's a relief that you're okay now. Do you want to eat? I can make you some meal."
"Sure." Ira agreed.
Tsuna was about to stand up when his intuition throbbed. He stayed on one knee as he listened to his summons' individual reports.
'Sins have appeared.'
