The Invincible Spider-Man

Chapter 28: A Strange Encounter- Part 1

Spider-Man swung back to his house, holding the syringe with Rhino's blood.

"Oh man, I need to see how Flash is holding up. First Harry's dad, now Flash's? What is it with my friends' fathers being super-criminals." Lamented Peter, as he landed on a roof and called up Flash.

"Dammit, he's not picking up." Sighed Spider-Man. "I'll analyse this blood at the school lab tomorrow."

As Peter stood up and got ready to shoot another web, his Spider-Sense lightly tingled. He looked below the roof he was standing on and he noticed something unusual. There was a house there, with a weird circular window. Spider-Man would swing past that house all the time, except this time there was some weird, purple fog billowing from the back.

"Wonder what that's about? Could be Mysterio again, I should check it out." Thought Peter, as he swung down to the building. He always felt like something strange happened in there, but this time he wanted to investigate.

The fog smelled a little like brimstone, and it was incredibly heavy, not rising more than a couple meters off of the ground. The back door was slightly open.

"Huh…creepy." Said Spider-Man under his breath, as he approached the back door and opened it. Inside, was a huge hall which smelled like oak wood. There was a huge, wide staircase in the middle, and the fog was coming from the second floor. Around Peter were different, exhibit like closets made of glass, that had different artifacts in them.

"What is all this stuff? Mask of The Black Knight, Hood of Khonshu? What weird cultist house am I in?" Thought Peter, as he continued looking around at the weird artifacts. "Holy Harry Potter." Muttered Peter.

All of a sudden, he heard a small boom coming from upstairs, and the fog stopped billowing. The boom startled Peter and he accidentally shot a web.

"Oh crap!" He said, as two people rushed down the stairs. One of them was bald and wore a brown tunic, while the other wore a light blue tunic with a red cape and a weird green necklace. He had a beard and his hair had white streaks on either side.

"Who are you? Where's Nightmare?!" Shouted the red and blue guy, as he shot two orange bolts towards Peter, who dodged them with a backflip and spin respectively.

"Hey whoa, Magic Johnson! Who the hell are you?" Asked Spider-Man, shooting a web on the man's face. All of a sudden, the bald one in the brown tunic jumped in.

"Stephen, stop! He's on our side." He said.

"Well that depends! Now, what séance are you guys doing here?" Asked Spider-Man.

"He's the Spider-Boy. The person I told you about." Explained the man, to Stephen.

Peter was about to interject that he was a man, not a boy, when all of a sudden, the red and blue guy started floating towards him. "So, Nightmare didn't send you?" He asked, raising an eyebrow.

"What, no! I just saw some purple fog and decided to investigate. What exactly are you guys doing here?" Asked Peter. His Spider-Sense was not tingling much.

"My name is Doctor Stephen Strange and this is my associate, Wong. We both are part of a secret society of sorcerers that are tasked with keeping the Multiverse safe." Explained Stephen.

"Whoa wait, hold up. "Sorcerers?" "Multiverse?" Ha, nice try Mysterio but you're not fooling me this time!" Said Spider-Man.

"It's true. We have been trying to stop an interdimensional threat from taking over the Multiverse." Said Wong.

Peter took a step back. "Okay, I don't know what you guys were smoking up there, and truth be told, I don't wanna know. So I'm just gonna head out…" Said Peter, turning around and walking out.

Just as Spider-Man walked out, a black wraith appeared out of nowhere, knocking Peter back. Then, three more of them appeared.

"AHH! What the hell?!" Shouted Spider-Man in fear.

"That's Nightmare's wraiths. Wong, shields!" Shouted Strange.

Wong chanted something, and an invisible shield formed around the Sanctum.

"Okay kid! We need your help now." Said Stephen.

"What, me?! How can I help?" Asked Peter, frantically.

"You see that artifact there? That jar?" Asked Strange, pointing to a bronze capsule that was in a glass closet way across the room.

"Yeah, why?" Asked Spider-Man.

"I need you to bring it here! We can trap the Wraiths!" Said Strange, as he formed some weird orange bands to attack the wraiths.

"Got it!" Said Spider-Man, as he ran to get it. However, one wraith knocked him back into a closet as it started hovering over him. Spider-Man backflipped away.

"Uhh… Expecto Patronum?" Asked Spider-Man, as the wraith shot out black magic from his body that Spider-Man dodged with a side flip. He then shot a web at the Wraith, but the web went through him.

"Oh goddammit!" Said Peter, as he ran towards the jar, flipping and dodging the attacks by the wraiths, until he reached the closet, smashing the glass and snatching the jar.

"Strange! Catch!" Shouted Spider-Man, as he threw the jar towards Stephen and Wong. Stephen grabbed it and opened it, chanting out a spell. The 4 wraiths got sucked in.

Peter was out of breath. "What…the heck…was that!" He yelled.

"Those were wraiths that Nightmare sent. Now do you believe us?" Asked Strange.

"Wait… who is this Nightmare?" Asked Peter. "And what the heck is going on?!"

Strange sighed. "The Multiverse is real, long story short. Now, this entity called Nightmare has kidnapped Clea, the woman I love. He wants to take over the Multiverse and shroud it in darkness." Explained Strange.

"Hold on…a Multiverse? No way! That means that there is some Earth where…Oh my god, I could be like some huge CEO like Tony Stark! I could have Parker Industries!" Said Peter, ecstatically.

"Yeah, but that would all go if Nightmare wins. Now if you'll excuse us…" Said Strange, gesturing towards the door.

"No, hey wait! I wanna help!" Protested Peter.

"No offense, but you seemed quite reluctant to fight wraiths and now you want to take on a Multiversal threat?" Asked Strange.

"Yeah, but…The Multiverse!" Countered Peter.

"We're gonna need all the help we can get. Jericho is still recovering and Daniel is poisoned. If Spider-Man thinks he's up to it, then let him help." Suggested Wong.

Strange hesitated, then nodded. "Okay, follow us." Said Stephen. Spider-Man followed Stephen and Wong up the huge stairs and to the library in the attic.

"Okay, Spider-Man. This is extremely dangerous. We need to head to the Nightmare Dimension to get a spellbook. That spellbook contains the key to defeating Nightmare. But the Nightmare Dimension does things to your mind. More than 2 hours in there and you will lose yourself." Explained Strange.

"Okay, all right. Let's do this." Said Spider-Man. All of a sudden, an orange portal opened up and a man in a blue and purple tunic walked in. He was holding a wooden staff and had white streaks in his long black hair.

"Who's this?" Asked the man.

"Jericho, meet Spider-Man. Spider-Man, this is Jericho Drumm. Nightmare has poisoned his brother, Daniel." Said Wong.

"It's good to meet you…" Said Spider-Man, shaking Jericho's hand.

"Call me Doctor Voodoo. And call him Doctor Strange." Said Jericho, pointing at Stephen, who rolled his eyes.

"Wong and I will hold down the fort here on Earth in case Nightmare attacks. You and Spider-Man get the spellbook." Said Jericho. Strange nodded as he chanted a spell, opening a black and green portal.

"Let's go." Said Strange, as him and Peter jumped in.

Both of them were now in a barren black and green wasteland. The sky was a thick blanket of dark green, and the air was heavy. In front of them was a mountain as tall as ten Empire State Buildings, and as black as space. On top of it was a castle, black and green.

"Oh wow…that's huge." Said Peter.

"We need to get in that castle, get the book and save Clea." Said Strange.

"Gotta say… I thought fighting oversized Rhinos would be the weirdest part of my day." Said Spider-Man, as Strange opened up another portal to take them to the top of the mountain. The castle was huge and evil was radiating from it.

"Here we go." Said Spider-Man as him and Strange entered the castle.
