"I can't believe I'm doing this," Artemis said as he walked up to the movie studio. He looked over at the sign and read Callum Carpter Auditions. He held his book close to him. There were plenty of kids around his age. Many of them wearing full-on cosplay for the series. Artemis looked down at his simple t-shirt and shrunk down a little. Angie wrapped her arm around him and pulled him a bit closer.
"Don't worry dear you'll do great," Angie said sweetly kissing him on the forehead.
"But everyone else stands out more than me," Artemis said. Not taking his eyes off of the other actors.
"That won't matter to the casting agents," Angie said hopefully. "They'll only be focusing on who's acting the best for Callum."
"Uh, Grandma this audition is for extras," Artemis said still looking at the sign.
"It's a start," Angie started to tear up a little. "Who knows maybe someday you'll be a big movie star."
Artemis laughed a little as he and Angie walked in. He could see so many more people than before. He could feel his heart start to speed up a little. Slowly he breathed in and out. Angie kept by his side. The workers quickly started to group the kids by age and gender. Artemis was quick to join the fourteen-year-old boys. Artemis gave his information when asked before his group was escorted to another room.
"All I'm saying is we have a better chance than that guy," a boy said gesturing at Artemis.
"What?" Artemis said looking up at him confused.
"No offensive but who are they going to cast us the people who know the series," the boy gestured to himself and the boy next to him. Before turning once again to Artemis. "Or the guy who showed up in a t-shirt."
"I don't have a costume," Artemis said quietly. Angie looked up at the boys.
"And I would like it if you minded your own business," Angie added. Looking sternly at them.
"Not to mention that costume is inaccurate," Artemis thought to himself. Hoping that remaining quiet would end the whole thing.
"Hey don't listen to him," someone next to Artemis said. He turned to see a boy with wavy blond hair and dark green eyes. He was also dressed in a Callum Carpenter looking costume but looked better than the other guy.
"Thanks," Artemis said quietly. He started fidgeting his hands a little.
"First audition?" the boy asked.
"Yeah, I almost didn't come here." Artemis rubbed the back of his head. "But I've loved the Callum Carpenter books since I was a kid and I couldn't resist."
"Don't worry you'll be fine." The boy looked over at the one the was commenting on Artemis. "And don't worry about Eric he's all talk."
"And between you and me his costume is all that accurate," Artemis whispered with a small laugh. The boy laughed with him.
"I'm Tyler," the boy said with a smile.
"I'm Artemis." Artemis smiled.
"That's an interesting name."
"Yeah, my parents just liked the name," Artemis said awkwardly. Tyler smiled and pulled out his phone.
"Want to exchange numbers?" Tyler said moving his phone in his hands a little.
"Sure," Artemis beamed. His eyes lighting up as he heard those words. Tyler laughed a little. Artemis looked at his contacts. All five of them. Tyler handed Artemis his phone and Artemis slowly typed in his number in. Tyler smiled. And soon Artemis saw a small message, HI!. It was small but it meant the world to him.
"I can't believe this is happening," Harmony said as Azealia started to adjust her dress. Even wearing the dark green gown she had seen only a few days ago in her closet, it still didn't feel real. "I'm getting a magic wand. A magic wand."
"Oh, what do you think it will look like?" Kit asked eating some cheesy corn snack.
"Kit be careful with that," Azealia said shooing her away. Kit grabbed a big handful of the snack and shoved them into her mouth. Chewing on them slowly.
"I'm sorry I'm confused look like?" Harmony said turning around. She had to hold on to her dress as she moved. "It looks like a scepter with a heart made out of a diamond on it."
"The wand changes with the owner," Kit said. "At least I think that's how it works."
"That's how Queen Moon said it works. And I'm sure that part hasn't changed."
"And what if it doesn't."
"Nah it will change," Harmony turned to see a floating blue, man eating pudding behind her. She screamed and started to fall back, only for Azealia to catch her.
"Princess!" A young castle guard ran in with a spear. She was a frog monster and a good friend of her mother.
"We're fine Katrina," Azealia explained as she helped Harmony back up to her feet. "Harmony lost her footing that's all."
"Alright," Katrina said walking out, closing the door behind her.
"Everyone seems to be on high alert to today," Harmony said trying her best to fix her dress. It wasn't damaged but Harmony wanted it to look perfect.
"That's because everyone's worried Mina will show up," Kit said rolling her eyes.
"She's the crazy one who tried to kill all monsters right?" Harmony asked Azealia nodded.
"Can't believe you haven't found her yet," the blue man said taking another bite of pudding.
"Aren't you like all-knowing?" Kit asked him.
"If I did everything for Mewimans then nothing would happen," the man began ranting. "Sure I can snap away any problem you have but no one would learn anything from it. Mewimans would be even lazier than they already were."
"Is he that Glosseyrick guy my grandma has told me about?" Harmony whispered. Azealia nodded in response.
"Greetings Princess," Glosseryrick said turning towards her. "You probably already know me. You'll be seeing me a lot more once you get the wand. Well, see you at the ceremony!"
Before Harmony could say anything Glosseryrick disappeared. Harmony turned towards Azealia who just shrugged. Kit walked over, now wiping her hands with a cloth. Azealia finished adjusting her dress. Before she knew it, Wendy walked into the room.
"Princess Harmony are you ready?"
Harmony straightened herself and firmly said, "yes I am."
"Alright boys right this way," a worker said to Artemis's group. It was time for his age group to audition. Due to this, Artemis had to go in with only his age group. Angie remained with the other parents in the lobby. Before he knew it, the group was standing before someone, who Artemis believed to be the casting director or at least their assistant. He then started to divide the boys into groups of ten. Artemis slowly walked to his spot and to his relief Tyler walked next to him.
"We're getting so close," Artemis said nervously.
"Don't worry you'll do fine." Tyler smiled at him and nudged Artemis with his elbow.
Slowly the groups were led into the next room. They were in there for a while before led out. Artemis tried to hear what was going on. But he couldn't make anything out. Even as his group moved closer to the door. As he got closer he started breathing in and out. Slowly and calmly as he could.
"You are close young Butterfly."
"Oh no, not now," Artemis thought to himself.
"You must go to the well. To fulfill your destiny and earn your birthright."
"Get out of my head," Artemis started to shake a little. Then something stood out to him. "Wait, birthright?"
"Next group," the casting director's assistant said. Artemis looked around and saw it was his group. Slowly he walked in. Tyler gave him another smile and Artemis gave him one back. Once in the room, they were lined up in a straight line facing the table. The casting director and some other workers were facing them. Already looking them over. Artemis got a quick look at his group. He saw that he was the only one not in any sort of costume. He tried to see Tyler but there were five people between them. One of the workers walked by them and asked each of them for their names. The boys gave them some confidently and others nervously.
"Alright boys," the casting director said standing up. "We're going to give you some scenarios and we want you to react to them. Some as groups and some individually. We will also be asking you a few questions about the series."
Artemis stood firmly. Doing everything he was asked off. Making the group part go by like a breeze. They were simple stuff, such as gasping in surprise and cheering in excitement. Then the personal auditions begin. One of the casting directors walked up to each boy. Giving them a series of reactions for them to do. Everyone did them, some better than others. Before he knew it, it was his term.
"Artemis Diaz correct?" the director asked.
"Yes ma'am," Artemis said politely but firm.
"Alright, your first scene will be." She looked through her clipboard. "When the silent fear potion is accidentally released in the class. Pretend you are hearing voices in your head."
"You got to be kidding me," Artemis thought to himself. He then covered his ears and started moving ina circle. He screamed a little and yelled. "Get out of my head!"
"Impressive," the director said. "You're next scene will be when Callum and Gavin get into their first duel. Pretend you are one of the spectators."
"Go, Gavin!" Artemis cheered. Before taking some steps back in fear. The director called out some events happening. Artemis reacted accordingly. From stepping back in fear to staring in awe of the spells. The process repeated a few more times before Artemis was done.
"Good job Artemis," the director said before walking over to the next boy. Artemis couldn't help but beam in place. He did it.
"Okay Harmony you can do this," Harmony said to herself. Pacing around in a circle. "You can do this. It's just walking up and getting the wand."
Before anything else could happen, the doors opened. Harmony saw her grandmother and grandfather standing in front of her. Harmony walked down the aisle. Holding her head up high, trying not to look at the Mewimans and Monsters watching her. Only taking glances at them. Some were giving her snooty looks with their noses turned up. Others were looking at her in awe and delight. She could see the other royals of Mewni. From the looks, of it, they were giving her their support. When she reached the stairs that were grandparents were, she held her dress up a little and walked up.
"Princess Harmony," Moon said once Harmony reached the top. "This wand has been passed down for generations from even before the first queen of Mewni. Twenty-five years ago it was believed that such an event like this would never occur again. As when magic was destroyed the wand lost all its power. Now with a new age of magic, it only makes sense that the wand is given to new hands. Normally this is to be given on the crown princess's fourteenth birthday, with some exceptions. With these unprecedented times, I believe you are ready. Be careful with this but don't forget to have fun."
Harmony slowly reached for the wand in her grandma's hands. Taking it carefully and holding it up. Immediately a silver light surrounded the wand. Harmony stared at the transformation in awe. When the light faded Harmony saw it had turned into a small golden harp with a small silver heart on it. Curiously she strummed one of the pearly white strings. When she did a small firework came from it. She twirled and strummed it some more allowing a flurry of small fireworks. The crowd cheered and Harmony smiled. Loving the magic that she created.
