Another day in the host club approached and it was as noisy as ever. Of course this time it wasn't because of the guests, but rather the hosts themselves.
They were moving around in a bustling manner, throwing fabric left and right. It seemed that the King was directing which cosplay would be appropriate for there newly found Arabian Nights theme, and with the guest arriving soon time was of the essence.
Rennette strolled into the doors, late as usual and flopped her bag onto the sofa when Tamaki rushed over to her in an excited fashion. "Rennette! You're finally here, and about time too. I picked out the most dazzling outfit for you to wear!"
Tamaki ran away and came back with a heavily jeweled outfit that looked oddly similar to the one he was wearing himself. It almost looked like something for royalty. "And look,We match!"
She looked at him with utter disgust and started to walk away from him while crossing her arms. "You must have a death wish if you think you can get me in that."
The King fell at her words and threw the costume aside while pouting. "But Rennette, don't you wanna match?"
Slowly turning around she shook her head at his question. "I want anything but that."
Rennette felt the twins presence around her each of her shoulders as they laughed at the King's pain. "Come on Rennette. Cut the boss some slack."
She grimished at their words and rolled her eyes before crossing her arms once more. "Sorry Souh. It isn't going to happen."
His shoulder fell once more only to have him cross his own arms in return. "You know, you really aren't feminine at all."
Ticking her eyebrow in irritation she stepped forward which caused the twins to hold her back. His words seemed to anger her and it felt like she was almost on fire because of it. "Souhhh. I'm gonna make you eat those words."
He squeaked in terror when suddenly the door began to open and almost at once everything stopped as the members got into place, with Rennette standing on the end of course. "Welcome to the Ouran Host Club!"
They were certainly surprised when what entered the space wasn't a hoard of girls, but rather a small school aged boy.
The club blinked a few times to see if what they were seeing was actually real when Tamaki reached his hand out in a Kingly manner. "What's wrong little boy?" Did you come to my palace in search of something?"
Obviously still in his cosplay roll, the boy stuttering while speaking and tried to form a sentence. " A-Are you the king of this place?"
At the word "king" Rennette groaned loudly and muttered. "Oh boy, here we go."
Almost as expected, Tamaki leaped off of his throne with a thousand sparkles around him. It was a rare occasion for someone to call him king. "Ahh yes! The king! I am the king of the Ouran Host Club! Long live the host king!"
The boy, unaffected by his words closed his eyes and introduced himself. "I am an elementary 5th year, Shiro Takaoji. I want the Host Club king to take me on as an apprentice!"
Everyone looked extremely confused at Shiro's request expect Rennette who nobody saw gave a face of what looked like fear. Then before the host club could notice she gave out a sarcastic laugh. "Pffft. An apprentice, an apprentice in what? Being a spastic dork?"
The rest of the club was too shocked to be able to give a response.
A short time later the host club was in full swing as ladies filled the space with loud noise and usual routines.
Rennette sighed on her usual spot on the sofa, a book covering half her face in boredom from the light.
One of the girls could be heard over all the rest in particular. "Oh my Tamaki, you have an apprentice? How exciting"
The King smiled at put his arms around the girl in question, bringing her close to him. "Yes, he is still in elementary school but I like the fire in his eyes. Of course it's nothing in comparison to the fire in eyes, my mermaid princess."
The girl blushed intently until Shiro popped up from nowhere and and scoffed. "Mermaid Princess? You look more like the carp that swim in my pond. As if I would ever give out false compliments like that."
Her face broke into a million pieces in utter hesteratics as Tamaki tried to backtrack. "You don't look like a carp at all, and even if you were then you would be the most beautiful carp of them all."
This did not ease the girl anymore as she gasped and slapped Tamaki square in the face before running away. "So I am a carp?! Tamaki you're an idiot!"
He turned a tried to call out to her but unfortunately she was already gone.
Suddenly he heard a whistle and he turned to find Rennette starting a him in interest. She still had her book in one hand as she leaned down. "Wow, you are really off your game today, well that's saying you actually had game in the first place."
Tamaki grumbled in response and crossed his arms. Of course he wasn't "off his game" it was that elementary school boy that chased all his customers away. "It's not my fault!"
Shiro crossed his arms around his chest and smirked at what he had done.
Tamaki looked around at his lack of guests and sighed loudly, suddenly it did seem a bit lonely. That is, until he felt the pressure of the sofa give in a little.
Looking up he and the rest of the guests gasped when they saw Rennette sitting next to the king, reading her book with a bored expression. This was certainly new.
Hikaru and Kaoru gazed at her and felt both a light airy feeling, but also a small pit in there stomach.
Tamaki blinked a few times before carefully asking. "Rennette, w-what are you..?Wha-What are you scheming?"
Her hand froze on a page before looking up for a second and putting her finger to her lips and shushing him. "Shh Souh I'm on a good part."
In utter shock at that reaction the King scanned her face for any sign that she was joking or pulling a prank but found nothing. Could it be that she realized he was lonely without any customers?
But as soon the the thought appeared it wiped anyway. There was no way, Rennette wasn't that type of person. She was probably just bored.
The twins decided to break the awkward atmosphere by laughing slightly and strolling up to the sofa, leaving their guests behind. Something about the way everyone was staring at Renette bothered them, Hikaru especially. "So how's it going boss? That's an adorable little apprentice you got there."
Suddenly Karous voice got softer as they slipped into their love routine. "Hikaru, Do you wish you had a little brother like Shiro?"
Hikaru gasped in response and gently wrapped his hand around his brothers chin before whispering lovingly. "Don't be silly, I could search the globe and I would never find a better brother than you Karou."
The guest squealed in enjoyment at the sight but was slowly stopped when Shiro stepped back with a strange look of horror. What had he just seen?! "They're homos! And they are brothers! That makes this totally inseptuous!"
Suddenly a voice could be heard other the sofa in utter boredom as Rennette corrected him. "You mean incestuous."
Shiro gasped and ran towards Rennette while pointing an accusatory finger at her. "And you're okay with that?! Just who are you anyway?"
She slowly put her book down and looked down at the boy before an unpleasant memory flashed in her head. Specks of orange and green flicked in the corner of her vision and a sickening feeling washed over her. It was something she hadn't felt in awhile. This kid was bring back things she would've liked to forget.
Because of this, her tone came out a bit harsher than usual. "No one you need to be concerned with. If you don't like it then just go home kid."
Everyone was shocked at what she had just said. The entire host club noticed a change in her attitude as soon as Shiro walked into the club. Usually Rennette was joking and laughing but somehow the appearance of that boy caused her to change her tone and actions completely. It was indeed strange.
Shiro took a step back at her tone before scoffing and turning on his heels. He tried to 'examine' the other hosts strategies but was only disappointed when they included that he called "a blonde child with a scary guy, and a cross dresser."
After the entire club was insulted they stewed in irritation as Kyoya walked over to her and state. "Rennette, It's time for your set."
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief at his words. Maybe this would help the morale of the club.
Of course it was short lived as Shiro gaped loudy to the entire club. Pointing a shaking hand at Rennette and shouted. "Wait. Rennette? As in Rennette Lightwood?!"
Rennette widened her eyes and froze as the kid waited for her response. She didn't know what this kid knew but she also knew it couldn't be good. "Yeah, what of it?"
Gasping once again he watched her pick up her violin and move to the corner of the room.
Haruhi carefully wandered over to him and wondered just what got this boy so excited. "Do you know Rennette, Shiro?"
He looked at the commoner now in anger and slapped her roughly in the arm. "Know her? How could I not! She's a violin prodigy! I watched all her concerts when I was a kid!"
Hikaru narrowed his eyes and muttered loudly. Suddenly he seemed to be in a sour mood as well. "You ARE a kid."
Honey turned his head to the side in confusion and questioned. "Is that true Ren-chan? How come you never told us?"
Rennette looked down at the floor before muttered bitterly "Thought I wouldn't have to. Guess it was just wishful thinking."
Then she lifted her violin into place and everyone watched her take in a quick breath before starting her song.
The guests closed there eyes at the soft tunes and everything finally seemed to have calmed down after all. Although, Shiro somehow did not look pleased.
Twisting his face into a disgusted face he pointed his finger out to her and shouted loudly. "Too plain!"
The entire room froze and Rennette missed a notes caused her bow to squeak on one of her strings.
Becoming silent once more Tamaki laughed nervously and tried to correct the mood. "What are you talking about Shiro? I thought you called her a prodigy."
He shook his head rapidly and scoffed. "She was. What happened to you? Man, you really went downhill. No wonder you don't perform live anymore."
Rennette's eyes widened in shock and everyone expected to see her burst in anger like she usually did but was surprised when that wasn't the response they saw. Instead she just looked like a kicked puppy as she quickly put her head down.
Hikaru and Kaoru were seething with anger and stepped in front of her to cover her dejected look. Hikaru then decided to speak first. "Hey what's your problem kid?!"
Karou was shortly afterword. "Yeah, you can't say that to her. Apologize"
Rennette closed her eyes for a second before snapping her head back up and stepping into between the boys, a sarcastic grin plastered on her face. "Whoa, down boys. It's not a big deal. I'm not some prissy girl who is bothered at what some elementary school kid says."
Their shoulders relaxed a bit but they were in no way ready to move to the side. Something about this still didn't sit right with them.
Tamaki as well was still fired up at his words. "Even still, there is no way I will let you disrespect Rennette. So, put this brat in insolation!"
The twins were more than happy to grab the young boy and pull him to the center of the room as an extremely large cage lowered to the floor, causing him to be trapped. That would teach him. "What's going on?! Why did you put me in a cage all of the sudden?"
Haruhi had to blink to few times before oddly pointing towards the cage in question. "Why do we have a cage anyways? Isn't this supposed to be a musical room?"
Ignoring her, Shiro banged against the bars once more. "This is no way to treat your loyal apprentice! Now let me out of this cage!"
Tamaki sighed and grabbed a cup of tea before sipping it slowly. "Not until you've learned your lesson. I made you my apprentice because I thought you were serious about being a host. I guess not."
Shiro tightened his grip in fear as the others watched. Maybe he had lost his chance after all. "I am serious I'm totally serious. I want you to teach me how to make a woman happy! I'm gonna run out of time. Please, won't you teach me?"
At the last part of his sentence Rennette and Haruhi raised an eyebrow. What did that mean?
Suddenly the ground began to shake and Renge appeared giving some sort of speech about what sort of "character type" Shiro would be.
She then proceeded to trip the boy and give him fake scars in markers to fit his new found image.
Very quickly Shiro realized that this host club wasn't going to help them as they were just messing around themselves. Maybe this really was pointless after all. "This is so stupid, none of this is ever gonna make her happy.
Then turning around he ran away from the scene as the others watched him in confusion. "Shiro wait!"
Rennette narrowed her eyes and scoffed before crossing her arms. " Just let him go. That kid needs to grow up and realize it's pointless."
They are paused as Tamaki frowned at muttered. "Who spit in your coffee today? You've been like this ever since he arrived."
She glanced at him and felt her hands grip her own arms tighter before rolling her eyes. "No reason, and even if there was, it's not any of your goddamn business. I'm leaving."
Turning quickly she picked up her bag and started to walk towards the door with an unreadable expression. She got halfway down the hall when she felt someone grab her arm and turned to find Karou staring at her. It was odd to see him without his brother. "Rennette wait. You can't leave yet. The club decided to go to Shiro's school to try and figure out the problem."
Rennette looked down at his arm before shrugging it off. "So? I'm not going to that school. Have fun."
Karou looked at her sadly as his voice got oddly quiet. "Rennette, I know why you said what you did back there but you can't just run away from this. Stop acting like a child and come help us."
At the "child' line she grimaced and closed her eyes in pain. Maybe they were right, but that didn't make it hurt any less. "If you know why, then I suggest you leave me alone. I can't…"
He smiled at her a tiny bit and took a step closer in reassurance. "Yes you can. Just come to the school with us. I know it brings back bad memories but we don't even have to step foot in the concert hall.."
Her voice started to crack a bit in pain as she continued. " You don't understand! It's not just the concert hall. That boy, Shiro Takaoji, he's a pianist. I recognized him from an article a while ago. I can't go to that school Karou. If one kid was disgusted imagine the entire school when they look at what I've become. I can't, I can't have them stare at me like he just did. Just, leave me alone."
Not knowing what to do, Karou reached out one last time and grabbed her hand, invisibilly pleading for her to stay even though he knew it wasn't that simple. "Rennette…"
She looked down and understood his request but quickly pulled away. "I'll see you at home."
Karou's hand formed into a fist as he watched her walk away with a sick feeling in his stomach. Even though she put on such a front, her world was still closed off to most. Of course he couldn't blame her after what she had been through, also it was the same mindset Hikaru and him had until a little while ago.
Tamaki watched Rennette leave and shortly after she was gone he huffed out an annoyed breath. "That orange haired devil, what's got her all riled up?"
Haruhi noticed the twins looking at the door in pain while they intertwined their hands with each other in reassurance. It seemed like they knew something that the rest of the club didn't.
Honey nodded his head and held his bunny closer to him in question. "It seems like something made Ren-chan really upset. I hope she's okay."
Mori nodded his head as the twins looked between each other and sighed. Then Karou felt his feet moving on their own. "I'll go talk to her."
Hikaru moved as well to follow his brother. Honestly he was just as worried for Rennette as the rest but he didn't want to show it. "Me too."
Karou paused a put a reassuring hand to his brothers chest. Somehow he knew that Hikaru's high strung attitude wasn't what Rennette needed right now. "Someone needs to stay here and hear the plan for Shiro. I'll go."
Not liking his suggestion Hikaru balled his fists but didn't make a move to please his brother. Karou nodded his head once before turning and quickly walking out the door.
Hikaru and Tamaki stood next to each other in silence before Tamaki tried to lighten the mood with a joke. "It's funny that that devil doesn't like kids since she's practically a kid herself."
But unfortunately Hikaru didn't find his joke very funny. Instead he just looked away and muttered roughly. "It's not like that, she's been through a lot."
This caught the attention of the rest of the host club who looked at him in question. What did he mean by that cryptic message?
Haruhi in particular was curious as what hardships would a rich kid have, but then softened when she remembered the mention of Rennette's mother.
Tamaki blinked a few times before asking the question that everyone was wondering. "What do you mean?"
But he never got a response as Hikaru looked away once more before frowning. It was almost like he was remembering something unpleasant.
Just then, Karou came back without Rennette and his brother raced forward. A look of worry crossed his face and Karou sighed loudly before faking a smile. "Rennette said she's going home for the day so we'll just go to the school instead."
They all nodded their heads in understanding as Haruhi moved forward to the twins. "Is she alright?"
Karou paused for a moment before slowly nodding his head and giving another fake smile. "Yeah she'll be fine. You worry too much Haruhi. This is just her personality."
Tamaki nodded his head like the idiot he was and bought his routine. "Alright then! Let's go back to elementary school gentleman."
Rennette sighed loudly and pulled her headphones into her ears as music began to play, drowning out the unnecessary thoughts in her head.
Leaving without the twins certainly felt weird but she pushed on, ignoring the car up front and choosing to walk home instead.
Slight whispers could be heard outside as the effects of her prank still lingered in the air. Nobody got close to her anymore but she supposed that was the goal afterall.
Her mind begin to think about the club and how she left things. Why was she even worried? It wasn't like that group of idiots were her friends. She didn't have any friends.
The twins sure, but nobody else would ever gain that title. She wasn't naive and ignorant anymore and knew deep down that this was the right choice, the one she made when she walked over to Toya that day.
What would've it have even mattered if she went with them to that school? She had the response immediately, nothing. All that awaited her there was a past she didn't want to dig up, and most certainly didn't want the club to find.
Rennette stopped her steps when she noticed a music shop to her left hand side. There was a oaked violin in the window as it stared her down in disapproval. Why was she even thinking of this? It was stupid.
Looking at the instrument, another unpleasant flash entered her head as she rested her hand on the cool glass. "No, I can't..."
She sighed once more and looked towards the direction of the elementary school before groaning loudly and putting her head on the glass. "Rennette, what are you thinking?"
After a couple seconds of silence she shook her head and couldn't believe herself what she was about to do. "Ahh I'm going to regret this. I can just feel it."
Then turning on her heels she started walking in a new direction, a direction that led straight to the elementary school.
"Here is it, Shiro's classroom!" said Honey as he danced into the room followed by a less enthusiastic Haruhi.
She sighed and walked in all while checking behind her for teachers. "There's nobody here."
The club casually strolled into the space behind them and walked around. It was indeed empty.
Hikaru and Kaoru looked around the room with an unreadable expression to which Haruhi noticed right away. "Hey, are you two okay?"
They turned and Hikaru answered a bit too fast for the two of them, almost like he was defensive. "What? Yeah of course. Hey, I wonder if there are still doodles on my desk."
She narrowed her eyes but dropped the subject quickly. "Why did you have use two sneak in if you were just going to barge in like that?"
Kyoya pushed his glasses up in response and stated. "Don't worry. There isn't anybody here catch us."
As if right on cue a teacher walked into the room and gasped at the sight. "You there, who are you and what are you doing in this school?!"
Everyone gulped as they pushed Tamaki in front of them to do the talking. He stuttered a bit in his answer. "Uhh you see Sir, we were just ummm."
Of course the teacher wasn't having any of it as he crossed his arms and pointed a finger at the group. "Those uniforms, you are from Ouran Academy correct? I want all of your names and classes right now."
They continued to stutter when a new voice filled the space and walked towards them. "Oh there you are. I thought I told you to stay close to me. It's very easy to get lost here."
The club turned and blinked a few times before their jaws dropped to the floor. Standing there was Rennette, but she looked far different then at the club. Her hair was put up in a high ponytail and she wore the most sickening sweet expression on her face. It almost didn't look like her at all.
The teacher narrowed his eyes and walked over to her. "And who might you be? Entering school grounds is strictly forbidden."
She glanced at the group before bowing slightly towards the man and placing a hand to her mouth. "I know, and I'm terribly sorry but I just wanted to take a walk down memory lane. My name is Rennette Lightwood."
The teacher froze at her words and pushed his glasses even further up his nose. Did he just hear that correctly? "Did you just say your name was Rennette Lightwood?"
Nodding her head once Rennette pulled out her student ID card and showed it to him. "Yes, and I'm sorry for entering the school without permission. I just wanted to show my friends here were I used to play."
Used to play? The phrase was new on the host club but continued to keep their mouths shut as he let out a hardy laugh in joy. "Of course of course. I'm sorry I didn't recognize you Miss Lightwood. It is a honor. You are welcome in our school anytime."
She smiled slightly and bowed once more. "Thank you Sir. Now if you don't mind…"
The teacher began to cut her off in his own excitement, trying to pull her away from the group. "You know it would make our music students very happy if you could play something for them. I think they are having class right now actually we could.."
Rennette's eyes widened in fear as she took a step back and tried to laugh her response off. "Oh I would love to, but unfortunately I hurt my pointer finger at school so I really can't play until it's healed. I'm sorry."
This lie seemed to fool the teacher as he gasped loudly before nodding his head. "Oh no! Of course I understand. A musicians hands are very important. Maybe when they heal you can come back and play something for them"
She nodded her head once just to brush him off and started a new topic of conversation. "If I may ask Sir, I've heard quite a great deal about this Shiro Takaoji. Is it possible if we talk about him more?"
He smiled once more and put a hand to his chest in pride. "Of course. Shiro Takaoji is a promising pianist. He is in the classical music club after all."
He turned around and pointed to a picture hanging on the wall beside him. It showed Shiro playing next to a younger girl who had brown hair tied in two small pink bows.
The club looked at the photos in awe as Tamaki noticed another one catch his eye. There on the far right was a picture of the twins in their usual bowl cuts with a small orange haired girl in the background.
They looked less than thrilled to be getting there pictures taken while the girl in the background had a large goofy grin on her face. The twins themselves seemed to be playing some sort of video game.
He squinted his eyes and pointed to the small blurred figure. "Hey Rennette, is this you?"
She turned to the picture before nodding her head without speaking. She didn't seem thrilled he found the photo either.
The teacher smiled and held out his hand before opening the door to the hallway next to him. "I can do one better…"
Rennette raced forward and touched his shoulder in anxiety. Oh please no. "Ahh well actually I think we need to get going…"
Of course he didn't listen and instead pulled the group to a new hallway they had yet to see before smiling proudly. "This was taken at the last music concert of the season way back."
The group walked over and gasped when they saw a large framed photo next to a bunch of other photos. They all depicted young students from what looked like past performances.
Standing proud in the middle was a large picture with an elementary school aged Rennettel but this time you could tell she was in the middle of playing her violin for a large crowd.
She was wearing a pure white dress that reached her ankles but that wasn't what surprised the club the most. What surprised them was the expression on her face. It looked so joyful, something they could never see before at the club.
On closer inspection they saw another figure in the background by the piano. The woman seemed to have the same orange hair as Rennette's as she played the piano with ease.
Honey noticed this and pointed it out. "Whoa, Rennette you look so pretty! Who is that other woman in the background?"
Freezing she unwilling looked at the picture before crossing her arms and turning her head. "I think it's time we go."
The twins eyed her carefully as her posture started to cave in uncertainty and they took a step closer to her in comfort.
She didn't accept the pull and instead took a step towards the door while the teacher called out. "Wait, I think I have some old tapes of past performances if you would like to see…"
Letting out a breath of fear, Rennette turned and forgot about her caged emotions. Instead her voice came out laced with anxiety. "No! Just drop it already!"
The teacher froze as Rennette realized her mistake and tried to backtrack, holding a hand to her temple in fake pain. "Oh I'm sorry, I'm not feeling too well. I think it would be best if we take our leave."
He seemed to have bought the routine and left quite quickly after that which was a relief to the entire host club.
Once he was gone Rennette's shoulders sagged out of posture as she undid her ponytail in annoyance. "Ahh finally. I thought he would never leave."
Haruhi turned her head in confusion and asked. "Rennette, I thought you went home. What made you come back?"
She looked away for a minute and averted her eyes while she answered. "What, a girl can't change her mind? Is that some sort of crime?"
The commoner shook her head. She supposed not, but even still it was a bit weird.
Then before they tried to question what they had just seen Rennette flipped her hair behind her shoulder and pushed her thumb towards the classical music club. "Well are we just going to sit around and stare at each other all day or are we going to do what we came here for? I mean, I already did half the work, it's time you do your half."
Looking dumbfounded they agreed and followed her down the hallways to a specific room on the left hand side. The area was open with big bay windows so it was easy to see inside the club.
Sitting there in the center of the room by the window they noticed Shiro. He had one leg resting on the sill and another dangling from the air, seeming to be very deep in thought.
He paused when the girl from the photo before strolled up to him and smiled slightly. "Shiro, I'm about to practice. Do you want to join me?"
Looking at her face he blushed a bit before muttered. "No that's okay, you can play. I'll just listen."
The girl looked dejected at first but quickly perked up and moved to the grand piano next to her. As she played Shiro felt himself get lost in the music, almost at peace.
Rennette and Tamaki watched the boy feeling a bit of nostalgia from his expressions. They knew exactly what was up. He loved her.
After interrogating one of the members the club found out that the girl was moving away soon and everything clicked into place.
Suddenly Shiro erupted from the classroom and shouted at the group. "Wha, what are you doing here?! I want you to leave right now!"
Tamaki took one look at the boy and slung him over his shoulder without a second thought, all while moving towards the entrance and muttering. "Come on, we are leaving."
The king slammed open the door to the host club and slammed Shiro onto the sofa before shouting angrily. "Why didn't you tell us?"
Looking at him dumbfounded Shrio stared at the members in shock. "I don't know what your talking about."
Though it looked like the King wasn't having it as he pointed to him in a accusatory manner. "You lied when you said you wanted to make every woman happy. Truth is, you only care about one. Is that right?"
A large blush crossed the face of the boy as he looked away in shame. It seemed that was all the proof they needed.
Getting a bit quieter he replied back. "I'm too late. She's leaving and I'll never get to see her again."
The entire host club stared at the boy in pity. There was no doubt about it that he was an obnoxious brat but in this moment he just looked like a normal child.
Suddenly a soft chuckle could be heard behind the group as they turned to Rennette. She strolled up to boy before crossing her arms. "Listen kid, I'm gonna give you some advice. It's better if you just let her go. Heck, the end result is going to be messy anyways. Might as well end it early."
A hard silence entered the space after she finished but that didn't last long as Honey hopped towards her in question. "That's not true Ren-chan. Not everything ends bad."
She squinted her eyes in response and scoffed. "You're so naive. Of course it does. It's always better to strike first instead of be struck."
Shiro had just about had enough with this conversation as he leaped forward towards the other twin and shouted. "What do you know? You don't even have any friends. I bet you don't know anything about love!"
Taking a dangerous step forward Rennette hissed out her response. "I know enough. Now, I suggest you quit trying to talk about things you don't understand."
The twins noticed her stance and carefully moved over to her, Karou's voice reaching her first. "Rennette come on, that's enough."
But of course Shiro wasn't done with her as he hit her right where it hurt. Straighten up in his stance he shouted. "You know, you were her favorite musician. She listened to your sets all the time. Now I can tell her that you are just a pathetic has been."
The hairs on the orange haired girl stood straight up as the room dropped to the dead silence. Nobody dared to speak after his words and after a few moments the tension was almost to much to bare.
Everyone turned to Rennette to see her face but found nothing. The only expression she had was one of pure disinterest. But of course deep down, Rennette felt something else but it wasn't like she was going to admit that.
They watched as she let out a large gapping sigh before putting her signature smirk back up. "See? I knew this was a bad idea. You know what kid, do what you want."
Then she turned on her heels and began to walk to the door. Tamaki, being the leader felt the need to reach out to her. "Rennette wait, we haven't finished yet."
Rennette paused for a moment before looking to him and muttering. "Just drop it Souh."
She continued walking, to which Tamaki tried once more to make her stay. "But Rennette.."
Then, something happened that the Host club had never seen from her. She hissed, seething with unkempt hatred and hurt.. "I said drop it!"
And just like that, he let her look through those doors before sighing loudly so the entire club could hear. He didn't know what exactly had just happened, but he knew that it had hurt her deeply.
A couple hours later, Tamaki was gathering up a bunch of peoples to give the teacher before heading out. It seemed the sun was about to set which meant that his car would be arriving soon.
He strolled down the now empty hallways, towards the office when he heard a soft melody echo through his ears.
Stopping in his tracks, Tamaki decided to follow the sound of the melody until it grew in volume. He soon realized he was standing in front of the Host Club room.
Slowly opening the door he realized the sound was split into two parts. One of them sounded like a recording while the other was definitely an actual instrument.
Right away he noticed the difference between the recording and the instrument. It seemed like the recording of the song was much more refined and smooth then the person playing. The recording brought a wave of joy and simplicity while the other attempted to match the tone but it just sounded off.
Tamaki creaked open the door a bit more to see who exactly was playing when he almost dropped all the papers in his hands. Standing there with her eyes closed was Rennette Lightwood.
She didn't seem to notice his presence just yet as she ran her bow through the strings. This was much different then when she was at the club. Here he could clearly see her struggling with the piece as she tightened her eyes all while her brow looked disapproving.
Suddenly her bow squeezed on a note and Rennette abruptly stopped playing. Looking down at her feet she gave a frustrated grunt before realizing the presence behind her.
Stopping slightly she took a step back before recognizing the host king. "Ahh what the hell Souh!? Do you like stalking people or something? Don't tell me I'm gonna have to file for a restraining order."
He blinked a few times and tried to cover his track. "What? Of course not! I was just taking these papers to the office and I heard you practicing."
Rennette looked at her face for any signs of lying and when she found none she muttered sarcastically. "Oh, sorry for the disappointment then."
At those words Tamaki turned his head to the side. "Disappointment? I thought it was beautiful."
Her eyes widened at his words and a heavy blush forced its way into her face. She coughed a few times and tried to cover it up with another sarcastic remark. "Oh, come off it Souh, you don't need to lie. I'm not one of your host club princesses after all. No need to act here."
The Host King was even more confused by her words. "What are you talking about Rennette?"
She sighed and pointed to the CD player next to her before rolling her eyes. "Oh please. If you were here then you heard it, the difference between the CD and me."
Somewhere instead him Tamaki knew he couldn't lie so he decided to come clean. "Yeah, who was that anyway? I've never heard anyone play like that before."
Rennette grimaced for a moment before pointing her bow towards the recording. "It's me. Well, it's a recording from six years ago."
Souh gasped at this development and gawked at her performance. "Wait, really?! Rennette, that was amazing!"
She nodded her head once and stated. "Yeah, is was. But you heard what I did just now. It's not the same. It hasn't been the same since then."
Honestly, he did notice the change in tone other the two pieces when he first walked in. Looking at Rennette today he hardly could believe she used to be able to play like that CD. "Since when?"
He watched her look away for a second before her began to put her violin away. "Since I had to get a new accompanist."
Tamaki thought back to the large picture on the wall at the elementary school and the small blurred figure in the background playing the piano. He never knew an accompanist could be so meaningful to her. He then thought about the woman's looks and her very familiar set of orange hair. Just then, everything clicked.
He silently hoped he would be wrong about his assumption as his voice dropped down to a deep whisper. "Was your accompanist, your mother?"
Rennette's hand paused on the lock of her case and gave a look to Tamaki that said a million words, he was right.
After a moment she continued packing and spoke. "It was a car accident. We were driving back from one of my competitions. She didn't want to go out but I begged her to let me go. What good that did, right?"
His eyes dropped at her words as more pieces started to click together. "Is that why you stopped performing?"
One nod from her head was enough to satisfy his question as new thought came racing to his head. Could it be that she silently blamed herself for her mothers death, and that's why she can't play the same way as before? The thought itself broke his heart as he hoped it wasn't true.
He honestly didn't know how to help her in this moment. Swooning girls was one thing but she was seriously hurt and all his training as a Host didn't help him here. "Rennette..I.."
Tamaki stopped when he heard her give a low chuckle before scoffing. "It seems like that stupid kid was right. I am just a pathetic has been."
Taking a couple steps closer he found himself a few inches away from her. He then did the only thing he knew how to do, he tried comforting her. "Rennette, I'm sorry, I know it must be hard to pick up that violin after everything. And if I knew, I wouldn't have acted to harsh."
She turned to him and watched as Tamaki lighty put his hand on top of hers. Rennette thought about ripping it away but his next words stopped her. "But even so, I'm proud of you for continuing to play. You may not sound the same as before but I know that someday you will create a new sound, a sound that surpasses the old one. You just have to keep trying."
Looking at him in utter shock she quickly turned her head away and scoffed. "Yeah right. I highly doubt it. And Souh?"
He gazed at her in sadness as she looked at him with a blank expression. "How long are you going to keep holding my hand?"
Gasping, Tamaki let go and took a couple steps back before realizing this wasn't working. It wasn't like she was one of his guests who would swoon over anything. He was foolish to think that would work.
Still flustered he picked up his papers and started to head towards the door before muttering. "Just, think it over."
And just like that he was gone from her sight. Once he had disappeared Rennette looked down at the hand he had touched and smiled to herself before muttering. "Idiot."
Then next day came by faster than expected and everyone was joined in the club room, waiting for Shiro to arrive.
The plan was to bring his crush over to the club so that they could finally play together before she moved away.
It seemed like Rennette had yet to show up though and Tamaki looked at the twins nervously before speaking. "Did you two hear anything about Rennette?"
They looked between each other and shook their heads, Karou answering for both of them. "Sorry boss. It's hard to talk to her when she's like this. We have no idea what she's doing."
He looked down in disappointment before snapping back into place. It was showtime.
The doors slowly opened to reveal Hina who looked completely awestruck to be there and the host got into position, bowing slightly. "Hello Princess."
Hina smiled in delight as she moved down the line of boys. When she got to Tamaki he bowed again before pointing to the piano in the corner. "May I present to you, Shiro's piano recital."
Shiro turned his head to Hina and smiled slightly before looking at the keys. "Let's play together Hina."
She nodded her head in joy and moved to sit by the piano with him. Then they began to play, the keys coming alive by the music.
They got halfway through the song when Shiro got a bit nervous and hit the wrong key. Everyone looked up at him as he frowned in embarrassment. Maybe this wasn't such a good idea after all.
Even Hina seemed to notice his mistake as questioned. "Shiro, are you okay?"
Refusing to answer, he suddenly heard a new sound, the sound a violin.
They all turned their heads and found Rennette standing in front of them, wearing a white tea length dress, almost like the one in the picture at the elementary school.
She stepped forward and pointed to Shiro before smirking. "Well, are you going to introduce me or what?"
He tripped over his words but eventually found the right ones spoke. "Hina, this is Rennette Lightwood."
Hina's eyes widened as she gasped in excitement. "No way, are you really Rennette Lightwood?!"
Rennette just smiled lightly and nodded her head. "Yes, Shiro invited me to play with you guys, that is if you don't mind? I am a bit rusty."
A little girl nodded her head widley and turned to Shiro. "You invited her, for me?"
Shiro gulped and went along with her story. "Of course I did. I know how much you love her."
Hina blushed as his words and they began to play again, this time with Shiro being way more confident in his playing.
Rennette joined into the song and together, the moment was perfect. Hina looked like the happiest girl in the world.
Once everything was finished and Hina had left, Shiro turned to Rennette and muttered. "Thanks for that I guess."
She looked at him and shrugged. "I didn't do it for you, I did it for Hina. Guess I'm sorry for calling you a brat though."
They both looked at each other and nodded their heads in an unspoken understanding when the rest of the Host Club came over.
Hikaru turned his head to the side in confusion and asked. "I thought you were staying home today Rennette?"
Slipping on her heels she turned her head and crossed her arms. "I was, but I got bored. Thought I might as well help you out."
Karou just smiled at Rennette knowing it probably took a lot of courage to do what she just did. That is, until she smiled under her breath and stated. "And some idiot convinced me to stay."
Tamaki's eyes widened at her words as a hot ball rose in his throat. He knew somewhere deep down inside that she had meant him.
But as soon as it was there, he tried to cover it up with a change in conversation. "See, I knew Rennette would look great in cosplay! Come here and let me take a picture of you."
He then raced forward with a camera all while Rennette started to run in the opposite direction. "Oh no you don't! Souh I swear, I will break your camera. Don't come any closer. I warning you.."
Tamaki just laughed at her antics as the twins looked at each other and sighed happily. It seemed like things had gone back to normal.
AHHHHHHHHH I'm done! This chapter is so long I apologize. I've been working on it for quite awhile since Rennette is such a hard nut to crack. I hope this gives a bit more insight on her character. :)
