"Well Ms. Franklin, we were able to get ahold of your mother's older sister. She said she'd be willing to take you in.' Said the cop in a sweet voice.
It wasn't until now that I even remembered that I had an aunt. But from what I remembered about her, is that she didn't live in Gotham. But from what mom had told me is that she lived in Delaware. And Delaware was only a two hour drive from here.
"Son, don't you think you should be heading home now? Your mother has been calling up here all night."
Arthur just rolled his eyes and held my hand.
"Just let me stay with her until her aunt comes" Arthur said.
The cop just shrugs and leaves us once again.
"Is your mom going to be mad?' I aksed.
"Dont worry about that, there's no way I'm leaving you alone.'
"Arthur...my aunt dosen't live in Gotham...what if...what if I never see you again?' I said feeling more tears forming.
"Shh, calm down. Nothing can stop our friendship,..or my love for you.'
I sat up, and threw myself into his arms.
"You're the best brother I could ever ask for. I wish I didn't have to leave you."
Arthur kisses my forhead and just continues to hold me.
At around 10:30pm my new guardian finally shows up.
"Jenna?" Said a voice making me look up.
From what I saw she was a young looking woman. About 5'5, with light brown hair pulled back into a bun. She was dressed in a white Vneck blouse, Blue jeans, white convers and she wore thick rimmed black glasses.
"Hi sweetie, I'm your aunt Jessica' she said in a kind voice.
I sat up and gave her a small wave.
"Are you a friend of hers?" Aunt Jessica asked Arthur.
"Yes ma'am, I'm Arthur" he said in a shy voice.
"He's my best friend' I said matter of factly.
"Thank you so much for looking after her Arthur. I can't imagine how she would feel if she was going through all of this alone."
"Are you taking me back to Delaware?" I asked.
"Well not right away sweetie, me and your uncle Joshua are going to take you back home. You'll be able to pack your things and we'll be able to pack up a few of your mother's things as well.'
"Can Arthur come with us? Please?" I asked.
"Ofcourse he can, but he'll have to call his mother when we get there.'
I nodded and fallowed both of them outside where my uncle was waiting for us in his car.
While he drove us all back to my house. I studied him over, He was tall, strong looking, with a small black beard, and slicked back black hair. And Beautiful grey eyes and a very nice smile.
When we finally got back to my house. My uncle carried me inside and layed me down on my mom's bed.
Just the smell of her on the bed sheets brought more tears to my eyes.
"Mommy.." I whispered before braking down once again.
"Josh..maybe we should leave her alone for now' said my Aunt Jessica before giving me a kiss on the cheek.
"Take all the time you need sweetheart. We'll be in the living room if you need anything."
Once they left the room, I cried some more into my pillow. But from outside the bedroom door I could hear Arthur on the phone with his mom. By the tone if his voice I could tell that he was annoyed.
Why his mom didnt like him being around me, was beyond my knowledge.
After hanging up, Arthur knocked on the door and asked to come in.
"Come in Arthur' I said with a sigh.
Without another word, Arthur layed down next to me and held me.
"...I know I've said this before, but I'm truly sorry you lost your mom Jenna."
I nodded and layed my head on his chest.
"I'm sorry that you had to stay here. I hope your mom wasn't mad at you.'
"Don't worry about that, she can be mad all she wants. My little sister needs me' with that said he kissed my forhead and rubbed my back to comfort me.
For the whole night, we held eachother until we fell asleep.
Even though I knew it was impossible, I prayed that this nightmare would end.
(A few weeks later)
I stood over my moms coffin, clutching into a red rose. While my aunt and uncle greeted a few more of our relatives who arrived at the funeral.
Some tried to greet me, but my sorrow and tears didnt allow me to interact with anyone.
It wasn't until a familiar pair of arms wrapped around me, that I finally snapped out of my sad mood. Arthur was here, and dressed all in black like everyone else.
"Hey Jenna" he said hugging me.
"Hi, big brother.'
We held hands as we sat down around the coffin with my other relatives and listened to the preacher speak.
He went on an on about how god would take care of my mom.
But I could hardly listen, because in the distance I could see my dad walking hand in hand with a woman who I only assumed to be Karen. She was skinny, a blonde and dressed in an ugly black dress.God how could my dad prefer her over my mom?!
Just seeing them made me angry. But I was more than relieved when they kept their distance.
As the coffin lowered into the ground, I held onto Arthur and cried as hard as I could.
After the funeral was over, my aunt and uncle thanked everyone for coming. As for me, I was still finding it hard to say goodbye.
I walked with Arthur over to my moms headstone. It read "R.I.P Leah Davis, Beloved Mother and Sister."
"I love you so much Mommy' I said as I layed the rose down.
"She'll always be with you Jenna. And she'll always love you" Arthur said pulling me in for another hug.
I gave her headstone one last wave goodbye before we walked away to be with my aunt and uncle once again.
But as we walked we were approached by my Dad who stopped us.
"Jenna..I'm so sorry baby. Are you okay?' he asked trying to hug me. But I pushed his hand away and stood my ground.
"What do you care?' I asked, not caring if I was giving him attitude.
"I do care baby, look I know I haven't been around lately. And I know you were planning on living with your aunt Jessica. But Karen and I would love it if you came and lived with us."
"That's right precious, we'll take good care of you" said Karen as if she knew the first thing about me.
"No! Just leave me alone, I dont want to see either of you again."
With that said I ran off with Arthur, and ignoring the fact that my Dad was calling after me.
"Jenna, are you all packed up sweetie?' My aunt asked as she came into my now empty bedroom.
"Yeah, ill be down in a second.'
"Alright sweetie, take your time."
When I was alone, I took a moment to say goodbye to the one place I called my home.
With a sigh, I picked up Francesca and pulled straps over my shoulders.
When I finally made it outside,I found Arthur waiting for me.
"I cant believe you're leaving" he said holding me.
"Me neither, but I'll write to you, and call you and try to visit" I said fighting back the urge to cry once again.
"I will too Jenna, be good and listent to yout aunt and uncle okay?'
I nodded and reached up and kissed him on his cheek.
He blushed and put a hand to his cheek.
"Jenna, time to go!" Said my uncle as he and my aunt got into their car.
"I got to go, dont forget me okay."
"I'll never forget you Jenna.'
With one last hug goodbye, Arthur helped me into the car.
"Goodbye Arthur...I love you" I said before the door closed.
We waved goodbye to eachother as the car drove away.
When he was out of my site completely, Iet the tears fall once again.
I wasn't sure what life would have in store next. I just hoped that my best friend would still be in my life...
