The senses

"Okay, are you ready yet, Otonashi-san?" A voice asks.

"Yes, I am!" Another voice answers.

"Okay then, here we go, the first sense!" The girl shouts powerfully as she presses the button.

The next moment the girl's eyes brighten up.

"So how is it, Saigusa-san, do you see anything?" Yuzuru asks.

"Nope, no luck," The girl shakes her head in response after a while of looking at Yuzuru's hand.

"I see. So no good, huh…" Yuzuru says dejectedly.

"Don't be so depressed, Otonashi-san. We started all this from scratch, we really couldn't really expect it to turning result so soon," The girl comforts.

"Yes, I know, but I am still a bit disappointed despite knowing that. After all, I believed at the time that your suggestion would succeed, Saigusa-san."

"Yes, I guess so," The girl nods.

Yes, it all started few days ago.

"What did you say again, Saigusa-san?" Yuzuru asked to confirm.

"I said we should try using The Angel Player to strengthen my five senses and see whether I could see, hear, smell, taste, or touch the ring," The girl paused before continue, "Well, I guess smell and taste are not needed to be tested though," She smirked as she said humorously.

"Strengthen your five senses?" Yuzuru repeated.

"Yes, strengthen my five senses."

"I see…" Yuzuru nods. It had never occurred to him before that there was such a way. If you can't see the ring then just strengthen your vision, if you can't hear it then just strengthen your hearing, if you can't feel it, just strengthen your touch. That was the principle behind the girl's words. It was a very rational one too…

"Yes, I guess we can try that, but how?" Yuzuru asked.

"Of course I will make skills in Angel Player that strengthen my five senses, or to be more specific, my vision, my hearing, and my touch," The girl answered.

"You could do that?" Yuzuru continued to ask.

"Don't underestimate me, Otonashi-san. If I couldn't do that much, I wouldn't suggest using The Angel Player with you in the first place," The girl said, felt a little irritated.

"I see. Then I will leave it in your hand!"

"You can count on me!"

And so days have passed since then.

It took the girl for a while but finally she was successful in making a skill to strengthen her vision.

And now they tested it after much anticipation, but the result was…

"It seems to fail," The girl confirms the result.

"Yes," nodding once, Yuzuru agrees.

"Okay, let us try hearing next!" The girl says enthusiastically not minding at all that the first phase of her plan has failed.

A few days later

"Okay, Otonashi-san, try to make a sound with the ring," A voice speaks.

"Yes, I got it," Saying so, Yuzuru knocks a wall with the ring in his hand.

"How is it?" Yuzuru asks hopefully after he finishes.

"Nope, I did hear a sound of knocking, but I did not hear a sound of the ring at all."

"I see. So it's another failure, huh?"

"Yes, it is so," The girl nods.

A few days later

"Okay, let's try it again, after I press this button I will touch your finger, Otonashi-san," A voice speaks.

"Yes, I'm ready!" Yuzuru responds.

"Okay then, here we go!" She presses the button then touches his finger.

"How is it, Saigusa-san?" Yuzuru asks.

"Nope, I can't feel the ring; just feel like touching your finger," The girl replies.

"I see. So it does not work after all," Yuzuru sighs.

A few days later

"Are you sure you want to try it out, Saigusa-san?" Yuzuru asks doubtfully.

"Yes, I will try it; there is nothing for us to lose," The girl says with determination.

"O-okay, fine then," Yuzuru reluctantly accepts. To be completely honest, he does not believe it would work at all.

"Then, let's begin," The girl presses the button.

"So, how is it, do you smell anything, Saigusa-san?" Yuzuru asks.

"Hmm… Oh?" She contemplates it for a while before she gives a response.

"Don't tell me it works?" Yuzuru says hopefully after seeing the girl's reaction, feels astonished.

"No, Otonashi-san, you stink. Take a bath, will you?"

"…"

"Sorry for the wait," Yuzuru says after he has finished taking a bath.

"Ah, Otonashi-san, you're back?" The girl responds.

"Yes, I'm back," Yuzuru nods.

"So are we going to do the sense of taste next?" Yuzuru asks.

Originally it was supposed to be just 3 senses, vision, hearing, and touch, however when they all did not work Haruka tried to go to the sense of smell. Of course, the result was that they gained nothing but knowing that Yuzuru stinks.

"As If! That joke is not even funny, Otonashi-san," The girl replies.

"S-sorry, I just want to lighten the atmosphere," Yuzuru apologizes. Of course he knows it is impossible to do anything with the sense of taste.

"…"

"…"

They both goes silent for a while before the girl breaks it.

"!"

"…Hmm… may be that is not such a bad idea," The girl murmurs to herself.

"Wait! Do you mean you will actually test the sense of taste," Yuzuru says, feels baffled.

"Of course it is not that, Otonashi-san! But hmm… I guess I will keep it a secret from you until I succeed," The girl says mysteriously.

"What is it? Just tell me!" Yuzuru says.

"Sorry, but please let me keep it a secret for a while~," The girl says cheerfully.

"Just tell me, will you?"

"Nope."

And in the end Yuzuru couldn't know anything more about it since the girl insists on refusing to tell him.

Several months has passed since then and still no news from the girl.

She especially requested that she used The Angel Player alone just to keep what she was doing a secret from Yuzuru.

Of course, Yuzuru was really reluctant about it; after all he was still afraid that the girl will misuse The Angel Player. But in the end, he allowed it despite his reluctant when the girl said she would cancel the project if Yuzuru didn't allow it. That showed how much he wanted to know more about the ring.

Today though, after some time, the girl comes to him.

"Otonash-san, are you free?" She asks.

"Yes, I am. What is it?" Yuzuru asks.

"I finally finished it, Otonashi-san, the new skill!" Haruka says excitedly.

"Is that so? Took you long enough eh? Usually you only took a few days to finish it, doesn't it?"

"Yes, I have to say this skill is a difficult one, took me so long to make. Although I suppose I am quite optimistic about the result."

"Oh? So you are that confident, eh? Then let's try it, this skill of yours."

"I was waiting to hear those words!" The girl smirks, seems very confident.

"Then let us go, shall we?" Yuzuru asks.

"Yes!"

"So what kind of skill did you make, Saigusa-san? Don't tell me it's a skill that strengthens your sense of taste?" Yuzuru asks.

"That's a secret until we test the skill out," The girl says mysteriously.

"*Sigh* Fine, just begin the test already," Yuzuru replies, feels a little irritated.

"Okay, Okay," Smilingly response, the girl presses the button to active the skill.

"Hmm… oh?" The girl says after looking at Yuzuru's hand for a while.

"So how is it? Don't tell me I stink again, okay?" Yuzuru asks, a little bit less hopeful than the last time she had that reaction.

"I can feel it, Otonashi-san! I can feel the ring!" The girl says excitedly.

"For real?! What did you do?!" Yuzuru also gets a little excited as he says so.

"I guess it is a time to tell you, I didn't make a skill to strengthen any of my five senses," The girl replies.

"Then what does your skill is for?" Yuzuru asks.

"It is none of the five senses. What it has strengthened is the sixth sense!" The girl reveals.

"The sixth sense?" Yuzuru repeats.

"Yes, the sixth sense. I figured that since the ring is a magical one, it is possible that a sixth sense, the extrasensory perception one would be able to notice it if it is strengthen. I did not think it would work this well though." The girl replies.

"I see! So it is the sixth sense eh that can perceive the ring!" Yuzuru says excitedly.

"Yes, it is. It was a pain to work on a skill that strengthens the abstract concept such as the sixth sense. That's why it took me a while to finish making the skill."

"Seems like we do make some progress, huh, Saigusa-san," Yuzuru says to Haruka.

"Yes, we sure have, I can feel the thing on your finger radiates some kind of power, so the plan is a success. Now then for the next step…"

And so their next step of the plan to know more about the ring begins.

They sure have made a big step forward…

"Interesting! So they did find some way to make a progress after all," A voice says in admiration.

"But still, my lord, they couldn't possibly be able to understand the truth about your ring," Another voice objects.

"Yes, I know. They are still far away from the truth. But isn't it interesting to know that they did make some kind of progress using that inferior thing to know more about my ring?" A sacred voice responds.

"Yes, I guess so, but…"

The words of the voice are cut off by the more sacred voice.

"Now then, let's see what kind of progress they will make next."

This matter is getting even more interesting for this divine being.
