Beyond the door 2
The girl smirks when she sees Yuzuru looking surprised at her.
"What's wrong, mister student council president? Cat gets your tongue?" She teasingly asks.
"…Who are you?" Yuzuru asks after he has recovered from surprise.
"I'm just an ordinary girl, my name is Saigusa Haruka." The girl responds.
"You are so ordinary eh? Messing with the students and all…" Yuzuru retorts
She chuckles a bit at Yuzuru's words, "Oh, that huh? Well it is one of a way for me to get your attention. I'm right, aren't I? You got super interested in me because of it."
"So what do you want from me, why are you doing all this?" Yuzuru asks.
"Before I answer that question, shall we play a little game?"
"Game?" Yuzuru seems surprised a bit before continue, "What game?"
"Well, it's really not that much of a game, we will take turn answer each other's question, And the asked person have to answer honestly until one of us call it quit after answer a question." The girl called Suigusa Haruka replies.
"So isn't it just a normal conversation, what's the point of this game?" Yuzuru asks after seeing no point in playing such a game.
"Well, well, it seems like our student council president missed the point of this game." She sarcastically speaks before continue.
"Didn't you notice anything about the significant of this game?"
When she asks that question, Yuzuru seriously thinks about it.
'What? Is there some sort of significant in this game?' Yuzuru thinks hard about it but he can't reach an answer.
"It's simple. Since we will take turn answering we will only get answers of questions only equal or one more to the number of answers we reply and since either of us can quit anytime, you will not get to ask all the questions you want to ask, so you have to think carefully about what to ask first." The girl gives Yuzuru the answer.
"!"
'I see! So that's it!' Yuzuru finally understands the point of this game.
"So will you play it, mister student council president? I won't answer any of your questions unless you play this game."
"Why you have to make this all so complicate?" Yuzuru groans.
"Well, that's because I want to judge you from the way you choose your questions whether you are worthy or not for me to ask you this one little favor." The girl replies evenly.
"So you want to test me?"
"Yes, I want to know what you are made of, Otonashi Yuzuru-san. Will you be considered by me stupid or not is up to your upcoming performance."
Yuzuru thinks about it for a while before saying, "Okay! Then let us play this so called game!"
"I'm glad that we are in agreement. Then since you already asked my name, I will go first."
"Are you human?" The girl asks.
Yes, that is the most important question Haruka want to ask the boy name Otonashi Yuzuru. His presence here is peculiar. Unlike the other souls, he do not move on, and unlike the Artificial intelligences, he plays a much more important role than those AI, helping the souls moving on and all, unlike those AI that just fill in the void.
But for Yuzuru her question seems strange at best, asking him is he a human? Of course he is!
"Yes, I am. Why do you asking that?" Yuzuru asked.
"Is that supposed to be your question?" The girl asked back.
Yuzuru thinks about it for a while before deciding that is an okay question. "Yes, that is my question. So what is the answer?"
"Because you are strange."
"Strange, how am I strange?" Yuzuru feels surprise for a bit before continue asking.
"That's the second question; I do not have the obligation to answer that." The girl said coldly.
"…" Yuzuru stunted. "Because you are strange." That is not a satisfying answer at all!
"Okay, for the next question what are you doing here?"
"What am I doing here? What do you mean?" Yuzuru is confused by her question.
"Exactly what I mean, what are you doing here?"
"Well, I'm the student council president, so doing the council works?"
"No, I mean what are you doing here, what is the purpose of you to be in this place?"
"Ah, so that is what you mean, huh? Well, I'm here to help other students move on, I guess."
"Help other students move on? I see." The girl quietly responds.
"Okay, my turn, how am I strange." Yuzuru asks.
"…" the girl is quiet for a moment before saying, "Are you sure you want to waste two of your opportunities, asking questions like that? I'm a little disappointed in you."
"Well, it is in my belief that I should know what others think of me first before I ask the information about them."
"…" The girl stays quiet for a while before start speaking.
"*sigh* Fine, suit yourself. You are not like other students who are here. That's why you are strange."
"What do you mean by that?" Yuzuru inquires.
"From what I observed there seems to be 3 types of students who are here." The girl says.
"And what are those types?" Yuzuru asks.
"Firstly, there are those students who are the ordinary residents in this world. Their actions are normal like they really are high school students. Secondly, there are those unusual students, who seems to be lost souls who have regrets that came to this world, this group usually disappears after a while, especially after they talk to you," the girl remarks.
"And last but not least, there are you."
"And how am I different from the first 2 groups?" Feeling a little amused, Yuzuru decides to play along.
"You don't seem like the ordinary residents in this world, your actions are not like an ordinary high school students, and unlike the second group, you do not disappear. So you are something in between, a soul who refuses to disappear."
Yuzuru feels shocked that she can guess so accurately, but still answers her.
"Uh huh, I suppose that is what I am."
"So at first, I thought you are kind of like a god of this place who overlook on what happening here, but since you said you are human, my next process of thought is that you are one of the souls, but you refuse to disappear."
"Yes, you are right. And so, what is your next question?" Yuzuru answers cheerfully. He has fun talking with this girl. He thinks that the girl is very clever, to be able to guess his origin right.
"…No, that's enough, I call it quit."
"What?" Yuzuru is shocked.
"What's wrong, didn't I say that we could call it quit any time after we answer a question?" The girl responds.
"But that is…"
"Regret it now? That you did not ask the important questions and just fooling around?"
"…" Yuzuru goes silence. He thinks she was messing with him by choosing to quit the game.
"There is nothing more I need to know from you, so I called it quit." The girl continues.
"But I still have a lot to ask you!" Yuzuru protests.
"And that's why I said you should not waste those opportunities…" The girl coldly said.
"Okay, I will answer you one more question if you agree to a little favor of mine." The girl continues after stays silence for a while.
"What kind of favor?" Yuzuru asks.
"Let me be your helper, that's all."
"Eh…? EHHH?!"
Yuzuru's surprised sound echo in the library.
Today without knowing what is what, he gets a new helper.
So how is it? The second part of beyond the door.
