"Talking"
Chapter 20
Cries of anguish carried across the echoing canyon, the group was in shock one minute Harry had been standing there the next he was taken, it happened so quickly no one had time to grab him, only watch on helplessly as he was dragged away.
By the cliff wall, left on his knees, Riddick's was in shock, everything felt numb. The very air was like thick fog around him his mind as his heart stopped beating inside his chest. His silver eyes remained glued toward the cliff edge where Harry had disappeared over as he keeled on the rocky ground in front of it, his bruised hands throbbed in pain he didn't feel any of it.
His mind played every image of his mate, Harry had become one of the closest souls to him since childhood, he had opened the door to his heart and made himself at home in its center. The first god damn thing that had been good in his life was taken away from him just like everything else.
Riddick's pain was overwhelming he couldn't think of anything else, he didn't hear the others screaming his Vixen's name, calling out into the darkness for him to come back, the sobbing of Ali or the tears falling from the eyes of Shazza and Jack. None of it registered to him, not the cries, not the rain, not even the creatures that screeched their hunger.
"HARRY!" Riddick roared out in rage into the night. The beast inside was caught up in its rage and despair at the loss of their mate, they had only just found days ago on this hellish planet after looking for so long. It wanted to kill everything, to destroy the bastards till there was none left on this fucking planet. Their mutilated corpses spread around him, blood staining the earth beneath his feet and their cries of pain feeling the air, that was the only thing that would calm the beast inside. Both man and beast wanted the pain to stop, to no longer feel they're heartbreaking.
The 'what ifs' appeared in his mind's eyes, over and over again, what if he had done what he had wanted from the start, just grabbed Harry as soon as darkness had fallen and made their way to the skiff by themselves, leaving behind the weaklings.
Harry, his captivating heart wouldn't of let him do that, he had been too kind, too compassionate to those that were in need. Who couldn't defend themselves and because of this, it had cost them both.
The image of his mate when he first laid eyes on him appeared before his eyes. He could clearly see those bewitching emerald eyes staring back at him. They always felt like his mate was looking right into his soul and had found him worthy to be his mate. Those deep red lips that had begged to be kissed over and over again, they had smiled so much at him it had filled him with joy that had been missing in his life for so long. When they had been in bed together for the first time he had loved running his hand through those silky locks that flowed down like a waterfall down his back, he had never met someone with such dark hair, it had reminded him of the Ravens he had seen as a kid, their ink-black wings soaring through the sky when he had spoked them. His nose picked up the hint of Harry's scent that still lingered in the air, the most pleasant scent he had ever come across and it was being washed away by the rain.
He would never get to experience the pleasure and joy his mate brought into his life, his heart and love were gone. His world of colour was merely filled with darkness now.
Riddick clenched his eyes shut and gritted his teeth, trying in vain to burn that lovely image of his mate within his mind, to hold it forever. But it withered to the image of his mate scared face as he was torn away, disappearing into the darkness he couldn't see through. And with that Riddick became the convict he had been before. He stopped feeling, stopped giving a shit about anything but survival.
The creatures screeches grew louder around them.
"Riddick! What do we do!" Jack yelled in fear. Her eyes wide and shiny as she looked at the downed man. All of them were frighted. Bar Fry who hung back from everyone and kept her head down.
Shazza held her and Ali tightly to her side, tears streaming down her cheeks they were quickly washed away by the rain. One minute Harry had been standing there the next he was gone just like the others, just like her Zeke. 'Not Harry please not him. Why he was the best of us all. Harry.' her heart cried in misery.
Riddick slowly rose to his feet. He was fucked if he was going to help the ones that played a part in him losing his Vixen. His heart slowly covered its self in ice, numbing the pain with its cold touch. He felt nothing as he turned and saw the tears in many of their eyes.
The darkness closed around them and he knew it was time to lose the dead weight.
Looking over the cliff walls he quickly spotted a small empty cave a little ahead, storming towards it he peered inside and saw that it was a small cave that was big enough to room all of them. He just had to move the large rock that covered it partly. Grabbing hold of it he shifted it aside to make room for them to get through, no thoughts of what he was about to do cross his mind.
Once finished he faced them and beckoned, "Hide here! Now!"
They were quick to follow his orders, still shocked over losing Harry. Jack was first into the cave followed by Shazza and the weeping Ali who she holds close to her. Imam brought the limping Suleiman inside away from the calling creatures and not far behind was the quite Fry, she stopped at the entrance to gaze into Riddick's eyes, unlike the others her pale face was blank, showing no emotion over losing Harry. This pissed Riddick royally off.
"Get in NOW!" He near roared in her face. He stood still for a moment, her eyes glued to his before finally doing as he said and joining the others inside.
As soon as she crossed the threshold he moved the bolder back over the entrance. Blocking them inside and the creatures out.
'I'm done saving people.' Riddick thought as he took one last look at the stone, 'Its time to get the hell off this shithole planet and forget everything that ever happened here. This was nothing but a nightmare.'
His ice-covered heart was filled with emptiness as he turned from the tomb he placed the others, moving swiftly over to where he had dropped the cells he grabbed the rope and once again dragged the load behind him. This time he wouldn't stop, not for anything. Making his way down the dark path his mind blank, all he concentrated on was surviving this shit.
Back with the stranded group, they huddled together holding their touches tightly as they stared at where Riddick once stood, their exit now closed by said man.
"Why is he still out there?" Jack asked, wide-eyed as the tension silence got to her.
No one answered her, Shazza just held her closer and prayed for a miracle.

Panting slightly Riddick worked as fast as he could through the canyon. The creatures had left him alone for now, most likely hanging around where he had left the others. He thought nothing on his action, that he had sentenced them to death by leaving them behind. Tracking through the mud he came to a high slop, gritting his teeth and tightening his grip on the rope he carried onwards. Nothing was going to stop him now.
Struggling, he crawled up the mud hill, his feet slid from underneath him constantly as one arm pulled cells behind him as he used the others to clawed through the mud-covered ground. He paid no mind to the burning pain in his shoulders as it was nothing compared to the raging despair in his cold heart.
Nothing.

Shazza looked around their small cave, more a hole in the wall but it kept them safe for now. Her thoughts tried to shy away from the pain she was feeling inside at the loss of Harry. She didn't want to think of him being gone, just like her Zeke. Shaking her head she turned her attention to something else. Seeing their touches getting lower on fuel she got an idea. In this small cave, they didn't need all three lights.
Turning to Imam who was watching out the tiny gap in the rock wall to see outside. She asked. "How much fuel do you have in your bottle Imam?"
Glancing at his, he shook his head. "Not much. I'm afraid, maybe an inch at most."
"Jack?" Shazza looked to the girl.
She held hers up to show that there wasn't even a quarter left in the bottom.
"Damn," Shazza whispered at seeing such little fuel left. Her idea would work but not for long but anything was better than letting them go out one by one. "Pass them here. We have to place every little bit of fuel into one bottle, it should last a little longer."
Imam nodded, it was a sound plan, as they don't have much time before the light went out. They got to work quickly, Shazza and Jack careful pour the last of the alcohol from two of the bottles into one, Jack even squeezed the rope ends to get every drop if had absorbed. Suleiman and Ali titillated the empty bottles so the drops left inside pooled closer to the lips of the bottle. All worked with interns forces, quick but carefully so not to waste a single drop of precision fuel that was the only thing keeping them alive.
When they finished Shazza was disheartened to see that all their effaced hadn't even fill half the bottle. Turning to stare at Imam Shazza couldn't hide the distress in her eyes. Their light will bearly last an hour if that. Imam shared the same look turning away to gaze out into the raining night. His two sons sat not far from him. Little Ali had once again started crying again and moved deeper into Suleiman's arms, the little boy was so upset at losing the man that saved him, he had grown to see Harry as a friend and another big brother to see him taken away like that was something he will never forget. Imam looked sadly at his youngest, he wished greatly to lift his boys' spirits but there was nothing he could
do. placing a hand on Suleiman's shoulder he squeezes it before turning to look out again he will stand guard and hope. Praying he could keep them all safe.
Sitting on her own on the opposite wall was Fry. Her face blank expression as she leaned against the rock walk not helped with any of the group's plans. Not seeing the point. She hadn't spoken once since they lost Harry not that they had notice or even spoken to her.
"He's not comin' back is he?" Jack whispered what they all were thinking.
"Harry..." Ali sobs out. Suleiman tightens his hold on his baby brother as Shazza and Imam shard a look of despair, with Harry gone what was stopping Riddick leaving them all to their fate.
They didn't see the wickedness enter Fry's eyes and her lips moved into a smug smile before ducking her head to hide it again.
She needed a plan. She wasn't going to die on this fucking planet, not after finally getting rid of the thorn in her side. The satisfaction and delight she felt at seeing the monster creeping down from above the freak had overwhelmed so much her, she couldn't help but grin at him. The confusion and horror in his eyes will stay with her forever, always bring a smile to her face. Now Riddick should slowly come back to himself, now the freaks spell has been broken. Sadly it wasn't in time to stop him leave them but as soon as she worked out a way to get to him he will realize she was meant to be with him. not freaky Harry.
For now, all she could do was sit and think of some way to getting to the skiff.

Finally getting to the top of the hill, Riddick observed he had made it out of the canyon. Through the rain, he could see the settlement. Nothing was blocking his path now and instead of feeling relieved he felt nothing but numbness, his emotions were cut off right now, oh he knew that he would be raging later but for now, he felt nothing. The coldness was his friend right now.
An image of a smiling Harry appeared before him, he quickly shoved it back and locked it away, all that image did was cause pain to flare in his heart.
Giving a great pull he dragged the cells through the mud. He ran fast as he could, paying no mind to his body protesting and straining against the weight. Nothing was stopping him now.
Seeing no creatures hanging around he quickly made his way to the skiff. Coming out a cluster of buildings he came out at the front of the skip, making his way around to the side he dragged the cells to the back. Seeing it still open from earlier he looked inside and saw no creatures nesting inside.
'Pity, I wouldn't have minded gutting one of those fuckers right now.' Riddick thought darkly, just as he was about to enter the ship and start hocking up the cells a voice suddenly floated through the wind stopped him dead in his tracks.
'Riddick...'
his head shoot-around, he couldn't see anyone or anything. The other's hadn't followed him so who was calling his name. There was nothing around him but abandoned buildings and the only sound was the rain falling onto there metal roofs. he was alone. not even the creatures were around to bother him. shaking his head. "I'm hearing things, this place is playing with my head."
Again a voice called out and this Riddick recognized who's it was. 'Riddick...'
"Harry" Riddick gasped, feeling the air get knocked from his chest as he dropped the rope and fell to his knees in the mud. His hand rose and clenched his head in pain, rain beating down on him. clenching his eyes shut he gritted out. "You're not here. You're not real. You're fucking GONE!"
Riddick roared into the air, the sound echoing around him before fading into silence.
'My Hunter.'
The beautiful voice of his Vixen called out, tormenting him with its loved filled tone. he felt like he's mate was right around the corner just waiting for him to come but it was impossible, Harry was taken before his very eyes there was no way he should be hearing him when his mate was dead and gone forever. "There's no one here," He said to himself, he felt like he was going insane. 'My minds playing me. He's gone. My Vixen is dead.' Riddick rage within, his mind was torturing him with his mates voice. It caused the ice around his heart to creak sending waves of pain through him.
Taking deep breaths the voice faded away, he gave his head a firm shake before rising to his feet. There was no time to be messing around with ghosts. Grabbing the cropped rope he cast one last to look around him, there was nothing on his planet for him now.
He turned away and made his way into the Skiff, pulling the cells behind him. It was time to get off this shit hole of rock and forget everything that happened here.

Shazza watched the flame on the touch, she took a shaky breath as it got smaller and smaller by the minute. Its orange glow no longer stretching as far as it once did and as it faded the sound from outside were getting louder. The creatures knew their prey would soon be within their talons.
She gazed up to Imam and could see his face flicking into darkness, the light slowly dying. She slowly stood with Jack, holding her hand as imam moved to stand beside his sons, he took their hands and muttered prayers under his breath.
The flame became smaller till it finally ran out of fuel and died, bathing them in darkness.
Jack gripped Shazza's hand and gulped.
Fry stayed sitting her eyes clenched closed and rocked back and forth wishing to be anywhere but here.
Those standing slowly sat on the rocky ground locked in their thoughts when out of nowhere Ali let out a sound of awe. "Pretty."
Shazza looked up to where Ali was and saw him looking at the roof. It didn't register for a second that she could see his little face. 'what.' Shazza quickly turned to jack beside her and could see her as well.
There was light coming from somewhere.
Looking to Ali again she along with the others followed his line of sight and felt her heart jump when she saw glowing things on the roof of the cave. "What the..."
Everyone slowly stood, staring at the lights. Reaching up imam picked two the glowing things off the ceiling and brought his hand down to show them two wiggling worms in his palm.
"Pretty." Ali smiled.
"Yes, Ali. Very pretty." Shazza said with a big grin on her face. Her hope restored with the beautiful sight in front of her. there was so many it looked like little stars all around them.
Fry suddenly spoke up for the first time, an idea in mind. "If we fill one of the empty bottles with these glow worm things I can make my way to the skiff and get us more lights."
"Why you? Why not me or Imam." Shazza asked suspiciously. The plan was sound idea but she didn't trust Fry like she once did. There was no guarantee she would come back and with everything had happened she didn't like Fry's frame of mind. She was to close off now and you couldn't tell what was going on behind those ice-blue eyes. they sent shivers down her spine with how dead they looked now. She hadn't shown any emotions when Harry was taken and even though she knew the both hated each other there should have been something there.
"Because Shazza, I know where the settlement is even in the dark," Fry explained calmly. Hiding all the smugness she had inside. She didn't want to go into the darkness but that was the only way to get to the skiff, with that glowing light and on her own, she would get there faster and be free of this nightmare.
"She is right, Shazza," Imam said, he too did not like the plan but it was the only one they had, and time was running out for them.
"Fine." Shazza sighed, running a hand through her wild wet hair. "Jack, Ali help me pick up as many of these glow bugs as possible, we need to fill a bottle right to the top, Suleiman uses this to scrap the label of the bottle so more light gets through." She passed the boy her pocket knife she had in her belt, Imam translated her instructions to his children who nodded in agreement.
With a plan they got to work moving quickly, moving even faster when the screeches grew closer to their location. Sometimes Imam would stop to look out when the sound came so close that it sounded right outside the door, he let out a breath when the creature moved on. looking through the gap he saw nothing around them right then, grabbing a hold of the boulder he used all his strength to move it aside enough for Fry to squeeze through. Suleiman scraped as fast as he could, trying to clean off as much as he could of the label. Shazza, Jack, and Ali collected many of the bugs and once Suleiman was done they packed them into the bottle till a blue light grows stronger and lit the room.
It wasn't long before all was done and Fry was ready to head out, Shazza held the glowing bottle in her hand and was fighting a battle inside on whether or not to let her be the one to go.
The battle soon came to an end when Fry grabbed the bottle but she didn't let it go just yet. Fry looked into the other woman's eyes, they had a staredown for a moment the tension in the cave rising.
"Shazza..." Imam spoke softly, she sighed and let the bottle go.
Quickly moving from her, Fry took a calming a breath she had thought for a moment Shazza wasn't going to let her have the light but she must still have a little trust, any guilt she should have felt was shoved so deep down it was barely registered it. This was about surviving after all and nothing was holding her back from getting off this planet now. Walking towards the exit she cast one last look at them before disappearing into the darkness, Imam closed the gap with the boulder, he sighed and looked to Shazza, both praying they made the right choice, Fry was their last hope of getting out of this alive.
Ali and Jack had started working on filling another of the bottles with Suleiman help as he scraped the label off with the knife Jack filled it with worms that Ali handed her. when they took everything they could see Ali searched around for any hidden ones, it was their only source of they had now.
Jack grimaced as she plucked the last one that they could see off the wall and walked over to put it into the bottle Suleiman held. Looking over to Ali she saw him shake his head negative when he found no more, glancing at the bottle it was only half full with the little bugs. It wasn't a lot of light but it bathed them in a soft blue glow and made them felt safer than before.
"That's the last one we could find," She told the adults as they settled down. The girl moved to sit beside Shazza and she pulled her into a one-armed hug, Imam had each son on either side of him placing his arms around them as they all huddled together around their only light source. Their lives now rested on Fry's shoulders, Imam and Shazza just hoped they hadn't made the worst mistake of their lives letting Fry go alone.
