A/N
So... that last arc of Bleach was pretty damn shitty, right? I hated it, I'm not gonna lie about it. It honestly ruined the series for me, but I would rather like to think it ended after Aizen was defeated. :V
And I hit a really bad case of writer's block because this is the first thing I've tried writing in a couple years. So I wouldn't expect regular updates. It's also gonna sound awkward, because I have gotten really, really rusty. :V Which sucks.

He didn't really bother trying to reassure his next door neighbours he was an okay guy, because in truth he wasn't. So Kenpachi just walked right past the obviously frightened old couple and tried using the card for his door. He pushed it into the slot and scowled when it beeped red. Another try and it beeped red again. He muttered a "fucking piece of shit" and tried once more and smirked in triumph when it turned green and opened the door. He remembered the first night here when he and Yachiru spent a good five minutes in the hall trying to work the damn thing.
Once he was inside without any prying eyes he relaxed and ambled over to the room to gently lay Yachiru down. Kenpachi smirked when she turned over and hugged a pillow close with a smile. They spent a long night looking. A yawn broke through and he mumbled before he turned and started for the bathroom. He can't sleep yet without washing all this sweat off. Yachiru usually complained when he went to bed without taking a bath.
He spent a couple minutes trying to get the shower ready and heaved a big sigh.
This was taking forever. Taking care of a hollow shouldn't take so long, and everyone back in the Soul Society obviously thought so too since they contacted him yesterday. And the fucking look he got from the old man when he said he didn't find it yet...
A scowl crossed his face.
Old bastard.
He should be here so he can see that finding one hollow in a city wasn't easy. He paused as he stood under the spray of water. Actually, the old man's senses were far better than his own. He could probably find it in the first hour. The only reason he was even here was because he volunteered and it was too boring in the Seireitei. He hasn't had a good fight in years. He grumbled.
Which fucking sucked.
He dried himself off and stared into the mirror with a blank stare. So... if he couldn't find this hollow with the tracker then it probably meant it could hide its' reiatsu. And that was a pain in the ass. Could it also think for itself? Most weaker hollows didn't have reasoning, but if it was hiding then it was probably smarter than most.
Kenpachi scoffed and rolled his eyes. Whatever. He just had to kill it.
He dried his hair and tried to stifle his yawn, shutting the bathroom door behind himself. Walking over to the window he looked out and hummed lightly. They were stuck here until he can find it. So the only option was to wait until it showed itself. Silence was the only thing in the room before he gave a small nod.
Yeah, he'll treat Yachiru around town.
Spoil her rotten before they go back.
Decision made, he turned around and threw the towel onto the couch. For now it was time to take a nap, just for a few hours, and get ready to head out. They had enough funding to last the week. And if they ran out then he can just contact the Seireitei.
He collapsed on the bed, laying on his stomach and glancing at Yachiru when she mumbled something grouchily. A smirk crossed his face when he saw her face scrunch up before he reached up and ruffled her hair. Kenpachi reached for her and put her on the right side of the bed while he took the left and grabbed the blanket to cover them both.
Time to sleep.
It wasn't long before he was sleeping, as well.
Cheek resting on her hand, she stared at the pages blankly. Honestly, she was just bored. Chisako glanced around the classroom to see some students glancing at the clock every few seconds. She already knew how to do these equations, and already finished the work, she was just doing the same. It was almost time to go home. Since she was still recovering the teachers took her off the rosters to clean the classroom.
A smirk crossed her face.
Heheh.
When the bell rang most students stood up instantly while she quickly looked over her work. She just had one more assignment to do and she was done for the day. Chisako put her belongings in her schoolbag and put the strap on her shoulder. She had to... do nothing, actually.
She really needed a hobby.
Chisako walked down the halls and mildly noted the groups of friends giggling and laughing with each other. Sure felt pretty damn sad that she had no friends. You'd think that being in this school for a couple years would've gotten her some friends. But her awkwardness, plus the way her smile seemed to unease people, chased off anyone that bothered to try. Whatever. She didn't need friends.
She needed more ways to cook.
Humming in thought, Chisako looked at the sky when she walked out of the building and pursed her lips. She needed more opportunities to cook, but she was also very extremely lazy. Such a conundrum. She gave a small snort as she started for the direction of her house.
"I need a lifestyle change." She looked upwards with a scowl.
Only to see something jump by.
She jumped and turned her head, opening her eyes wide when she saw someone land on top of the building. Chisako stood in the middle of the sidewalk, obviously annoying some people as she continued to stand in their way and gawk. What the fuck was that?! She jumped when she saw them lunge for another building, turning in their direction before she decided screw it.
She took off running in the direction, keeping her eyes on this superhuman. That's what they had to be, right?! It had to be a superhuman! There's no way someone can jump that high and far. An excited smile appeared on her face.
Chisako ran into someone and cringed. "Sorry!"
"Be more careful!" She received a scowl as the old man huffed and dusted himself off.
She gave a sheepish smile and ran away from him. What a grouch. She apologized, didn't she? However, that minor confrontation was enough time for her to lose track of the superhuman. Chisako slowed down and furrowed her brows.
"Dammit..." She gave a disappointing sigh.
The first thing that was amazing and she already lost it. Chisako hunched her shoulder and scowled. Time to go sulk in her room and watch tv. And maybe try and find a snack. Turning around, with an expression that made some people give her uneasy stares, she made her way home. Who knows when something that amazing will pop up in her life...?
Yachiru obviously wasn't impressed.
That's what he noticed when he turned briefly from his "fight" with the hollow. She was crouched on the ground with her hands on her cheeks, looking very bored and not at all interested. Kenpachi frowned and, with a quick flick, cut the hollow in half. He sheathed his sword and walked over to Yachiru, seeing her chewing on some kind of gummy candy. She didn't waste any time until she was on his shoulder again.
"I'm booooored!" Yachiru rested her chin on his shoulder and pouted.
"I know," Kenpachi glared ahead and just started walking. He might as well patrol, since there was nothing better to do. "Me, too."
"Can't we go to the park?" Yachiru looked at him with huge, pleading eyes.
Eyes that didn't work. "I don't want to go to a place full of crying brats." He sneered.
"You can push me on the swings." Yachiru said, with a wide grin.
"No."
"We can go talk to Takashi?"
A bigger scowl crossed his face. "No."
Takashi was their neighbour to the left of their room. He had obviously been very surprised to see them before he started going on about his boyfriend and wouldn't shut the fuck up about it, even when Kenpachi was trying to walk away. Something about being in town for a couple days for business but was looking for an anniversary gift. All he did was give him a thumbs up and tried desperately to open his door while Yachiru was asking if Takashi knew any amazing candy shops.
He was a decent guy, but he'd rather not talk to someone that couldn't seem to tell that someone didn't wanna talk. Like him. Yachiru had the social skills while his were shit.
His tracker went off, which he grabbed immediately and held it in front of his face. Wasn't far. Hope was there, hope that it was their hollow, but it was small. Anyone that was near him screamed or jumped violently when dirt suddenly flew into the air when he took off.
Eyes trained onto the tracker he quickly unsheathed his sword to ready himself. Kenpachi skidded around the corner and got a look at the hollow. His shoulders dropped in disappointment. It had different colors. He rolled his eyes and cursed under his breath while Yachiru jumped off.
The hollow, some ugly fucker, was crouched low and following something. Kenpachi frowned and tried peering around it, but couldn't see with its' big ass in the way. He flared reiatsu, just a bit, and saw it tense and turn towards him. A disappointed sigh left his mouth. He could barely feel anything from it.
It roared, loudly, which made him roll his eyes when it started barrelling towards him. This obviously wasn't the hollow, so he flicked his wrist and hit its head off, watching as the body disappeared. Keeping his sword out he started looking around the area, trying to find the soul that it was hunting. That's the only reason he could think of as to why it was crouching around.
No soul.
Except for some girl.
Kenpachi quirked a brow, seeing a young woman uncover her ears and look around in confusion. Her brows were furrowed, eyes squinted and looking adorably puzzled. Okay, so... no one that needed to go to the Soul Society. He sheathed his sword and heaved a big sigh. Turning towards Yachiru and seeing her opening another bag of candy he opened his mouth to tell her to wait until after they had some food to eat when suddenly...
"Did you hear that noise?"
He blinked in surprise and turned his head downward, seeing the chick(with grey hair?) staring at him curiously. Her eyes were still squinted, so that was probably just how she always looked. A glance at Yachiru showed that she was equally surprised before a grin crossed her face.
"That was really loud," The girl continued, rubbing the side of her head with one side of her mouth twisted. "Any idea what that was?"
Kenpachi stayed silent and looked around the area. Yeah... it was just him and Yachiru in the area. Was she... talking to him? He glanced at her and raised an eyebrow, feeling really confused. She can see him? Humans can't see shinigami, so then how the hell can she...? Unless she had more reiatsu than other humans? That was the only explanation.
Oh, great, she was staring at him uneasily.
He rolled his eyes. "Yeah, I heard it."
That look of confusion never left her face. A furrow in her brow appeared, and he frowned when she looked him over and took a step closer. She seemed to be concentrating really hard while Yachiru darted towards her. Did he have something on him that she was really interested in?
"You can see us?" Yachiru grinned up at the weirdo(at least he thought she was weird).
"Uh... yeah?" She kept looking between them. "But... not... clearly?"
He blinked. "The hell's that supposed to mean?"
She jumped. "Oh, uh, nothing!" She gave a nervous grin and started stepping away. "Uh... it was nice to meet you!" She gave a quick bow and started walking away. Quickly.
Kenpachi frowned to himself, watching as the strange woman walked around the corner. Wasn't everyday someone could see him while he wasn't in a gigai. He paused. Come to think of it, where the hell did they leave those gigai? He was about to pick up Yachiru when he saw her walking in the direction the weirdo went in. Quickly picking her up he gave her a scowl, seeing her curl up and pout. Doesn't matter that the human saw them, they didn't have time to talk to her. They had a couple gigai to track down.
Chisako stared at the ground silently, making her way to her house.
She couldn't see them clearly. They looked... blurry. When they shouldn't. What the hell? It couldn't be her eyesight. Her brows stayed furrowed, a hand on her chin as she stared confusedly at the ground. Was something wrong with her? She saw them, after having heard that noise, and she couldn't figure out why they didn't look clearer the closer she got. That's the entire reason she even approached the weird duo.
Seriously, why would they wear those clothes?
And when that guy spoke... it sounded like she was listening through a wall.
Pulling out her keys and opening the door she couldn't help but think that this was way too weird. There must be something wrong with her if she can't see people clearly, right? This was the sixth time this week she saw people that looked blurry. And her mom only looked confused when she tried explaining, and a little concerned. Was she having hallucinations? But those hallucinations talked to her. They can't do that, right?
And what did the short one mean by "you can see us?" Was she not supposed to see them? She couldn't even make out how their faces looked, that's how blurry they were to her. It must've been hot, too, that's the only explanation she had when the air around them seemed to shimmer.
Chisako fell face first into the couch and groaned out loud.
She didn't want to use her time away from school thinking this much.
Rolling onto her face, she stared at the ceiling for a few moments before she reached for the remote and turned on the tv. She spent the next hour watching whatever was on tv while her mind was focused on this weird condition. She had even searched the internet to see if anyone else had the same illness, or whatever, and so far she came up empty.
Maybe they were dead people?
Chisako snorted loudly just as the phone started ringing, reaching over to pick it up and scowling when her mom told her she was going to be late tonight. Another day of heating up food. Or... She pushed herself up and grinned. Walking over to the kitchen and grabbing the apron she felt her spirits lift.
This was a perfect opportunity to cook.
The next day was the same, and the next day, as well.
No fucking hollow.
Kenpachi scowled and started stomping around the rooftop while Yachiru started tapping buttons with a focused look on her face. She was convinced she could get it to find the hollow. All she managed to do was reset it. This was pissing him off. Sure, he had hollows to kill, but he could barely call those fights. His mood was getting worse. And it was only made worse when Takashi had hugged him goodbye since he was heading back home. It wasn't like they had been friends.
He rolled his eyes while Yachiru handed him the tracker with a glare, apparently upset she didn't get it to work to her standards.
"I need a drink," Kenpachi scoffed and didn't react when Yachiru sent him a glare. "We've been here for almost a week and this hollow is still fucking hiding!"
Yachiru was silent before she grinned. "You just need to make a new friend." As if that was all they needed.
Kenpachi huffed. "That Takashi guy left."
His little fukutaicho was silent for a moment. "What about the human that saw us?" Yachiru asked with a wide grin, one that made him narrow his eyes.
...Oh, right, that weirdo woman. "No."
"But she saw us!" Like that was enough reason to go find her.
"This is a city, Yachiru," Kenpachi held his hand out towards said city, staring at the tall buildings with distaste. "We're not gonna find her. And... I don't wanna find her." They weren't here to make friends. He was bored, he wanted to kill this hollow, and he wanted to go home.
Yachiru crossed her arms and glared up at him. "Stop being grouchy, Ken-chan."
If anything that only made him more grouchy.
Which was obvious when he copied her stance and sneered down at her. They spent the next couple minutes glaring at each other before Yachiru grabbed his haori and started tugging him to the edge of the building. He was grouchy, all he wanted to do now was go back to their room and go to sleep. Yachiru jumped onto his shoulder and pointed to the street. Fine. Fine, he'd do that.
He jumped from the ledge and landed on the ground, cracking the concrete and causing a few people to scream in alarm. He just started trudging down the street, waiting for his tracker to do something. Like telling them where the damn hollow was. Or an order that they can just forget this mission and go home.
The next hour was spent just following Yachiru's directions, her attempts at distracting obvious to him. She was trying to calm him down, which was kind of working. But once they came upon a playground she hopped down from his shoulder and made her way towards the swing. It was empty, away from the more populated area. Kenpachi looked upwards and sighed before he ambled over to the swing next to Yachiru and sat down. It groaned under his weight.
Yachiru was obviously happy, making herself go higher. He smiled to himself when he saw her grin at him.
"...I'm still not happy." He was gonna remain grouchy until they went home.
All she did was stick her tongue out at him, which made him start grinning in amusement.
When he looked forward he blinked when he saw someone looking in their direction. Oh, the weirdo woman. Her brows her raised before she... started walking towards them... A scowl crossed his face. Great. As if his mood wasn't already in a bad place. He started searching through his pockets. Where the hell was that thing that changed memories? He can't leave her remembering them after all. He already has the other Taichos complaining enough about him.
"Um, hi," She gave an awkward smile. Her appearance reminded him of someone, but he didn't care enough to try and remember who. "Um... so... I just wanted to know..."
"Know what?" Kenpachi grunted in question, standing up from the swing while he continued to look for the damn thing. Did he forget it? He wouldn't be surprised.
She took a step back when he stood up, obviously surprised by his height. "Uh... I..." She rubbed the back of her head and bit her bottom lip.
He rolled his eyes and smirked when he found the thing. Finally. "Out with it." He might as well hear her out.
"...Is there a reason you're blurry for me?"
Kenpachi paused and frowned in confusion while Yachiru continued to push herself on the swing. Blurry? He squinted at her, trying to figure out what the hell she meant by that. Blurry... Did this mean she had enough reiatsu to see them, but not enough to see them clearly?
"This has been killing me, dude," She opened her eyes wider, and stared at him with pleading eyes. Which, if he was honest, made her look adorable. Which made him scowl. "Just tell me that and I'll leave you alone."
"No."
She scowled. "Okay, yeah, I know I'm a stranger, but there's no reason to be a douche."
He rolled his eyes. "I don't care about your problems, woman." He sneered at her.
She reared back in surprise and looked mighty furious, but he's known some pretty scary people. So her expression didn't frighten him. It just made him scoff, which only pissed her off some more by the hunch of her shoulders. The girl took a deep breath and breathed out slowly.
"Yeah... okay... yeah, you got a point," She was silent and stared at him for a long while, which he didn't care for. He was about to use the damn device on her when she leaned forward. "Are you... a hallucination?"
He blinked before he shrugged. Whatever. It's not like she'll remember this. He held the thing in front of her face, about to press the button, when she did something that made him freeze in surprise while Yachiru gave a surprised laugh.
She had reached up and touched his cheeks with her hands, basically cupping his face. He blinked rapidly for a moment. Zaraki Kenpachi was a scary man, everyone knew it, so everyone stayed out of his way. No one wanted to be friends with a violent man such as himself. Except for the weird women that wanted to "help" him be more social-able. Which was annoying as hell. So he wasn't used to people suddenly touching him.
He stayed still while she continued to touch him, running her hands up his face and touching his hair, too shocked to move.
The fuck...?
She was too short to touch the top of his head, but she continued to explore him. Her face was scrunched up, muttering something about how he was too solid to be a hallucination but it was the only explanation she had. He scowled and was about to push her away when she did something that shocked both him and Yachiru.
She suddenly slapped him, face blank.
It was silent.
Yachiru's eyes were huge, jaw hanging open.
Kenpachi was frozen, feeling the slight sting to his cheek, before his face started to storm over.
"...Okay, that felt way to solid to be a hallucination," The bitch stared at her hand in confusion. She jumped. "...Holy shit, I just slapped someone."
Kenpachi towered over her, stepping closer and curling his lip back into a snarl. Yachiru grabbed his haori and tried tugging him away while he shook in anger. The crazy bitch(that was her name now, he decided) stared at him in horror before she gave a slight start and stared at him more closely. Before she could say anything more, or do something even more crazy like punching him, he held the device in front of her and pressed the button.
Smoke suddenly filled the area when it went off in front of her face, and he coughed before he grabbed Yachiru and jumped onto the nearest building.
"At least I didn't do anything worse!" He snarled, still shaking in anger and grabbing his tracker with furious eyes. "We're looking for the nearest, weakest hollow and killing it!"
Yachiru hung from his hand before she was shaking, which caused him to glance at her and scowl. She bit her lip, hard, before peals of laughter escaped her, causing him to roll his eyes and start jumping from building to building, all the while she kept laughing.
He got slapped.
It wasn't funny, he thought while he glared at the tracker.
Humans were fucking annoying.
Chisako coughed and sneezed from the amount of smoke that was in the area, trying to wave the smoke from her face. Jeez! She hacked and breathed in loudly when she made it out of the smoke, screwing up her face rubbing her mouth. What was that? It's a good thing she doesn't have asthma. She turned in the direction of the park and furrowed her brows.
"...He didn't have to do that."
Whatever the hell that was.
And at the last moment, before he did whatever it was he did, he had looked more clear...
A/N One hell of a meeting, huh?
So, I'm in the transformers fandom, and I draw all the time, which is why I don't write much anymore. It's mostly due to writer's block, but eehhh. But, the reason I was able to get this chapter out at all is because I pulled out all my bleach books from the crawlspace and nostalgia hit me.
I miss being excited about the series, but the quincy arc honestly ruined it for me.
Plus I started remembering all the stuff I had planned for this. I sped up the plot a lot, because there's a certain part I wanted to reach. If I ever reach it. :/
