Once the plane landed in Afghanistan, Toni was going to walk out of the plane wearing her jeans and a t-shirt, but she was stopped by Rhodey pulling her back.
"You can't wear that." Rhodey said.
"I can wear what I want." Toni said.
Rhodey picked up a nearby hoodie and thrust it into Toni's arms. "Put this on." She said. "Leave the hood up."
"Why?" Toni asked.
"Because Afghanistan is a conservative country." Rhodey explained. "It follows Muslim law and as a visitor, so do you have to."
"Why don't you then?" Toni asked. She pulled the hoodie on over her head.
"Because I'm working." Rhodey said. "I'm a lieutenant colonel in uniform. You aren't in the Army or the Air Force or the Navy-"
"I am so in the army." Toni said.
Rhodey shook her head. "You're not. You just make the weapons. And don't forget your scarf for the presentation later."
"Yeah, whatever." Toni flipped her hood up, covering her hair, and exited the plane, followed by Rhodey. Both of them were greeted by military leaders and personnel from America and Afghanistan.
"General." Toni said, extending her hand to one of the American generals.
"Welcome, Ms Stark." He said, shaking Toni's hand. "We look forward to your weapons presentation."
"Thanks." Toni replied. "I got a feeling you're gonna like this one."
"And I'm sure we will."
"Oh. You will." Toni smirked before greeting others.
A little later on, Toni stood in front of a mountain range in the middle of a desert. She was beginning the presentation of her company-Stark Industries'-latest weapon. She was back wearing formal clothing, this time, of a long white blouse, black pants and a red headscarf loose on her head. Completing the outfit was a pair of sunglasses.
"Is it better to be feared... or respected?" Toni paused. "Well you know what I say? I say, is it too much to ask for both?" The army generals looked confusedly at her and she took a deep breath. "And with that in mind, I humbly present the crown jewel of Stark Industries' Freedom Line."
Toni gave a small, brief, smirk. "It's the first missile system to incorporate our proprietary repulsor technology. They say the best weapon is one you never have to fire, but I respectfully disagree. I prefer the weapon you only have to fire once." She raised her voice. "That's how Dad did it! That's how America does it! And it's worked out pretty well so far!"
Toni gestured with her hand to the three large missiles sitting a short distance away. "Find any excuse to let one of these off the chain, and I personally guarantee you the bad guys won't even want to come out of their caves." She made a hand gesture and the weapons booted up. One of them launched into the mountain range, breaking away into dozens of smaller missiles.
"For your consideration... the Jericho." Toni smirked as the weapons hit the mountain range and the blast wave hit her, Rhodey and the assembled military generals. The generals all looked at her in shock.
When the demonstration was over, Toni walked over to her friend. "Not bad, huh?" She asked. "Could do with a drink now though."
"And I told you, technically yesterday, Afghanistan is dry." Rhodey said.
"I know it's dry, that's why I could do with a drink." Toni said.
Rhodey sighed and shook her head. "No, Toni, dry as in they don't serve alcohol."
"Oh I was thinking more like a water or something." Toni shrugged.
"Yeah." Rhodey nodded. "That I can do. Hold on." She walked away.
Toni's phone began vibrating in her pocket. She took her phone and answered it.
"Hey, Toni." Obadiah said over a video call. It was dark on the screen, but not so dark that Toni couldn't see anything.
"Obie, what are you doing up so late?" She paused. "Or early?"
"I couldn't sleep. I just had to find out how it went. So how'd it go?" He asked.
"Looks like it's gonna be an early Christmas." Toni said, disinterested.
"It's March, Toni."
"You know what I mean. It went great. Early Easter then. Whatever. Spring break." Toni said.
"Hey! You go, girl! I'll see you tomorrow, yeah?" Obadiah was about to hang up.
"Speaking of Christmas, Obie, why aren't you wearing those pajamas I got you?" Toni asked.
"Good night, Toni." Obadiah said, annoyed.
Toni hung up as she climbed into a Humvee.
"Hey, Toni." Rhodey said as she walked to the Humvee. "Got your water here." She handed a bottle of water to Toni.
Toni took the bottle, but looked at her friend, almost in pity.
"What." Rhodey asked. She was used to her friend's shenanigans by this point.
"Oh, Rhodey, I'm sorry, this is the 'fun-vee.' The 'hum-drum-vee' is back there." Toni pointed over to the Humvee behind.
"Nice job." Rhodey shook her head.
"Yeah. I'll see you back at base." Toni smirked as the Humvee started up.
"I feel like you're driving me to a court martial." Toni said after a while of riding in the Humvee, as AC/DC's Back in Black played on the stereo. "This is crazy. What did I do?" The airmen she was sharing the Humvee with ignored her. "You know how I feel? I feel like you're going to pull over and just snuff me." She looked around at the airmen, who continued to ignore her. She sighed. "What, you're not allowed to talk? Come on here people!" She turned to the airman sitting next to her. "Hey, Forrest!" She said, half shouting.
"We can talk, miss." The soldier, Forrest avoided looking at Toni.
"Oh, I see. It's personal." She shrugged, taking another sip of her drink.
"No, you intimidate them." The driver said.
"You're a woman!" Toni lowered her water bottle. "I honestly-I couldn't have called that." She shook her head. "But that makes you and I the same, right? Women excelling in male dominated fields? You guys know what I'm talking about, right?" The airmen all smiled.
"I'm an airman, ma'am" The driver said.
"Of course you are." Toni smiled. "You know, I'm a big feminist myself. Yeah, equality for women and everything. My PA is a guy. That's how equal I believe the sexes should be."
The front seat passenger turned to face Toni. "Miss, I have a question to ask."
"Go ahead." Toni took another sip from her drink.
"Is it true you hooked up with one of last year's Maxim cover models?"
"That is an excellent question." Toni took her sunglasses off. "Short answer, yes, long answer it's kind of complicated and there was lots of passionate kissing, but short answer, yes. I totally did. Anything else?"
The airman next to Toni-Forrest-raised his hand.
"Come on." Toni shook her head. "You're kidding me with the hand up, right?"
"Is it cool if I could take a picture with you?" He asked.
"Yes." Toni nodded. "It's very cool." Forrest smiled and took a camera from his pocket and gave it to the front passenger. "All right." Toni said as she and Forrest leant in to take the picture. "I don't want to see this on your Facebook page."
"Come on. Hurry up. Just click it. Don't change any settings. Just click it." Forrest said impatiently to the airman front passenger.
An explosion blew up the vehicle in front of the Humvee and everyone shouted in shock.
"What's going on?" Toni asked, worriedly.
"Contact left!" The driver screamed. She left the Humvee, only to be promptly shot.
"Jimmy!" The passenger shouted. "Stay with Stark!"
"Stay down!" Forrest shouted as the passenger airman left the Humvee.
"Yeah. Gladly." Toni said, ducking down. She watched the airman make his way around the Humvee and get shot. She jumped back in shock.
"Son of a bitch!" Forrest shouted as he loaded up a gun.
"Wait, wait, wait! I need a gun!" Toni shouted as Forrest jumped out of the Humvee.
"Stay here!" Forrest shouted. As he turned to leave, he was immediately shot in the head. Toni panted and looked around her as bullets and missiles fly through the air.
"I gotta get out of here." She muttered to herself. She left the Humvee and scrambled away from it, watching soldiers be killed as she ran. As a missile flew behind her, Toni dove behind a rock and pulled her phone from her pocket in an attempt to make a phone call. She heard a missile whiz past her and make a small thud.
Toni noticed the missile had landed next to her. "Shit." She muttered when she saw the Stark Industries logo on the missile and attempted to get away. The missile exploded, throwing her back.
Toni caught her breath shortly after she had landed and looked around. "Shit." She muttered, seeing blood seeping through her blouse. "Shit." She ripped her blouse open to check the body armor she was wearing and ran her hand over it. "Shit." She breathed, resting her head on the sand and rocks of the desert.
A/N: Yes, Toni's bi. Not that it's important, it's just a thing.
