The Invincible Spider-Man
Chapter 40: Whatever It Takes
Peter was frozen in disbelief, like a deer in the headlights. Almost every single detail about Peter was scribbled onto that wall, courtesy of Otto Octavius. Hesitantly, Peter called up Gwen.
"Gwen! It's Otto, he's gone over the edge. He's kept tabs of my weaknesses, and how to exploit them. He's been analyzing my tactics, my fighting style, everything!" said Peter, worriedly.
"Wait, what? You have to get out of there!" replied Gwen.
"Not yet. I need more evidence, and if he does show up, then I'll be more than happy to talk to him, and hopefully get an explanation," replied Peter, although he was scared. He hung up, and started to look around the place. He walked up to Otto's desk, where he found the inhibitor chip, crushed to pieces. The computer had been smashed, and a lot of notes were torn up. But, one address was circled.
"The Upper West Side, Fisk Construction! That's Rose's hideout. Otto must've gone to stop Rose by himself! He's in serious danger, I've got to go help him," thought Spider-Man frantically, as he shot out two webs and slingshotted himself out of the lab, before shooting a web from his right hand and doing a side flip, falling back into a dive. The Upper West Side wasn't very far, and Peter shot another web, swinging upside down before letting go and running alongside a building's wall. He then did a double backflip off of the wall and continued swinging, still in awe of how free he felt in the new suit.
Spider-Man perched himself on a nearby crane and observed the first floor of the construction site. There were mercenaries, carrying crates of weapons around the place.
"No sign of Doc…or Rose, for that matter. Bet these guys will know something," thought Peter, as he zipped closer to the construction site, before shooting a web and landing on one of the goons.
"So this is where the cool kids hang out!" shouted Spider-Man, before kicking another goon in the chest, and taking away his guns. "Kids, it's not "cool" to use such dangerous items during recess!" he continued, punching a goon in the chest, before webbing them up and throwing them in the direction of another thug.
About ten more people came in, all with guns. Spider-Man quickly webbed the muzzle of two guns, before flipping out of the way and dodging more bullets.
"Guys, guys! For a second there I actually thought you were trying to kill me!" quipped Peter, as he slid under one goon and made him trip on a web, before kicking an assault rifle out of one thug's hand, and kneeing another one in the face.
"Alright look, I'm getting bored, so just tell me where Rose is, and where he's keeping Doctor Octopus and mayyyyyybe I'll spare a couple of bones in your body?" asked Peter, all while dodging a knife. He webbed the knife out of the person's hand and spin kicked him, before flipping over a person, webbing their back and pulling them down.
One by one, all of them had been taken down.
"Well boys, recess is over," said Spider-Man, before he heard a clapping sound from behind him. Rose was without his purple mask, sarcastically chuckling. "I knew you would find me eventually, but I'll have you know that my business in New York is almost done," informed Rose.
"File it under the unfinished business category, because I'm taking you in, Fisk." Said Peter, sternly as he readied his fists.
"Not until my father knows who I've become. And a new suit may stop me from fighting you…but what about him?" asked Rose, pointing above Spider-Man. Peter turned and his senses kicked into overdrive, but they were too late as a large mechanical tentacle slammed into him and sent him flying into a concrete wall.
Doctor Octopus lowered himself on the floor, expanding all four tentacles, two of which fixed themselves on the ground. Peter got up, stunned as he saw Otto standing Rose.
"Doctor Octavius?" he asked, but Otto swung another arm at him, which Peter managed to dodge with the breadth of a hair.
"Doc Ock," said Otto, menacingly as he slashed two of his arms at an insane speed, and Peter wasn't able to dodge them all the time. He got hit by one of them and was knocked towards the right, before another tentacle hit him towards the left. Before Peter could even get up, a tentacle slammed onto his back, before lifting him up and slamming him into a wall.
The tentacles then let go of Peter, who slumped onto the ground. Rose walked up to him. "If he knows what's good for him, then he won't interfere," he said.
"I think we both know he's not going to stop," replied Ock, as he moved away. "You know the plan?" he asked.
"Yeah. Don't mess it up, Octavius," said Rose.
Otto scaled down the building, and Rose walked up to Spider-Man.
"Stay out of our way, kid," said Rose, before leaving.
Peter came to after a few hours, every part of him in pain.
"Pretty sure that's two ribs…ouch…" groaned Peter, as he realized what the time was.
"11 am! Oh man, there's no way they're letting into school now. Better notify Gwen…" thought Peter, as he quickly texted Gwen. He pocketed his phone and limped around the place, trying to find any evidence.
"Place is scrubbed clean. Shit," cursed Spider-Man, as he sat down on a ledge.
"Goddammit it. Why, Doctor Octavius? Why is he working with Rose of all people, and why is he against New York. It has to be the neural interface affecting him. How do I stop him-wait!" Peter struck up on an idea, as he called up The Tinkerer.
"Phineas, I need your help again," said Peter.
"Of course, what's wrong?"
"You've heard of Doctor Octopus?"
"Yeah, he's that guy on tv, right?"
"Precisely. I need to find a way to disable those mechanical arms. Could you whip up maybe a jammer, or something?"
"I could, but the problem is that it's Oscorp Technology, which is very hard to replicate, unless I get a sample of the tech," replied Tinkerer.
"I think I could help with that…" finished Peter, as he left the construction site.
Changing into his civilian clothes, Peter entered Oscorp and walked up to the receptionist.
"Felicity, is it?" he asked. The receptionist rolled her eyes in sarcasm.
"Felicia. You're…Parker, right?" she asked, pointing her pen towards him.
"Yeah. I need to talk to Mr Smythe," said Peter, as Felicia dialed up Alistair.
"Okay. You can go see him in 5 minutes, Mr Parker," said Felicia, as she smiled causing Peter to slightly blush, as he walked towards the elevator and went up to Alistair Smythe's office. Peter walked up to the door and knocked.
"Come in!" said Smythe, as Peter opened the door. Alistair was in a wheelchair, which seemed extremely advanced.
"Good morning, Mr Smythe," said Peter, as he took a seat.
"Good morning to you too, Mr Parker. So, to what do I owe the pleasure?" asked Smythe.
"I don't know how to say this, but I have a school science fair coming up, and I wanted to do a presentation on Oscorp, and how their technology is revolutionizing the world. And um, I was hoping if I could, borrow a piece of tech to showcase Oscorp's bounds in terms of advancements in technology," explained Peter.
"Hmm…I could allow it, but I've been saving up resources for a special announcement. Although I don't see the harm in giving a small piece of tech for a presentation, as long as you bring it back unscathed?" said Alistair.
"Oh yeah, of course!" said Peter. Smythe wheeled out from behind his desk, and asked Peter to follow him out of the office. They went into the elevator, and went up to the 125th floor, which was strictly for staff.
"Uh, Mr Smythe, I don't think I should be up here," said Peter.
"Oh don't worry, I'll wheel myself into the lab and get what you need," said Alistair, as he scanned his palm on a scanner, and the door opened up. Alistair wheeled himself in, and Peter's curiosity got the better of him, as he tried to peek through before the door closed. All he saw was a large, silver robot, kind of like a pseudo-Iron Man suit.
"What is that? Looks like that security robot Smythe had built when Rose's men stormed the place, only much more advanced…" thought Peter. After about two minutes, Smythe exited the room, holding a small, futuristic looking piece of armor.
"This is an early prototype of Oscorp Technology, which has now been upgraded for military armor," explained Smythe, as he handed it to Peter.
"Thanks! I'll get this back in two weeks, definitely!" guaranteed Peter, as he and Smythe entered the elevator again.
Rose had a map on a table, while Otto was working on his arms, which had sustained some damage.
"Okay. Now, today is what everything is building up to. I successfully brought down New York in a few months, something my father could never do," said Rose to himself.
"Why do you need me then?" asked Otto.
"You came to me saying you wanted revenge on this city, particularly Spider-Man. You, Otto, are going to play an important role in my plan. I need you to come with me" said Rose.
"Where are we going?" asked Otto.
Rose hid two knives in the inside of his jacket, as he put on his purple gloves and mask.
"Ryker's Island," replied Rose, cocking a handgun.
"Hmm…it'll take me a while, probably a couple of hours, but I should be able to create an interface jammer," said Tinkerer, as he worked on the sample piece of technology from Oscorp. "Also I took the liberty of adding a bit of a software update to your mask. You can now call anyone through in built comms.
"Thanks! Now I don't need to be worried about dropping my phone every five seconds. And just make sure the jammer works," replied Spider-Man. All of a sudden, he heard two or three police helicopters flying overhead, towards the East, towards Ryker's Island. Spider-Man leaped out of the skylight and swung to high ground, immediately calling up Jean.
"Captain, what's going on?" asked Spider-Man, as he leaped off of the building and shot a web towards a helicopter, swinging off from under it.
"Breakout at Ryker's. Witnesses place Otto Octavius at the scene. He's helping right?" asked Jean.
"Not anymore. It's a lot to explain, I'll tell you everything later!" finished Spider-Man, as he headed to Ryker's and noticed mercenaries on the rooftop. They had bazookas in their hands.
"Oh no you don't!" said Spider-Man, as he landed on one of them, knocking them out instantly. He then kicked a bazooka out of one criminal's hand, before webbing up another and punching them out. He then flipped over one of them while webbing their head, and pulling them down to the ground as he landed. He slid under one's legs and webbed up his legs before landing on his head.
"My Spider-Sense…SHIT!" exclaimed Peter, as he backflipped above a rocket propelled grenade that was shot from behind him. Peter backflipped over it, as he shot a web at the grenade, and pulled it back. Thanks to the lost velocity when Peter pulled, the grenade hit a wall with a minimal explosion.
"This isn't the Purge, you know?" said Peter, as he yanked the rocket launcher from the thug's arms and threw it back at him.
That's when noticed three black cars recklessly making their way to Ryker's via a bridge. Spider-Man quickly swung to the bridge and landed on one of the cars.
"Driver's license?" asked Spider-Man, as he webbed up the tires, halting the car before jumping off of it and shooting two webs at both the other cars respectively, causing them to stop. He was about to start webbing them up, when he noticed Otto on one of the towers of Ryker's Prison.
"Jean, I've got a few chumps on the bridge that leads to Ryker's. Send your men after them, I'm going after Octavius!" said Peter through his in-built comms as he swung towards the tower, and towards Otto.
"DOCTOR OCTAVIUS!" shouted Peter, as he landed behind him. Otto looked back at him and scowled. "I warned you Parker, stay out of our way!" said Doc Ock.
"Otto please! Why are you doing this?" he asked. Otto frowned more.
"You wouldn't understand, Peter. This city robbed me of my genius. I got fired from Oscorp by Osborn, discarded like a worn puppet, and made to work as a teacher! Then when I finally have my breakthrough, you and that Scorpion degenerate decided to have a tussle IN MY LAB! DESTROYING MY LIFE'S WORK!" yelled Otto. Peter didn't want to show it, but he was scared.
"You don't have to do this just to spite New York. The whole city has done nothing to you!"
"Out of all people I thought you would understand! For over 10 years you were picked on by other students, and when you finally got the power to put them in place, you foolishly didn't! That's the difference between you and I: I have some semblance of common sense and I know I am superior! Whereas you risk your life to save a city of nameless nobodies out of some misplaced sense of self-righteousness!" spat out Otto.
"Otto, you know that's not true. You know I don't do this because I want to. And you don't want to do this either! You're still my science teacher, who I looked up to since the 5th grade! Please doctor, you don't have to exact vengeance on the entire city!" pleaded Peter.
"It's not about vengeance, it's about superiority. This city pushed me around, it's time I show them what I can do when I have great power. Luckily enough, I don't have the memory of a dead uncle and a dead police captain weighing on my conscience!" replied Doc Ock.
That was enough for Peter, as he lunged at Otto, and both tumbled off of the tower. However, Otto kicked Peter away. Otto stuck two of his arms onto the wall and climbed away.
As Peter fell, he felt something underneath his armpits, something sewn into the suit. He quickly extended his arms, and a pair of web wings were released. Peter's fall was slowed down, as he was surprised by this revelation himself.
"Thanks, Phineas," thought Peter, as he started to glide to the ground.
As he landed, he started to think. "Why would Rose and Otto attack Ryker's? WAIT!" an epiphany hit Peter.
"Rose said he wanted Wilson to know what he had become. Shit, he's heading to Maximum Security!" thought Peter, as he swung towards the Maximum Security gate, kicking down the gate and plowing himself through the semi-blasted door. Luckily, the supervillains seemed to be in their cells. Rose hadn't let them out.
Shocker, Vulture, Electro and everyone else started to laugh as Peter sprinted down the hallway to the interrogation room, where he noticed Rose walk in, dragging Fisk.
Wilson was handcuffed to the chair, as Rose pointed a handgun at him. "Surprised yet, dad?" asked Rose. Fisk scoffed.
"Hardly. I already knew what you were up to. William made sure he told me everything," replied Fisk, calmly.
Spider-Man rushed into the interrogation room, as Rose pulled out a second handgun, aiming it at Peter.
"Enough, Richard!" said Spider-Man, as he looked back at Wilson with disdain.
"Who knew we'd find ourselves in this situation three years back, huh Spider-Man?" asked Wilson. Rose cocked the handgun at Wilson's face.
"You see dad, when you sent me to Switzerland, I was spiteful. I found out what you were up to when I was 10, when William told me everything about you, and how it was YOU who got mother killed!" accused Rose. Wilson scowled.
"I never got your mother killed. She went snooping into Silvermane's hideout, interfering in my business!" replied Fisk.
"Shut up! If it wasn't for your, "perfectly legitimate businesses" this never would've happened! We could've been a normal family! We could've been living a normal life! With mom!" shouted Rose, tears beginning to form in his eyes. Wilson scoffed and chuckled.
"Listen to yourself, Richard! You're acting delusional, living in this…amazing fantasy! Your mom is dead, and I sent you away to spare you the pain! But it seems to have done more harm than good, as my son now lets emotion cloud his judgment," said Wilson condescendingly.
Richard pushed the handgun to Wilson's face, ready to pull the trigger.
Just as he was about to pull the trigger, Peter shot a web which pushed the gun out of Rose's hand. "Sorry to interrupt the family reunion, but we-"
Rose pulled the trigger, shooting Spider-Man in his chest. However, the bullet lightly bounced off.
"How about that?" asked Peter, as he pulled the gun out of Richard's hand, and slammed him onto the interrogation table, webbing him up. But, Richard took out his dual knives, slicing the webbing and lunging at Spider-Man.
Peter dodged the knives and ran out of the interrogation room. Rose grabbed Peter and threw him to Sandman's cell. Luckily, the glass didn't break.
Spider-Man webbed up Rose and kicked him away. However, Rose's armour was made from the same material used in Rhino's armor, and hence his kick didn't do much.
"I'm sick of you interfering in my plans!" shouted Rose, as he threw the knives to Peter. One struck Peter's shoulder while the other lodged in his hip. Places where Peter's armor was weakest.
"AGHHHHH!" he yelled out, as Rose spin kicked him across the face, and kneeing him in the back, before elbowing him in his chest and slamming down on his neck.
Peter fell on his stomach, as Rose pointed a gun at Peter's head.
"You may have beaten my father, but you can't beat me," said Rose, panting.
"I guess…you're an idiot, like your father before you!" groaned Peter, as he kicked Rose in the shin, and out of nowhere, Wilson Fisk came charging at Rose, slamming him away. Wilson then helped Peter get up.
"Well, look who had a change of heart," said Peter, as he pulled the knives out and webbed up his wounds, gritting his teeth.
"The enemy of my enemy is my friend," said Fisk, as he clenched his fists, standing alongside Spider-Man, ready to take down Rose.
Richard groaned as he charged at his father. However, Spider-Man webbed his legs, causing him to trip, as Wilson grabbed Rose and slammed him into a nearby wall, before throwing him across the room. As Richard flew across the room, Peter spin-kicked Rose, knocking him out. Spider-Man quickly webbed up Rose to a wall.
"Alright, what's the deal?" asked Peter, looking at Fisk, who shrugged.
"Nothing from you,"
"Come on, with the Kingpin it's never easy. Wait, what do you mean not from "me?"" asked Peter.
"After this, my chances of parole would drastically increase, wouldn't they?" smirked Fisk.
"So Big Willie becomes Free Willie?" asked Peter sarcastically, as Fisk nodded.
"Oh well, see you around, Big Willie!" said Peter, as he swung away.
Spider-Man managed to reach another rooftop, as he called up Jean DeWolff.
"Jean, Rose is down! That leaves Doctor Octavius. He believes the world treated him cruelly, and now he wants revenge. Gotta say, I don't blame him," explained Peter.
"Oh man. I'll keep an eye out," said Jean. "And thanks for taking down Rose," said Jean, as she cut the call. Spider-Man sighed.
"Doctor Octavius…why?" he asked, wincing as he held his knife wound on his hip. He refilled his web shooters and then called up Phineas.
"Phineas hey, you never told me you had installed… "Web Wings!"" chuckled Peter.
"I wanted it to be a surprise. It can help you glide over short distances," explained Phineas. Just as Peter was about to respond, his police scanner went off.
"All units, Otto Octavius has been spotted at Times Square, please proceed with caution," said the police officer.
"Phineas, I gotta go!" said Spider-Man, as he cut the call and rushed to Times Square. "There's got to be some way to convince Otto to stop!" thought Peter, as he swung to Times Square.
Otto was standing on the red stairs, all 4 of his arms hoisting him high up, as cops cleared the place, training their guns on Otto.
"DON'T SHOOT!" shouted Spider-Man as he landed in front of Otto.
"Doctor please, just listen to me! You don't have to do this!" begged Spider-Man. Doctor Octopus snickered.
"Spider-Man…always so desperate to see the good in people, hoping that there is still some iota of generosity in them. This city would've known my genius, had it not been for such a series of unfortunate events. But now I realize, that accident just made me powerful and now, I can guarantee you that the whole world will know the genius of Doctor Octopus!" shouted Ock, as he lashed out two arms at the police cars, slamming them away.
Peter shot a web and wrapped it around one arm, however Otto retracted the arm causing Peter to be violently pulled towards Otto. As he was pulled towards him, another tentacle grabbed Peter and threw him into a nearby building.
Before Peter could even get up, Otto grabbed him and slammed him into the pavement. Luckily, Peter shot a web and quickly pulled himself out of the way. Spider-Man jumped up to a Times Square billboard, followed by Ock.
"Just give up, Spider-Man!" shouted Otto, lashing two tentacles, one of which hit Peter straight in the face. Spider-Man fell down to the ground.
Before Spider-Man could get up, Ock climbed over the billboard and used his arms to pull the board off, dropping it on Spider-Man. "I warned you Peter," he said lightly.
All of a sudden, he heard someone groaning. Ock jumped down, only to see Spider-Man holding the billboard up.
"This…isn't…you!" shouted Spider-Man, as he lifted the billboard off of him and jumped out of the way, shooting a web at Otto's face and kicking him in the chest. He then slid under Otto and tied up two of his arms which were hoisting Otto up, and pulled hard.
Otto fell to the ground, but just as Peter was about to we him up, another tentacle grabbed Spider-Man. As Otto got to his knees, the tentacle grabbing Spider-Man slammed him to the ground, before throwing him in the air. Whilst Peter was in mid-air, another tentacle struck him at breakneck speed, slamming his back into a wall, holding him tightly.
Spider-Man tried struggling, as Otto brought himself closer to him.
"I'm sorry Peter, but I told you so many times to not interfere in my plans. You may have taken down Richard, but he was anyways incompetent, fueled by his emotion instead of his ambition!" said Ock, as he threw Peter into another building, slamming him face first into the wall, before lifting him in the air and slamming him down to the ground.
Spider-Man lay motionless, as Otto walked away. He knew where he was going, the place all of this started.
Peter tried getting up, but he couldn't get himself to do so.
"Legs broken?" he thought weakly, but he could move his legs. Yet, he didn't have the strength in him to stand up.
That's when two people walked up to him, and lifted him by the arms. Six more civilians came, helping him stand up. Peter stood up again, but as he tried to walk he stumbled. However, the people held him up again, until he could walk.
"Don't worry, Spider-Man. We know you can stop him," said one of them. Peter nodded weakly as he managed to shoot a web and somehow pulled himself up.
"You got this man!" said another one.
"Kick his ass!" shouted another.
"Go get em!" shouted another civilian.
Peter weakly smiled to himself, as he swung away, tears welling up in his eyes.
Gwen was busy studying, when all of a sudden she heard something slam against her window. Jumping out of her seat, she noticed a bruised and bloody Peter, holding his mask in his hands. Gwen had never seen him like this.
"Peter! Oh my God what happened!" she shouted in disbelief, as she quickly let him in. Peter fell to his knees, sobbing.
"I can't stop him…Otto, I…I failed him…" said Peter, breathing heavily.
"Peter you didn't fail him, you didn't fail anyone!" she protested.
"If it wasn't for my help… I helped him create those tentacles, I helped him become that monster!" continued Peter.
"The person who did this to you…that's not Otto Octavius. Not the Otto you've looked up to since forever, and certainly not the Otto who taught you throughout high school," replied Gwen.
"I don't want to hurt him, Gwen. I can't…this is all my fault. Everything happening! Tombstone sent Scorpion to come after me, and that's what caused Otto's accident. Your father getting killed by Green Goblin was my fault! What happened to Uncle Ben was my fault!" sobbed Peter, clenching his mask, as if he wanted to tear it apart.
Gwen paused for a moment.
"I remember…someone once told me…the worst thing you can do is blame yourself. If you blame yourself, you're not gonna help anyone, especially yourself," said Gwen, directly quoting Peter. "Blaming yourself for what's happened to Otto isn't going to save the city. I know for a fact, that the real Otto Octavius is still in there, and only you can bring him out. You have to do this Peter, whatever it takes," she continued.
"What if he's right? That the old Otto Octavius isn't there anymore?" asked Peter.
"Then you know what you have to do," said Gwen, remorsefully as Peter nodded. "Thanks Gwen," he said weakly, as he hugged her.
"I love you Peter. And I know for a fact that New York does too." she said, as she kissed him on his forehead.
"Love you too," said Peter, as he put on his mask and jumped out of the window, ready to do whatever it takes to bring back Otto. But first, he stopped by Tinkerer's lab.
"Phineas, is it ready yet?" asked Peter, as Tinkerer smiled, handing him the jammer.
"Good luck," he said, as Spider-Man jumped out of the skylight.
Doc Ock had was climbing up Oscorp Tower, when a police helicopter shined a spotlight on him.
"Doctor Octavius! Freeze and desist immediately!" said Jean, through a megaphone. Otto pulled out a chunk of concrete from the tall tower, and threw it at the helicopter. It hit the chopper violently, causing it to spin uncontrollably.
"Mayday, Mayday! We are going down!" said the pilot, as he tried to regain control of the helicopter, which was spinning as it fell to the ground. All of a sudden, two webs attached themselves to the side of the helicopter just before it hit the ground.
Spider-Man was on the side of a building as he held on to the webs, preventing the helicopter from hitting the ground. The helicopter was barely a few inches off of the ground, and Jean and the pilot jumped off quickly.
Spider-Man let go off the helicopter and raced up Oscorp Tower, whilst the crowd cheered.
Otto continued ascending the tower, before a web latched onto his back.
"Goddammit," he muttered, as he turned around to see Spider-Man. Two of his tentacles had lodged themselves into the wall of the tower, hoisting him up. "How many times do I have to do this?" he asked Peter, extending a tentacle, which Peter barley dodged.
"Doc, listen to me! You need to stop this, it's the neural interface affecting you! Just let me save you," said Peter, with the jammer in one of the cartridges in his belt.
"What do you mean, "save me?" You're a failure, Parker! Everything you do gets someone hurt or killed. You stopped Wilson Fisk, but in the process Queens was almost destroyed! You stopped Norman, at the expense of Mendel Stromm's life and Captain Stacy's life, destroying Gwen's family! You "cured" Curt, only to throw him into rehab, ruining his life with his family! Even Adrian Toomes was a victim driven to desperation, but you didn't listen, did you?" spat out Ock. "And with all the power you have, you still refuse to fix your own life? You could've made some money with your job and save your Aunt from crushing debt! But no, you let that stupid "Great Responsibility" motto blind you with a fog of lies, courtesy of your dead uncle!" he continued.
Peter clenched his fists, as he lunged at Otto, slamming him into the wall, and punching him twice across the jaw. However, one of the tentacles pulled Peter off and slammed him into the wall beside Otto. Peter quickly struggled and got out of the tentacle's clutches. Another tentacle smacked Peter across the face, sending him tumbling down the side, as Ock went to the top of Oscorp Tower, and towards the helipad.
Spider-Man quickly shot two webs and catapulted himself to the top, landing right in front of Otto.
"What are you trying to accomplish here?! That you're superior to New York? That the world never should've messed with you?"
"THE WORLD TREATED ME LIKE I'M A PIECE OF PLASTIC ON THE STREET! Out of all people you should understand!" said Ock, as he aimed all 4 of his tentacles towards Peter at a lightning fast speed.
One slammed into Peter's chest, lifting him and slamming his back to the floor. Another one latched itself onto Peter's face, slamming him again headfirst into the floor.
It then let go off his head, and grabbed his right arm with a sickening crunch, as the 4th tentacle grabbed his left wrist and lifted him up.
The tentacle around Peter's chest let go, as it ripped off his mask, revealing a half-unconscious Peter.
"I'm sorry to do this Peter, for you had so much potential. You could've been a superior student, a superior scientist, a superior Spider-Man. But you chose to waste all of it, to be nothing but mediocre," said Otto, as the tentacle extended itself and lodged one of its claws straight into Peter's left shoulder.
"AAAAGHHHH!" he yelled out, as Otto threw him back to the floor, violently pulling out the tentacle.
Peter lay motionless on the floor, as his torn mask lay next to him. He stared at the lenses of his mask, and remembered what he stood for.
"The difference between you and me, Peter, is that I am not afraid to take the hardest path, and brave the difficulties that lie ahead.
Peter grabbed the mask and got to his feet, clutching his right arm, which was definitely broken.
"No, Octavius. The difference…between you and me is that…when the world treated me like I was nothing…I didn't use it as an excuse to hurt others. I didn't lose myself…in all that anger…I let it go…" said Peter, as he put on his mask and got out the jammer.
"I'm sorry to do this…" said Spider-Man, as he rushed at Otto, who extended three tentacles towards him. Peter side-flipped over one of them before webbing it to the ground, before grabbing the second one and slamming it straight into the third tentacle, webbing both of them up. He jumped onto Otto's back and was ready to place the jammer on the neural interface, but the 4th tentacle grabbed him and pulled him off.
Otto brought Peter in front of him, and noticed the jammer in his hand.
"An interface jammer? That's your big plan to stop me?" laughed Ock, sarcastically. "Honestly Peter, I thought you were smart-"
Before Otto could finish, Peter shot a web at his face, before grabbing the tentacle holding him. He then kicked himself off of Otto's chest, pulling the tentacle with him. In one swift motion, he ripped out half of the tentacle.
With the other three stuck under loads of webbing, Peter jumped up behind Otto and stuck the jammer on the interface.
"NOOOO!" shouted Otto, as he tried reaching for the jammer with his normal arms, but Peter grabbed both of them.
The red light that emanated from the grooves in the arms died out, as all 3 of them fell limp. Peter then jumped behind Otto, and ripped out the harness from behind him.
Otto fell to his knees, as Peter walked up in front of him.
"Peter…I'm…sorry…" said Otto, as he reached for Peter's hand, but Peter pulled away.
"Please Peter…the arms…I need them…" he whimpered, as Peter looked at him in disgust.
"Otto…after everything that interface did to you…you still want them?"
"You haven't been through what I have, Peter…if you had, then you'd feel the same way as me…it's my life's work…" continued Otto.
"Otto…you have to let it go…the fact that you still want those things, even after they destroyed you…" said Peter, tears falling from his eyes.
"No Peter, no…this won't happen again, trust me! You trust me right?" asked Otto, with a pitiful smile on his face.
"No." said Peter, looking straight through Otto's deception. The smile disappeared from Otto's face.
"Dammit, Parker! You would never understand! This city needs to get what's coming to it. It will get what's coming to it!" shouted Otto.
"Not while I'm alive…" said Peter, as he walked away, leaving Otto on his knees.
3 WEEKS LATER
"Otto Octavius, or now going by the name, "Doctor Octopus" has been deemed guilty by the jury and has been transferred to Ryker's Island. Meanwhile, his accomplice, Richard Fisk, also known as Rose has been sent back to Switzerland where he will face justice for his terrorist actions. His men have almost been rounded up by the NYPD, and local hero Spider-Man, who witnesses say was responsible for the capture of both. Although reports also state that Wilson Fisk was also involved in Rose's arrest, however that is still under scrutiny," said the reporter, as Peter watched the news on his phone as he headed to school.
Gwen, Harry, Flash, Liz, MJ and Hobie were all waiting for Peter near his locker.
"Hey tiger. Looks like the cast is gone?" she said, pointing at Peter's right arm.
"Yeah…apparently it wasn't even that bad of a fracture, so it healed quick," lied Peter. "So, what's the big occasion?" he asked.
"Well…Harry got into Oxford!" said Liz, holding Harry's hand.
"No way! Dude that's awesome! So, you're moving to the UK?" asked Hobie, as Harry nodded.
"We'll miss you man! Anyways graduation is still a month away," said Peter. "Also, I got into ESU!" he said, ecstatically.
"No way, me too!" said MJ, high-fiving Peter.
"Gwen, Hobie and I got into Columbia University," said Liz, and all of them looked at Flash.
"I…enrolled into the Military Academy," said Flash.
"What about football? Isn't that like your dream?" asked Peter.
"It was, but then something hit me. Why do football, when I could actually make a difference. Look at Spider-Man, the guy risks his life to do good, and I wonder…why can't I do the same? Honestly, after how much he's done, I think Spider-Man's a hero," said Flash.
"Somebody's got a man-crush…" sang Harry, while everyone chuckled, as Peter smiled to himself.
"One month more guys. I'll miss y'all," said Harry. "You especially, Pete," said Harry.
"Alright don't get all emotional on me now!" replied Peter, as everyone chuckled.
The cafeteria at Ryker's was full of inmates, as Max Dillon took his usual seat next to Mac Gargan. Both of them were watching the small television that was on the cafeteria wall.
"Spider-Man once again saves the city, and New Yorkers may finally be okay with the Wall-Crawler patrolling the streets. However, J Jonah Jameson is still very vocal against the hero," said the reporter.
"Piece of shit. Cuz of him we're rotting in here…" lamented Max, while Mac grunted. Just then, Quentin Beck came and sat next to Max.
"He asked you here too?" asked Beck, while Max was clueless. "Who?" he asked.
Just then, Adrian and Flint walked up to them too. "What're you idiots doing here?" asked Flint, while Mac shrugged.
"That new guy called us here. Said something about killing Spider-Freak," said Quentin.
"Gentlemen! I assume you are confused of why I have called you here?" said a voice, and standing behind them was Otto Octavius, as he walked up to them.
"What does the newbie want?" asked Mac, looking at the others.
"No matter our differences, we all share something common: Our hatred for Spider-Man," said Otto.
"And what's your point?" asked Adrian.
"He beat us all one by one…but what about all of us…together," proposed Otto, with a sinister smile as he stared at the six of them.
AND THERE WE GO! Season 3 is officially complete. I think you guess who the main villain(s) are for Season 4! The next season is going to be filled to the brim, and will hopefully begin sometime in Mid-Jan (although I do have exams from 18th Jan, so my upload schedule may be a little erratic). In other news, Merry Belated Christmas and Happy New Year in advance everyone! 2020 was a really shit year for me, and there were many lows, but writing this story was one of the highest highs this year, and I can't thank all of you enough for sticking with the story. I never would've dreamed of having such a large following when I first started out this March. Alright I'm getting kinda emotional writing this so I'll just wrap it up! Stay safe everyone and Happy Holidays!
Yours Truly,
Shadow Strike.
"Wait what, I missed it! Oh what the Hell, Shadow Strike you couldn't tell me? Oh, hello everyone reading this. My name is…well you can probably guess who I am, but just a hint…I'm the guy who Marvel practically lives off of. And the fact that I can talk to you straight through your screens should let you know who I am. My name rhymes with Slade Wilson, but that's another character altogether from a completely different Universe! Anyways just wanted to let you know that I am gonna make my debut in the next season of this story, and don't tell Shadow Strike that I was here…
Yours Not-So-Truly,
the Fantastic, Underappreciated, Charismatic, Killer…Youthful, Ostentatious, Useful…DEADPOOL.
