The First Redhead
Author's Note: Hello everyone! I know that I have been gone for a while, and I apologize but there were issues between another author and myself, and they had to be resolved first… and then I had to graduate from college! I will try to update all of my stories soon and be consistent with the updates, but now the real world and my job are calling. I don't see too many chapters left for this one, but if you think of something that you want to see or if you want to request a fic, either comment of message me.
This will all be pretty AU from now on as Dinozzo is still there and everything is still okay within the MC universe in my opinion.
Enjoy
Disclaimer: I do not own anything NCIS or MC. Also title for this chapter came from a comment from Glistening Sun.
Note: Jack Raydor will be Jack, and Jackson Gibbs will be Jackson from now on.
Shots Fired
Buzz had sealed himself in electronics and monitored the building to guide everyone to the intruders, while the Jacks were forced into the Captain's office.
Both Jacks were now stuck in Sharon's office as they heard the building finish going into lock down. Lights were out and all of the electronic doors had been shut down to prevent people from breaching them. Jackson had sat down in one of Sharon's chairs and watched as Jack paced back and forth within the office. Jack was muttering to himself about needing a drink and how it was all his wife's fault that he was stuck here with gun men in the building.
"Son, you might want to sit down before you wear a hole in the floor," Jackson gestured to the chair next to his.
"If you don't mind," Jack said in a sickly sweet voice, "I will do whatever the hell I want to my wife's office. She deserves whatever damage happens for getting me stuck in a situation like this."
"Wife?" Jackson looked at the man in front of him.
Jackson had heard from his son that Sharon had gotten married in California and that they had a few children, but his son was not one to have an affair. Neither was Sharon for that matter.
"Yes, Shar-on is my wife," Jackson stared at Jack with a look of doubt, "Alright, she is my ex-wife, but only just. I signed the papers not too long ago."
"And why exactly does she deserve this type of behavior? I have known Sharon for a long time and she never once seemed to have a mean bone in her body unless it was given a reason to grow back."
Jack laughed, "Trust me, she was definitely great when she was younger, but give her a couple of children and a job and she suddenly loses all of that warmth."
"Hmm," Jackson stood up and squared up to Jack, "It seems to me that there is even more warmth there than when I last saw her. It makes me wonder if she was the cold one in the relationship."
Meanwhile downstairs…
Gibbs was leading the group of agents and detectives floor by floor as they worked their way down to the source of the shots. Occasionally they would hear shots from a floor below and they had run into a couple of guys dressed in masks, but they had yet to find the source. They had made sure that patrol officers and other detectives were helping them flank the gun men on every floor.
"Lieutenant Provenza and Andy," Sharon whispered behind her, "as soon as we hit the lobby I want you two to go to the right and take care of clearing the conference rooms. Amy and Julio go to the left and clear the press room. Mike, you take Agent McGee and a few patrol officers and clear the parking garage. These guys got in somehow and we don't want them getting out. Jethro and I will clear the main entrance."
As soon as they made it through the door from the stairwell into the lobby, everyone broke off to do their respective jobs clearing the remainder of the building. Flynn and Provenza found three guys that were holding members of the staff hostage in a side room and were able to incapacitate them quickly. They proceeded to escort everyone out the side exit of the building and met up with Amy and Julio who had done the same at the front of the building.
"Sykes," Provenza called her over, "Is this all you found?"
He gestured to the four men dressed in uniforms similar to theirs but with small details missing, and what appeared to be around 10 hostages.
"Yes, sir," Julio answered, "It looks like the uniforms are how they were able to sneak in. They look pretty authentic, and nobody would have noticed anything unless they were really looking."
"But I don't understand how they expected only a few guys to overrun the whole department," Amy said as she surveyed their catches.
"It looks like there are only a few other guys that we need to catch," Mike said as he, McGee and the patrol officers emerged from the garage.
"There were 4 cars in the garage that have faulty passes that allowed them into the building," McGee said as he quickly counted the bad guys in front of them, "I think there is one more guy in there."
"I though you said there were four cars, Tim," Amy said.
"There are, but I figure they would only put three people per car to not raise suspicion and so they could put stuff in the back."
"How do you know they had stuff in the back?" Flynn looked worried.
"There were at least two black duffle bags in the back of each car, and given that we have about 10 guys in total so far, I think there is at least one more," McGee looked at the others, "I just think that there has to be somebody in charge, and they wanted more than just to unsuccessfully storm the building."
"As much as I don't like to agree with the feds, I think you are right Agent McGee," Provenza grumbled, "they went in there knowing that we would find them. They were out gunned from the moment they walked in there, and they would have known that…there is something we are missing."
"Where are Gibbs and Captain Raydor?" McGee asked as he realized they were not with the rest of the group.
"They should have been done by now. They were only clearing the main lobby," Julio noted.
Suddenly, one of the guys in their custody laughed, and everyone turned to him.
"What's so funny, asshole?" Flynn yelled, resisting the urge to grab him by the collar.
"That's where the weak point of the building is. All we needed to do was distract everyone with the guns so that the civilians on the upper levels would remain where they were for the lock down. As soon as the bomb was placed, they wouldn't be able to get out before the bomb brought the whole building down. "
Everyone looked panicked as they looked back at the building.
"Flynn, Mike, Sykes and Agent McGee, we are going back in there to override the lock down and warn Agent Gibbs and the Captain," Provenza turned to Julio, "You are in charge of figuring out why they wanted to do this and if there are any other parts of the plan we should know about. I need a few of you patrol guys to stay here and watch these idiots and a few of you to come with us and start evacuating the building."
People were quickly jumping into action heading towards the building and getting ready to evacuate the building. None of them knew how much time they had…at least none of the people that were not in the main lobby.
In the lobby…
Gibbs and Sharon had seen the boss of the operation hooking up something to a pillar at the center of the room. The decided to split up and flank him from either side, but he turned before they could get close enough and here they were at a standoff with the detonator wielding man in the lobby.
"One wrong move from either of you and I flip this switch," the man warned as he backed up to see both Gibbs and Sharon.
"I don't think that is a good idea," Sharon said as she stared at him down the barrel of her gun.
"Are you two stupid?" the man screamed, "Are you prepared to die?"
"Are you?" Gibbs questioned back, slowly approaching him.
The suspect seemed to think about what Gibbs had said and looked back at the bomb. There was still enough time on it to get out before it went off. Two minutes was cutting it close, but he could at least get out of the building. Turning back to Sharon and Gibbs, he threw the detonator towards Sharon and took off running towards the nearest exit. He didn't get very far before a patrol officer grabbed him and threw him to the ground and into cuffs.
Back inside the lobby, Sharon and Gibbs were carefully inspecting the bomb. The timer was down to a minute and some change and there wasn't any clear way to disable it. Provenza and McGee came running into the lobby screaming bomb at the top of their lungs, and both team leaders looked at each other, coming to a decision.
"Get everyone you can out of here, and avoid any elevators. Stick to the outer edges of the rooms, and be prepared if this thing goes off," Sharon said as she waved them along.
"Boss-" McGee tried to talk, but he was quickly shut up and set upstairs.
"Any idea how to disarm this?" Sharon asked as it was now down to seconds.
"No clue," Gibbs responded before grabbing a few colorful wires, "but I don't see a Deadman's switch or a mercury trigger."
10 seconds left…
Sharon looked at Gibbs as he concentrated on the wires in front of him. He had a knife out, but she could tell that he had no idea which one to cut.
7 seconds left…
Sharon looked at the clock and reached for the wires. She had a crazy idea, but at this point it wouldn't make a huge difference whether it worked or not.
4 seconds left…
Gibbs watched as Sharon's hand reached around all of the wires in front of them and yanked. Hard. Both of them had their eyes shut tight as they waited for an explosion, but nothing happened. Looking down at the clock, they realized that it had frozen on 2 seconds left. The bomb was disabled.
"And I thought I was supposed to be the risk taker in the relationship," Gibbs deadpanned as Sharon collapsed to the floor in relief.
"Well, I figured I should change things up to keep you on your toes, Jethro," she laughed.
Gibbs sat down next to her on the floor and bumped shoulders with her.
"You did good," he said softly as she looked up at him, "but if you ever take a risk like that again, I will kill you myself."
"Yes, sir" she said while throwing him a mock salute.
Gibbs' phone rang suddenly, and he answered it with his customary, "Yeah, Gibbs."
Sharon could hear Agent McGee's voice on the other end and could only guess that her Lieutenant was probably next to the phone as well.
Sure enough, McGee was interrupted by Provenza grabbing the phone, "Captain, what the hell is going on down there? Did you disable the bomb or not?"
Gibbs passed the phone to her before standing up to look at the explosive to their right.
"Yes, Lieutenant," Sharon sighed, "The bomb seems to be disabled for now. Continue with the evacuation until the Bomb Squad can dispose of it."
"Alright, we have most of the building alerted and they are sticking to stairwells. Are you sure the bomb is disabled?" Provenza questioned anxiously.
"Well, it is stuck at two seconds and the building did not explode, so I would say that it is dormant for now."
Upstairs 5 minutes later…
Jack was now sitting in a corner pouting at the fact that the old man across from him had thoroughly put him in his place. He did not remember a lot about Jackson Gibbs, but he sure remembered how terrifying he could be when angered. Jack had tried to defend what little remained of his dignity, but Jackson was quick to sit him in his place.
Buzz came into the office suddenly, announcing that Sharon and Gibbs had managed to disable the bomb and the bomb squad was on their way. Both Jacks stood up and followed Buzz to the nearest stairwell to leave the building. When they got outside, Jackson went straight to Gibbs and Sharon, who were talking to the bomb tech in charge. They were wrapping up their conversation when Sharon saw Jackson and ran to him to give him a hug.
"Jack, are you alright?"
"Don't worry about me, Sharon," Jackson said, "I was more worried about you two."
"We are fine, dad. Sharon on the other hand was taking some risks-" Gibbs was cut off by Sharon interjecting.
"If you had done something sooner, I wouldn't have been so risky. Plus, that risk saved your butt, so I do not want to hear it," Sharon said mockingly.
Jackson raised his eyebrows at that comment, and just laughed.
"Why don't we go out to dinner? My treat," Jackson said.
"That sounds wonderful," Sharon smiled.
Jackson Raydor stood in the background. Watching as his ex-wife went on with her life…without him. That was going to take some getting used to.
To be continued…
