Tamaki walked into the club room to get ready for the day, throwing his back over the shoulder and humming to himself. He just couldn't help it.
Although when he turned the corner he couldn't help but freeze at the sight before him.
Laying on the sofa, with her hand draped over the side was Renette, with her eyes closed and her mouth slightly open.
Immediately thinking the worst, he raced over to her, checking to see if she was alright, yet the girl made no response.
Feeling another wave of anxiety, he got down to her level and began shaking her shoulders lighty, in order to get a response. "Renette? Renette, are you okay?"
But she still remained lifeless which caused him to shake her more, a panic now in his case. "Renette, answer me! Do I need to call 911?! What happened?!"
Groaning a tiny but, he watched her forcibly open her eyes just slightly, the voice coming out in a soft whisper. "Get.."
The King nodded his head and leaned forward at this. "Yes? What do you want me to get? The twins?"
Her eyes opened even more, the voice cutting through the air and through his entire body. "Get the hell away from me Souh."
He froze, letting his hands fall away and having her sit up. "Ugh I can't deal with you so early in the morning."
Blinking a few times in confusion, he began looking over her to see what was wrong. "Renette, are you okay? You passed out and…"
But she just looked at him like he was an idiot. "I didn't pass out, stupid. I was just trying to get some peace and quiet. You really thought I was dead, didn't you?"
He didn't want to answer that question but Renette already knew the truth, holding her temple in the start of a headache.
Tamaki then began trying to make sense of the situation. "So, you're okay?"
She just sighed heavily. "Well I mean, define okay? Cause I just lost part of my hearing from an idiot screaming in my ear."
He wanted to apologize to her, and he almost succeeded, until the rest of the host club bursted through the doors, causing him to stop.
Hikaru and Kaoru eyed the orange haired girl before moving towards her. "Hey Renette, where did you go? We didn't see you at lunch today."
Standing up from her seat, she began to stretch her arms. "Sorry boys, I just wasn't hungry. Decided to get some materials for our final exams next week."
Tamaki eyes this curiously as it didn't look like she was doing that, more like she was just sleeping. Maybe she didn't want the twins to know?
They seemed to accept this through and stopped interrogating her, instead getting ready for the guest to come any second.
Renette began tuning her violin for her set when a voice echoed behind her. "Can I talk with you for a minute?"
Turning her head, she found Kyoya towering in front of her. This was certainly odd. He never really liked to spark conversation with anyone, never mind her.
Narrowing her eyes in confusion, she stood to meet him. "What do you want, Kyoya?"
Pushing his glasses up to his face, he began his question. "I was wondering what you know about your father?"
Her hand visibly stopped on the violin, the question itself gaining the attention of the entire host club. They seemed curious at all.
After the small pause though, Renette grew back into her chocky attitude. "Why are you asking me this?"
Opening his usually black book, he continued. "I ask because right now, the Ootori Group is right in the middle of a partner offer with the Lightwood Group and I wanted to know if your father would be a benefit to our company."
Renette began to laugh at his question, somehow she found it funny. "Listen, I don't know why you are asking me this. I have no idea what my father does."
But Kyoya pushed further. "You are the only daughter of the company, although your father is hard to get a hold off, I would assume you've heard something regarding the deal."
Renette concluded that he really wanted dirt of her father to get ahead in the deal. Too bad she wasn't going to give it to him.
Taking a step closer, her eyes changed to ones of challenge. "I think you forget that not everyone is like you. I don't stalk my family to secretly get ahead."
Kyoya's eyes couldn't help but widened at her accusation. Yes that was the plan but having her figure it out so quickly was concerning. Maybe she was a smarter then she lead on.
Nodding her head once, he replied. "Right, sorry for prying then. I'll find my information elsewhere."
He began to walk away but before he could, she muttered something he barely heard under her breath. "Good luck."
This confirmed it, she definitely knew more than she was letting on. He had to be more careful.
Watching him go, the last school bell rang which meant the guests would be coming at any minute.
Getting into position, Tamaki leaned over Renette and spoke. "Make sure you take care of yourself. No more sleeping in the club room."
He reached his head up and rubbed her head like you would do a child's. This only made her blush deeply before throwing him off. "You're not my mom Souh. Plus, I won't try that again in fear of getting my other eardrum blown out, don't worry."
Smiling at that, he decided to let the conversation go, noticing the slight bags that were beginning to form under her eyes.
The next day approached and when Tamaki saw three very familiar orange heads turn the corner, he smiled like usual. "Good morning everyone!"
They turned to look at him, looking slightly anxious for some reason. "Are you two alright?"
Karou smiled halfheartedly while Hikaru began to sigh in his hands. They looked stressed out. "Yeah, it's just that Renette…"
Turning his head to the side in confusion, he heard another voice enter the space. It was bubbly and joyful. "There you are."
They turned and found Renette bouncing up to them happily, which certainly was odd. "What are you three talking about?"
Karou just shook his head. "It's nothing, don't worry about it."
Tamaki noticed something clearly different with the girl, but he couldn't put his finger on it. "What happened to her?"
Hikaru groaned and took a step closer so she couldn't hear. "We call it the "Tamaki effect." It happens when she doesn't get enough sleep and can't dcypher work from her usual attitude. It's a very dangerous thing."
This didn't make sense at all. She seemed just fine at the club yesterday. "The Tamaki effect?"
At his words, Renette moved up to him in question, her aura suddenly filled with sparkles and roses. It was kind of scary. "What's wong?"
Touching the side of his face lighty, she brought her face close and muttered cutely. "Am I worrying you again? I'm sorry Tamaki. I'm just so happy to see you all today."
This was far too much for the King, having his face go completely red and quickly began backing away from her like she was on fire. She doesn't even seem bothered that she had called him by his first name again. "What are you doing?"
Letting her hand fall, she eyes turned dejected which was a stab in his heart. "Do you not want to see me Tamaki? How cruel."
The twins sighed once more, grabbing her hand and pulling her away from the boss. "Come on Renette. I think the Boss just needs some time."
She nodded her head sadly, and Hikaru pointed to the girl in question. "This is why it's dangerous. She turns into you. It's been like this all morning."
Tamaki blinked in disbelief at the sight before him. A couple months ago he would've loved Renette to act like this towards his advances but now, it was just kind of creepy. "Why hasn't she been sleeping?"
Karou shook his head, eyes falling to the floor. "It's the finals coming up, she's been pouring her time into them. It's not usually this bad though. She must really be serious."
The King slightly understood but couldn't help be worried for the poor girl, her eyes seemed even more exhausted than before.
Suddenly the phone began to ring in her pocket and Renette pulled it out before sighing heavily, turning the other direction.
The twins seems concerned at this. They couldn't let her off on her own today. Who knows what she would do? "Hey, where are you going?"
But she just pointed towards the hall and yawned. "Library. I'll be back."
They supposed that was okay but it still worried them.
And what worried them even more, is the fact that she turned around and winked at Tamaki before flipping her hair stylishly. "Try not to miss me too much, Tamaki."
The sparkles followed her around the corner and both the twins and Tamaki were dumbfounded. "Is she going to be okay?"
Shaking their heads, Hikaru and Kaoru muttered. "I'm not sure."
The time for the host club came quickly and when they saw Renette walk in everyone froze. She didn't looked any better to say the least.
Guests eyed her as she went through the crowds and whispered about her changed personalities. It certainly was strange.
She approached Tamaki's sofa before flopping down next to him happily. Usually he would've been thrilled but now he was just scared. "AHH Renette?! What are you doing?"
Playing with the ends of her dress, she leaned forward which only made him even more uncomfortable. "I just wanted to sit with you, is that so bad?"
She batted her eyes a couple days and Tamaki knew he couldn't say no to her. His heart was too melted for that. "Of course not, but…"
This response made her jump in excitement, wrapping her arms around him in a tight hug which made the rest of the guests seethe with anger. "Yay! Thank you Tamaki, you're the best!"
He gasped at the contact and began trying to pry himself off of her, noticing the unhappy glares from both the guest and two orange haired devils in the corner.
She seemed to get the memo and let go, only to lean into his chest and smile sweetly. "So soft."
Blushing even more, Hikaru came to his aid, pretending to act hurt rather than annoyed at her close contact. "Renette, you promised you would sit with us, remember? Do you like the Boss more than me?"
She thought for a moment before letting go of the prince. "Did I? I like you both but if I promised Hikaru than I'll sit with him. I'm sorry."
Giving him puppy dog eyes, Tamaki flitched, afraid she was going to grab onto him again. "It's okay…"
This seemed to make her very happy, jumping from the sofa and hopping over to Hikaru and Kaoru. She sandwiched herself between them comfortably and smiled. "I like this too."
The twins couldn't help but smile at her childlike nature, Hikaru pushing her head onto his shoulder. "Good. Now sleep, you need it."
Pouting her lips, she closed her eyes for a moment only to have her fall asleep just as quickly. It really didn't take much for her to be completely knocked out.
Tamaki rose from behind his spot behind the sofa, whispering. "Is it safe?"
Karou nodded his head, moving a strand of hair from her eyes. "Sorry Boss. It's not usually this bad. I wonder long has she been pushing herself?"
Eying the display, Kyoya pushed his glasses up. "She may not look or act like it, but Renette is in the top percent of her class, next to Haruhi actually."
Haruhi crossed her arms at his description. "How do you even know all that?"
Shrugging his shoulders, he answered. "I keep tabs on all the host club members, especially the most interesting ones."
The fact that he basically admitted to stalking them didn't sit well with Haruhi, but she had other things on her mind. "Either way, Kyoya's right. I borrowed her study guide notes once and they were really detailed. You wouldn't get that from the way she acts in class though."
Honey took a big bite of cake and sighed. "I hope Ren-chan is okay. She seemed really stressed the past couple days. Right Takashi?"
Mori just nodded in agreement and everyone could see the worried looks on the twins faces towards the girl. Everyone could tell they really cared for her.
Hikaru put hand to his chin and grumbled. "She's always been like that, pushing herself. I hate it."
Karou just agreed. "Yes but you know how she is, she doesn't give things up that easily. I just wish she'd trust us a bit more."
Hikaru hated to admit it but his brother was right. Whether it be a test, prank or fight, Renette was never one to give up. That was her downfall sometimes.
Narrowing his eyes everyone could see the hurt expression on his face "Me too."
Club time was over soon and after everyone left home, Renette still hadn't woken up from her nap. It seemed cruel to do so as she was so exhausted. They wanted to give her this time.
Finally, she stirred underneath them, rubbing her eyes and speaking halfheartedly. "Hikaru, Karou, where am I?"
She lifted her head from his shoulder as he replied. "Still in the club room. You really were out Renette."
Blinking a couple times, her eyes focused on the sight before her and the very first thing she noticed was Tamaki hiding behind the sofa. "Hey Souh, what are you doing?"
At his name, Tamaki flinched. "Are you back?"
Narrowing her eyes, she looked at him in annoyance. "Is there a screw loose in your brain? What the hell are you talking about?
At the sound of the insult, Tamaki beamed with joy, reaching forward and hugging her in a tight embrace. "Ahh Renette! I missed you!"
Renette gasped at the contact and tried to break away quickly. "Whoa whoa whoa back off Souh. I thought we talked about personal space?"
Once he let go, she started to scratch her head, looking confused. "But why am I here? I don't remember going to school this morning."
Everyone remained silent, Tamaki speaking with uncertainty. "You really don't remember anything that happened?"
Shaking her head, Renette shrugged. "Not really. Everything is a little fuzzy. I get like that though sometimes. Is that the reason you are all looking at me like that?"
All the host club members looked between each other, not wanting to be the one to tell her what she had done a couple hours ago.
Hikaru and Kaoru seemed to have lost the battle, leaning close to her and whispering. "Ahh actually Renette, what happened was…."
They began to whisper the events of the day in her ear and everyone watched as her face grew more and more pale with each sentence.
When they were finished, she laughed nervously and smiled. "Yeah right boys. Good one. There's no way I would do something like that….right?"
But they didn't answer which made her face fall, a red tone now applied to her face. Anyone could tell she was embarrassed. "No way…"
Tamaki decided to have a little fun with her, leaning forward at her question. "I must say Renette, you were rather cute when you fell for my charms."
Renette gasped and raced forward in anger. "Souh, you erase everything that happened from your mind right now, or else I'm gonna come over and smack you to make you forget!"
Backing away slightly, he stuttered. "But hey, you were the one who was flirting with me.."
Bringing her body to a boiling fire, she ran forward and shouted. "That's it, come here so I can induce amnesia."
Tamaki screamed and began running around the club room which a very angry Renette chasing him.
That was until, the phone rang in her pocket.
Stopping what she was doing, Renette grabbed the phone, an unpleasant expression on her face. "You're lucky today Souh. I have other plans."
She started for the door which made the twins overall curious. They never told her about any plans tonight. "Hey, where are you going?"
Renette looked down at the floor for a moment before answering straight forward. "To study. The test is tomorrow. See you guys."
Then, without another word, she left them alone. They supposed studying was normal but they couldn't help but feel that wasn't the whole story.
Haruhi just looked in the direction that she left in question. "She really is serious about school. It's almost inspiring."
Tamaki opened his mouth when another phone rang, this time it being Kyoya's for some reason.
The boy pulled out the object and eyed it curiously. This certainly was odd.
Tamaki looked over his shoulder carefully. "Who is it?"
Lifting the phone up, he answered. "My father."
Everyone watched as he picked it up carefully. "Father, to what do I owe the pleasure?"
Silence echoed for a couple moments until Kyoya hit the end button and closed the object. "What was that all about?"
He walked over the chair and pulled on his purple jacket before grabbing his bag. "He wants me over to observe the Lightwood offer tonight. I'll be going now."
Tamaki beamed at this. "That's great Kyoya! Your father is finally depending on you!"
This did seem great yes, but Kyoya couldn't help but wonder what was the purpose for observing this deal. He supposed it would be nice to meet Renette's father though. The man was very exclusive. "I suppose. Make sure you clean up. I don't want an angry email from the headmaster tomorrow."
Everyone nodded and watched Kyoya go in the same direction Renette went, not thinking anything of it at the time.
When Kyoya reached the restaurant that he was instructed to go to, his father was already seated.
Moving over to him, Kyoya bowed in respect. "Hello father. I have arrived."
He nodded in approval and the boy say himself down before ordering an appetizer and some wine. "If I may ask, why did you ask me to join you tonight?"
His father picked up his glass, taking a sip. "My boy, it is important you learn the way of business deals. Although you will not be running the company, this is still a crucial skill."
Kyoya remained silent but inside he was quietly seething. His father was wrong. He would be the successor to the Ootori Group, one way or another. Maybe he could use this deal to get ahead somehow?
Seeing his compliance, the man pushed a simple folder over to his son to read. "This is all the information of the Lightwood Group. It seems the last three years have been very profitable to them. They changed their tactics and have noticed a 32 percent increase in sales for the fashion world. It's quite impressive to say the least. Adrien is really something."
Adrien Lightwood, he was known as a tycoon in the fashion world, one of the top sellers in his division. He was always rather impressive, but the last three years where something completely different. He really played all his card correctly. Kyoya wondered what kind of man he really was to have such success.
Reading the file, Kyoya answered. "I will do my best to observe then. He seems like a wonderful asset to the company.'
His father put his hand out and the boy gave it back for him to keep. "Yes, I think so as well. Only time will tell though."
Just then, a waitress entered the area before bowing silently. "I'm sorry to interrupt but your guest has arrived Sir."
Then man just smiled at this. "Very well, let him in."
The woman paused for a moment, almost like she was confused, before brushing it off and hurrying away.
Turning the curtain open, they turned to find someone a woman in her late thirties. She was carrying a large black folder with a professional appearance. "Hello, my name is Adele Ainsley and I am the secretary for the Lightwoods. I was asked to observe as well."
Kyoya and his father seemed surprised at this, but not bothered. "Not at all. Please join us. But if I may ask, where is the man of the hour?"
Adele smiled under her breath which Kyoya caught, before lifting her hand out to the door. "Of course. I would like to introduce the head of the Lightwood Group…"
The door opened and a pair of heels clicked across the floor to them. Kyoya turned only to be frozen with absolute shock. It couldn't be….
Bowing slightly, she lifted her green eyes up to the boys and smiled. "Hello, it's very nice to meet you. My name is Renette, the head of the Lightwood group."
Eyyy plot twist! So the reason why Renette was so tired wasn't because of some silly test, but rather because she's got the whole weight of the company on her shoulders, working behind the scenes if you would. Now she doesn't handle the whole company obviously but it's a rather large chunk. And the twins don't know. Oh boy. She does a lot more than she lets on.
