A groan escaped Zoro's lips as he began to regain consciousness. He couldn't understand the cause of his discomfort. Shocks periodically attacked his back and sides. It felt as though his internal organs were having a party inside of him. Dragging his body up to a sitting position, he kept his eyes squeezed shut and tried to ignore the pain. He swallowed a lump in his throat and shook his head.
Taking a deep breath, Zoro tried to will the pain to go away as he tried to crack his sides by stretching. He heard a few cracks and instantly felt a little better. With less pain, he wasted no time in getting his shoes on and exiting the room. As he made his way to the upper deck, he continued to feel the unsettling feeling in his stomach which made him stop a couple of times. On deck he saw Luffy and Usopp sitting over the railing fishing. Chopper wasn't in sight so he assumed he was in his room researching as usual.
Brooke and Franky were talking next to the mikan trees but waved to greet Zoro with smiles. The greeting didn't last long as their smiles instantly dropped as Zoro bent over a little to catch his breath. He got up not too long after and nodded his head at the two members, assuring them that he was fine.
Am I tired still? He thought to himself as he turned around. He was originally going to the crows nest but with the way he was feeling, he probably wouldn't even make it up the ladder.
Nami and Robin sipped their drinks at the table while Sanji added the final details to dinner. He shut off the stove and oven before grabbing plates. The girls immediately got up and helped, which Sanji appreciated. Kairi and Daichi ignored them as they played in their high chairs, making faces at each other.
When the table was presentable, Sanji stood straight up, smiling at his preparations. Though he had made most of the food before, the casserole was a new addition. Franky bragged about the one from the last island, and even though he won't admit it, Sanji wasn't going to be out done by novice chefs. He ushered the girls to their proper seats and fixed the twins in their usual spots before leaving the kitchen with the intention of waking Zoro up first.
The door to the gallery closed and the girls heard Sanji's food announcement. What followed though was a gasp and the galley door opening again. The girls looked up at a flustered Sanji.
"I think somethings wrong with Zoro."
Though his voice came out low, Robin heard him clearly and silently made her way to the deck. Nami didn't quite catch it but walked passed Sanji to join Robin. Both women stared frozen at Zoro who was on one knee on the deck below. As each member came to him, he waved them off. Their eyes met quickly before rushing towards Zoro. When they got close to the green haired man, they noticed everyone staring down at him from above with worry, all except for Chopper who still wasn't present.
Nami kneeled down with a hand on Zoro's back while Robin crouched in front of him. Both of them said nothing and just waited for him to say something.
"I'm fine." Zoro's voice didn't carry as far as it usually did. Its tone was too soft for the two girls not to grow more concerned.
"You're not" Nami said. "And that's okay. What can we do to help?"
Zoro didn't say anything. He felt dizzy and the shocks were starting to travel, making his legs feel weak.
"Zoro? " Robin said, trying to get him to focus
"I don't know. " Zoro put a hand on his head. "I didn't eat much. That could be something."
The girls shared a glance before turning to look at the other members. Robin signaled Sanji to bring a little food down just to make it easier for Zoro. He walked to Brook and spoke to him for a minute before both of them disappeared into the gallery. Not long after, Sanji came out alone with a small plate of food in his hands. He didn't want to give too much since he wasn't sure if this was actually the problem.
Slightly rushing down the stairs, Sanji made his way too Zoro. He crouched in front of him and saw that his face was looking a bit pale. Swallowing hard, he chose not to mention it to the swordsman. Sanji held the plate out to Zoro for a few minutes but put it down when the swordsman never took it. Grabbing a small fork full of food, Sanji tried to present it to Zoro. The girls watched as the food touched Zoro's lips and he slowly opened his mouth to accept it. He chewed slowly but stopped after a few moments, making the three members surrounding him worry more.
The food tasted great once in his mouth and Zoro tried to embrace it but a moment later it tasted worse. Zoro knew it wasn't Sanji's cooking that was the problem, nor was this caused by hunger. His body seemed like the problem at this point. He stopped chewing as his stomach started to turn and he tried to concentrate on keeping the bile he felt down. Taking a shaky breath, Zoro opened his eyes and came into contact with blue eyes and a downturned eyebrows. He couldn't help but feel a little bad after seeing it.
Gold and blue eyes stared back at each other. Sanji searched Zoro's face for anything that would help him figure out how to help. When he couldn't find anything, Sanji shared a look with the girls before calling out to the other members.
"Someone bring Chopper over." Sanji's blue eyes went back to stare into Zoro's. He didn't even acknowledge Luffy volunteering and racing below deck.
Zoro tried to shrug off the three members. "I said that I'm fine."
"But you're not." Robin said. She placed a hand to his head. " You even have a slight fever."
Sanji glanced at her before quickly replacing her hand with his. "He does?"
The chefs hand retracted at the feel of the warmth.
Silence surrounded the deck until Chopper could be heard coming up the steps from down below with Luffy. He said nothing as he reached Zoro's side and hushed him when he started to ensure Chopper that he was fine. With each tool that came out and each expression that graced his face, the hunger in everyone's stomachs began to subside.
Stepping back, Chopper held Zoro's face in his hands to get a better look at him. He frowned and let his hands drop.
"Franky. Can you bring Zoro to my office?" His voice was filled with worry.
"Of course, Chopper bro. I'll get him down there pronto." Franky rushed down the stairs and picked up the protesting swordsman. Before making his way to the doctor's office, Chopper whispered something in his ear and with a nod he was gone.
"So what's wrong?" Sanji asked once the green haired man was out of sight.
Chopper didn't say anything at first. He had been checking the perfume for months now and ran various tests on it. There were some things that he didn't have enough information on. There was no way to test any of his hypothesis' on any affects he came into contact with.
"Chopper?" Nami called out to him softly, trying to bring him back to reality.
The reindeer shook his head and turned towards the crew members. It was better to tell everyone at once so he waited a few moments before Franky appeared from below deck. At his reappearance, Chopper asked everyone to meet in the Gallery.
Nami, Robin and Sanji followed close behind Chopper. From behind, they could see his frown deepening as he thought more and more. They shared a glance and hoped that Zoro was not going through something serious.
Once everyone was seated, they stared at Chopper silently. Luffy didn't even look at the food with the thought of his second mates health swimming through his mind.
" I want to start this on a relatively good note." Chopper began. "Zoro will be fine as long as we all work together until this passes."
Alot of confused faces and cocked heads followed this announcement. "I've been studying the perfume and testing out some...ideas but my results were a little short due to different variables. While I knew that there could be side effects, my research failed to inform me of the kinds of affects and the time of it as each test subject is different. What you saw was Zoro going through some of those side effects."
Sanji pushed his plate aside and leaned closer to Chopper.
"What we saw a few moments ago was the effects of the perfume chemicals mixing with the hormones associated with Stress. Zoro showed extreme discomfort in the body, unstable temperature, dizziness and a sensitive stomach. Now, though I know this, are there any other things that you have noticed to be Un-Zoro like lately?"
The table was silent. Sanji took this moment to glance at Kai and Dai who were currently sat near Brooke. They were also quiet and Sanji worried that they were missing Zoro.
"He's been panicking more lately." Sanji said as he recalled his search for the twins not too long ago. "And there have been some confusing emotions lately. One minute he'd mad but the next he's perfectly fine."
The other members nodded their heads as Sanji's statements.
"He doesn't drink as much either." Nami noted. "Or eat as much, right?" She glanced at Robin who nodded beside her.
Chopper wrote all of this down with Zoro's symptoms. He added other statements from the members for a few more minutes before continuing on.
"He needs to rest and to be mentally relaxed. Right now, he's making the small effects that are associated with the perfume have huge effects on him due to how stressed he is. Working out should be kept to a smaller degree for now, we'll have to help out more with the twins to give him some space, anything that we can do, no matter how little, can help him. I had Franky give Zoro some water with medicine in it to put him to sleep."
Sanji clasped his hands together and looked at them. How the hell did the idiot let himself get this stressed and not say anything.
"Sanji."
Sanji looked up at the ship's doctor, ignoring the sympathetic looks that he was getting.
"You play a crucial role in this you know. Try to help him, even when he says no. I know that he'll listen to you, even if it seems like he doesn't."
The blonde man nodded his head, not even thinking about eating anymore.
