Following the Host Club up the steps, today's plan seemed to be a surprise visit to Haruhi's house. Hikaru and Karou had even managed to drag Renette out of bed on a weekend in order for her to come as well, although it wasn't as hard as they thought it would be.
In fact, the twins were noticing more and more that Renette's attitude towards the club was changing, if only slowly. They found her going along with their scheme's rather easily now. It was an odd site, especially for her.
Knocking on the door, the club smiled with glee, expecting Haruhi to be on the other side. "Haruhi, come out and play!"
But what greeted them was certainly not Haruhi, but rather her father. This time he wasn't dressed up in women's clothing though, but it seems like just a t-shirt in jeans. It was rather unnerving. "What do you want?"
The sudden surprise shocked the members, backing away slowly. "Oh, sorry. We must have the wrong house!"
But Ranka just sighed. "You don't have to be so startled, it's just me. Just because I haven't pulled myself together doesn't mean you have to be so shocked."
Everyone then relaxed and walked into the house, noticing a very important presence missing. "We just came to see Haruhi."
Putting his hand up, Ranka replied. "I'm sorry but she's not here right now. She's actually out with the girls today, and who knows when they will be back."
The hosts withered at this, Kyoya sighing in exasperation. "See? This is why I told you coming unannounced with a bad idea."
Yet it seemed Renette was just annoyed. "You mean to tell me I could've been sleeping right now and yet you dragged me here for nothing?"
Even Tamaki looked utterly disappointed. "I guess we can't stop her if she wants to spend time with her old middle school friends now and then."
They all turned to leave when Ranka put a hand to his chin, questioning the comment. "Now that you think about it, I don't think I remembered any of her new friends. Heck, I didn't even know she had friends at Lobelia."
At the word Lobelia, everyone sharply turned around in disgust, especially Tamaki. "Did you just say Lobelia?"
Ranka nodded his head, not seeing the problem as Renette put a hand to her temple. This wasn't good. "Great, Haruhi's been kidnapped."
Everyone clicked the pieces together in horror, yet Ranka was just as confused. "What do you mean kidnapped?"
Taking her phone out of her pocket, she opened it while talking. "I'm sure they can tell you. I have a call to make."
She pointed to the other Host Club members half heartedly and slipped out the door before turning back to her phone. She can't believe she would have to use this number again.
Dialing it quickly, Renette heard the line ring a couple times before they picked out. "Oh, my. What a surprise. I think this is the first time you've ever called me. I'm honored."
She just rolled her eyes and got down to business. "Benni, why did you kidnap Haruhi?"
But Benni just laughed. "I told you before my little tsundere, I need her for revenge."
Renette internally cringed at the name but ignored it for now, noticing the host club coming to meet her. "Listen, whatever it is you're planning, you need to stop."
Benni thought for a moment before replying. "My, this isn't like you Renette. Since when have you cared so much about others?"
It was clear she was avoiding the conversation and Renette wasn't having it. "Yeah I don't like it either but Haruhi didn't do anything. Stop using her for your stupid games."
A voice echoed through the other end of the phone and Renette could vaguely hear Haruhi on the other end. "Do I really have to wear this?"
That confirmed it, Haruhi was at Lobelia. Benni had just given her the clue she needed.
Though Benni didn't seem bothered, just speaking smoothly into the end of the line. "Well, as lovely as this little chat was, I have a play to prepare for. Free feel to call me if you ever rethink that offer I gave you."
Then, just like that, the line was dead, leaving Renette annoyed more than ever. Of course the offer she was talking about was the transfer to Lobelia. Like hell that was ever going to happen.
Grumbling her shut her phone and the host were eager to know what happened. Souh spoke first. "Renette, who was that?"
She put the object back in her pocket before answering. "It was Benni, she does have Haruhi, for some kind of play or something, and she's at Loebila Academy."
This brought a new question to the members, especially Tamaki. "How do you even have her number in the first place?"
But Renette only groaned. "I told you before didn't I, Tamaki? Benni's mom was friends with my mom a long time ago. One time at this party she stole my phone and put her stupid number into it without asking. Spammed me so much I had to block her. Remind you of someone else you know?"
Although the similarities did not seem familiar to him and missed the jab completely. "No, who would do such a thing?"
To which she shook her head at his idiocy. It was obviously she meant him. "Someone I ask myself everyday why I hang out with them..."
Before things got even more out of hand though, Hunni stepped forward. "So we have to go to Lobelia and get Haru-chan out of there, right Takashi?"
Mori just grunted in response and everyone seemed to be in on the plan, all expect Hikaru and Karou, they looked nervous for some reason. "Do we really have to go to the school?"
The King nodded in reply. "Of course! We have to save our fair Haruhi from those horrible monsters known as the Zuka club!"
Putting an uncomfortable hand behind his hand, Karou continued to look anxious. "It's just that, Renette doesn't wanna go there."
At his words, everyone turned to Renette who also looked mildly uncomfortable. "Well..I…"
Yet it seemed Hikaru cut her off. "Karou is right, there has to be another way, or Renette can just go back home and we can do this without her. She's not going back there."
His words made her step back, unhappy with the way they were reacting. "Whoa whoa boys. What are you, my mother? You can't tell me just to go home when Haruhi's in trouble.."
But the twins turned to her drastically, Hikaru speaking low. "It's not up for discussion. If we really have to go there, then you're not coming with us."
A look of disbelief crossed her face and the entire club didn't know what was happening. Were they fighting? It seemed impossible. Renette and the twins were practically inseparable. Something about Lobelia must have been serious.
Putting her hands on her hips, Renette answered back rather harshly. "I think you forgot that you can't tell me what to do, Hikaru. Haruhi needs us, and I'm not just going to stay and home and do nothing. I understand why you're so upset but I'm not a child. I'm going, and that's final."
It was obvious that Hikaru was upset by her response from the shake of his hands. But, even so, he caved. "Fine. Do what you want. I'll be in the car."
Her eyes fell slightly when he left the group but she couldn't reach for him now. She needs to prove to him that she could indeed do this.
Karou put a light hand on her shoulder, shaken by what had just occurred. "Don't worry about it Renette, you know how he is. He's just worried."
She closed her eyes in response and focused her matters on what was important. Hikaru would just have to deal with this. "Ranka, if we are going to Lobelia, I'm gonna need a favor."
He just looked confused until she leaned into his ear and whispered something unaware to the rest of the host club. Ranka's eyes lit up like sparkles and pulled her into the house without another question. "Of course! We'll be a little while. Meet you boys at the academy!"
Then he shut the door, leaving the rest of the Host Club outside, wondering what had just happened. Between the fight and Ranka kidnapping Renette, they were utterly confused.
When they had reached Lobelia, the boys waited outside the gates for Ranka and Renette to show. It seemed they were taking forever. "What's taking them so long?"
Tamaki turned around, maybe a little too sharply and bumped into the person next to them, causing the girl to tumble to the ground.
Immediately switching into his prince mode, he leaned down and grasped her hand, ready to help her up. "My apologies, are you alright, princess?"
The girl was clearly from Lobelia, with a standard student uniform gracing her body. Her hair was black in color and covering her eyes were thick rimmed glasses. He didn't know how to put his finger on it, but this girl, she was beautiful.
Not gaining a response from the girl, he called her again. "Princess, are you alright?"
The girl lifted her head, opening her mouth to speak to the prince that had indeed saved her. "Ew Disgusting. I told you not to call me princess ever again. I feel like I have to take a bath now."
That very familiar voice coursed through him and the prince gasped, pulling her glasses off to reveal who exactly she was. "Renette?!"
Renette frowned, grabbing her fake glasses back. "Yeah, who did you think it was, stupid?"
Tamaki flew back in shock as another voice entered the mix. "Impressive, isn't it? When Renette asked me to disguise her, I nearly jumped at the chance! Now no one will recognize her like this."
The boys blinked at the transformation, it truly was impressive. She didn't even look like the same person anyone. But this also bought the new question to Hunni. "Why would you need a disguise Ren-chan?"
Clearing her glasses, Renette sighed. "As annoying as it is, the people around Lobelia know me a little too well. If we are truly going to sneak it, then we have to blend it completely."
It made sense but somehow the air seemed uncomfortabley thick around the club. It made Ranka want to change the subject, and fast. "Right, so if Haruhi is involved in some sort of play then she would be in the dance studio. Follow me."
Everyone followed Ranka to a small window in the corner and they crotched down to see Haruhi rehearsing, quite badly if they may add. She sounded like a robot.
Renette placed herself next to Hikaru and whispered. "It's a good thing she wanted to be a lawyer and not an actor, am I right?"
But he just turned away, making her annoyed. "Oh, so you're not speaking to me, that's what we're doing? Fine, I can play your stupid game."
More silence confirmed her suspicion which made her more annoyed. He was such a child sometimes.
Suddenly, a voice behind them shouted, causing the host club members to jump in surprise. "Hey! If you are part of the Lady Bennibada fanclub then you have to follow the rules just like the rest of us!"
Everyone got pulled off their feet and into a huge group of fangirls who were chanting uncontrollably. It was like some weird cult or something.
Because there were so many people, Renette bumped into another girl and apologized. "Oh, I'm sorry. Seems I'm just as clumsy as I've ever been."
She threw in a quick laugh and the girl was won other institenly, catching the eye of the other hosts. It's like she was a natural. "Oh no, it's okay. Hey, are you new here? I don't think I've ever seen you before."
Thinking fast, she put a hand to her head dramatically and sighed. Tamaki would've been proud. "Yes well, it seems I'm always in my books. I get rather shy around strangers. But when I saw Lady Bennibada for the first time, well I knew I had to join this club! If I may ask, what is this play about?"
Her fake speech melted the girls heart and gladly told her about the play. It was about someone getting revenge for his lover and already the parells were eerily similar to what the club had experienced.
Waving goodbye, she met back up with the club who couldn't stop laughing at her display. "Renette, I didn't know you had it in you."
Grumbling in annoyance, she glared at the boys and hissed. "Listen, if you ever talk about this anyone then I will personally come find you myself. You got that?"
Yet they still couldn't stop laughing, having her gaze focus on the building in front of her in anxiety. "Well, I guess we have no choice but to go to the theatre and save her during the show."
Stepping forward, she paused when Karou's arm as on hers. "Are you sure? You really don't have to push yourself like this. We could just..."
She looked back towards the building and gave a shaky sigh. She couldn't be like this, Haruhi needed her help."No, I'm fine. Let's hurry up before the play starts."
Renette started ahead of them and Tamaki couldn't help but feel that uneasy air again. So much so, he called them out on it. "Why are you so against her coming here so much?"
Hikaru looked down at the floor and just walked away, obviously still angry but Karou remained a little more level headed. "Just, keep an eye on her, okay?"
The fact that he avoided the question didn't sit well with him in the slightest but before he could gain a response, they were already gone inside of the music hall.
They found their way towards the backstage and with every step they took, Tamaki could see the color slowing draining from her face. She looked like she was going to be sick.
Of course, she never spoke on it though, leaving the twins even more concerned for her.
Even Hikaru, who wasn't speaking to her, eyed her movements carefully. It's as if they were ready to take her out of here at any moment.
The play began to start and actors filled the stage, Haruhi stepping forward into the middle. From one look anyone could tell she was wearing too much makeup. Everyone couldn't help but cringe at this. "Let's go men!"
Yet Ranka stopped them, eyeing his daughter with pride. "Wait Souh, look how happy she looks up there. She's so radiant and beautiful. Let's not ruin her moment."
Although Renette couldn't see it, the rest of the club seemed entranced. "You're right. We can save her after the show."
And from then it was decided. They stood in the wings and watched the show play out, almost until it was the final scene.
That's when a soft ding filled her pocket and Renette took it out to see who it was. Turning her face up to a smile, she whispered "Oh Kyoya, you clever boy."
Pushing the phone back into her pocket, she turned to the boys. "Listen, Kyoya has a plan but it isn't set up yet. We need to stall this play or else Haruhi will be kissed by that crazy lady."
Everyone looked around to see how they were going to stall the performance when Renette caught one of the performers holding a violin.
Turning her head back towards the stage, Renette closed her eyes in anxiety before talking to the girl next to her. "Excuse me, would you mind if I borrow this?"
The girl agreed and as she passed the instrument over to her, Hikaru knew what she was about to do. "Renette, no. You are not going out there."
She smirked under her breath, trying to make light of the situation. "I thought you weren't speaking to me Hikaru."
But he wasn't having it. "Stop joking for once! Do you even know what this place is?"
Her smirk fell at his words, realizing the weight on them. "Painfully so, yes. But if it can save Haruhi…"
Karou joined the conversation as well, hoping to talk her out of it. "Renette, you don't have to do this.."
Yet Renette only shook her head, taking her fake glasses and wig off, letting it fall to the floor. Almost immediately, the cast members gasped as they recognized who she was. This is why she wanted to wear the disguise in the first place.
Taking a step closer to the stage, she turned to the group in a smile. "Of course I do. I am a member of the host club after all."
This was the first time that Renette had ever called herself a member of the host club or even acknowledged that she was a part of them. This felt big, if only for them.
The audience applauded as the scene ended and Renette knew it was her time. She just needed to stall long enough so that Kyoya could put his plan in motion.
Taking a breath, she stepped onto the stage, earning confusing mutters from the audience and even Benni. "Renette, what are you ...?"
She stopped in the middle, addressing the crowd. "I'm very sorry for interrupting your performance but I have something I would like to share with you. My name is Renette Lightwood and I hope you will listen."
The crowd fell silent as Renette brought her violin into place and closed her eyes. She could do this, for Haruhi, for her friends.
She ran her bow across the strings and almost immediately the audience was frozen in shock at her sound. It was so full and precise, just like when she was a child.
Hikaru and Karou closed their eyes in pain but Tamaki couldn't help but also be entranced by her presence. This was completely different then when she was at the club. Here, it was obvious she was a professional.
The host king turned to the twins, wondering what could of been so bad about her performing like this. "Why didn't you want her to perform?"
Karou opened his eyes, his gaze still transfixed on Renette. "It's not that we didn't want her to perform it's just she hasn't played in front of a crowd since…"
The uncompleted thought didn't ease his worries at all though. "Since when?"
This time it was Hikaru that answered. "Since five years ago. This was the last place she played at, and it was also the same place she got the phone call saying her mom died. She hasn't come back since, well since today."
The words smacked into him, forcing his eyes back to Renette who was hypnotising the audience with her music. Why would she ever want to come back to a place that gave her such a horrible memory and why would she go back out there after everything? Now the twins worry made sense. She was pushing herself too hard.
Tamaki knew it was selfish but he wanted to know more. "Were you there? You know, the day it happened?"
Somewhere deep down he knew he would feel better if the twins had been there to comfort her in such a horrible time. He needed feel comforted by that fact.
But the response he got was not what he hoped for. The boys just looked pained and ashamed, muttering out. "No, we were at home. Heard about it from the maids."
This didn't make him feel any better. Why had they not been there for her, and why had they have to hear it from a maid? Some things didn't line up.
He wanted to dig even further but was stopped when an overwhelming applause filled his ears. Renette had stopped playing.
She had her arms raised up in a bow and they could see tears in her eyes, threatening to fall but never doing so. This girl, she pushed herself so hard just for them.
Renette caught eyes with Kyoya from the sound booth who just nodded his head and exited her the stage. She had done it, she stalled long enough.
The minute she was off stage, Renette felt her own legs give way and crumbled to the floor in heavy breath. "I did it.."
The twins were there immediately, worried out of their minds for the girl. "Renette! Are you okay?"
Still breathing heavily, she smiled through her tears, repeating the words she had said before. "I did it. Hikaru.. Karou...Tamaki, I did it."
Their hearts broke at her words and embraced her small, shaking frame. She was still terrified but went out anyways. "Yes, yes you did."
She hugged them back for a moment only to lay eyes of Tamaki. "Well, what did you think King of the Host Club?"
Tamaki eyed this girl was so much emotion build up in his throat. She truly was remarkable. "You, were beautiful."
Blushing slightly, Renette just brushed it off of course but inside she felt strangely happy. "Cheesy."
The play started once more and all they had to do was wait for Kyoya's plan, which didn't take long at all.
Just as Benni was about to kiss Haruhi, a large screen descended from the ceiling, showing the events that had taken place at the host party not too long ago. This showed that Haruhi had in fact, already had her first kiss.
Needless to say, Benni was furious and in her rage, Tamaki was able to grab Haruhi and get her away from the scene. The plan had worked.
After a very long chase, Benni admitted her defeat and finally let Haruhi go, but not before sneaking up to Renette. "So, the offer is still out there, you know, if you want it."
The orange haired girl watched the host club pick on Haruhi and knew her answer right away. "Sorry but it isn't gonna happen Benni. The host club, it's where I belong."
It seemed the girl expected this answer though. "I know, they even got you to play again. I guess I'll give up for now, but this isn't over."
Just waving her off, Renette smirked. "Yeah yeah, I get it. Bye Benni."
Benni watched her leave and couldn't help but smile. That girl, she was really something.
Pressing pause on his TV, the young man couldn't help but watch Renette play with interest. "So, she started performing again, huh?"
The butler next to him nodded. "Yes. It seems she now attends Ouran Academy and has joined something called a Host Club."
Turning the remote in his hand, he couldn't help but notice how overjoyed she looked in this video. It was interesting to say the least, very different from the last time he saw her. "Seems like she's really been enjoying herself."
He then moved from his chair, running two fingers across her face lighty, a devious smile now on his face. "I think I want to see her again."
Oh boy , here we go. We are now about to get into Renette backstory, all the stuff she's wanted to hide till now is going to pour out. Who is this mystery man and why does he want to see Renette?"
