The memories
Kanade thought she was prepared for anything when she decided to take the hypnosis, but it seemed to be proven wrong.
Yes, it certainly has been proving wrong when all the memories come back to her.
-o-O-o-
A lone girl was sitting on a bed in a hospital.
Although the girl didn't like it, the hospital seemed to be her dwelling place as of late.
She was reading a book as per how her usual days went when there was someone barging into the room.
"Kanade, big news! Big news, Kanade!" The person, who barged into her room, spoke.
"O-Onii-chan?" The girl spoke after she had recovered from her surprise.
"Yes, it's me, Kanade! There is good news for you!" The person grinned as he said excitedly.
"What good news, Onii-chan?" The girl asked.
She thought her elder brother was just overreacting as usual so she didn't really pay any attention to it, not until she heard her elder brother's next words.
"Donator! They have found a donator for you, Kanade!"
"!"
"Really, Onii-chan?!" The girl spoke, felt astonished.
"Yes, it's true. It's that guy, the boy who made the news in that train accident!"
"The boy who made the news in the train accident?" The girl repeated. Despite how she loved reading books, reading news wasn't a thing for her, so she didn't know about the news her elder brother was talking about.
"Yes, it's that boy who made the news with his heroism, leading the survivors and all. Before he died, he had signed his donation card to donate his organs," Her brother replied.
"There is a boy like that?" She asked.
"Yes, there is. His name was umm…" her brother paused, thinking for a while before continued, "Sorry I don't remember his name," Her brother apologized.
"I see," Kanade responded.
"And that comes my good news, seems like his heart is going to be donated to you."
"Then that means…" The girl began.
"Yes, that means you will be able to be out of the hospital soon, Kanade," The boy completed the sentence for her.
"Really?" The girl asked again.
"Absolutely," the boy replied.
It seemed like this was good news, indeed.
-o-O-o-
"Finally, I was able to get out of the hospital," The girl said to her elder brother as they both walked out of the hospital.
"Yes, luckily the surgery went on successfully." The boy agreed.
Yes, the girl took the surgery to change her heart a few days ago. Luckily nothing went wrong during the process, so now that she had got a new, strong heart, she was able to get out of the hospital after some examinations from the doctor.
She had nothing but gratitude for her donator for giving her a new life. And her life was bounded to be filled with happiness, or at least she thought so.
-o-O-o-
"Now I will introduce you to the new student. Come in, Tachibana-san."
The girl walked into the classroom, wrote her name on the green board and said, "Nice to meet you all, my name is Tachibana Kanade. Hope we all get along." The girl said in monotone.
And so the girl's high school life began.
-o-O-o-
There were some difficulties because she had a hard time expressing her emotions, but otherwise she was able to blend in well with the class.
It was because she had always been in the hospital for as long as she remembered so her communication skills were very bad.
There was also another important problem though; all the boys seemed to like her, after all she was a cold beauty.
So there was a problem of other girls envying her, but otherwise there was no problem.
And so she was able to continue her high school life happily…

Three years later
It all happened one day in the afternoon. She went out shopping for ingredients for dinner as usual when the accident happened. There was a car speeding passed the red traffic light and came straight in her direction.
She heard the sound of the car's engine very close to her, and the next moment, she did not know anything anymore.
-o-O-o-
"Welcome to the Afterlife, young one." Those were the first words the girl heard as she arrived in this place.
"Afterlife, what afterlife?" The girl asked the voice. It was another girl who was the owner of the voice.
"This is Afterlife, if you are here, that means you are already dead." The voice answered.
"Dead? I am dead? If that is so, prove it!" Kanade roared.
"Can't be help then, I guess. Then here we go," The voice sighed once before continued, "Hand sonic," The voice murmured.
The blade appeared in another girl hand, and then she used it to stab the girl in the chest.
For the girl, things went blank once again.
-o-O-o-
"!"
After a while, the girl finally awoke again.
"Oh, so you are awake?" The voice said.
"!" The girl was surprised.
"You, why are you here? You are the one who stabbed me!" The girl roared after she had recovered from her surprise.
"And where is the wound?" The voice asked.
"Of course, it is on my che-" The girl's words trailed off as she did not feel the wound when she used her hand to touch her chest.
"Where has it gone?" The girl murmured to herself.
"See? You have no proof, are you hallucinating?" The voice teasingly asked.
"Am I really?" She was quite sure she got stabbed but since there was no wound, maybe it was like the voice said, she was hallucinating.
"No, I'm just kidding, you really got stabbed by me." The voice finally confessed.
"Then where is the wound?" The girl asked.
"Like I said this is an Afterlife, so wounds automatically heal after a while," The voice answered.
"So is this really an Afterlife? Am I already dead?" The girl murmured loudly.
"Although it is hard to believe for you, but yes, you are already dead."
"…" The girl had no choice but to take the voice's words, since she was proven to be unable to die by the voice's owner.
"I'm glad you understand, and so I will say again. Welcome to the Afterlife, young one!"
-o-O-o-
"So, have you figured out what is your regret yet?" The voice asked after a few days of the girl staying here. Apparently the voice's owner name was Ayase.
"Regret? What regret?" The girl asked.
"People who come to this Afterlife all have some sort of regrets. This is what made them lingering here in this world. Therefore you should also have one. So I ask you again, what is your regret?"
"…" The girl thought about it for a while but she couldn't reach the answer.
"I don't kn-" As she was about to respond, she thought about one thing that should be her regret.
"A thank you," The girl said.
"A thank you?" The voice repeated.
"Yes, you see, I had received a heart donation in my life, but I didn't have a chance to thank the person who gave me his heart and prolonged my life at all. So if we are talking about regret, that's the only one I can think of."
"Hmm… this is tricky. It's not like we could find the person who gave you his heart here," Ayase said as she put her right hand under her mouth in a thoughtful manner.
"I see," The girl replied.
"…"
"…"
As the silence passed between them as Ayase was still lost in her thought, Kanade couldn't stand it anymore and began, "And what happens when you fulfilled the regret?"
"You will disappear or I should say "move on" from this world and be reincarnated."
"…"
Kanade was shocked at the voice's words.
-o-O-o-
It had been a few years since the girl had arrived here and a few months since Ayase had moved on. It took a while but finally Ayase thought it was the time for her to move on and pass everything to Kanade, her position as the student council president, and The Angel Player.
Apparently, Ayase's role here was to help other people with regrets moving on from this place. She couldn't just abandon her duty and move on by herself. But after Kanade had arrived and after knowing for sure that Kanade wouldn't move on anytime soon because of her hard to fulfill regret, Ayase decided to pass her duty to Kanade and move on herself. What Ayase didn't know was that Kanade was quite clumsy and wouldn't be able to fulfill her duty properly. And so it could be said that it was Ayase's mistake for the problems to come in the name of The Afterlife Battlefront.
-o-O-o-
It had been a while since the girl first met with those strange guys.
She knew they were up to something, but as long as they did not cause problems in school, she could let it pass. After all it was her duty as the student council president to oversee that no problems occur in the school.
-o-O-o-
They were developing guns! This was bad; they were increasing in number, too! Guess she had no choice but to develop new skills for The Angel Player in order to combat them.
-o-O-o-
Why would they refuse to move on? The best way for them was to move on, to be able to fulfill their regrets, wasn't it? Yet they were fighting with her in order to stay here.
'Why couldn't I convince them?' She wondered.
Little did she know, it was because of her clumsiness that they refused to listen to her. Ayase really made a mistake to let Kanade took over her duty. If that girl was still here, surely the Afterlife Battlefront would listen to her and they would be able to move on already.
-o-O-o-
Today she met another strange guy; he seemed to be the newcomer. He asked her weird question; prove to him that he is already dead. So she did the same as what Ayase had done to her back then; stabbed him in the chest. But strangely, inside his chest, there wasn't a heart.
She thought this new guy will join with the Afterlife Battlefront. One more enemy to face…
-o-O-o-
And as she thought, the guy joined the Afterlife Battlefront; he shot at her using a gun. She had no choice but to fight back. But before she could get to him, other members of the Afterlife Battlefront came to his rescue, so she could do nothing but retreat.
-o-O-o-
She found an underground tunnel. That should be the Afterlife Battlefront's doing. She had to perform her duty as the student council president and stopped them from breaking school rules.
-o-O-o-
She met with the guy again in the underground tunnel; he obstructed her when she was fighting with the leader of the Afterlife Battlefront, Yuri.
-o-O-o-
Today the girl, Masami Iwasawa had moved on. Finally she was able to find peace and moved on. The girl felt glad…
-o-O-o-
The Afterlife Battlefront decided to join the school baseball games illegally, but the girl couldn't stop them. At the very least she should make sure they didn't win the tournament…
-o-O-o-
Now it was test periods, time for her to do her studying, she can't waste her precious time thinking about the Afterlife Battlefront during the test periods.
-o-O-o-
Someone messed with her tests. All of her tests were tampered with, so the girl failed all the tests. What's more, the teachers believed that she revolted against them. So they decided to relinquish her position as the student council president.
'I'm sorry, Ayase-san…' The girl thought
-o-O-o-
To cheer herself up, the girl decided to eat her favorite Mápó dòufu. But unfortunately even that was out of her reach when her meal ticket flew from her hand during the concert of the Afterlife Battlefront.
-o-O-o-
Ayato Naoi became the new student council president in her place. He seemed to have extreme methods in his dealing with the Afterlife Battlefront. But that was not related to her, since she was no longer the student council president…
-o-O-o-
Yuzuru invited her to eat Mápó dòufu with him during the class period. The girl knew that it was against the school rules, but why not? Since She was no longer the student council president anyway…
-o-O-o-
Yuzuru and the girl were put into a detention room after they were caught by Ayato. She saw no point in resisting, so she decided to take a nap…
-o-O-o-
She was woken up by Yuzuru. Apparently he needed her help in order to save his Afterlife Battlefront friends from Ayato. She mused that they were the one who needed help at the moment. But in the end, because of Yuzuru's wisdom, they were able to get out of the detention room.
-o-O-o-
Yuzuru and the girl met Ayato who went insane. Yes, insane. He claimed he was god and what not while controlling the students by hypnotizing them. The girl had to stop him no matter what. She decided to use her Guard skills. But before the girl could do anything, Yuzuru went and punched him. After that Yuzuru comforted Ayato for his sad life and was able to reach Ayato's heart.
And so, this situation ended like that.
-o-O-o-
While the girl was tending to the garden, Yuzuru invited her to go with him to the river. There they went fishing. The girl caught a very big fish, but apparently that was the monster of the river. Everyone was almost eaten by it so the girl had no choice but to use her hidden skill "Harmonic", they were able to survive the ordeal, but afterward, the clone she summoned attacked her.
-o-O-o-
She regained her consciousness again when Yuzuru called her, asking her to use her "Harmonic" skill again. The girl replied that she understood and then used the skill. After that every single one of her clones came back inside of her. The girl felt intense pain and then she felt nothing again…
-o-O-o-
The girl was in a fight with all of those clones in her mind. But with her promise with Yuzuru the girl managed to be the one who survived in that fight. And so, she awoke…
-o-O-o-
The girl saw Yuzuru sleeping by her side using her chest to rest his head on. She stroked his head affectionately. It seemed like she had already fallen in love with this clueless little boy. 'He was such a sweet guy…' The girl thought.
-o-O-o-
After a while, Yuzuru woke up. He told the girl about how he had remembered how he died, how his donated body will definitely help someone. The girl knew at that very moment that he was the one who had given her the heart. That was why she said the following words.
"I'm sure that certain someone will always say "thank you" to you," At the very least I do. She said the last words to herself.
And then the girl proceeded to ask him whether all of his regrets were gone. He answered by saying he still had his friends from the Afterlife Battlefront to worry about. Then he continued to talk about his dream of moving on together with them.
Finally one of the Afterlife Battlefront members agreed with her...
Then he realized the reason the girl tried to make them move on. He reprimanded her for her bad communication skill. Well the girl had no choice but to agree with him there, so she replied, "I know I'm bad."
After that she asked him for his help to help the Afterlife Battlefront members moving on. And he agreed to help her making them all graduating from this place. His plan for now was to let her continue to be the enemy of the Afterlife Battlefront in order to distract Yuri.
After that the tampering of the tests were proven so the girl was able to return to her position as the student council president.
She punished the Afterlife Battlefront members who participated in the same tests as hers to write an apologize letter.
And so their plan to let the Afterlife Battlefront move on began.
-o-O-o
After doing some of Yuzuru's plan, they were finally able to succeed in making Yui moved on. As they were about to make other members move on too, a problem occurred.
-o-O-o
The shadows appeared. Yes, there were no other words to describe them but a shadow. They turned the regretted souls into NPC. And so, the most important problem now was to defeat those shadows.
-o-O-o
After some fighting they were able to stop the emerging of the shadows, and so their graduation drew near…
-o-O-o
After some preparation, finally came the day of graduation. Today would be the day they all graduated from this place. After some tear jerking events, finally there were only left the two people, the girl and Yuzuru.
-o-O-o
Yuzuru confessed his love to her and asked her to stay here with him, but she knew very well that it was impossible since she still had to express her gratitude to him –her only regret that made her still lingered in this world. But once she did that, she would disappear. But despite knowing that, she still decided to do it anyway because the gratitude she wanted to express was the most important thing for her. Yuzuru was sad knowing that she would be gone, but in the end he still agreed to her request –to tell her he loved her once again. After she heard those words, she thanked him for his love and finally thanked him for the wonderful life he had given to her. Those three years for her was an irreplaceable time.
And so she disappeared.
-o-O-o
Those are all the memories that come back to Kanade.
She stares at the floor for a while before she turns to look at Ayato.
"How is it, little miss? Do you remember anything?" The boy asks.
"Yes, I remember all of it, by the way, nice to meet you again Naoi-kun." Kanade replies
"Huh, what do you mean by that, little miss?" Ayato is puzzled why Kanade said that, but Kanade decides she will not explain anything to him.
And so this trip to find out more about the boy in her dream turns out to be successful.
Finally done!
