The Invincible Spider-Man

Chapter 25: Welcome Back, Peter

The sun was shining bright in New York City. The melody of birds in Central Park could be heard early in the morning.

And that melody was interrupted by the sound of a bank alarm.

"Hey! Stop that guy, he just robbed a bank!" Shouted the guard, as a guy wearing a green and yellow bodysuit ran out of the bank and towards Central Park.

As the figure kept running down the path in Central Park, a person jumped in front of him.

"Come on, Basilisk! I thought I put you in jail last week?" Joked Spider-Man.

"Dammit, not you again!" Groaned Basilisk, as he ran the other way.

"Hey, it's rude to leave without saying goodbye!" Shouted Spider-Man, as he swung after Basilisk.

Basilisk was running at an inhuman speed, and he jumped in one of the ponds in the Park. Except he didn't start drowning. His webbed boots allowed him to run across the water.

"Neat trick, but that's not gonna stop me!" Said Spider-Man, as he swung high above the trees, and shot a web at Basilisk's back and pulled, knocking Basilisk off balance, as he fell into the water.

"Hey! I can't swim!" Yelled Basilisk.

"Relax, the cops are already here. See ya!" Shouted Spider-Man, swinging away.

"Now I need to get to school. Here we go again…" Thought Spider-Man, as he swung to Midtown High.

Peter quickly changed and entered school. The hallways were bustling, especially since it was the final year of school at Midtown. Peter made it past the crowd to his locker, where he met Liz, Hobie and Flash.

"Hey guys!" Said Peter.

"Pete, hey! Great to see you." Said Flash, giving him a pat on the back.

"Wassup, Pete? Hey, where's Harry?" Asked Hobie.

"He should be here. Probably running late." Said Peter.

"Gwen isn't here either. Let's hope she comes soon." Smiled Liz.

Peter's smile faded. He remembered what happened 4 months ago, when Norman Osborn tried to kill Gwen Stacy, and ended up murdering her father, George. Peter still felt guilty for what had happened.

"Hey guys." Said a voice. Peter turned around and saw his best friend, Harry Osborn with Mary Jane Watson.

"Harry! It's so great to see you!" Exclaimed Peter, going and giving Harry a tight hug.

"Great to see you too, Pete. Missed you guys way too much." Said Harry. Peter hugged MJ too.

"How's it going, Tiger?" She asked.

"Pretty good. I'm just hoping Gwen comes soon." Said Peter.

"Yeah, I hope she's okay." Replied MJ.

While everyone was catching up, Peter was busy thinking about something else.

"The last time I fought Basilisk, he wasn't so fast. And I'm pretty sure he can't come up with tech that allows him to run on water. So where did he get that technology from?" Thought Peter.

That's when he noticed someone familiar. A girl with blonde hair, a triangular face and probably the most gorgeous girl in all of Midtown High.

"Gwen!" Exclaimed Peter, as he rushed to her, and hugged her tight.

"Peter! I missed you so much." Said Gwen.

"Are you okay?" Asked Harry.

"Yeah, more or less." She said.

There was an awkward silence.

"Well, guess what? I'm throwing a party at my place in two days, and all of you are invited!" Exclaimed Flash, trying to break the ice as everyone made their way to their respective classes.

"Hey Pete, listen. I sorta need to talk to you." Said Flash, pulling Peter aside.

"What's up?" Asked Peter.

"It's um…about my dad. I still haven't talked to him, like you said." Confessed Flash.

"Look, Flash. If you don't talk to him, then things between both of you won't ever change. Like it or not, this is the only way." Advised Peter.

"Right. I'll try talking to him today. Thanks Pete." Said Flash, as he walked to football practice.

Throughout the first period, Peter would keep glancing at Gwen. He kept wondering if she was alright, and as a result he completely missed Doctor Octavius' lecture.

"Peter? Peter?" Asked Otto, snapping Peter out of his cerebral reverie.

"Yes, Dr Octavius?" Asked Peter.

"Can you tell us what part of the brain controls our motor functions?" Asked Otto.

"Oh, the Basal Ganglia. It also affects our personality and emotions and is made up of Basal Nuclei." Replied Peter.

"Very good." Otto remarked. "See me after class today." Said Otto.

After class was over and recess began, Peter walked to Dr Octavius' office.

"You wanted to see me, doctor?" Asked Peter.

"Yes. A while ago, I told you that I used to work for Oscorp right?" Asked Otto.

"Yeah, I had come to ask you about Mendel Stromm that day." Replied Peter.

"Yes. Well, following Norman Osborn's arrest, most of Oscorp's assets were given away. Few were kept back, by the new owner…oh what's his name?" Said Otto.

"Smythe! Spencer Smythe recently bought Oscorp." Replied Peter.

"Ah, yes! So, as I was saying, most of their assets were given back to the respected creators, including Project OCK." Explained Otto.

"Project OCK? What's that?" Asked Peter, curious.

"It's a project I was working on when I worked at Oscorp. Norman and Mendel never finished it. But now that I'm getting it back, I was hoping you could help me finish it?" Asked Otto.

"Oh yeah, sure! It'd be my pleasure." Said Peter.

"Perfect! I'll let you know when I get it." Said Otto, as Peter left the room.

As Peter was leaving, he noticed Gwen getting in her car.

"Gwen, hey!" Said Peter, as he walked up to her. As soon as he reached her, he didn't know what to say that hadn't already been said.

"Hey Peter, what's up?" Asked Gwen.

"I was wondering if you want to come to Central Park with me. Like, day after?" Asked Peter.

"Sure! And from there we can head to Flash's party." Suggested Gwen.

"Oh yeah, sure! Bye Gwen." Said Peter, waving after her as her car drove away.

Flash had to walk home that day, since his excuse of a father had probably passed out on the couch drinking beer.

He opened the creaking door and walked into the living room. And his dad was right there, wearing a tight shirt, with a pack of beer next to him.

"Hey dad, we need to talk." Said Flash.

"Huh…oh yeah, what is it?" Asked his father, Alex, in his gruff voice with the stench of alcohol leaving his mouth like a heavy breeze.

"I'm…not going to quit football." Said Flash, sternly.

Alex sighed. "Kid, how many times have we talked about this? The odds of you becoming a footballer like that Ronaldo or Messi guy are slim to none." He said, bluntly.

"It's better than being a drunk who barely makes minimum wage…" Muttered Flash, under his breath.

Alex's ears perked up. "What'd you say to me?" Asked Alex.

"N-Nothing." Trembled Flash.

"SAY IT TO MY FACE, KID!" Shouted Alex, throwing an empty bottle of Corona across the room.

"I SAID IT'S BETTER THAN BEING SOME NOBODY WHO DRINKS BEER LIKE IT'S WATER!" Shouted Flash. Alex was stunned.

"Go-Go to your room, Eugene." Said Alex in a softer, whisper like tone.

"That's all you've got to say?" Asked Flash, in an equally soft tone.

"Eugene…go to your room." Said a very stern Alex. Flash nodded and walked back to his room.

Elsewhere, at around 2 am in the middle of the night, a man was sitting in a dark office of the Tricorp building. A man walked into the office.

"Sir, we have acquired the assets from Oscorp that we need." Said the man.

"Very good, Mac. Now all we need is a person who can wear the armour." Said the man sitting at the desk.

"I may have an idea." Said Mac, as he showed a picture to the man, who got up from the desk and examined the picture.

"Alex O'Hern. Construction worker. Are you sure about this?" Asked the man, with his booming voice.

"Absolutely. He's a nobody." Said Mac, with affirmation in his voice.

The man stepped out of the shadows, revealing a huge man, who was as pale as alabaster. His teeth were more or less fangs.

"Very well. Go find him and convince him to partake in the "experiment."" Said the man.

"Yes, Tombstone." Said Mac.

Hey guys, I'm back! I hope all of you are excited to read Season 3 of "The Invincible Spider-Man." This season has got a lot of twists and turns. One way to describe it would be to take whatever was amazing from the first and second season, and mashing them together. This season, titled "Armed and Dangerous", will have Peter face off against much tougher foes. I hope you all stay tuned for the season!

Things have gotten better where I live, but school still hasn't started and we still have it all online. But things seem to be going back to normal slowly. I just miss going out with friends lol.

Side note: I have started a new series in the Marvel category known as "Doctor Strange: Mystic Master" which takes place in the same universe as The Invincible Spider-Man, so be sure to check that out too!

JPrime: I'm glad I was able to. Killing Gwen off right now would've been a huge mistake. Thanks for reading!

Guest: I think killing Gwen off so early in Spider-Man's career would be a really big missed opportunity, because there is still so much more you can do for the character as well as her relationship with Peter. And yeah, I took some inspiration from Spectacular Spider-Man, particularly Midtown High and some villain origins like Electro and The Vulture. I'm happy you're so excited for Season 3!

Shawna1999: I've planned everything up till Season 5, and I'm happy you're so excited for the future! I really do love writing, but it's more of a hobby that I work on in my free time because I truly love science, particularly Biochemistry. Guess that's why I relate to Peter so much. Plus, I've been obsessed with comics since I was 9, so like for the past 6 years, so writing stories on them is like a dream come true.

redbird12: Thank you! I really wanted the final fight to be special, where the reader can feel every hit delivered. And yes, I did take inspiration from Along Came a Spider-Man Vol 2 and the Raimi trilogy, because the final fight with Green Goblin in the original Spider-Man movie was honestly amazing and it really showcased Norman's power against Spider-Man. Also, I wanted to make Captain Stacy's death a little comic accurate, though he was originally killed by falling rubble during Spider-Man's fight with Doctor Octopus, I had him say nearly the exact lines that George says to Peter in the comic. I've also been reading your story (The Extraordinary Spider-Man), and I really love it!

Yours Truly,

Shadow Strike.
