Karou casually walked by Renette's room only to find her dressed up sloppy with her hair in a messy bun and a grey sweatshirt. It certainly was strange to see her going out on a weekend and he knew he needed to call her out for it. "Hey Renette, where are you going?"
She paused at his presence, looking down at bag on the bed. "Ahh nowhere really. I just wanted to check out this shop that's opening up. Souh's tagging along also I guess."
Dropping the objects in his hand, Karou couldn't believe what he was hearing. "You asked the Boss out?!"
A heavy blush entered her cheeks, stuttering out her response quickly. "What? No. I didn't ask anyone out. He just happened to be free."
But Karou couldn't stop giving a creepy smile. This was the very first time she had pushed past her comfort zone. She was finally breaking out of her shell, if only a little. "Okay okay sure."
Just then, he realized her appearance and gasped. "Wait, please don't tell me you are thinking about meeting the Boss like that?"
Renette looked down at her casual commoner clothes and shrugged. "Yeah, what's wrong with it?"
Putting his hands to his face, Karou sighed in utter devastation. She was a model but she fashion sense for dates was just dreadful. Luckly, he was there. "Oh no, this is not happening."
Karou moved to her closet and threw it open aggressively before throwing various clothes on the bed. He was going to fix this one way or another.
Renette ducked at the projectitles and shouted. "Hey! What are you doing Karou? I just cleaned!"
Finding what he was looking for, Karou carefully pulled out the dress in question and answered straightforward. "There is no way I'm letting you meet Tamaki dressed like that. This is the first time you've asked someone out, you need to step it up. Lucky for you I know a bit about fashion design because of my mother.."
Shoving the dress in front of her, he ordered. "Here, wear this."
Renette looked at the fabric for a moment before pushing it away. "Oh no. There is no way I'm wearing that. Over my dead body Karou."
But Karou wasn't about to let this go, taking a dangerous step further to her, causing her to back away in fear. "Okay Karou, why are you looking at me like that?"
Bringing the dress closer, she shouted back at him to get him to rest. "Oh no, no, no, no. There is no way in hell I am going to wear that dress so you can't just forget it!"
Yet once again, Karou only smiled.
Tamaki waited at the meeting spot, leaning against the wall and casually checking the clock every five seconds for her arrival.
When he had gotten that invite from Renette, he literally almost woke up the entire household with his constant screaming and joy. Now it seemed the time was finally here.
He paused when a couple girls moved up to him, clearly taken by his beauty. "Umm hello? My friend was wondering if she could get your number? Are you waiting for someone?"
Tamaki gazed at the black haired girl, slipping into his prince mode almost immediately, kneeing and taking the girls hand. "My princess, I would rather meet again by happenstance so that then we would truly know this meeting was fated. Only then shall we know."
The girl blushed and fangirl screamed in response. "Ahh yes you're right! I hope we can meet again soon."
The King smiled and kissed her hand lovely. "Yes, I shall be awaiting that day."
Yet the bubble was popped when a sarcastic voice entered the space. "Wow, why am I not surprised Souh. Can't you go two seconds without those corny pickup lines?"
Tamaki paused at looked towards the voice, when he was frozen at the sight before him.
What he saw was indeed Renette, but she looked very different from at the host club.
Gracing her body was a light pink and blue dress with bows and little carousel horses upon the skirt. Her hair was down in loose curls and a matching pink bow tying everything together. Also she was wearing more makeup then at the club.
Because of that, Tamaki couldn't process her appearance and took several steps back in shock, a heavy blush covering his entire face. "Whaaa Renette? What are you wearing?!"
She looked down at her outfit and sighed heavily. "I know, it looks weird, but that Karou is such a devil. He wouldn't let me leave the house without this. Just ignore it."
Silently thanking Karou in his head, Tamaki still couldn't process his words and instead stuttered out the response. "What? How could I? You look so cute!"
Renette's eyes widened and ignored the blush creeping up to her cheeks, instead slapping him on the side. "Whaa...Quit being so stupid."
He held the spot where she hit, Tamaki finally was able to calm down a little bit, lowering his voice just slightly and grabbing her hand. "I mean it Rennette. You look really cute."
Staring at him, she processed his words and took a step back in shock. It was impossible to hide that blush now. "S-stop it. Are you going to give me your cringy pick up lines all day or are we going to go?"
Renette forced his hand off of hers and started to walk away from him in fake annoyance, before turning back just slightly. "Well, are you coming?"
Tamaki stood there for a moment before smiling softly and running up to meet her so they could walk side by side.
A soft ring could be heard and Renette pulled out her phone before sighing, placing it back in her pocket. Tamaki noticed this. "Aren't you going to answer that?"
But Renette just shook her head. "It's not important."
Awkward silence entered the space and the King decided to speak first. "You know, I'm really happy you asked me to join you today."
Looking down at the ground, Renette just scoffed. "It's only because you like the same kind of food I do. Don't look into it too much. It's really not that special."
But the King just smiled. "It's special to me."
Feeling her heart leap in her chest, Renette tried to ignore it. "Everything is special to you Souh, that's why you're an idiot."
Although the insult sounded less like one and more like a weird compliment in her own way. Tamaki noticed his and remained quiet, remaining that way until they reached the shop.
When they reached the location, he watched Renette gasp in joy, running up to the window at the options. "Whoa, this is so cool! They have matcha flavor!"
Quickly ordering her ice cream sundae, they found a table in the corner and Renette put her spoon into the desert happily.
She took a big bite and sparkles radiated from herself, showing she was in complete and utter bliss. "This is so incredible! The chocolate and matcha are a perfect combination!"
Tamaki leaned on his hand and couldn't help but smile at her childlike nature that was so well hidden in school. When she was like this, it reminded him of himself a little bit. "Yes! And the decor of an old persian cafe must be like a comoners dream!"
Renette nodded her head excitedly. "I thought so too! It's like a destination spot if you are too poor to actually experience it yourself, right?"
The King agreed wholeheartedly. "Exactly Renette!"
Renette laughed and reached into her bag before pulling out a small book and opening up a page. Then she began writing something inside of that which got Tamaki curious. "What are you doing?"
Debating for a moment, she decided to hand the book over and mutter. "It's just this stupid thing I do."
He opened the book and gasped when pages were graced with different names and pictures of various commoners shops and restaurants lining each page. It was like a little scrap book for food. "Whoa, this is amazing."
Renette beamed at the complement and leaned forward, pointing to various spots. "Isn't it?! I've been keeping track of all the commoners food I've visited here and in France. Call it a little hobby of mine."
Seeing her so excited was really adorable to him and he wanted to learn more. "What got you so excited about this kind of food?"
Her face lit up in the response. "I mean what isn't?! The decor, the process of making the food, the various qualities. It's all so fascinating! There are just so many different varieties. You can really get it all!"
The similarities between herself and Tamaki right now were almost scary but no one was going to call each other out on it. He just liked seeing her so happy. "I completely understand! The life of a commoner is so interesting. The way that they are so different yet they can gather together in one spot to enjoy something together as a family."
Nodding her head, Renette shouted with excitement. "Right! It's just so cool! Better than some of the other stuffy food we have to get. You can really feel the emotions behind this kind of food."
They couldn't help but laugh at this, Renette taking another bite of her deseret. "This really is heavenly. Do you want some Tamaki?"
The two both paused when they realized exactly what she had said. She was so caught up in the moment that she was careless, saying his first name so casually.
Tamaki muttered out what she was thinking, blushing lightly. "Did you just call me by my first name?"
Dipping her spoon in the ice cream, she laughed. "Did I? Sorry Souh. I wasn't thinking straight. Here try some."
She nearly shoved the spoon in his mouth, causing him to choke on the ice cream as she laughed. She changed the subject so fast, it was obvious she didn't want to talk about it.
Coughing, he pulled out the spoon and shouted. "Hey, you were gonna kill me!"
Renette blinked a couple times and smirked. "I thought idiots didn't need to breathe. I mean even if you did, death by ice cream sounds like a pretty good way to go, doesn't it?"
She was laughing so hard that Tamaki knew he had to get his revenge, reaching forward and dipping his finger in the desert before flicking it onto her nose.
Renette stopped immediately and touched the cold substance. "Did you just…?"
Realizing he did it on purpose, her eyes darkened, dipping her own finger in the ice cream. "Oh, you are gonna wish you never did that Souh."
Flinging a small amount onto his face, Tamaki gasped. "My beautiful princely face!"
To which Renette just smirked. "Don't worry, it wasn't that great to begin with."
This got the King steaming with anger, throwing a large amount onto her face. "I suppose I just need to get my revenge."
Renette gasped and stood from her seat in a challenge. It was on. "I think you forgot Souh, revenge is my middle name."
About an hour later, and a bunch of apologies to the store, Tamaki and Rentte where standing on the street covered with ice cream. The managers didn't seem to like their challenge but with a drop of their family name, things were cleared up soon enough.
Tamaki sighed to himself, realizing he had probably blown his time with her and began picking up the piece. "I'm sorry Rennette. You really wanted to go to that store."
Although, he froze when she did something he wasn't expecting. She laughed.
Leaning over to support herself she giggled widely, shaking her head. "Are you kidding me?! That was the best! You look like a sad melted ice cream cone."
Blinking a few times, Tamaki looked down at her covered dressed and smirked. "Well, you don't look any better, my darling."
She turned her head sharply to him and pinched his side in annoyance. "The more you say that, the more I'm going to harass you, you know."
Flinching at the momentary pain, he smiled. "I know, that's what I'm planning on."
But the sentence was gone before she could even process it, as he held his hand out in offering. "I think we need to get ourselves cleaned up."
Nodding her head, she ignored his hand and started to walk ahead of him on the road.
They turned the corner when a voice entered the space, causing Renette to freeze in her tracks. "There you are! I have been looking everywhere for you! Have you been ignoring me?"
Turning around, Renette sighed when she saw Adele standing in front of her. She pretended to act in fake shock. "Oh, were those calls from you? I never even realized."
The sarcasm wasn't lost on the secretary, and she didn't find it funny. "Now is not the time for jokes Miss Lightwood. You know you are required to attend the gala this evening for networking purposes. Your father…"
But Renette cut her off before Tamaki could hear too much. "I already told you, I'm not going to that stupid party so you can forget it. I'm busy today."
Glancing at Tamaki, Adele narrowed her eyes. "I hardly think spending time with your boyfriend if more important than the future of the company."
Renette was about to speak out against the boyfriend allegation but it seemed the King beat her to it, trying to turn on his usual charm. "I highly apologize for keeping Renette out today, I didn't know she had a prior engagement."
Adele just looked dumbfounded. "Right, well now you know so I must take Miss Lightwood with me."
Reaching down, Renette jumped back in anger. "I already told you, I'm not going! Just leave me alone, we can talk about it later."
Yet Adele didn't seem phased, only pressing a button on her phone. "Why must you make this so difficult?"
Suddenly, a dozen black suited men stepped into view, blocking the possible exits, Adele standing right in the middle. "You know how serious we are. You will be coming with us. Would you rather do it the hard way?"
Glancing to the side, she probably would've fought these men but that would also been getting Tamaki involved, which she wasn't about to do. "Fine. But I'm not staying long."
Nodding her head, the men pushed Renette towards the car and with it, Tamaki. Before she could object, they were already driving away.
Tamaki looked out the window in confusion and whispered carefully. "Hey, Renette? Are we getting kidnapped right now?"
Sighing once, she shook her head and muttered. "Seems like it, doesn't it? Don't worry I'll get you out of here. Just stay quiet."
Not knowing what was happening, he decided to trust her and looked out the window, curious to see where the car would take them.
Luckily, the car ride wasn't long and before they knew it, Renette was standing in the middle of the stuffy party for some sort of business exchange. She didn't care to be honest.
Grabbing a glass from a server, Tamaki noticed most of the eyes were on them and whispered to her carefully. "Is that just me, or is everyone staring at us?"
Nodding her head halfheartedly, she sighed. "Probably, I don't go to these kinds of things anymore so it's pretty rare sight. I try to ignore them to be completely honest."
This struck a chord with Tamaki. "Why is that?"
He watched Renette smile bitterly into her glass. "You'll see. I'll be right back. I need to get this over with so we can leave."
She turned and moved over to another crowd of people when Tamaki was greeted with a small group of girls, obviously entranced by his beauty. "Hey, we heard that you are Renette's boyfriend. Is that true?"
Blinking in surprise, he shook his head. "Why do you ask that?"
The girls looked between themselves and shared a look before whispering. "We just want to warn you not to get too close to her. We were classmates with her back in France."
Narrowing his eyes in confusion, he was eager to here about Renette's school days as she knew wanted to bring it up during club hours. This could be a change to find out what she was like before Ouran. Although, they almost seemed afraid of her. "So you two were friends with her?"
At the word friend, they aggressively shook their heads. "Oh no, of course not. You really haven't heard about the incident, have you?"
This got him interested. "Incident?"
The girl on the left shook her head and elbowed her friend carefully. "Of course he doesn't know. Maybe she's trying to cover it up from him."
Her friend nodded her head and leaned in close to share the events she had witnessed. "Well, back in middle school, Renette went randomly berserk and beat the daylights out of another student. He was sent to the hospital and everything. She was only suspended for about a month though. Seemed like she had ties to the headmaster to get her back early. That's why you need to stay away from her, she's insane."
Widened his eyes, Tamaki tried to process what these girls were saying. Sure Renette was rough sometimes, but she was never violent. He couldn't imagine her beating someone so bad that they had to go to the hospital. Maybe these girls were mistaken. "Maybe he did something to provoke her?"
But the girls just shook their heads. "Not at all. He was top of his class, always helping her out whenever he had the chance. One day, she just snapped at the poor boy."
None of this made any sense to him. Renette wouldn't just beat up a defenseless boy like that. There had to be a reason. He just knew it.
Another girl entered the group then, eyeing Tamaki before gasping. "Wait, I know you. You are Tamaki Souh, the bastard son of that chairman."
He supposed that she was right but that didn't make him hurt any less. The other girls seemed interested at this as well. "Really? Well that makes sense then, a psycho and an illegitimate child. Seems like a match made in heaven."
Suddenly, bright red liquid splashed down the front of the girls dresses as they gasped in shock. "Who…?!"
But they froze when they saw just who was holding the glass, Renette. "Whoops my hand slipped, silly arm spasms."
They seethed in anger and slight fear at the girl before them. "Y-you did that on purpose!"
Shrugging her shoulders, Renette played dumb. "Did I? Who knows. I am a psycho after all."
The girls gasped and wanted to call her out but there were too many eyes on them now. They had to be professional.
Taking a glance at Tamaki's shocked expression, Renette moved dangerously close to the girls and whispered. "You can say whatever the hell you what about me, but don't you ever call him that again, understand? You said it yourself, who knows when I'll snap next."
Gulping, the girls shakley nodded their heads which was stadification enough for Renette, grabbing Souh's hand and pulling him out of the room. "Come on, let's go."
When they were out of wandering eyes, Renette let go of his hand and stood silently, staring at the night sky before them. "I'm sorry you got roped into all of this. Funny, the first time I ask someone out, all of this happens. I have the worst luck."
Running her fingers through her hair Tamaki could see the anxiety on her face and wanted to ease it. "I don't think it was all that bad."
Renette deadpanned and stared blankly. "You got kidnapped and called a illegitimate child. I think this is about as bad as you can get."
Thinking for a moment, he stretched his arms "But I got to see a little into your world. The one that is usually so closed off, I'm grateful for that."
Renette laughed bitterly at his response. "Yeah, isn't it wonderful? Living the dream."
Silence echoed through the space for a moment and Tamaki remembered the conversation between those two girls, wanting to find out the truth. "What those girls said before, was all that…"
Looking down at the floor, she answered. "True? What if I told you it was?"
This only brought another ball of uneasiness in his stomach. Was she really that kind of person? "Renette, I think you should…"
But Renette cut him off, suddenly looking enraged at his very idea. "Don't you dare tell me to apologize like everyone else does. I will never do that. I'm not sorry for what I did."
He remained quiet at that, wondering why this person made her so angry, when she whispered to him carefully. It was almost like she was afraid for the answer. "So, are you afraid of me now?"
Turning his eyes to disbelieve, he shook his head. "Of course not!"
Renette smiled to herself for a moment before turning to him. "Thanks for coming with me today, even though it turned out to be kind of a trainwreck. But I guess that's just what we are, a trainwreck."
Her smile in the moonlight was entracing to Tamaki, so much so that we finally remembered something.
Pulling an object out of his pocket, he showed it to her. "Oh, I almost forget. Since we couldn't eat the ice cream earlier, I got some of the free samples they had in the front. Aren't commonors amazing? Just the idea of free samples, is memorizing, don't you think?"
Renette looked down at the little macarons in his hand and couldn't help but give a little a laugh under her breath. "You are such an idiot."
His face fell for a moment, that is until she picked one up and took a small bite, smiling at the gesture for her. "I guess today wasn't that bad after all."
Okay but how flipping cute are they together? Little slight tsundere Renette protecting her boy from those girls. We get a little peek into her past before Ouran, it seemed like she was involved in some kind of stuff back in France. More on that later.
Next chapter: Someone finds out one of Renette's more well kept secrets.
