Asking for help again

*ring*

"Yes, I'm coming," A voice comes from inside of the house.

After a while, the door is opened.

"Oh, it's you again, little miss?" The boy, who came out of the house, asks.

"Yes, it is good to be able to see you again so soon, Ayato-kun," She tries to start a light conversation.

"It's only good for you, little miss…" The boy groans.

"?" Kanade gives him an inquiring look.

"…You are here to ask my mother for help again, aren't you?"

"!" Kanade is taken aback.

"H-how-" Kanade begins.

"How did I know? It is obvious," The boy cut her words short, "What other reason do you have to come see us? It's not like we are close or anything, you know? So it was easy to figure it out."

Kanade makes a bitter smile with her emotionless face in response to that statement.

'We were close enough in Afterlife, though I guess that doesn't mean anything in this life,' she bitterly thinks.

"W-well, a-anyway, can I see your mother?"

"…You know, little miss…" The boy groans again as he begins.

"Yes?" Kanade responds.

"My mother is no longer a psychic, so I would appreciate it if you don't bother her anymore."

"…" Kanade goes silent.

Well it's not like she doesn't understand where he is coming from, but still…

"She is the only one who can help me!" Kanade says strongly.

"…"

This time it is a turn for Ayato to be taken aback.

"…Little miss," Ayato begins again after he got over his shock.

"?" Kanade gives him an inquiring look again.

"…Don't you think what you just said is a bit shameless?"

'Well, I guess it can be seen like that,' Kanade also agrees, however…

"I'm begging you! I really am in trouble and no one else but your mother can help me!

"…" At Kanade second outburst, the boy is taken aback once again.

At that moment when the conversation seems to stop there, suddenly another person appears.

"What's wrong, Ayato? Why are you taking such a long time? Who comes?" Soon a woman who is the owner of that voice appears.

"Oh, you are…"

"Yes, today, I came to see you again, Naoi-san," Kanade says, seeing her chance.

"Oh, do you need some help again today? How about you come in first?" The woman says good-naturedly.

"Mother!" Ayato protests.

"Come on, Ayato. She came all the way here. At the very least I should hear what she has to say, shouldn't I?"

"Thank you for your understanding, Naoi-san!" Kanade bows her head in gratitude.

"No biggie, come on in!" The woman invites Kanade into her house.

Bowing her head in thanks once more, Kanade enters the house together with Ayato and his mother.

"Then I guess you won't need my help this time since your memories from past life seem to have already come back, so I will take my leave," Saying so he walks towards the door of the living room.

"Oh, by the way," The boy pauses his walk, turns around and then speaks, "Don't bother my mother too much, okay?" Saying so, he leaves the room.

After the boy went out of the room, the woman begins.

"So, what kind of help do you want this time, Tachibana-chan?" The woman asks.

"Tachibana-chan?" Kanade repeats.

"Yes, Tachibana-chan. I figure since I am around your mother's age, I should call you that. Are there any problems?"

"N-nope, t-there are none, Naoi-san." Kanade hurriedly replies. She is just a little shy.

"Okay then," The woman says that as she tightens her expression into a serious one, "You want me to help you to know more about the ring you have, right?"

"H-how-" Kanade stutters

"How did I know? It is obvious," Like mother like son, the woman also cut her words short the same way her son did.

To that, Kanade just smiles bitterly in response.

"The last time you came here, you talked about your problems with the ring and the dream you keep having. But in the end, we only helped you remembering about your past life's memories and completely forgot the matter about the ring and that dream. After you had gone, I just remembered that we didn't really help solving your problems. So I had a hunch that you would soon come back," The woman easily says.

Kanade is very impressed that the woman knows her so well. It is like she is an esper.

'Well, I guess she used to be a psychic, so that is close enough,' Kanade thinks frivolously.

"So is my assumption correct? Is that really the reason you visited me again?" The woman continues when Kanade still doesn't respond.

"A-ah, yes, that's correct, Naoi-san."

"So what exactly do you want? Or rather, what did you remember? You seemed satisfied enough when you remembered the memories of your past life that I thought at the time that I had solved your problems."

"You wouldn't believe me even if I told you," Kanade smiles bitterly, her story is quite unbelievable after all.

"Try me. I was a psychic, you know? I think I can somehow believe unbelievable stuffs no matter how absurd they are.

They both silently stare at each other for a while.

"Okay then," Finally Kanade breaks the silence and agrees.

"What I remember is…"

"Well, that's all I remembered after the hypnosis," After about 10 minutes, Kanade finally finishes relaying what she remembered to the woman.

Kanade told the woman all about Afterlife and how she and her son knew each other in that Afterlife. The woman was quite shocked during the times she was told about how her son and Kanade knew each other in Afterlife and about the existence of the Afterlife itself.

"…You are not messing with me, right?" The woman asks after contemplating for a while.

"And I said you wouldn't believe me, didn't I?" Kanade coolly replies.

"…"

"…"

They stare at each other in silence again.

After a while the woman lowers her head and sighs.

"Well, I guess I did say so, but it is just too unbelievable! Your regret soul is taken to the Afterlife after you die and gets purified there?! It sounds like something out of a fiction!"

After finishing her rant, the woman calms down for a bit.

"But all of what I said is the truth, well, according to the memories I regained anyway," Kanade also strongly replies to show her conviction and sincerity.

"I get it, I get it. I will believe you, geez," The woman finally agrees after being stared at by Kanade for a while.

Nodding once to indicate that she heard the woman, Kanade stays silent to let the woman continues to contemplate to her heart's desire.

"Anyway, so what you want is…" The woman finally begins after a long while of contemplation.

"Yes, what I want is to know why I have this ring and having that marriage ceremony dream with the boy I met and fell in love with in Afterlife in my past life and whether I can meet him again," Kanade also cut the woman words off as a payback.

"So, could you please help me?" At the end, Kanade just politely asks.

"Hmm…That sounds difficult," The woman honestly answers.

"I see, so you can't help me then?" Kanade replies, a little dejected.

"…It's not that I can't help you. But I think it would be very difficult." The woman explains.

After that, she falls into contemplation mode yet again. Kanade just watches the woman silently, waiting her to finish another of her contemplation.

"Oh, well, I guess it is interesting enough, I accept!"

"….You will really help me?" Kanade asks in surprise.

"Yes, I will. Although I had been a psychic for a really long time, I have never heard about this Afterlife before, it piques my interest. I believe I will do research on it and as extras, we may know more about the ring and that dream if I investigate this Afterlife. Of course, the chance you will be able to see that boy you met in Afterlife again is there too. I haven't done anything fun like this in a while, this is really interesting!" The woman smiles beautifully as she says the last sentence.

"Thank you very much for agreeing to help me!" Kanade bows at the woman once more.

"It's fine, really. I think I will get a good time out of this," the woman smilingly replies.

"But anyway, now I have to do research about this Afterlife, the result will come out later, so I guess we will discuss what I will have found next time. For now, you should go home and take a rest," The woman politely asks Kanade to leave. It seems she really wants to start her research as soon as possible, not that Kanade is against it.

"Okay then, I will go home for now. When should I come next time?" Kanade politely asks.

"I don't know. How about a week later? I should have some result by then," the woman suggests.

"Okay, I will come back again next week. Thank you again for agreeing to help me!" After bowing once more, Kanade leaves the house.

She surely hopes that the former psychic can help her.
