Not sure how many more I've got in me...running out of ideas considering I am trying to keep this light and a bit of fun.
"Movie Night." Adam plonked himself down on the sofa with a bowl of popcorn. Atwater had finally come through with some groceries and calm had been restored. They were like two kids in a candy store when it first arrived. Adam had cooked dinner, which he took great delight in. The slow roasted Beef Ragu had been delicious. "And it's my turn. Hurry up Kimberley."
He had started calling her Kimberley which was basically just to annoy her and he was successful. She couldn't find anything to annoy him with yet, although calling him PeeWee hadn't gone down well. It started him off on a rant about his manhood that Kim hadn't expected and somehow segued into an angry diatribe about Roman that left Kim feeling a little battered and she was left in no doubt his feelings on the matter so she dropped 'PeeWee'.
"Cool your jets, I'm coming." She had taken a shower after dinner and was hunting through her draws for a something comfortable to wear. That had been an unexpected consequence, the lack of clean clothes. While Adam was happy to wear things until they could stand up by themselves Kim was a lot more fastidious about only wearing things once.
He had enjoyed the view in the bathroom this morning when she had washed and hung up her underwear. Grabbing the white lacy thong off the shower rail where it was drying he came out swinging it around on one finger. "Why have I never seen this before?"
"Because you don't deserve it."
"What do I have to do to deserve to see you in this?"
"Shut up."
"For how long?"
She really hadn't thought this through. "Two hours." Kim was pretty sure that he wouldn't last two minutes, let alone two hours. He was physically and mentally incapable of keeping his mouth shut.
It got away from them and Kim ran with it out of desperation for something to do.
When Adam got up to disappear into his bedroom with his phone Kim was quick to put a stop to it. "Ahhhh, where are you going?" It was time to put some strict rules around this little game to try and stop it spiralling.
"My room."
"No."
"No?" Adam looked at her with a slightly bemused look.
"No, two hours and you are not spending it locked in your room playing on your phone, that is not a challenge for you. So you need to be out here, no phone, no TV, nothing."
"That's not fair." He whined.
"What? You scared you can't do it." Kim mocked him. "I mean I know you haven't been officially diagnosed but I swear you have every hyperactive disorder known to man, probably some that are yet to be discovered too."
"Whatever, little miss can't sit still for more than 10 minutes." Adam waved his hand wildly.
"Do you want to add a sitting still aspect to this as well?"
"No." He was pretty sure he'd lose that. The no talking he had a shot, sitting still, not fucking likely. "And… if I win, you will dance for me in this?" He pointed to the article of clothing that started all this. Kim had it scrunched in her hand and she hid it behind her back when Adam motioned towards it.
"As if you are going to win." Kim scoffed.
When they hit one and a half hours of complete silence Kim started to panic and she tried everything to get him to crack only stopping short of actually taking her clothes off, but it was to no avail. The more Kim tried to get him to crack the harder he dug his heels in.
She even tried calling him on his phone from a blocked number. He looked at it and just turned his phone off. Smiling deviously at her at the same time. She'd have to try harder to get him to speak. The prize for him was like winning the lottery, there was no way he was losing.
It was killing him though and he waited a good three minutes after his alarm went off so she couldn't claim that it wasn't quite 2 hours. It then exploded out of him like a volcano as he leapt up from the couch, whooping for joy and got up in Kim's face, taunting her until she snatched it and stormed into her room slamming her door. She didn't come out until dinner time. There was no way he was going to let her live this down or wriggle off the hook.
"What the actual fuck." He almost dropped the dish he was holding when she finally came out of her hour long sulk in her bedroom. He had knocked on her door several times only to be told to sod off, he turned the music up and danced around the kitchen. In short he annoyed the crap out of her.
Now this was her paying him back and she was wearing the thong, over the top of her leggings. "That's not fucking fair. No fucking way, nuh ah. I will not accept this."
"What?" He put her hands on her hips and wiggled them suggestively. "It's good enough for Superman."
"You are not fucking Superman, Wonder Woman perhaps and she doesn't wear leggings underneath. Like I appreciate you trying to keep some sense of modesty, but you know what I've seen you naked, many times. I like it….I don't like this." He was getting ridiculous. "You are not being fair, I won fair and square."
"Adam…." Kim snapped at him. "…please don't make me shoot you. It would make a mess and I don't want to be stuck in here with your dead body for five days. It would start to smell and decompose."
"I have one little bit of joy, just one and you snatch it away." Adam sighed, dishing up her dinner. "You are a cruel, cruel woman Kimberley Burgess." His toes curled at little at the hard stare he got so he dropped it for now.
At least until after dinner anyway.
"Are you putting on my prize?" He called out. "Properly this time." He was starting to get a little nervous, maybe he had pushed her too far. They'd already had a good hard conversation about their current relationship status and also Kim's readiness for anything more physical. Considering what they had been through with the pregnancy and miscarriage, it was just a bridge too far at the moment and that was totally Kim's call.
Kim sauntered out in sweat pants and a hoodie and no sign of her underwear. "No. If I let you pick the movie can we call this even?"
"No." Adam responded flatly. "It was my turn anyway so you are not getting out of it that easily. There are consequences to your actions. It would be remiss of me and your development as a human and an adult to let you get away with reneging on a deal. I am doing this for you."
"You are so kind." She did wait until he lifted his arm up and tucked her feet up under her and snuggle into his side.
It was their go to position and they settled in. Last night had been Kim's choice and Adam had roundly criticised it and eventually, much to Kim's relief he had fallen asleep. 'Holiday in the Wild' was a typical Hallmark movie and Adam hated them with a passion. He mocked it, claiming he knew the plot before it even started, that he'd seen it before…
"You have not."
"I have, it was called something different though. They are all the same, all of them, they kill my brain cells."
"You might learn a thing or two."
"Like what? How to kiss without moving my lips, or forehead because of all the Botox?"
Kim snorted. "You could do with some tips."
"Come here and I'll show you. I've got moves, you know I've got moves. You keep coming back for more."
"Don't touch me." Kim warned him playfully. "Watch the movie."
He bitched about everything. 'Sure that's how you catch a baby elephant, throw a shirt over its eyes….it's not even real…of course she's a Vet, she'll stay and help and fall in love with whatshisface….what's the bet he gets the kid to come over for Christmas….he's just doing it to bump uglies…'
"Can you please shut the fuck up…for the love of god I have never heard anyone whine as much as you do. You are like an old woman." He thought she was being harsh and decided the easiest thing for him to do was close his eyes and hopefully wake up when the pain was over.
"What are we watching?" She reached for a handful of popcorn as Adam set the bowl in between them. Kim had zero expectations that she was going to enjoy this. So far his choices had been pretty good but the amount of bitching and whining he had done all day about last night's choice she feared retribution.
"Misery. Seems appropriate."
"Adam…." Kim whined. "I hate horror movies."
"I'll protect you Darlin'." He kissed the top of her head sweetly. "I'm your number one fan." Kim smiled at him, he still did sweet things, he was always ready to flirt. Even when he was melting down or ranting he'd suddenly surprise her by throwing in a sweet line and it annoyed her no end when she was ranting at him that he'd try and flirt with her. He was the single most frustrating man she'd ever met but he was her catnip.
Kim really had no idea what the movie was about. She had paid no attention to it because it just wasn't in her wheelhouse. She loved a good comedy or romcom, they saw enough horror every single day at work so when she got home she wanted something light. "She's not going to be nice is she?" The movie had only just started. "What's this about anyway?"
"I'm not ruining the surprise, anyway I think she seems nice….she's his number one fan." Adam teased her and he flinched when Kim poked him in the ribs. "Owww." He was really going to enjoy this. Payback was a bitch.
"Don't tease me."
'Get out, get out…." Kim screamed at the TV she covered her face and peered out between her fingers. 'Oh god she's coming, go back, go back. Man, that penguin. She's going to notice it won't she?'
"Just watch." Adam was loving it because every time Kim got scared she tried to get closer and closer to him. "Any closer Darlin' and you'll be sitting on my lap. I mean I don't mind but…things I can't control might happen though, be warned."
'She'll make him drink that, won't she?'
'Oh god…she knows, doesn't she, she knows he put something in it, I swear she knows.'
"Kim…." Adam started. "Do I need to give you a two hour challenge?"
She slapped her hand over his mouth to stop him and he nipped her hand playfully. "Am I annoying you?" He nodded. "Really? I'm annoying, at least I am not snoring. Why'd you make me watch this?"
"Because if anything was going to get you to cuddle up to me it's a scary movie."
Kim moved away, taking the bowl of popcorn with her. "Smart Ass."
She was literally almost back in his lap minutes later. 'Oh holy fucking crap…' Kim gasped when Annie hobbled the poor man.
"This is the worst movie, Adam." Kim buried her face in his chest and couldn't watch the end of it. "Never, ever tell me you are my number one fan again."
"But it's true. I have always been your number one fan."
Kim held up her hand and Adam knew her well enough to know he was better off to stop speaking…for now. "I will hobble you Annie."
Adam laughed when Kim called him Annie. He didn't mind it.
He watched as Kim threw out the last of the popcorn, only the hard un-popped pieces remained. She would have been happy with a bag of store bought popcorn but Adam liked the 'whole experience' of popping it yourself. It reminded him of being a kid, he didn't have a lot of happy memories of his childhood so Kim let him have this one.
Picking up the two empty beer bottles he put them in the recycling, they both cringed at the sound of the bottles rattling around with the rest of the empty ones. They were both going to need to do some serious workouts once they were free. The beer and food had flowed a little too frequently.
"So?" Adam leaned on the doorframe to her bedroom. Kim had tried to sneak away while he was finishing tidying up in the kitchen. "You gonna dance for me?"
"Yes."
It was two minutes of pure bliss and the best damn show he'd seen in a long time. He just wished it was more interactive.
