"Star! Star!" Moon call running around the now destroyed Magic Temple. Maneuvering around the various debris that surrounded her. With each passing second, her fear grew. No matter where she looked, Star was nowhere to be found.
"Moonpie!" Moon turned to see River running towards her. He hugged her tightly. " I don't know how you did it. But Globgoor magically got better. And in even better news those giant robots are destroyed!"
Moon didn't respond. She kept staring off at the scene in front of her. Looking nearby by she saw Eclipsa and Globglor playing with Meteora. Mina giving some speech before she and Manfred ran off into the woods. All the other new Solarian warriors were sitting in their now broken armor, seemingly done with terrorizing the monsters. The other monsters, that Moon could see, seemed rather happy now that they weren't being killed.
"Where's Star?" River said looking around a bit. "I'm sure she'd be happy to see all of this."
"She's gone," Moon said quietly. Her voice breaking with every word.
"What?" River said in shock.
"Star's gone." Moon collapsed on her knees. She buried her face in her hands and started crying.
Moon walked around the new Butterfly castle. Despite it only being three years since Meteroa went on her rampage, the castle was nearing completion. Mostly due to the monsters that were helping with construction this time. The rebuilding of Mewni was going much faster than predicted. And the new castle was the last step needed. Looking out one of the windows Moon saw the new normal of Mewni. Monsters and Mewimans getting along. Like this was how things had always been. Sure there was the occasional tension, but it was quickly stopped.
"Your majesty you have a visitor," a septarian woman announced while standing in the nearby doorway.
"Who is it, Wendy?" Moon asked while turning around.
"Lady Eclipsa and Lord Globgor," Wendy responded with a bit of hesitation.
"That's unexpected," Moon whispered to herself. Before saying to Wendy. "Are they with you right now?"
"No your majesty, they're in the throne room."
"Alright then, I'll go meet them there." Moon started to walk out of the room. Wendy followed suit. But still a few steps behind Moon. When they made it to the throne room she saw Eclipsa and Globgor with their backs to her. Little Meteroa was by her father's feet. Jumping up and down, excitedly about something. Moon could hear River behind them. Sounding very excited about something. After standing there for a few seconds. Moon coughed a little to make herself known.
"Um hello," Moon greeted awkwardly as both Eclipsa and Globgor turned their heads around.
"Moon it's good to see you," Eclipsa said also awkwardly. She turned around and in one of her arms. "Globgor and I just wanted to stop by and introduce you two to our newborn daughter, Hope."
Moon slowly walked over to Eclipsa. She moved the bundle slightly so the baby could be seen better. Globgor walked over and put an arm around Eclipsa. Moon looked at the baby. Hope appeared to inherit a bit more of her father than her older sister. With pale red skin and darker stripes on her arms. However, it looked like some bits of her grandmother was present with Hope's red hair. And when the baby opened her eyes Moon saw they were still the newborn blue color but her whites were yellow.
"Well, congratulations you two," Moon said straightening herself a bit and clapped her hands together gently.
"Thank you, Moon," Eclipsa said adjusting the blanket a little. She continued to say something but Moon couldn't figure out what. The baby her eyes focused on Moon. Staring at her. Seemingly in awe. Moon found herself draw to the baby's eyes. Her mind went to Star. Thinking back the nurse presenting her to Moon. How Star cried until being comforted by her mother. How she would refuse to leave Moon's side and how she would run up to her whenever Moon got out of a meeting. And hiding behind her like Meteroa was currently doing with Globgor.
"I have to go," Moon said quickly walking out of the room. "I have an important meeting to get too."
"Well it was good to see you," Eclipsa said quietly watching as Moon ran out of the room.
"So we're still working on all the details," a Mewni museum curator said as she led Moon and River around the wreckage of the old Butterfly Castle. "But here's what he got of the Tapestry Room."
Moon walked in and looked around. She was in a little awe of the slight. The twelve tapestries looked just had they had before they destroyed so many years ago.
"Now the main reason this took so long, was we had to recreate them by hand," the curator said walking up to the tapestry of Rhina the Riddled. "We tried to repair the original ones. But they were so poorly stitched together before the seems were too noticeable."
Moon didn't respond she continued to walk through the room. The curator was still going on about all the work that went into this room. Moon wasn't listening to her. Her eyes never left the tapestries. She hadn't been in this room since her encounter with Mina. Just thinking of that day made her shutter. If only she wasn't so keen on that schedule from here. Maybe she would still have her daughter.
"Now if it's any consolation, your majesty," the curator said walking up to Moon. "We were able to save some pieces of them and are planning on displaying them, in the Second Era of Mewni Artifacts. In fact, I'll go show you that next."
The curator started to leave and River and Wendy were quick to follow her. The curator still going on about how difficult the reconstruction was.
"Your majesty?" Wendy asked noticing Moon wasn't following them.
"I'll meet up with you in a moment," Moon said not looking away.
"I'll take notes for you," Wendy said before leaving.
"Thank you," Moon said. As she walked by she saw Comet's tapestry. "Hello Mother, long time no see."
Comet shone in the light of the room. Despite it being many years since her death, Moon could still easily picture her. Looking down she saw a small stone plaque, shaped as her mother's butterfly cheek marks. Moon brushed her hand against it, reading the poem as she had done so many times before. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed something. A plaque, similar to the one underneath Comet's tapestry but heart-shaped. Slowly Moon walked over to it. She read the words, Star the Underestimated and the poem which followed it. Looking up she didn't see a tapestry of any of Star's accomplishments. Not her Golden Butterfly form. Not her defeating Toffee, discovering the truth of her family, her efforts to unite Mewimans and Monsters, or giving the throne to Eclipsa. It wasn't even of her destroying magic. It was her from the royal family portrait that used to be in the castle. That was how her daughter was going to be remembered. Simply as a lost princess.
"Where did I go wrong?" Moon asked collapsing over the plaque.
As if on cue a light flickered over one of the tapestries. She looked over and saw it over Eclipsa's. She walked over to it. Eclipsa and Globgor looking menacingly at her. She found it a bit jarring now, knowing was she does now. But staring at the tapestry she knew what she had to do. And she didn't know if she would like it.
"You know I was very surprised that you invited me, Moon," Eclipsa said as Moon poured her some tea. They were sitting in the new castle's garden at a table Moon set up specifically for this. Meanwhile, Meteroa and Hope ran around chasing each other.
"Well, I invited you here for a reason," Moon took a deep breath in. "I wanted to apologize."
"For what?' Eclipsa asked placing her teacup down.
"Everything!" Moon said. "For working with Mina. For making you give up the throne. And most importantly not trusting you."
"Moon I..."
"This should be your kingdom." Moon stood up and gestured around. "Your daughters should be princesses. Not normal little girls."
"Moon, there's no need to apologize everything is fine."
"No, it's not! Because of my misjudgment, you lost everything. Your rightful kingdom. Your wand. Magic itself. You don't deserve all you have lost."
"All the while you lost your daughter," Eclipsa said softly standing up. "That's a loss greater than my own."
"Unlike you I deserve it." Moon turned around and looked down. "I worked with Mina. I betrayed my daughter. I'm the reason she went to go live on Earth. I can never make it up to her. But I can at least try with you."
"What do you mean?" Eclipsa asked as Moon turned back around.
"I want to give the throne of Mewni back to you," Moon said firmly.
"No!" Eclipsa said much to Moon's surprise. "Moon I was never fit to rule. Even as queen I only looked after what was best for myself. I never looked at Mewni as a whole. I spent almost my entire reign as queen trying to free Globgor. I cursed Rhombulus to try to get him to free him. I was even late to an important dinner with the Spiderbites because I was trying to find a piece of the Spellbook. With the full plans of freeing Globgor. That isn't how a queen should think."
"But you and your daughters are the real Butterflies. The throne is rightfully yours."
"But I don't want it," Eclipsa looked away slightly. Seemingly watching her daughters. "If it wasn't for my reign, Mina wouldn't have rebelled. We would still have magic and Star."
"Don't go blaming yourself Eclipsa. If it wasn't for my involvement Mina would never have gotten as far she did. I know nothing I say can fully make up for that but at least let me do this for you."
"I don't want to be queen Moon," Eclipsa said firmly looking back up at Moon. "The only thing I want from you is your friendship again."
"Friendship?" Moon asked in confusion.
"Yes prior to," Eclipsa glanced at Meteroa who wasn't listening. "Her rampage. I've missed those days and it gets lonely when Globgor is out patrolling the kingdom. You were the first person since Globgor I felt like I truly clicked with. When heard what happened to you, I felt horrible. If anything I owe something to you."
"It seems like we both have been hurting these past few years." Moon walked back to the table and sat down. Eclipsa followed. "Maybe together we can heal together. starting today."
"So still no luck with Mina," Eclipsa said as she and Moon sat in the dining room.
"Aside from apparent sightings no," Moon sighed. A small bang came from the other room.
"One second," Eclipsa said before turning towards the room. "Kids, what are you doing in there?"
"Nothing Mom," Meteroa responded.
"We'll come out here before you break something."
The door to the next room opened and Eclipsa's three children walked out. Meteroa looking really annoyed, while Hope looking a bit disinterested. Behind them was Eclipsa's third children. A currently fourteen-year-old boy named Alphonse. He was an almost exact clone of his mother and you wouldn't even tell he was half monster until he showed off his shapeshifting power. Currently, the three of them were staring nervously at each other.
"Aunt Moon, have you been feeling any strange rumbles recently?" Hope asked nervously after a bit.
"I have dear it's probably nothing," Moon said giving an assuring smile. Before anything could happen the door burst opened and Katrina Frog ran in.
"Queen Moon," she said breathing heavily. "There's something you need to see at the lake."
The five of them ran to the lake. Moon praying that Mina hadn't killed anyone. When they got there a decent crowd had formed around the lake. They made their way to the front of it. Moon and Eclipsa gasped.
"This is impossible," Eclipsa said walking forward.
"It can't be," Moon said at the same time. In front of them was a fully restored magic temple. The temple guardians already making their way to it. Before anything else could happen a glowing orb came from the temple and floated in front of them.
"Greetings young Queen of Mewni," Glossaryck said appearing from the orb. "Wait Moon you're still alive? How long was I gone?"
"Twenty-five years," Moon said still in awe.
"Huh I was excepting at least another seventy-five years," Glossaryck said making a calendar appear and flipping through it.
"Mom who is this?" Meteroa asked pointing to him.
"This is Glossaryck dear," Eclipsa explained gesturing to him. "He is the teacher of magic."
"Magic?" Alphonse asked in confusion. "I thought that was destroyed."
"Oh right, that reminds me." Glossaryck made five golden shapes appear. Moon recognized three of them as the former cheek marks of her, Eclipsa, and Meteroa. The other two were the shape of a bird and three circles arranged in a pyramid. The shaped floated to them before absorbing back into their bodies. Moon felt her body tingle all over as it did.
"Oh my gosh, Hope you have birds on your cheeks!" Alphonse said in shock.
"And you have circle things on yours," Hope gasped.
"And Moon this is yours," Glossyrck tossed the broken wand to Moon. In her hands, it fixed site;f and return to how it looked when she owned it.
"Mom, what's going?" Meteroa asked looking at everything around her.
"Well dear, it appears magic is somehow back." Eclipsa turned towards Moon. "Moon, what do you do now?"
"Right now there's only one thing I want to do," Moon looked up towards the sky. "See my daughter again."
