The Hitachiin household was quiet in the early morning. Because it was the weekend, the twins and Renette decided to sleep in.
Their positions were the same as usual, with the boys arms draped across her body in the middle. She was finally able to get some peace and quiet after working overtime on that deal. It certainly was nice.
But, the atmosphere didn't last long as a loud banging could be heard throughout the house. Someone was at the front door and they were being extremely annoying.
Karou flopped his eyes open and looked in the direction before muttering half asleep. "Mmm someone's here."
Hikaru just groaned in response, Renette still not stirring from her sleep. "Just ignore it."
His brother agreed and Hikaru pushed Renette closer to him, snuggling up to her body heat. She just grunted happily and settled in, not feeling bothered by it in the slightest.
The banging stopped and they relaxed until suddenly their door was flung open and a loud obnoxious voice filled the entire room. "Hikaru, Karou, you have to come quick! It's an emergency!"
Karou groaned again, sitting up from his spot and laying his eyes on Tamaki. Of course it would be him. "Mmm what is it boss?"
Dramatically taking a step back, the king cried. "Oh it's just horrible! I had this terrible nightmare that Haruhi was living in absolute poverty. We need to go save her right now!"
The orange haired boy just blinked a few times before deciding he wasn't in the mood for his stupidly and sighed. Then, he turned around and flopped back into the covers. "I'm sure you're just overreacting."
Another voice stirred from under the sheets, this time it being Hikaru. "Yes boss, just go back to bed…"
This response made the King grow cold. How could they not care about his darling daughter, a precious member of their family and the host club? It was unacceptable.
Stomping up to them, he began to try and rip the sheets off of them. "We can't just let my precious Haruhi live in shambles! Come on, let's go! Where's Renette? She must come also."
The twins tried to stop the King from throwing the sheets off, now more afraid about something else. "Boss, keep your voice down!"
Not fully understanding, he didn't listen. "How can I when my precious daughter is in trouble?"
The sheet started to move on their own and the twins just shook their heads, very plainly realizing what Tamaki had just done. "Now you've done it."
Eyeing them with confusion, another voice entered the mix. Tamaki watched as her orange hair popped out from under the sheet, not looking happy in the slightest. "Souh…."
The King blinked in shock, falling backwards at the scene. "R-Renette? What are you doing here?"
She rolled her eyes and sat up, placing a hand to her temple before glaring. "Obviously not sleeping because your annoying ass voice woke me up. Like seriously, what is up with you yelling in my eardrums so damn early?"
Taking one look of her appearance, Tamaki could see that she was wearing a black tank top and matching black and white shorts. Had she really slept here last night? "Why are you with them though? They are practically naked! It's not proper for a young lady."
Renette eyed her own appearance before looking at her friends that were shirtless, not seeing the problem. "They always sleep like like that."
This brought more questions into his mind. He knew that they lived together but how often had they shared the same bed? "That's not the problem! You're a girl and they are shady orange haired devils! You can't just let them drag you in here."
His words brought an air on annoyance to the twins, Karou speaking first. "Hang on, you make it sound like we were kidnapping her."
Hikaru was next, putting her arm around her girls shoulder and pushing her closer. "Yeah, it's not a big deal. We do this all the time, right Renette?."
Nodding her head, she answered. "Yeah, you need to chill Souh. Like Hikaru said, it's not a big deal."
Although Tamaki didn't feel any more at ease. He knew the twins weren't terrible people but something didn't sit right with the fact that she let herself be so defenseless with them all the time.
Everyone noticed the odd silence in the air and Renette decided to break it. "So, other than judging my life choices, why are you here again?"
Tamaki blinked a couple times, snapping back to reality and the reason he came here. He had to force that image of Renette with the twins far from his mind. "Because Haruhi's in trouble! We have to go recuse her."
He explained the dream he had to the three of them before Renette sighed heavily, letting her legs fall off the bed. "Alright fine, I guess I'll come."
Everyone seemed surprised by this, the twins especially. " Really Renette? We'd think you'd put up more of a fight…"
She just stood up and stretched, pointing to Tamaki, defeated. "Listen, I already know how this is going to go. If I argue and complain he's just gonna get louder and then I'll never get back to sleep. So, I give up."
Tamaki lit up at this, raced forward the hugging the living daylights out of her happily. "Ahh thank you Renette!"
Fully aware she was still wearing her tank top, Renette gasped and pulled the King of her, ignoring the creeping blush in her cheeks. "Yeah yeah. I gotta go change. So, let me go Souh."
He understood and stepped back, allowing her to exit the room.
When she was gone, the twins eyed each other before Hikaru spoke. "Huh, that was weird."
Turning back, Tamaki frowned. "What is?"
Karou nodded his head, knowing what his brother meant. "She never goes along with anything that easily."
His brother agreed, standing up from the bed as well, unconsciously looking in the direction she went. Usually she would've been furious that someone woke her up, and maybe he was just imagine it, but it kind of looked like she was having fun just now.
Hikaru left the room to change as well, leaving Kaoru and Tamaki in silence.
Once they were alone, Karou leaned forward, a quiet smile on his face. "You know Boss, I think she's changing because of you."
Turning to look at the boy, Tamaki's eyes widened. "What do you mean?"
Karou brought his leg up to his chest at this, recalling a past memory. "She seems happier. "
Tamaki still didn't understand but couldn't help but watch the expression on his face. He really seemed thankful for something.
But before the King could question it, Karou to jumped off the bed and hurried to the closet to change. "I guess I'll go change also. We'll meet you in a couple minutes Boss."
Nodding his head, Tamaki couldn't help but recall the words Karou had just told him, feeling some sort of unknown weight to them somehow.
He was changing Renette?
A couple hours later, the entire host club was standing in front of Haruhi's apartments. It seemed their presence was quite a stir in the neighborhood, as they had never seen such fancy cars before.
Tamaki turned to the men before pointing. There was a mission at hand. "Alright! Make sure you don't offend Haruhi in anyway by insulting the way she lives! The words shabby and hovel are not allowed."
Everyone saluted, seeming to understand. "Yes sir!"
Seeming happy with this, he smiled. "Good. We don't want to do anything to get kicked out of her place."
Suddenly, another voice entered from the side clearly annoyed. "Well, it's too late for that. Go home already, will you?"
They all turned to find Haruhi carrying a bunch of bags in her hand, a pink dress gracing her body. It seemed like that she just finished shopping.
Tamaki gasped at her harsh tone and ran up to her, trying to make her feel less irritated but overly failing.
The host club moved to speak with her but Renette just held back, yawning slightly. It had been days since she actually was able to sleep and yet here she was instead. Somehow she thought she would never be able to rest, especially with that idiot King around.
Kyoya eyed this and couldn't help but speak out. It had been a couple days since their talk and he had yet to hear anything regarding the deal. "So, what are your plans to convince my father about the deal? He's not the most persuasive person you know."
Taking in his words, he watched as Renette switched tones completely, turning back into the savvy business woman he had just discovered. Erasing any doubt from her eyes, she smirked. "Don't worry, I have it handled."
Although Kyoya was not convinced. "How?"
Renette opened her mouth to speak but was interrupted by the twins calling out to her. It seemed they convinced Haruhi to let them visit.
She stretched her arms out in disinterest before turning back to the boys. "I'm hurt how you don't trust me, Kyoya. You'll see…"
Then just like that, she stopped the conversation and moved back towards the group, Kyoya wondering what her mystery scheme was.
When they reached Haruhi's apartment, she grumbled and turned to the host club. "Okay you get five minutes, and then you'll leave."
Renette laughed to herself knowing that wasn't going to happen but went along with the demand half heartedly.
Opening the door, everyone looked inside and noticed to be quite small, with only two rooms and sliding door separating them. At least it was better then the room Tamaki had described.
Hikaru wasn't impressed though. "What a letdown."
Tamaki's eyes widened and immediately tried to silence him. "Shhh we don't want to offend her, remember?"
The twins seemed to get the point and stopped, everyone walking in and sitting the small table in the corner. "Wow, this place is so cute!"
Haruhi sighed and took out the tea pot. "You really don't have to try so hard to compliment it."
Realizing things were getting worse, he huddled the group together and whispered. "She's right men. We are blowing it! We need to stay calm, like Renette is!"
Now that they mentioned it, Renette just stood there, seemingly unbothered by the whole situation. It was truly an inspiration.
Although Hikaru and Kaoru weren't convinced. "That's not it Boss…"
That was until, Haruhi turned around and was blinded by a large flash in her face. When her eyes refocused, she found Renette staring at her with wide eyes and a camera in her hand. "This is…."
Sighing dramatically, the twins shrugged. "She's just so excited that she's overwhelmed."
Everyone seemed dumbfounded as they watched Renette walking around the small apartment in awe, snapping more pictures. Her expression was one of absolute joy and wonder. "This is...so cool! I never thought I'd see a traditional commoners apartment! This is so fascinating, I have to capture this moment and…"
She stopped when Renette noticed the stares and shoved the camera back in her pocket. Coughing a couple times, she tried to restate. "I mean, it's okay for a commoners house and everything. Nothing that special.
Yet it seemed no one knew how to take her burst of the new personality. It was miles different then she was at the club. Hunni decided to speak out about it. "Wow Ren-chan. I didn't know you liked this kind of thing. It's kinda like Tama-chan!"
Renette face dropped at that, putting her hand out. "Ahh no, it's not like that...I.."
But Tamaki wanted to tease her a bit, bringing his face to one of challenge. "That's not the only thing, She has this book of…."
Racing towards him in one single swoop, Renette reached down and clamped her hand over the Kings mouth to stop his sentence. There was no way they were going to find out such an embarrassing thing from her.
She leaned close to his ear and whispered sharply. "Souh dear, if you tell anyone about that then I will harass you even more than I do now. And trust me, you really don't want that."
Souh's eyes turned to ones of fear, giving out a fake laugh. "Right, never mind, it's nothing. Haruhi, when's that tea going to be ready?"
Haruhi entered the living room before sitting down next to Mori and Hunni. "It will be a couple minutes."
Hunni smiled at this a pulled out a box next to him before placing it on the table. "Then we can eat this while we wait! I brought cake for you Haru-chan!"
Opening the box where a set of little individual cakes, one for every member of the host club. Everyone seemed to be excited about this. "Yay, cake!"
Although Renette didn't have the same feelings towards the object. She looked the cake and instantly, flashs and annoying memories rushed back to her at a quick pace.
Flecks of orange appeared in her vision as far away voices echos back, recalling things she'd like to forget. One remaining sentence remained in her mind. It played like a tape on repeat. Over and over it played, reminding her of those locked away feelings she liked to push so far from her memories. GO AWAY. WE DON'T WANT YOU.
She heard someone calling for her far away and tried to focus of the voice. As it got closer, Renette could make out the words. "Renette?"
Blinking a couple times, she was snapped back into reality, staring back down at the object. "Renette, are you okay?"
She lifted her head back up and pretended to be completely fine, ignoring the slight shake in her hand. "Hmm? Sorry I zoned out a bit. What's up?"
Hunni pushed for a moment before pushing one of the cakes towards her. "I asked if you wanted some?"
Looking down at the object again, a heavy nausea overtook her. "No that's okay. I'm not the biggest fan of cake."
Hunni looked like she had just kicked his dog and gasped. "Why not? What's not to like?"
Sighing to herself, she glanced at the twins who also wore an unreadable expression. They must've notice her being so shaken. It was annoying.
Her voice came out softer then, almost a mumble. "Just, a bad experience I guess."
Everyone took this as her getting sick on the food and left the subject alone, instead switching to an even more uncomfortable one.
Kyoya leaned forward with interest. "How did you get so close with Hikaru and Kaoru anyways?"
Tamaki also seemed rather interested at this. "Yeah, I was wondering that too. The twins were kinda jerks in middle school. It seems weird that they would be close to someone, other than themselves that is."
They expected her to laugh it off, to brush the comment with a joke like she always did, but that wasn't the case.
The air suddenly grew thicker as Renette grasped her tea cup, smiling bitterly. "It does seem weird, doesn't it?"
Not knowing how to take this, her turned to the twins but they looked equally as bothered. Renette supposed she would have to speak since they didn't want to. "Well, the Hitachiin family and mine were close friends and partners when we were younger so, I used to come to Japan to visit them every summer break, along with some holidays. We got to know each other pretty well, I guess."
The atmosphere hasn't let up and everyone felt strangely awkward. So much so, Tamaki tried to light it up. "Well, it's great you've been friends for so long."
Renette looked down at this, remembering something else and smiling sadly. She couldn't even look at the twins, knowing the expression they were probably making right now. "Yeah.."
In the middle of the conversation, Haruhi had checked the fridge and returned, unaware at the air. "Hey, so I checked the fridge and if you really want me to cook, I'm going to have to supermarket again."
Standing up abruptly, Renette cried out. "I'll go!"
Haruhi seemed confused by this. "Renette? You really don't have to. I can go."
Shaking her head, the orange haired girl just smiled, eager to get away from this conversation. "It's fine.I'm getting really hungry anyways and I don't think I can wait anymore."
It seemed Haruhi wasn't able to talk her out this and just watched her leave. When she was gone, Tamaki stood up and began to follow her out. "I'll go with her. It's dangerous to be out alone."
No one objected, not even the twins who seemed oddly quiet about the whole thing. Usually they would be the first to go with her but now, they weren't moving. Something was off.
Renette reached the bottom step of the apartments before leaning against the building and taking a deep breath.
Raising her hand up, she tried to stop the shake that was more appart and grumbled. Come on Renette. Pull it together.
Suddenly a voice entered right next to her ear in question. "Renette, what are you doing?"
Not expecting this, Renette jumped and put her arm to hit the stranger when a familiar head of blonde hair stopped her. "AHH...Souh?"
He grabbed the arm that was raised out to him and noticed the shake, feeling strangely worried. "Hey, are you okay? You're shaking."
Realizing she had messed up, Renette began to laugh, hugging her body in a fake chill. "Ahh sorry. I'm just really cold."
Looking around, he didn't believe her one bit. "Renette, it's summer."
Laughing again, she put a hand up to her forehead. "Really? Well, I must be catching something then."
Souh still seemed bothered by it but decided to let the topic go for now. Although, know he knew it was a certainly a good thing he followed her.
She started to walk away from him, only for Souh to catch up behind. "Why are you here anyways? I thought I said I was going to the store."
Matching his pace with hers, he answered. "I couldn't just let a beautiful woman walk alone on the dark dangerous streets like that. What kind of King would I be if I let that happen?"
Although Renette did not look amused. "A stupid one. Come on, how many times are you going to keep up with those terrible pick up lines before you realize it doesn't work on me, Souh?"
Tamaki just looked hurt by this. "What are you saying? I have to keep up my reputation as the King of the host club. It's only a matter of time, one day, you'll fall for me."
He just watched as she shook her head, a small smile under her breath. "Well good luck with that. I admire your dedication."
Giving him what he wanted, Tamaki gasped, sparking now radiating from every direction. "I know, I am quite dazzling. I knew you'd fall for my charming good looks at some point."
Renette just rolled her eyes but stopped when a stranger bumped into the two of them, causing her to losing her footing. The street were rather crowded.
Falling over, she gasped when Tamaki's strong hands wrapped around her waist, keeping her from tumbling to the ground. "Are you alright?"
His breath blew into her ears and she immediately tried to break away. She couldn't be flustered by him. She couldn't let him win. "Oh, uhh yeah."
Sighing in relief, she looked down at his hand and coughed. "Hey Souh, could you let go?"
He realized his hand and pulled away, that feeling of warmth completely gone. "You should be more careful. It's crowded."
Flipping her hair to the side, Renette just laughed. "Oh please, I think I can manage."
She finished her sentence only to have another person run into her and Tamaki having to save her from falling again.
When the coast was clear Tamaki just sighed to himself. "What am I going to do with you? Come on.."
Then, reaching down he quickly grabbed her hand before setting off again. "W-Wha are you doing? Let go.."
But Tamaki didn't let go, in fact he held on tighter. "Not with you worrying me like that. This way we won't get separated."
She stopped struggling but still felt the overall embarrassment at the fact that Tamaki was now holding her hand.
His palm was slightly warm and large, covering the entirely of her hand.
Renette looked down and couldn't help but blush, hating the fact that she kind of liked the action.
They picked out the groceries on Haruhi's list quickly before heading back just as fast. Tamaki and Renette may have spent more time wandering around the store rather than buying things, but not like she would ever admit that.
Now, staring at his back, Renette couldn't help but remember the warmth of his hand and kind of wanted him to grasp it again. No, that was just stupid.
What was it about this boy that made her feel so at ease? He was an idiot, plain and simple. She shouldn't have enjoyed her time next to him this much.
Letting her voice come out in a soft tone, Tamaki couldn't help but pause. "Hey, Souh?"
He turned around sharply, eying her with concern. "Yes?"
Renette grasped the bags tightly and continued what she was going to say. She could do this. "Can I ask you a question?"
Nodding his head, the King took a step closer. "Of course."
Tamaki watched as her eyes turned to ones of uncertainty, something he had never seen before. It was so vulnerable for her. "Why, did you want to be friends with me?"
Silence echoed and Tamaki replayed the words in his head. Why was she asking this kind of question now, and why did she look so afraid to ask it in the first place?
Letting his bangs fall onto his face, he had his answer immediately. "Because I like you. I like how excited you are when you see something that interests you,or how kind you are when no one is looking. I like how you can become flustered by the littlest things but ready to put your life on the line and stand up for anyone when it matters. You are amazing Renette. That's why you are my precious family member and friend."
She took in his words for a moment and couldn't help but blush, the familiar heat filling her cheeks once more. She had asked this question a numerous amount of time but had never been given an answer like that.
The fact that he caught every mannerism of hers and everything thing she's done made her even more embarrassed. He was supposed to be an idiot, since when had he noticed this much?
It became so much, that Renette didn't know how to process it and started rambling. "W-Wha you can't just say something like that! I mean I guess you can but, you really should have, I mean seriously, what is up with you, I mean how can you just…"
Tamaki took in her ramblings at couldn't help but laugh at her attitude. This is the most he had ever seen her flustered and he couldn't deny she looked really adorable like this.
She saw him laugh and hit him in the shoulder, trying to get him to stop. "Hey, don't laugh at me! It's your fault for saying something weird."
Wiping a tear from his eye, Tamaki calmed down enough to explain. "No, I'm not laughing at you. I was just thinking that my friend is really cute."
Renette felt even more heat rise up as she slapped him on the shoulder once more. "S-Stop it! You're doing it on purpose now."
He laughed even more and Renette just grumbled with displeasure.
Tamaki smiled but stopped when she turned away, saying something else but choosing to not show her face for some reason. "You're not too bad yourself, a friend that is."
Widening his eyes, he tried to process her words. Had she just called him a friend? "What did you just say?"
Turning around slightly, he noticed her flustered face and a small smile. It was just like the one he had seen at school a couple days ago. "I'm glad you're my friend too, Tamaki."
At the sound of his first name enter his ears, Tamaki's own face flushed with embarrassment. Those other times before were on accident but this one, she meant to say it this time. It was overwhelming.
They both stopped though when even more voices entered the group. "There they are!"
The two turned to find the rest of the host club running up to them, Hikaru and Kaoru looking especially worried. "Hey boys, what's up?"
Haruhi pointed to the clock beside them and answers. "You've been out a really long time so everyone was getting worried about you two. Are you okay?"
Next was Hikaru, playing the role of the anxious parent. "Yeah Renette, would it have killed you to pick up the phone and at least called us?"
Looking down at her phone she never realized that was an option. She supposed she was just enjoying Souh's company a little too much. "Ahh sorry boys. We kinda got caught up at the commoners supermarket."
They shook their heads but now that she was okay, they were a little less tense. Although it seemed that the twins were hesitant to approach the girl now for some reason.
She put a hand on Hikaru's arm lighty and noticed the unhappy expression on his face. Squeezing it carefully, she whispered. "Hey, I'm okay now."
He closed his eyes and laid his own hand on hers before grasping it. Somehow this seemed more then just about being late but no one wanted to question it.
Instead, she just lifted the bags up in her arms and cried out. "Now, who's ready for a stew pot party?"
They all raised their hand and followed Renette back to the apartment where she helped Haruhi cook. It seemed to be like a secret talent of hers.
Placing the food on the table, she settled in between Tamaki and Hikaru before smiling. Somehow, she felt comfortable here.
Okay so this chapter was just filled with fluff. Tamaki and Renette fluff that is, along with setting up for some major plot points that will show up soon. They are starting to draw closer. Oooooh
Next chapter: Renette defends her boy and Kyoya figures out what she meant by having the deal under control.
