The Invincible Spider-Man
Chapter 12: Homecoming
"Stromm, is the Globulin Green ready?" Asked Norman, hesitantly. Him and fellow scientist Mendel Stromm were in the Oscorp lab in The Bronx, perfecting the Globulin Green formula.
"Norman, I still feel this is dangerous. What happened last time-"
"Won't happen again. Trust me, Mendel." Said Norman.
"In that case, the formula will be perfected by tonight. Will you be here?" Asked Mendel.
"I have to drive my son to that Homecoming of his tonight, but I'll be here." Said Norman. "Ready to see my greatest creation come to fruition." Said Norman.
Fisk sat in his tower, planning his attack on Owlsley and The Hand. After The Frightful Four was arrested, he had no protection. Luckily, he had a contingency plan in place in case if Spider-Man and Daredevil interfered in his plans.
He called one of his men.
"Are they in place?"
"Yes boss. All 12 of them."
"Perfect. Tonight, we end this war." Said Fisk.
All of a sudden, cops kicked down Fisk's door and approached Fisk with handcuffs, led by Captain Stacy.
"Wilson Fisk, you're under arrest. We have damning evidence linking you to the acts of The Frightful Four, and the breakout at Ryker's." Said George, as the cops slapped the handcuffs on him and escorted him out.
"Captain. You're making a big mistake."
"We'll see about that." Replied George, holding the pen drive which Spider-Man had given him last night, which had all of the evidence needed to put The Kingpin away.
When Fisk was taken away and the cops left, Spider-Man came swinging in to meet George, who had stayed back.
"Well, that's The Kingpin taken away. Now for The Owl." Said Spider-Man.
"I'm hoping Daredevil is on it." Said George.
"We are. Only problem is, he runs an army of ninjas."
"You can deal with it, right?"
"Of course. But for now, it's time I take a break." Said Spider-Man, as he flipped out of the window and swung away."
Peter went home to meet Aunt May
"Peter! Ready for tonight? I've got your tux ready." Said May.
"Thanks May. I'll be at Gwen's by 7."
Aunt May asked Peter to sit on the couch.
"You just remind me so much of Ben. How enthusiastic he was on our first date, the beautiful tux he wore to prom, and just how hopeful he was. I miss Ben." Sighed May, her eyes welling up.
"I know, I miss him too. But, he wouldn't want us to think about what happened in the past. He would want us to live life as it is, enjoying every aspect of it, all while remembering how he made us so happy." Reassured Peter.
"Thanks Peter. You really are the brightest part of my life. Oh, by the way, I found a girl for Harry!" Said Aunt May.
"You did? Who?" Asked Peter, inquisitively.
"One of my friends, Anna, has a niece. Mary Jane Watson."
"Oh my god, you set him up with that girl you've wanted me to meet for the past 3 months?" Laughed Peter.
"I figured since you're going with Gwen, might as well help Harry for a bit." Chuckled May.
"Okay, I'll see you later!" Said Peter, as he headed up to his room.
Peter headed to his room and quickly called Matt.
"Matt, what's up?"
"Just heard that Kingpin got arrested. Nice work."
"Thanks, but The Owl is still out there. Work is still undone." Said Peter.
"You have your special night today. Take a day off."
"Thanks Matt." Said Peter, as he cut the call.
The night had finally come. Homecoming was in an hour, and Peter had to go to Gwen's. Her dad would be dropping them off at school, where Harry and Mary Jane would be waiting.
"You ready?" Asked May, as she drove Peter to Gwen's house.
"As ready as I ever will be, I guess." Said Peter, as he got out of the car and approached Gwen's door. Her house was significantly bigger and nicer than his. With trembling fingers, Peter rang the bell, as Captain Stacy opened the door.
"Peter! Great to see you again. Very smart tux!" Remarked George. Gwen appeared behind him, wearing a beautiful blue dress.
"Hey Pete!" She said.
"Hey. You look really nice." Said Peter, who was at a loss for words.
George invited him in, as Gwen's mother, Helen greeted him.
"Peter! You've grown a lot since I last saw you, and muscular too!" She said.
Peter smiled shyly, as Gwen chuckled and blushed.
That's when George got a call.
"Captain Stacy here. He's being moved now? Oh okay, I'll be there in 15 minutes." Said George, over the phone.
"Kids, we should leave for Homecoming now, I just got a call from the precinct."
"What's wrong?" Asked Peter, sounding curious, but not too curious.
"Well, if you must know, The Kingpin of Crime: Wilson Fisk, is being moved to Ryker's right now."
"Oh. Okay." Replied Peter, a little confused as to why he would be moved so early, when he was just arrested earlier that day.
That's when Peter realized: Fisk owned half of the corrupt police in the force.
Peter was ready to tell Captain Stacy, but George and Gwen were already at the car. Peter quickly texted Matt the issue, and joined Gwen and George.
"So Peter, what do you like to do when you're free at home?" Asked George.
"Oh, I uh… love reading! Yeah, especially those novels by Nikola Tesla." Replied Peter, who couldn't tell him that he spent his time fighting crime.
"That's great! I can see why Gwen is so fond of you!" Laughed George.
"Dad!" Protested Gwen, before joining in on the laughter himself.
Peter checked his phone and saw that Matt hadn't responded back.
"Well, here we are kids! Have a great time." Said George.
"Mr Stacy, wait. I…uh…need to tell you something." Said Peter.
"Okay…Gwen, why don't you join Harry and the others!" Said George.
"Okay, but make it quick, Peter!" Said Gwen, as she entered the school.
Now it was only Peter and George in the car.
"So, what was it you wanted to talk about?" Asked George.
"You said The Kingpin was being moved early right? But what if he's bribed those cops, and they're driving him elsewhere?" Suggested Peter.
"Oh my god. Wait, how do you know so much about this?" Asked George.
Peter hesitated. "Because I'm Spider-Man." Said Peter, shaking nervously.
George's eyes widened. "Oh."
"Well, I don't know how I feel about my daughter dating Spider-Man." Chuckled George.
"You're not gonna arrest me or anything? Or like, ban me from seeing Gwen ever again?" Asked Peter, confused.
"Kid, you've been through a lot, even before you wore the mask. As Spider-Man, you've nearly died so many times. You have put your life on the line so many times to help others. Any other person would have quit the first time they got beat up. But you somehow take those punches, and hit harder. That just proves to me, that you're not just doing this for fame and attention, you're doing this because you truly care about this city. Now you tell me, how can I arrest a person like that?" Asked George.
Peter smiled. "Thank you, Captain Stacy." He said, as he walked out of the car, and George drove to the convoy that was carrying Fisk.
Peter walked into the gymnasium, and saw Harry, Gwen, Flash, Hobie and Liz, along with another beautiful red haired girl.
"Oh Peter! This is Mary Jane Watson." Said Harry, introducing Peter to the red haired girl.
"Call me MJ." She said to Peter.
The group kept talking about what a great couple Peter and Gwen make, but something was bugging Peter. Something in the back of his neck.
That's when he got a call from Matt.
"Daredevil?" Asked Peter.
"Spider-Man. Hello there." Said Fisk.
"Fisk?! What have you done with Daredevil?" Asked Peter.
"He's fine, and so is Captain Stacy. If you want them alive though, I need you to do me one favour. Don't interfere in my business tonight."
"I will stop you."
"And in the process, Daredevil and Stacy will die painful, excruciating deaths. I can assure you that much." Said Fisk. "Look the other way, just this once." He said, and he cut the call.
Peter put his phone in his pocket, as he stared around him. The music seemed to dim out, and he could hear his heart beating. He saw his friends all dancing together. He saw Gwen, and wondered how she'd feel if he ditched her. This was the night he had been waiting for the past 15 years. The aura was magical, and he was tempted to stay.
The music came back. He was back in the party, with voices all around him, seemingly trying to distract him from the situation he was in, tempting him to stay with his friends.
Then he remembered what happened the last time he ignored his responsibilities. What happened to Uncle Ben. What happened the last time he looked away.
Peter clenched his fists.
"I'll never look the other way again." He said, as he rushed out of the door of the gymnasium, leaving his friends, and most importantly, leaving Gwen.
Fisk stared out of his window in Fisk Tower. "This is the day." Said Fisk.
Daredevil and Captain Stacy were tied up to chairs in the office.
"Stacy. You seriously thought you could arrest me? Even if you had the evidence, you didn't even think for once that I was prepared? Pathetic?" Mocked Fisk.
"When Spider-Man gets here, he's gonna kick your sorry ass." Said Daredevil.
"And look at you! The dreaded Devil of Hell's Kitchen, tied up to a chair. I could take off your mask right now, but I just don't care enough." Said Fisk.
All of a sudden, the door was kicked down, as The Owl stood in the doorway.
"Owlsley. Where are your ninjas?" Taunted Fisk.
"I don't need anyone else to kill you." Said Owl, as he extended three talons from each hand,.
"Very well." Said Fisk, as he rushed at The Owl.
Both started throwing punches randomly at each other, hoping to hit the other, until Fisk grabbed Owl, and slammed him into the wall.
Owl stabbed Fisk in the back, but that barely had any effect on Fisk, as he slammed Owl down onto the table, completely destroying it.
That's when Leland stabbed Fisk in the stomach, and his leg.
"AAAAGHHH!" Yelled Fisk, as Leland repeatedly stabbed him. However, Fisk grabbed three Owl's fingers, including the talons, and snapped them back!
Leland yelled in pain, as Fisk grabbed him, and threw him out of the window, down to the streets below.
"NEW YORK IS MINE!" Shouted Fisk, as he turned from the window.
"I don't think so, Stay-Puft!" Shouted a voice, as Spider-Man came in crashing through the window with Owl's unconscious body, and kicked Fisk in the face.
Behind Peter, another person jumped in. Elektra.
"Matt! I remember everything now." She said, as she freed both him and Stacy.
"You do?" Asked Matt, surprised.
"I went to The Chaste, they helped me remember that The Hand had killed me." Explained Elektra.
Matt smiled. All of a sudden, Leland started laughing.
"What's so funny?" Asked Peter, who was fighting Fisk.
"You were wondering where all of my men were Fisk? Well…" Replied Owl.
All of a sudden, an explosion rocked the tower, and then George noticed something.
"Guys!" He yelled.
On the street, about 70 Hand ninjas were rushing through, attacking anyone they could see.
"Matt, Elektra. Deal with The Hand ninjas. Captain Stacy, evacuate other streets and get every cop on the scene! I'll deal with Michelin Man here!" Said Peter.
Daredevil and Elektra nodded as they jumped out of the building, carrying Captain Stacy, as they rappelled down carefully.
"I gave you a choice. You should have taken it!" Shouted Fisk as he lunged at Spider-Man ad slammed him to the ground, pummelling his face in.
"And you still haven't taken that breath mint!" Retorted Spider-Man, as he web-kicked Fisk out of the doorway, and into the hall. When Spider-Man started to deliver a flurry of kicks and punches to Fisk, he grabbed Spider-Man's leg and threw him across the length of the hall. Them, Fisk choked him and threw him down the emergency stairs.
"This city is mine!" Shouted Fisk, as he punched Spider-Man again and kicked him down further. But, this time, Spider-Man slid under Fisk's legs with a web, then he pulled the web, causing Fisk to trip and then tumble down the stairs. Spider-Man then tried to swing kick him, but Fisk grabbed him and threw him off of the stairs. Luckily, Spider-Man landed three floors down.
He stumbled into the hallway of that floor, as Fisk bust through as well and brought his boot down on Spider-Man's back.
Meanwhile, Daredevil and Elektra were trying their best to fight the horde of ninjas, but they seemed to be endless, and Captain Stacy quickly drove to his precinct.
George rushed inside the precinct to tell his cops, only to see five of his most trustworthy cop aiming their guns at him, with other cops being held hostage.
"Sorry Captain, Kingpin's orders." Said one of the cops, smirking.
"ALL OF YOUR ALLIES ARE GOING TO DIE! I'VE RUN THIS CITY FOR SO LONG! I AM THE KINGPIN! WHAT ARE YOU?" Shouted Fisk at the top of his lungs, his boot pressed on Spider-Man's back.
Peter clenched his fists.
"I am Spider-Man." He said, as he got up and webbed Fisk's face up. Then he pushed his boot off of him and pulled him down.
"AAAGH!" Yelled Fisk.
Spider-Man quickly webbed up Fisk temporarily. "I'll be back soon, stay put!" Said Spider-Man, as he jumped out of the building and swung towards the police precinct.
George was still being held at gunpoint, until Spider-Man came swinging in and kicked one corrupt cop in the face, before disarming the other four.
"You okay?" Asked Spider-Man.
"You look worse than me, where's Fisk?" Asked Stacy.
"I webbed him up. I'll go back for him later. Right now, you need to bring all your cops out to evacuate the city blocks where Hand ninjas are." Said Peter, as he swung back on the street to assist Daredevil and Elektra. He swing kicked a few and then punched out a couple.
"You guys got this?" Asked Peter.
"We got this, Spider-Man. Go!" Exclaimed Elektra, as Peter swung away back to Fisk Tower.
Fisk had returned to his office on the top floor to get a gun. Hence, when Spider-Man returned, Fisk shot him in the leg.
"AAAAGHHHH!" Yelled Spider-Man in the pain, as Fisk headbutted him, cracking his left eye lenses. Fisk brutally tore off pieces of Spider-Man's mask, but Peter kicked him away with his good leg.
"You little shit!" Shouted Fisk, but Peter webbed up his face and kicked him down, knocking him out.
Peter rushed to the huge window to look down at the street, and saw cops helping Daredevil and Elektra fight the ninjas, as the army dissipated.
That's when Fisk tried to kick Spider-Man out of the window, however, thanks to Spider-Sense, Spider-Man dodged and Fisk fell out of the window.
Luckily, Spider-Man caught him just in time, and held him high above the streets from his white collar, as a helicopter shined a spotlight on them.
"It's over Fisk. New York will never be under your control." Said Spider-Man, as he threw Fisk back inside the office, next to Owl's unconscious body. "You lost, Kingpin." He said.
But Fisk, started to laugh. "Spider-Man. I always have contingencies! I planted twelve bombs across New York. Anytime now, they're gonna go off!" Laughed Fisk.
Just as he said that, an explosion rocked the city, and then another, and many more! As policemen rushed into the office to arrest an unconscious Owl and a laughing Kingpin, Spider-Man swung to the top of Fisk Tower. Only to see smoke billowing from a few parts of the cities, most notably The Brooklyn Bridge, The Oscorp Lab in The Bronx, Times Square, and a section of Queens.
"Oh god, one blew up in Queens. AUNT MAY!" Shouted Peter.
