The Invincible Spider-Man
Dimensional Apocalypse- Part One
Spider-Man swung up to a higher building, still in shock of what has happening before his eyes. The massive Earth in the sky was blotting out most of the Sun, plunging the city into darkness.
"I've got to be hallucinating, or Mysterio is probably up to something. How can an Earth just randomly appear in the sky? How hasn't our Earth's gravity gone bazooka?" asked Peter to himself, as he heard cries from the ground.
"THE END IS NIGH! THE END IS NIGH, I TELL YOU!" shouted a man holding a cardboard banner and running down the street, terrifying civilians. Peter rolled his eyes and jumped to the ground.
"SPIDER-HEATHEN!" shouted the man as he pointed at Spider-Man. Peter groaned as he webbed away the banner.
"The end isn't nigh yet! I hope…" said Peter, muttering the last part of that sentence as he reassured the civilians.
"How do you know! What the Hell is that?!" shouted another civilian.
"Was it something you heroes did again?!" accused another.
"You Avenger types are all the same!" shouted another civilian, pointing at Spider-Man.
"Okay first of all, I'm not an Avenger. And secondly, I'm just trying to help you guys!" protested Spider-Man.
"That's enough!" said another voice, behind Spider-Man. Peter turned around only for his eyes to go wide.
Behind him stood a star-spangled man red and blue man with a circular shield, with a silver star in the middle of it. His presence itself was enough for everybody to go quiet.
"Are you all right, son?" asked the man, while Peter was speechless.
"C-Captain America! I mean, Mr Captain America, or Captain…Mister…" said Peter, fumbling with his words as Captain America chucked, patting his shoulder.
"I appreciate you trying to tame the crowd," he said, while Peter simply smiled from ear to ear.
"Right! I'm guessing the Avengers are like…handling the situation?" asked Spider-Man, while Captain America breathed a sigh.
"I'd be lying if I said we did. Well, Tony said he's handling it," said Captain America. "Clint, Janet and I are on civilian duty," he continued.
"Any way I can help?" asked Spider-Man. "I could help on ground duty,"
"I've heard a lot about you, actually. From S.H.I.E.L.D's profile you seem intelligent," said Captain America.
"Woah wait, S.H. .D has a profile on me?" asked Peter, a little taken aback, as Captain America chuckled.
"Don't take it personally, Fury has a profile on everybody," he replied. All of a sudden, both of them heard the rumbling of an engine. From down the street came a truck, barrelling down the street.
"Okay, what?" asked a surprised Peter, as Captain America swung into action.
"Can you get him out of the car?" asked Captain America.
"Can do!" replied Spider-Man, swinging forwards and jumping onto the roof of the car, before punching down the windshield.
"License, please!" said Spider-Man, as he pulled him out of the truck and webbed him to a lamppost.
"Okay, jump off!" said Captain America, as Spider-Man jumped off of the truck. Captain America took out his shield and held it in front of him, as the truck barrelled towards him.
He slammed the shield straight into the face of the truck, causing it to come to a grinding halt.
"Woah," said Peter, in awe as Captain America simply put his shield on his back and walked up to the driver, who was hanging upside down from the lamppost.
"Who are you?" asked Captain America, while the man shivered. Spider-Man opened up the back of the truck, only to find heaps of cash.
"Bank robbery. Looks like someone decided an earth showing up in the sky is the perfect time to commit crimes," sighed Spider-Man.
"That's not good, it means more of these are happening around the city. We might need more help," said Captain America. "For now, Spider-Man, I suggest you head to Avengers Tower, Tony may need your help," he continued.
"Tony Stark needs my help?" asked Peter, stunned, while Captain America chuckled and walked away back to his motorbike.
"Alrighty then, Avengers Tower it is!" said Spider-Man to himself.
Spider-Man swung over to a building adjacent to Avengers Tower, unsure of himself.
"Last time I was here, Deadpool and I pretty much made a mess…" thought Spider-Man, as he jumped down and swung to the glass door, which seemed to be locked. A massive crowd had formed around the door.
"Oh boy," thought Spider-Man, as he made his way to the front of the crowd. "Excuse me, pardon me, Spider-Emergency!" said Peter, and yet he felt drowned out by the crowd.
"Okay yep, this isn't gonna work," thought Spider-Man, as he jumped out of the crowd and began to run up the tower, towards the helipad.
"How…high…is this tower?" asked Spider-Man, panting heavily as he realized he wasn't even halfway up the side.
Eventually, he made his way to the top, jumping onto the helipad as he gasped for breath.
"Oh jeez…that's my cardio for the week," thought Spider-Man, when his Spider-Sense began to tingle.
"WOAH!" he exclaimed, as he dodged a laser by a zeptosecond. He looked at his attacker, only to see what looked like an Iron Man armour.
"Iron Man! Wait no, that's not him," exclaimed Peter, but the robot just attacked with another laser, which once again barely missed Peter.
"Neutralizing threat," said the robot.
"I'm so sorry about this," said Peter, as the robot began to fire a repulsor blast. However, Peter webbed up the gauntlet just as soon as the blast went off, causing it to explode, destroying the drone.
"Well, that happened," said Spider-Man. All of a sudden, the glass door behind him began to slide open, as a man with an arc reactor in his chest walked out, wearing what looked like a more modern version of Google Glass.
"Well, I guess you couldn't help but destroy more of my armours," said Tony sarcastically, while Peter rubbed his neck.
"In my defense, they attacked first," said Peter, extending a handshake. Tony eyed him, before shaking his hand.
"Steve said you'll be coming," said Tony, as he began to walk inside.
"Wait, so if you knew I was coming, why'd you let the drone attack me?" asked Spider-Man, following Tony.
"Wanted to see what you were made of. That was clever, by the way. Trapping the repulsor blast within the armour with that webbing. What is that anyways?" asked Tony.
"Oh it's a polymer I created," said Peter.
"Like nylon? I'm guessing a condensation reaction?" asked Tony.
"Nope. Dehydrochlorination between methanol and carbon tetrachloride. And then with other organic compounds too," explained Peter, as Tony raised his eyebrows. The two of them walked into a room with a massive whiteboard, along with multiple calculations.
"The inverse square law? Oh you're wondering the same thing as I am," said Peter, as he began to examine the whiteboard.
"Which is?" replied Tony, in question.
"How on Earth does a random planet appear in the sky and not completely screw up our gravity or our orbit?" explained Peter.
"Exactly. Any theories?" asked Tony.
"First guess, probably an illusion by one of my enemies, though this isn't exactly Mysterio's M.O," replied Peter.
"The fishbowl head guy?" asked Tony.
"That's him. What's your theory?" asked Peter.
"Probably a different dimensional brane," said Tony.
"Yeah but…that would mean String Theory is real. Even then that would apply to basic particles, but an entire Earth?" asked Peter.
"True. I'm not an expert in all of this. Luckily, I know someone who does," said Tony.
"Who could that be?" asked Peter, as Tony walked up to his armory, punching a code into an electronic keypad, unlocking various armours. Tony walked up to MK 42, as he extended his hand and the armour began to cover him.
"A fellow scientist. Relatively…flexible in his line of work," replied Tony, as Peter grinned.
"Oh I think I know who you're talking about," he replied.
Iron Man flew across the skyline of the now dark New York. Attached to his back was a web, and holding onto that web was Spider-Man.
"Too fast?" joked Iron Man, as they flew towards the Baxter Building.
"Please, this isn't the first time I've had to hang onto a guy in a suit of armour," replied Peter, the wind obscuring most of his words as they approached the Baxter Building: A large building with the logo of a 4 on the side.
The duo landed on the roof of the Baxter Building, as Iron Man walked to the centre of the roof.
"I think we should knock on the door first?" suggested Spider-Man.
"H.E.R.B.I.E? Tony here," said Iron Man.
"Access granted," said a voice, as the roof began to part. The part that Tony was standing on began to descend.
"Well, hop on!" said Tony, as Spider-Man hopped onto the platform descending downward, into the main hall of the Fantastic Four's lab.
Spider-Man noticed Reed Richards working on a blackboard, while Johnny Storm was sipping on a Capri-Sun nearby, standing next to The Thing.
"Spider-Man!" said Johnny, as he went up to high five. "Been a while," he said.
"Sure has. Mr Richards, did you figure out what this crisis is about?" inquired Peter.
"It's from a different dimension. The Earth, I mean," said Reed.
"Woah wait, like an alternate dimension?" asked Tony, as his helmet retracted back, revealing a confused face. The calculations on the board seemed Latin even to him.
"Sue joined the rest of the Avengers on civilian duty. I think we need to get them all here if I'm gonna explain this…" said Reed.
The Fantastic Four's lab seemed to be overcrowded with both the Avengers and the Fantastic Four present. Wasp, Invisible Woman, Human Torch and The Thing were all standing before the blackboard, while Reed, Tony and Peter stood on either side of it.
Peter still couldn't believe he was in the same room as all of them.
"Okay, so today the unthinkable happened. An Earth just randomly appeared in the sky today," said Reed, as he pointed to a diagram of the new Earth, seemingly in their Earth's orbit.
"But, with an object this large just randomly showing up in our orbit, it would completely mess up our orbit, sending not only us but our entire solar system for a joyride into the Sun. And yet, that hasn't happened," continued Peter.
"And our explanation is that Earth Number 2 is actually there, but not presently there at the same time," said Tony, leading to a lot of confused expressions. "Okay maybe I should have worded that differently," he muttered to himself.
"Okay, so gravity has always been a mystery to scientists, right? A theory arose known as String Theory, which if real, means that our 3-Dimensional world, is just 3 dimensions stacked on top of each other," continued Peter. "But if String Theory is real, it means there's an infinite number of dimensions stacked on top of each other, that we humans cannot perceive," he finished.
"Okay, so we exist in 3 dimensions. Which are just 3 dimensions, out of an infinite number of them?" asked The Thing.
"And the Earth up there inhabits 3 others?" continued Wasp.
"Precisely! I mean it's a massive breakthrough in physics, it's able to combine both general relativity and quantum mechanics into one…harmonious blend of wonder and-"
"Reed, honey," said Sue, chuckling as Reed realized he was rambling. Johnny then cleared his throat.
"Okay, I know everyone here has like an IQ over 130, but all of my genes went in my looks. So any way you could simplify this?" asked Johnny.
Peter quickly took a chalk and drew multiple lines on top of each other. "Imagine each one of these as one layer, or one dimension, got it?" asked Spider-Man. "And imagine that there's an infinite number of these lines,"
"Yep," replied Johnny, as Peter circled three of the lines that were in the centre.
"Now these 3 dimensions are our universe. Basically, everything we can perceive," said Peter. He then circled a set of 3 others that were above it.
"And this is Earth Number 2. Like this, there's gonna be an infinite number of Earths in this Multiverse," explained Peter.
"Ohhhhhh, got it. So somehow our 3 lines merged with their 3 lines?" asked Johnny.
"Yeah…pretty much," replied Peter, as Tony gave an impressed look to Captain America, who nodded.
"The bigger question is, how on Earth, no pun intended, did those lines merge?" asked Reed. "I mean, the Multiverse is real, and I'm not a massive expert on everything that has to do with alternate dimensions as such," he continued.
"Neither am I, you know anyone, Spider-Man?" asked Tony.
"Well, I do know a guy," said Spider-Man.
The Sanctum Sanctorum's red window seemed to be glowing against the darker sky, as Stephen Strange sat in the middle of a runic that was made on the third floor of the Sanctum.
That's when he heard a knock on the door, followed by a voice that he did recognize. He stood up from the runic as the Cloak of Levitation wrapped itself around his back, as he began to float out of the attic and down the hall stairs, towards the door of the Sanctum.
"I assume you know why we're all here?" asked Spider-Man as the doors opened, revealing him and all the other heroes.
"As a matter of fact, I was expecting you to show up," said Strange, as he allowed everyone in.
"I mean, I knew this place had something strange about it, didn't know it was magic," remarked Hawkeye, as he stared in awe at everything around him. "Kate would go nuts over this,"
"Hank never believed much in magic. Oh well," smirked Janet, as the group followed Strange to the centre, who pulled up what looked like an orange magical hologram of the Earth.
"By now I'm sure you all know that this Earth isn't from our plane of existence?" asked Strange.
"Uh, "brane" of existence, actually. Plane of existence just sounds esoteric," joked Tony, as Strange gave him a strained look.
"The Earth in they sky is from an alternate dimension, that has managed to merge with ours," said Strange. "There is a very thin membrane between universes as such, and that Earth is inches away from tearing that membrane apart," he continued.
"Yeah we knew this was apocalyptic, but how did it get there in the first place?" asked Thing.
"Every Earth vibrates at a different frequency, the frequency is what sets it apart from the others. It's the basis of String Theory," said Strange.
"Wait so Gandalf here is actually a science guy? Science and magic do not mix," said Tony, suspiciously eyeing Strange.
"I was a neurosurgeon before all of this," replied Strange.
"Touché," said Tony.
"I still don't get what String Theory is?" asked Johnny, who seemed bored of the whole conversation.
"To oversimplify things, it states that every fundamental particle of the universe, like quarks, or electrons, are all made up of strings that vibrate at different frequencies, and that's what gives them their properties. We can assume that these alternate universes are just like that. Small particles that vibrate at different frequencies to make one large Multiverse," explained Reed.
"Makes sense," replied Clint. "And I'm guessing that Earth 2 is coming closer and closer, till it tears apart that membrane?" he continued.
"Unfortunately, yes. And if that happens, not only will our solar system be destroyed, but the damage to the Multiverse itself would be cataclysmic. A million Earths would be caught in the radius, and who knows how many more?" said Stephen.
"We need to find a way to prevent this convergence, with as minimum casualties as possible," said Steve.
All of a sudden, there was a massive rumble, as the whole building began to shake.
"Oh God," said Strange, as he rushed out the Sanctum doors, only to notice the Earth getting closer and closer.
"It's already happening!" said Strange, as he quickly opened up a portal. Another man wearing a purple cloak stepped out. He had darker, longer hair and a wooden staff.
"Doctor Voodoo?" asked Spider-Man, who instantly recognized him.
"Jericho, we need to cast a spell to protect Earth from clashing with that one," said Strange.
"That's borderline impossible, Stephen! Blanketing the entire Earth in such a spell is not only extremely dangerous for the sorcerers, but it would barely last a few hours," said Jericho.
"We'll find out a way to prevent it in a few hours. Buy us as much time as you can, please," said Captain America. Jericho looked at Steve, then back to Strange, and then the Earth in the sky coming closer and closer.
"Okay, all right. But I'm going to need help," said Jericho. "When we perform this spell it's going to be…excruciatingly painful. We need someone to hold us down in case we try and break away from the runic in order to stop the pain," he continued.
"I'll come with you. Spider-Man, Iron Man and Mr Fantastic, try and find a way to prevent the clash as soon as possible. The rest of us will help the sorcerers," said Captain America, as everyone nodded.
Strange encapsulated all of them, except for Tony, Reed and Peter, in a bubble as they flew to the top of a building.
"Hitch a ride," said Iron Man, as Spider-Man shot a web at Tony's armour, and Mister Fantastic held the back of Iron Man's armour, as they flew back to the Baxter Building.
"Okay, so just how much is this going to suck?" asked Clint, as the sorcerers began to make a rune.
"Not as bad for you all as it will be for us. This spell is often practiced to protect smaller localities, never an entire planet," said Doctor Voodoo, as he seemed to lift the incantation off of the ground. "No matter what we say you can't let us stop,"
Stephen did the same, as he began to conjure up more energy.
"We might need a protective barrier for ourselves too, in case we lash out against you," he said as he began to chant, while Invisible Woman cast a barrier around the two sorcerers.
"Reed, you guys better be coming up with something," she said via her comms.
"Uhhhhh well about that…we're gonna need some time!" replied Reed, who had one hand outstretched across the board, while Peter and Tony ran holographic simulations.
"Okay, what if we try and overlap-" started Peter.
"Overlap 2 different branes? I doubt we have the technology for that right now," said Tony. All of a sudden, a massive earthquake occurred as the lab began to rattle. Peter rushed to the window and saw the street begin to split apart.
"Oh shit, it's started!" exclaimed Peter. "Cap, how's it going?" he asked through his comms.
"GAAAAAAHHH!" shouted Strange, as he and Doctor Voodoo began to cast the spell.
"I can't do this!" shouted Jericho, as he began to try and break the bubble casted around him by Sue.
"We need to restrain him while he chants the spell, Janet!" exclaimed Hawkeye.
"On it!" she said, as she quickly shrunk down and held onto Jericho's shoulders. Her strength was inversely proportional to her size and she was able to hold him down easier.
"Cap, Johnny, you guys handle Strange! Stay inside Invisible Woman's bubble!" said Janet, as she and Hawkeye restrained Jericho.
"Thing! The streets are falling apart, anything you could do about that?" asked Captain America, as Ben grinned, jumping down onto the street and holding onto one side with his left, and another with his right.
"This is…gonna…suck!" exclaimed Thing through gritted teeth, as he tried to pull the streets together, long enough for civilians to escape to safety.
Strange began to retaliate while still working on the spell, as if some part of him was going crazy but the other part was still stable.
"Settle down, Dumbledore!" shouted Johnny, as he held down Strange, while Cap's shield pinned him down.
"Create a ring of fire!" said Sue, as Johnny shot out flames around Strange and Jericho. The building they were standing on began to fall apart, as Sue began to lose her balance.
"Hold on!" exclaimed Hawkeye, as he rappelled down the building and to the ground. Upon landing, he quickly switched out his arrows for rope arrows and shot them towards the wall of the building.
The arrows managed to hold the building from collapsing, as Hawkeye breathed a sigh of relief.
"Spider-Man, who?" he asked as he grappled back up to the top of the building.
Back at the Baxter Building, the trio were still trying to figure out a way to prevent the Earths from crashing into each other.
"Wait, if we're going by String Theory on a macro level, that means every universe has some sort of vibration, right? Of a certain frequency," said Reed, hitting upon a lightbulb.
"Our dimension vibrates at a different frequency as theirs, what if it's become similar and that's why we're merging?" continued Peter.
"We need to find a way to reverse that effect but we barely have enough time, Earth is literally falling apart! Hold on…what about a synchronizer?" suggested Tony.
"A what?" asked Peter.
"A device that can essentially unite two different variables into an equilibrium, keeping them stable, as one synchronized unit," explained Reed.
"So we can synchronize the vibrations of both the Earths, to one frequency?" asked Peter.
"It's our best bet for now. That or total destruction," said Tony, as Reed rushed to the back of the lab, coming out with what looked like a cylindrical device.
"Only problem is, how do we make this affect two whole Earths? This is normally used for subatomic particles," said Reed.
"What if Strange can amplify the effect of the synchronizer? Like along the barrier?" suggested Peter.
"It's possible, we're out of options," replied Tony, as he notified Steve via his comms.
"Steve, we may have an idea, how's the wizards doing?" he asked.
"Not…good!" grunted Steve, as he and Johnny tried to hold down Strange and keep him stable, as he tried to break past Sue's bubble.
"STOP! I CAN'T-STOPPPP!" exclaimed Strange in pain, as an orange barrier began to coat the skies, as the sorcerers stopped fighting back. The spell was finally complete.
"We're sending Spider-Man there, he'll explain everything," said Tony, as Reed handed him the synchronizer.
"Get there quickly kid," said Tony, as Peter nodded and swung out of the Baxter Building, towards where the other heroes were. The dark skies overhead were replaced with an orange tint, as the earthquakes began to increase.
"Captain!" exclaimed Spider-Man, as he landed next to a weakened Doctor Strange.
"The barrier…isn't going to last long…" wheezed Strange, as Jericho lay unconscious next to him.
"Spider-Man, did you guys figure out something?" asked Wasp.
"We did. Stephen, we need you to amplify the effect of this synchronizer, we need to unite vibrations of the two Earths," he said, as Strange's eyes went wide.
"That's too risky! The consequences are unpredictable," said Stephen.
"Strange, we have no choice. It's better than the complete destruction of our Earth," said Spider-Man, as Captain America nodded.
"We need to ensure our survival. What would uniting the two Earths do?" asked Steve.
"We'd surely survive, but the chaos is unpredictable," said Strange.
"Do we…have any other choice?" asked Sue, weakened as well.
"Unfortunately, no," said Strange, as he took the synchronizer from Peter, and began to float up towards the sky.
"Good luck. When all this ends, we must regroup," said Strange, as he flew higher and chanted a spell, as the synchronizer began to go haywire.
There was a massive blinding light, as Spider-Man's Spider-Sense began to go crazy.
"Oh crap-"
Before he could finish, the blinding light swept past all of them, throughout the entire city and the entire world.
"Professor. Professor!" exclaimed a voice.
Charles opened his eyes, and found himself lying on the ground, amidst the dust and rubble. Running up to him was a man wearing blue and yellow spandex, along with a red visor.
"Cyclops! What happened," asked Charles, as he coughed up dust.
"We don't know. Ororo's missing, so are Piotr and Logan," he said, as he helped Charles get up.
"We need to find your hover-chair," said Cyclops, as he began to look around.
"No, wait," said Charles, as he tried to stand up, and miraculously got onto his feet.
"Professor Xavier…what?!" exclaimed Cyclops, as Charles looked back at him, just as confused. He then turned his head and looked forwards at the horizon, only to have his heart sink.
The skyline of New York seemed to have been replaced by broken buildings and torn flags wrapped around them, laced with a blood-red tinted sky and a suffocating atmosphere of hopelessness and dread.
"Professor," started Cyclops.
"What the Hell happened?"
And there we go! That's chapter one of this 5 parter, stay tuned for part 2!
Wow, where do I even start? Honestly these last 2 months have been the last 2 months of my life, and it's almost all thanks to my girlfriend. She's honestly made me feel so much more confident in myself and just a happier person in general. I feel like my life finally has some sense of direction now! By the way yes, she has read this story too lol. In sadder news, I watched Uncharted yesterday and pretty much had my favorite game series ever ruined on the big screen, thanks Hollywood! But other than that, I've become a crossword addict and I've officially shifted to a new house! Things are definitely looking up and I couldn't be happier. It feels like after almost 3 years of just continuous downs, my life has gone higher than ever!
