Here is another chapter…
His silence was somehow comforting and spoke for itself, it was peaceful in a way where you could feel at home and know that no matter what was happening as if he was forever there for you. But I needed answers, "Nick," he was tired, and you could see it. Megan was drugged and Sean was passed out.
He looked at me, "How long will they both be out?" my question didn't surprise him.
His tone frustrated when he finally answered, "A few hours, I never meant to get your two involved like this," his tone the way he said it, none not even an angry Sean couldn't deny he was sincere.
Attraction, huh? Well, that's easy. The attraction is a magnet. It's that thought inside your head that says "There's something about this..." You gravitate towards this extraordinary thing that has captured your attention, and the more you're exposed to it, the more you learn about it. I was attracted to Nick, "Let's get her dressed and them both in bed, after we at least need a few hours too or neither of us will be of use," we clamor from the bathroom floor and get it done, he easily holds Megan while I dress her, he placed her on the bed, and I cleaned while he took Sean too.
"Going to shower,"
"Want company?"
Scoffing but feeling the blush, "Maybe another time, but you could take a seat and make sure everything is kosher," I was not the flirty type and had a single boyfriend in my entire life, my parents and some thought I was batting for the same team. I didn't, it was no guys held my interest for long and something about Nick held it firmly in place.
Winking, "I'll come back in when you call out, but don't take all the heat since I need one too," handing me a towel, it was the only one, so I got first dibs. Nick walked out and I looked at the neat pile of clothes I placed and removed the dirty ones and just tossed them in the bin, blood and all. The chill had me all hard nipped, so I should get the shower over with. I called
NICK," I stepped into the shower, toes flinching as they touched the chilled ceramic floor. My mind was in shreds; I would never get that picture out of my mind. I turned the dial, old and metallic, releasing thousands of lukewarm drops, darkening my hair and trickled down my back. I heard him come in and move around. My eyes fell closed over and over, each time showing me the images like photographs. He was a nice creepy guy with a pet monkey, I hope they left the monkey alone and he is somehow traveling and happy. I asked, "You think they will attack tonight,"
He was fast to answer, "No, we will be okay," I could smell him the heat was making his scent more potent.
I just turned the heat up a tad, rinsing the soap from my body, the honeysuckle and cream made the room better like we didn't drug a girl who ended up biting Sean. "Done, I'll leave it running," in the far end of the small shower was I able to wrap myself in the towel, before I even stepped out I rung my long hair getting the extra water out.
I looked up seeing Nick, his body was leaned against the sink, his jeans hung unbuttoned around his hips. His tee was on the small table, his socks and boots must be in the room, I moved. "All yours," my body was revolting, wanting to press itself against the hard-muscled body but my head was telling me we have known him two days, a great two days up until today.
His voice was unexpected. It was low, with an agreeable trace of huskiness and with a hint of more power than expected. "Thanks,"
I know that I need to dry off and dress, "Can you hand me the soap, on the sink. I brought my own, but your shampoo smells good, can I?" his damn smile flashes as he poked his head out. "Here," handing him my shampoo and conditioner and his soap.
I noticed his jeans on the chair, but I looked away and dressed, jeans and a cropped Metallica tee nothing fancy was needed, socks are on after I lotioned my body. I was brushing my teeth when I heard him, "Oh you stayed this time, can you hand me the towel, please,"
I offered it, "Yeah, feel better right now not being alone,"
"I'm here no worries," he smiled vanishing back into the now turned off shower, but he emerged with the towel wrapped around his waist. I just kept my eyes on the foggy mirror while I brushed my teeth, only the normal sounds of a person dressing are heard until he is next to me, a red toothbrush in hand, I spit and rinsed my mouth with water. My eyes flickered to the window but he hauled me from the room, Megan and Sean looked to be holding hands "Come on, sorry we have to share a bed," it was rather small but I was so bone-tired, and not being alone was all that mattered to me now.
Just as the first bite of cold wind creeps under my night-shirt Nick's hand moves around my middle, warm and soft. In seconds his body is molded to my own, sharing his body heat as easily as he shares his winks and smiles. I could never let another close to me like this, but he's so different. A thin blanket comes over us, "I set my alarm on my cell, it should only wake me up," his tone was like sweet and low.
I pulled my Chapstick out, a soothing sensation when it was on after the day I had. He continued, "Can I borrow some, ya know before we sleep," I semi-turned handing him the small black and white tube, but he pushed my hand away and slide his hand up my neck until it was warm against my neck and cheek.
I didn't want to stop it, he could have all my Chapstick, his face moved towards mine until our lips met. His kiss is not at all the same as those movie stars, but one steeped in a passion that ignites. It is the promise of realness, of the primal desire that lives in us all. And with it, he tells me that he is awake, connected within, that he embraces himself rather than hide as a copy of those romantic idols. "I'm not leaving, go to sleep,"
Again, my mind was lit up, but now my body followed suit wanting more, more of him. To me, falling asleep was like being drugged, my body dragged me into that shadowy world of dreams in less than a minute from my head hitting the pillow. But if I was awoken in the night, I'd never get back to sleep. I was fighting it, savoring his arms, this was not me, but I wanted it to be me.
I asked, "They're not human are they, Nick?"
He let his fingers trail down my arm, "No, what you think you know about Vampires is bullshit. We can deal with this when Sean is up," he didn't want to have to say anything twice.
One final question, "You're not fully human are you,"
"No, some bitch at a party about a year ago," his body tensed up the moment I asked, that was all I needed to know. He was not a monster, so I turned in his strong arms, placing my hand on his furry face. I was not as bold as he was, some I just brushed my lips against his whispering, "Goodnight," before resting my head into his chest, for a first I fell asleep not only with a guy but smiling.
I wake as if it's an emergency as if sleeping had become a dangerous thing. My heart beats fast and there is a buzzing in my brain and together they are as panic with jump-leads. He is at my side as my eyes snapped open. "Hey, everything is okay, Noelle," gentle tones his hands rubbing my arms. New white rays shine through the window and curtain just the same, showing the beauty of the many tan hues that weave together. I asked, "Sean and Megan?"
"Going to wake soon," my eyes on them, both sprawled out wrapped in the other. "Do people bond with those they bite," he cocked his head.
"Yes, in some form," They made such a cute couple, he needed a girl.
Sean was up, his body pale and clammy. "Sean just listens to him," I cut in.
"I am going to lay some heavy shit on you, my dude. I know you normally wouldn't believe me, but I can show you,"
His eyes are on me when he speaks, I can feel them even through the dark tint of his aviator glasses. I feel the need to talk, "Sean, I trust Nick. I saw those people we helped kill the innkeeper last night something is happening," Sean, his face was more concerned now.
He answered, "If you can't prove it, I am leaving you and taking Noelle and Megan," of course he takes Megan, the sun was up when we left Megan knocked out, she would be fine. I had been the only open she spoke to since we took her, I had more questions for Nick.
The old rust bucket was right there still, but the village idiot was on a sleeping bag passed out. "SSH," Nick whispered with his gun out, a Barretta if I knew my guns. Sean was holding his side his skin was still dripping sweat and pale. I wrapped my arms around him helping him, Nick was looking around before picking up a dirty shovel. "Hey buddy," he jostled the guy until he woke up, but with force, he slammed the shovel to the side of his head.
"What the fuck man," Nick just snapped. "SSHHH," I was silently watching him steal the keys before he popped the back trunk. "Open it,"
I moved with Sean as he did it, but nothing was there other than a disgusting brown tarp. Sean groaned, "Nothing man, nothing but a tarp," Nick looked dumbfounded when the girl with dirty curly hair sprung from underneath the tarp, his hands out, Sean shoves me to the side with all the force he could muster.
She was trying to bite him, I jumped on her back pulling her off, she was far too strong but we went tumbling to the side as Sean yelled. But Nick, he removed her tossing her to the side like trash. "Bitch," whacking her twice with the shovel.
Kind of like in the movies her body reacted to sunlight until she exploded, I was tucked behind Nick, his arm around me keeping me back. I asked, "The guy he is still human?"
"Barely, he is their daily day driver,"
I thought of one thing, "Kill him, buy us enough time. Sean, we take shifts driving we need distance between us," Nick smiled down at me as Sean looked grim but didn't go against it, he made fast work of it.
I jumped in back with Megan as she slept, Nick kissed my head making Sean give us both a look. "Later, drive,"
I checked her pulse, threaded.
I asked, "Nick, you were bitten how have you been able to not turn?"
Sean looked at him waiting for him to talk, his past hunted him by the way his face fell. "About twelve months ago I was at this party, and this girl wants to hook up and Noelle I was in a bad place mentally. Well, she bit me and left me; I was sick as shit for two days finally I went to the hospital. It was my lucky day; a nurse had also been bitten and was able to give me the drugs to slow the virus but not long. Months to years but not long, I have been searching for the girl, she said I had to kill the original Forsaken who bit her, that it would cure all who he had bitten," I was shocked, and Sean asked the next question.
"The Forsaken?"
He launched into their tale, the Forsaken are a group of knights who made a pact with the fallen angel Abaddon to live forever. Two of the Forsaken are located in the United States, Sean asked again, "You're giving Megan the drugs,"
"No, I am keeping her hopped up on morphine. Sorry, Sean, this is survival of the fittest and she is like a beacon for them, I need them to follow me," he sounded cold but I held my hand out.
Stating in a pleading tone, "Nick, pills, please. We will not be god today, Sean and Megan need the meds too. We will help but you can't be cold like them, because that's not who you're. They are following us since Nevada," he gave me a look taking off his sunglasses, I used charm. Moving close to him or as close as the seats allowed, placing my shaking hand on his face. "Please," I pulled the big guns out, my eyes.
Sputtering, "Fine, was giving Sean some but Megan can have them too. You little Satan," handing me four pills, Sean has his as he took them. "Thanks, man," it worried me Nick had so many and if he ran out he turns and snack on us.
Sean smiled, "Stay away from Noelle,"
Nick smirked back, "No,"
"Fine, but whatever happened don't hurt her. She is my family, my best friend," I heard whispered low as I held Megan's head, my legs wrapped around her chest and arms, locking my ankles together.
I woke her, her poor head was swimming, but she was thrashing. "Megan, I am still here and want to help, you need to calm down. You will bring him to us, you don't want that do you," she was coming too, shaking her head sputtering, "NOOO,"
"I am going to give you medication that will help, okay. Swallow," she just looked at me with her icy blue eyes, trusting me to do right by her. One pill, water, two pills, water, three pills, water, last pill, and water. "How long until she is normal,"
"Not long, Noelle," he was right after an hour, she and Sean looked better.
Smiling, "Hello Megan, I am Noelle. This is my cousin Sean and our friend Nick," she was still pale, I offered her the snacks and she ate, poor thing must have not eaten in days.
Sean touched her hand, as Nick drove his foot down, "I dreamed of you," her eyes locked on Sean. "Same," he gave me a look. In that look it asked to switch seats so I winked crawling into the passenger seat while he got in back, both just whispering.
"Thank you, Nick. I owe you,"
His grin was evil, "I am going to collect," I bet he would too.
