"Where's your parents? Maybe we should tell them about your cuts" said Arthur.

I looked down at my feet with a frown.

"They're not here, they umm...they're back at home..they were fighting so I left."

"Oh I see...wait a minute, how old are you anyways Jenna?' he asked making me look up at him.

"I'm Eight" I said like it was no big deal.

"Eight?! What in the world is an eight year old little girl doing out here all on her own?!" he gasped.

"Hey, I'm not a little girl! I'm a big girl and I can do things all by myself. How old are you Mr smartypants?' I asked crossing my arms at him.

"I'm thirteen" he said.

"Oh..sorry" I said knowing he was much older and mature than I was.

"Come on, let's get you home before you get in trouble okay?" He said holding out his hand.

I nodded and took it, but as we walked I saw Arthur glaring at the big kid who pushed me down.

"Wait right here okay," he said before leading me to the entrance of the park.

I said okay and watched in disgust as he dug through a nearby trashcan.

He smirked when he found an old coke can.

I gasped as he threw the can at the boy who pushed me. Causing him to fall off the swing and get completely sticky with the leftover soda.

The boy let out a loud "Hey!' as Arthur took off running and quickly took my hand to run with him.

We giggled as we ran all the way to my apartment building.

And it may have been my imagination, but I could've swore that Arthur was laughing alot louder and stronger than I was...

Even though we were already inside the building.I kept looking over my shoulder to see if that boy was chasing after us.

"Hey don't look so scared, he's not around anymore" said Arthur as if he could read my thoughts.

"You know you really should have someone around next time you go out. Dont you have any older brothers or sisters?' he asked.

"No, my mom and dad just had me. I'm sorry but I just hate staying home when they fight."

"I know what you mean,..but hey at least you have a dad. I never knew mine.'

I looked up at him in shock, how could he be so calm when he said something like that.

"So..you just live at home with your mommy then?' I asked.

"Yeah, and I don't really have many friends." he said again in that same calm voice.

Not being able to control myself, I wrapped my arms around his waist and hugged him.

And surprisingly he hugged me back and petted my hair like I was a little kitty.

"Can- can we be friends?" I asked looking up at him with a small blush.

"Yeah..ofcourse we can. I actually dont live to far from here so how about we hang out every weekend okay?"

I happily agreed and waved goodbye as he dropped me off outside my apartment.

"Bye Arthur! See you soon.'

He smiled and waved back, and I watched him as he walked back down stairs.

I was in such a good mood that, I didn't even notice that my parents were still fighting.

I just went back to my room and thought about everything that happened today. And about my new friend.
