Cool Kid Saves the Cats

Chapter 11: Derek the Savage: Part 2

"How….how is this….how did you….But I thought…."

"Please, just relax. I know you have a lot of questions for me, and I'm ready to answer all of them. Just take a seat next to me, for now, let's watch the show." Says Derek Savage, with a sweet tone in his voice.

Cool Kid, without responding, slowly walks over and sits next to him in the box seat. He hadn't been paying attention to the show that was being displayed since he was so taken attack by everything, but now that he has a chance to look at the show, he's completely perplexed. There is a giant floating ball of water in the middle of the stadium. Within that ball, are several human/dolphin hybrids. They all swim around in a hypnotic pattern around each other. Each time one of them sticks their dolphin head out of the water, they sing a chord of their song, which all combines together into a beautiful melody.

"Isn't it beautiful?" Derek says with a somber smile. "I'm so happy to see art like this thriving."

"Uh...I guess it's nice...but...what is it? When did this even...:"

"A lot has changed over the past two years, young Kid. More than you can fathom."

"You...You knew about that? But h-"

"Please, let me speak Cool Kid, I have much to say." He looks off silently for a moment into the majestic ball of water, listening to the tranquil hymns. He breathes in, then looks back at Cool Kid. "The world has changed Cool Kid. You must already know about how some….certain individuals claimed the government last year right? Well, without Cool Cat to stop them, and with you unable to fight, they took more and more. They went from controlling the local government to the Federal Government. Then, once they conquered the highest power in the world, they couldn't be stopped. They went for the EU, then the UN, then Australia. Soon, they controlled it all. They control the world."

Cool Kid sits back in his seat a little. He looks into the water, watching one dolphin human go around in circles. His hands grip his arm chairs tighter.

"They control everything now Cool Kid….they control so much, they were able to change the world's very culture in but a year. These kinda shows...are thanks to their power. We are under their complete and total control." He looks into the water again. For a moment, Cool Kid could see a single tear form in his eye, but it dried up before it left his eyelid. "Because of their power….it's impossible to fight them now. They are….invincible."

Cool Kid's eyes glare into the ripples of his skin. "Invincible? What do you mean? I killed one like an hour ago. And what the hell are you even talking about? Wheres Cool Cat? How did you manage to escape from them? I remember seeing you in that video two years ago, you were captured with Cool Cat and your wife! If you escaped then they must have escaped too! Where are the-"

"STOP! JUST STOP!" Derek yells. The entire stadium goes quiet. The dolphin people look at him in silence. Derek looks towards the ground then bursts into tears. "I….I…..I never escaped….I didn't escape I…."

"Wait...didn't escape? Then how did you get here? You must have busted out somwh-"

I pleaded with them okay….:"

"What?"

"I reached an agreement with them! They let me go! Okay! Okay… It took so long for you to come….you were our only hope… and I just…."

"Did you...Are you saying you left Cool Cat there….with those thugs?"

He looks back up at Cool Kid, with tears pouring from his eyes. "I'm sorry Cool Kid...You don't know anything about Cool Cat….I hoped you would learn and be….be f-...No, it doesn't matter. Look, I left them behind to save my own skin. It was the only….no, that's a lie...I could have done so much more." He stands up quickly.

"Wh- what are you doing?"

"Please….don't follow me…"

"But wait! I...I came all the way here for you! Please!"

"No! I am of no use to you!"

"But...there must be something you can teach me!"

Derek turns around. "I...I could….but it wouldn't….be cool." He starts sobbing and runs out of the stadium. Cool Kid clenches his fists and chases after him. Once they both leave the stadium, the show resumes once again. Everything is at peace, now that the noises of the harsh reality are silenced.
