The Invincible Spider-Man
Chapter 15: The Birth of Electro
Max was quickly rushed into the hospital, with Curt alongside him.
"Is he gonna be okay?" Asked Connors, worriedly.
"We honesty do not know. He seems to be in a comatose state, but we can't be sure." Said the doctor. All of a sudden, when the doctor took out a pair of clamps, a spark of electricity from his body repelled it away.
"Strange. We'll take him to the Isolation Ward for now." Said the doctor, as he and a few other medical staff hurriedly wheeled him away, leaving Curt in the waiting room.
Curt sat down and buried his face in his left arm. "My life's work, may have just harmed a person terribly. Oh, what have I done!" He lamented to himself. That's when Peter burst through the hospital door.
"Doctor Connors, is Max okay?" Asked Peter, frantically.
"We have no idea. Our experiment on limb regeneration and cross-species genetics. It was all for nothing." Sighed Curt, staring at his missing right arm in disappointment.
Peter sat down next to Curt and put his arm on his back. "Don't worry doc, I'm sure Max will be okay. And then, we could try some new way for the project." Reassured Peter, as Curt smiled weakly.
Mendel waited in his lab for Otto Octavius to show up. He wasn't even sure if Otto would come. All he knew was that he needed Otto's help to stay stable, as he wasn't sure for how much longer the bionic body would sustain his life, as it was just a prototype.
Otto finally entered through the door of the secret lab, only to see Mendel on the ground, convulsing in pain.
"Mendel! Oh my god, what happened to you? Why are you wearing the bionic suit?" Asked Otto, thoroughly confused, as he helped Mendel sit back on a chair.
"I was severely injured during the terrorist attack on New York. This suit is the only thing keeping me from dying, but I don't know for how long. Please Otto! I need your help." Groaned Mendel.
"But…but how? This was just a prototype that we built, when I used to work at Oscorp." Blurted Otto, still confused.
"After you left the project, me and Norman had started working on a new version of this Bionic suit. We had used your idea to…attach external implants using neural interfaces…" Continued Mendel.
"You continued my idea of the Superior Neural Interface without me? And now what do you expect me to do?" Asked Otto, little angry, but also a little sympathetic for Mendel.
"Me and Norman worked in this lab to build the interface, but we could never get it to work like you did. Otto, I need you to design me a life suit, by building a Superior Neural Interface and a power source for my body. Please!" Pleaded Mendel.
Otto hesitated, but then nodded his head. "But, all the resources are at Oscorp, and I doubt Norman would even let me show my face there after I left." Explained Otto.
"All the resources you need are here. But you have to work quick, please." Replied Mendel, in a strained voice.
"Hey Gwen, yeah I'm at the hospital. No, don't worry! I'm okay, one of my friends at Dr Connors' lab, Max Dillon, is in a coma." Explained Peter to Gwen, over the phone.
"Okay. And by the way, my dad wants to talk to you. Hold on." Said Gwen, as she handed the phone to George.
"Peter, it's George. I just wanted to ask if you were doing okay." Said George.
"I'm fine, Captain. Just worried about Max. Anything new happening in the city?" Asked Peter.
"No, but the city could use Spider-Man. How long are you gonna be there at the hospital?" Asked George.
"Maybe a couple of hours more." Said Peter.
"Okay. Take care, Peter." Said George, as he cut the call.
Peter sighed as he stared at Max's comatose body through the window in the room. Curt had already left as his family was worried sick about him. If only he was there, his Spider-Sense could've warned him, and this never would've happened. Then again, he couldn't ditch Gwen for a second time.
All of a sudden, the lights started to short out in the hospital, and Peter's Spider-Sense went nuts.
Everyone in the hallways was confused, as the lights flickered on and off, but Peter noticed that the lights in Max's room were shining as bright as the sun on the hottest summer day. That's when his Spider-Sense went wild, and Max's eyes opened, glowing a bright yellow, as all of the light bulbs broke with a crash, and the lights went off in that's section of the hospital.
Max felt weak and heavy, but at the same time, he couldn't feel the ground as he stood up, probably because his feet weren't touching the ground, and were levitating about 2 centimetres off of the floor. He could see around him, but for some reason, his head vibrated as he looked at different electrical objects. He touched the handle of his hospital door, which was made of metal, and made a spark as he turned the handle.
Max stepped out of his room, only to see people stare at him and run away. He looked at his body, and everything he seemed normal, except, his hands were glowing a bright yellow, along with sparks of electricity. He put out his arm, and all of a sudden, he felt electricity surge through his arm, and a bolt shot out from his palm.
"What the hell is going on?" Asked Max, both intrigued and terrified.
That's when Spider-Man appeared, swinging in through a window. "Max Dillon? What happened to the burns on your body?"
"Burns? What burns? Look, you have to help me!" Shouted Max, as he put his hands up. As soon as he did that, however, electricity shot out from his hands and to the ceiling.
Spider-Man realized that Max was draining the electricity from the hospital, and whatever problem he was having, they had to solve it somewhere else.
"Okay, Max. Listen to me carefully. Something is happening to you and it's affecting other patients in-"
"Something? What something!? Spider-Man, help-"
Before Max could finish, another bolt shot out from his arm, hitting Spider-Man, and knocking him across the length of the hall.
"Oh my god, I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to!" Reasoned Max.
Spider-Man coughed as he got back up. "It's okay, it's okay. Now listen, we need to get out of the hospital. Just follow me, and we'll get out of here, away from all these people." Negotiated Spider-Man. Max still looked normal, except his arms were shooting out electricity, and his burns were gone.
"So thirsty…somehow I know that…the electricity can quench the thirst…" Said Max, as he pulled out a couple of cables from a wall with a ton of force, and stuck them in his chest.
"Max, no!" Shouted Spider-Man, but Max had already started draining the electricity out. Spider-Man realized that Max was standing right in front of a window."
"Oh, for god's sake! Max, I'm really, really sorry about this!" Shouted Spider-Man, as he grabbed Max and jumped through the window, swinging away, as the lights in the hospital came back on.
They landed on a street, as Max looked surprised and angry.
"Okay Max, now calm down." Said Spider-Man, as the street lights started to flicker now. Electricity started to surge in his hands.
"I…can't help it! I have to release it! AAAAGHHH!" Shouted Max, as he shot out a huge bolt of electricity. However, to make sure he doesn't hit Spider-Man again, he managed to painfully shoot the bolt at a nearby restaurant, causing it to go up in flames.
"Oh shit!" Shouted Spider-Man, as people started to run out of there. Spider-Man quickly swung in to save a family stuck in the back, as the cooks left through the backdoor.
"I'm sorry! I didn't want to!" Pleaded Max, as everyone ran away, and cops showed up. Spider-Man swung back to Max, only to see cops aiming their guns at him.
"Hey, hey! Aim your guns away, he's just confused. Okay, Max. We need to do something, without hurting you." Said Spider-Man.
"I don't want anybody shooting me. Tell them to not be scared of me, I don't want to hurt them!" Shouted Max.
"Okay. Everyone! Max is a good guy, and he doesn't wanna harm anyone. So please, give him a chance!" Shouted Spider-Man.
Max seemed to calm down, but all of sudden, the feeling came again.
"Spider-Man! It's happening again…AAAAAAAGHHH!" Shouted Max, as another bolt shot out of Max's palms, and they were aimed straight at Spider-Man, who was sent back flying into a car.
The cops were terrified as Max turned towards them, and they shot at him.
Max thought he was going to die, but the bullets had no effect on him.
"Why won't you UNDERSTAND!" Shouted Max in anger, as he shot out a huge bolt of electricity, knocking the cops and the cars away.
Spider-Man swung in again and this time, he webbed up Max. "Max, listen! You have to control it." Said Spider-Man.
"They don't understand. They NEVER UNDERSTAND!" Shouted Max, as he let out a huge pulsating wave of electricity, breaking through the webbing, and shorting out everything electrical in the area, including Spider-Man's web shooters.
"Max please, I'm trying to help you!" Pleaded Spider-Man.
"Only one person can help me. And he's not here!" Exclaimed Max, as he started to hover in the air using electricity from his hands, and managed to fly away, leaving Spider-Man grounded on the street, his web shooters malfunctioning.
"#Electro" was trending on social media as Peter returned home, exhausted from the events that had happened that night.
"They're calling him "Electro." Sheesh, you'd think people can come up with better names." Thought Peter to himself, as he entered his house, only to see Aunt May unconscious on the floor.
"May? May!" Shouted Peter, as he quickly ran to her side, trying to wake her up.
"Ben? Oh, just 5 more minutes, then we can take Peter fishing…" She mumbled, as if she was dreaming about Uncle Ben.
May opened her eyes, only to see a worried Peter staring at him.
"Peter? Oh, what happened to me?" She asked, as she hobbled to a chair.
"I came home and you were unconscious on the floor, mumbling about Uncle Ben." Explained Peter. "Aunt May, are you okay?" Asked Peter.
May sighed. "Doctors say it's a side-effect of the trauma endured during the terrorist attack. This will all be over soon though, I promise." Reassured May. "So, how'd your date with Gwen go?" Asked May, trying to change the subject.
"I will tell you all about it…tomorrow. Because you need to rest. It's like 11 pm." Joked Peter.
"All right. Promise me you won't spare me any detail." Joked May.
"I promise." Laughed Peter.
"Okay, it's done." Said Otto, holding up a metallic, band like object. "You and Norman almost had it done, so it didn't take much time." Said Otto, as he handed the band to Mendel Stromm, who was fixing up his Jet Boots.
Mendel quickly tied the metallic band around his neck, and it got infused with the armor.
"It also acts as a power supply for the Bionic Suit you were already wearing. So, it should keep you alive." Explained Otto.
"Thank you, Otto. Now, I assume you have some schoolwork to go do." Said Mendel.
"I still have one question. My old research about the neural interface. Is it still at Oscorp?" Asked Otto.
"Yes. In the Archives. Why?" Asked Mendel, curiously.
Otto shrugged. "It's nice knowing that Norman still holds on to projects he knows he can't complete." Otto said, as he walked out of the door.
Mendel smiled through his scarred face as he activated the Jet Boots, ready to go pay a visit to Norman Osborn.
Hey everyone! Thank you for reading this chapter. I have plans for Mendel Stromm and Norman Osborn, as well as some set up for Otto Octavius. Also, Electro's story isn't complete yet, and neither is Curt Connors'. Stay tuned for future chapters, and reviews are greatly appreciated!
