The Invincible Spider-Man

Chapter 16: The Birth of Electro- Part 2

Mendel managed to haphazardly fly through the air, to Norman Osborn's penthouse. He almost ran into at least ten buildings, but he was able to reach his destination.

Norman was sitting in his office, as usual, when he was able to hear a drone outside his huge window. He quickly turned around, only to see Mendel Stromm in the new and improved bionic suit, courtesy of Otto Octavius. He managed to break through the window, and landed in front of Norman.

"Mendel? Oh my god, you're alive!" Said Norman, surprised.

Mendel's left side of his face was burnt, and a part of his left arm's bone was protruding through his hand. His left leg's muscle and sinews were visible, but most of it was mechanized. The scarred part of his face was half covered by the metal.

"What on God's Green Earth happened to you?" Asked Norman, part horrified, part intrigued.

"The suit Otto had come up with that you and I could never figure out. It's the only thing keeping me alive, but I need your help Norman. A way to keep me alive without this suit." Said Mendel.

"Okay. Go on, what do you have in mind?" Asked Norman, incorrigibly curious.

"You know genetics better than anyone." Stated Mendel

"Yeah. So?" Asked Norman.

"Imagine this. The genome of anything, or anyone who can heal rapidly. A strong healing factor! And I think we both know a person who has demonstrated this feat." Suggested Mendel.

"No. You can't be suggesting that!" Countered Norman.

"Spider-Man. I need his DNA. If we can merge his DNA with mine, I'll live." Said Mendel.

"You can't be serious! Do you have any idea how unfathomably dangerous the risks are! It could leave you worse!" Countered Norman.

"Come on, Norman. You can't do this. Please, it's better than this! Do you know how much pain I'm in right now, every breath hurts like hell!" Pleaded Mendel.

Norman thought for a second and hesitated. "Okay. I'll see what I can do." Said Norman.

"Thank you, Norman! I'll come back later." Said Mendel, as he hovered out of the window.

Norman sighed heavily and went back to his work.

It had been about 24 hours since "Electro" had been on the loose, and Peter was starting to get worried that Max was doing something dangerous.

Spider-Man swung up to the top of a huge building. It was 2 am.

"Great. Max, where are you?" Thought Peter. He always felt at peace when he was so high in the city. It seemed to clear his mind and make him think better.

That's when Peter realized something.

"What if Max returned back to the lab? I need to head there now!" He said out loud, as he swan dived off of the building and shot a web at another, before gracefully doing a backflip in mid-air and propelling himself forward, as he swung to Dr Connors' lab.

The lab was still partially destroyed. All of their research was in tatters, as Spider-Man swung in through a shattered window in the laboratory. The huge machine was still in the middle, half destroyed.

"Shit. Doesn't look like he's here. Where could he be?" Thought Spider-Man. All of a sudden, Peter heard a crackle of electricity, and saw Max standing behind him in yesterday's clothes. He seemed normal enough, except that Peter could see Max's veins glowing yellow, and there was an ever so slight hint of pure electricity in his eyes.

"Max Dillon? Are you okay?" Asked Spider-Man, cautiously.

"I came here to find Dr Connors. I don't want to hurt you, but I need energy. That machine still has a ton of residual electricity that I can drain. I need that." Said Max, his voice booming.

"Max, that could be potentially dangerous."

"Dammit! Don't you understand, I need it! Now move, Spider-Man." Demanded Max. He seemed to be a lot more confident since they last met, and a whole lot more threatening.

Spider-Man clenched his fists and stood his ground. "No. I can't let you do this, Max."

Max snickered. "Haven't you heard? I'm Electro." Said Max, as he shot a bolt of electricity straight at Spider-Man, whose Spider-Sense was too slow to dodge.

Spider-Man was sent flying into the wall. "Max, no!" He groaned, but it was too late.

Electro put both arms on the machine, and started to absorb the energy. "AAAAGGHHHH!" He yelled. Spider-Man got behind him and shot two webs at his back. But Max, whose face was glowing yellow with electricity, grabbed the webs, and electrified them. Luckily, Spider-Man had a very quick reaction time, and he let go of the webs before they could electrify him and fry his web shooters.

Electro had absorbed all the energy, and his eyes were crackling with lightning. "Stay out of my way, Spider-Man. While I have a word with the doctor." Said Electro, grinning, as he zoomed past Spider-Man.

"Hey! Don't leave without saying goodbye!" Shouted Spider-Man, as he started to chase after him.

Electro was flying really quickly, and Spider-Man was going to lose him sooner or later. Spider-Man shot a web, which stuck to Electro's boot. Now Spider-Man was being dragged at breakneck speed by Electro, almost running into signs and buildings.

"Max, come on! Someone would think you're trying to kill me!" Joked Spider-Man.

"I'm not trying to kill you, but don't push me!" Said Electro, as he swerved to the left, slamming Spider-Man straight into a room in a building. Two civilians were eating dinner.

"Sorry for interrupting- WHOOAAAA!" Before Spider-Man could apologize to the confused people, he was dragged through the inside of the building, and finally through the brick exterior.

Spider-Man was dazed as this time, Electro tried to ram him into a sign, but Spider-Man managed to dodge it. They were flying super close to the streets. Peter shot two more webs at Electro's legs. Now holding onto both of the webs with both arms, Spider-Man's feet started to skid on the street, as Peter tried to stop him.

"Max, come on! Give up!" Shouted Spider-Man, as Electro was draining his energy by trying to go faster and lose Spider-Man. Spider-Man dug his feet into the ground and tried to stop Electro from flying away, trying to pull him down. Just then, Electro had an idea.

Electro stopped resisting and quickly stopped speeding away. Due to the quick force of him suddenly stopping in mid-air, Peter was flung ahead with his momentum, headfirst into a moving truck.

"Dammit! I'm all out of energy. Forget Connors, I need more power, and I know exactly where to get more!" Exclaimed Max, as he started to fly towards the city's power grid.

Spider-Man finally came to his senses, and realized where Electro was going. "Max, wait!" Shouted Spider-Man, as he swung after him.

Electro reached the Manhattan Power Grid, and instantly flew to the centre. He shot out a bolt of electricity at one tall tower to his left, and another tower to his right. He started to absorb the power of all of Manhattan's electricity, as The Financial District and Chinatown were plunged into a blackout.

"AAAAAGHHHHHAHAHAHA YEAHHHHHH!" Shouted Electro, as his electricity changed from yellow to blue. His eyes started to glow blue and his entire body crackled with blue lightning.

By the time Peter reached the power grid, The Upper East and Upper West Sides were plunged into darkness, as Electro absorbed all of the energy.

Spider-Man shot two webs at the electric towers from which Max was absorbing energy. He managed to slingshot himself towards Electro, as he kicked him in the jaw with super strength and speed. Electro flew to the ground, as the blackouts ended.

"It's over, Electro." Said Spider-Man, panting.

"I absorbed all of the energy I need. You're nothing now." Mocked Electro, as he zoomed towards Spider-Man at what seemed like lightspeed, knocking him away. His yellow electricity was now glowing a brilliant blue.

"Oh mann…" Groaned Peter. Electro flew towards him, and punched him down, before starting to electrocute him.

"AAAAGAHHHHHHHH!" Shouted Spider-Man, as his costume started to tear, and Electro grabbed him by the neck and flew up, before flying back down and smashing Spider-Man into the ground. Spider-Man shot two webs at Electro's face, as he kicked him away and swung around one electric tower, and kicked Electro in the back.

"Max please! The city needs this electricity!" Said Spider-Man.

"I'm Electro! And I want the power!" He shouted, blasting Spider-Man with the mother of all electric bolts, and sending him flying into a transformer.

Peter's Spider-Sense kicked in, and Spider-Man jumped aside at the last zeptosecond, and he felt the electric bolt zoom past him as he dodged it. But Electro had taken in too much power, and he shot multiple bolts at a time, zapping Spider-Man. Electro then grabbed Spider-Man and zoomed through the grid, slamming him into different towers in the grid, before throwing him back to the ground.

"Stay out of my way now." Panted Electro, as Spider-Man lay motionless, completely exhausted. He heard Electro's laboured breathing, as if he was tired too. "Max listen, what's happening to you isn't your fault. But you're hurting others. Please…" Peter groaned, trying to get up.

Just then, Electro seemed to have a sudden realization. "Do you know whose fault this truly is? That Parker kid! If he was there when we were testing the machine, he would've noticed the fault!" Shouted Electro, as he started to fly away, towards Peter Parker's house.

Peter realized that Aunt May was still at home, and now she was in danger. "Electro, stop!" Shouted Spider-Man at the top of his lungs. He zipped up to the top of the highest electric tower and shot multiple webs at Electro, trying to stop him from moving.

"Let go of me, bug!" Yelled Electro, but Peter was determined. He knew that Electro would use up most of his energy to escape, thereby making him weak. Electro started to slow down, as Peter shot more webs and pulled him towards him, and threw him to the ground.

Electro fell from the tower and landed on the ground with a thud. Spider-Man quickly jumped down to see if he was okay.

However, Electro still had some power in him, and he tried to zap some more electricity out. But, the electricity generated from his palms was like a spark compared to the bolts he was blasting before.

Electro groaned as he tried to crawl away. "I need it…the energy…the power…it feels so good…" He said, his voice still echoing with the huge amount of energy he had absorbed, as Spider-Man webbed him up.

"I'm sorry Max. It didn't have to be this way." Sighed Spider-Man, as Electro fell unconscious.

Norman watched the news that night. About how Spider-Man defeated the new super-criminal known as Electro. Norman was still feeling the effects of Globulin Green, but he had gotten used to them. What he was worried about, however, was Mendel Stromm wanting Spider-Man's DNA.

"Mendel is unstable. God knows what he'll do to me if I don't help him." Thought Norman, but that's when he realized: The Globulin Green was meant to make people strong too.

Norman grabbed a whiskey glass, and held it in his right palm. He was able to crush the glass with ease, and the glass didn't even make a single cut in his skin. Norman smirked.

The Globulin Green experiment was finally a success. He quickly rushed to his laptop and opened up an old folder related to GR-30, aka Globulin Green and opened the files, which the Oscorp Board Members had told him to discard a long time ago.

The old files included some old combat armor, as well as a prototype glider. Norman quickly copied them to a pen drive. But when he turned around, Mendel Stromm was standing right behind him.

"It all makes sense now. You inhaled the gaseous Globulin Green, didn't you, Norman? And that combat suit, it has self-healing capabilities, doesn't it?" Asked Mendel, angrily.

"Mendel, it's not what you think." Protested Norman.

"You already have the means to save my life hidden somewhere in Oscorp, and yet you won't use it?" Asked Mendel, balling both of his mechanical fists.

Norman put on a fake chuckle. "Mendel, you've got it all wrong! I was going to give you this armour to save you, that's why I opened these files. Besides, if I did have GR-30 in my system, I'd be dead by now." He explained.

Mendel seemed to calm down after that. "I want that combat armour within the next week, or there will be blood. And I'm not talking about mine." Threatened Mendel, as he flew out of the window, having more control over his flying.

Norman was angry, and in his anger he punched the wall next to him, creating a huge dent.

"I need to get rid of Mendel, but I don't want to get my hands dirty." Thought Norman. That's when he looked at his enormous television, and at the news of Spider-Man.

A sinister idea popped into his head.

"If I can convince Spider-Man that Mendel Stromm is a threat, I can write him out of the equation, and the armour will be mine."
