"The only way out is through a fairy tale." Jack quoted the words written in the Book.

There was a silence, then Jack landed and grinned, having decided this girl was safe to trust. He bowed with a flourish. "How can I be of assistance, madam?"

Kuri smiled in spite of herself. "The Evil Queen trapped you in this forest, Jack. I have to defeat her. I think…" she leaned forward, he leaned back. "We have to win to escape."

"Then we best win." Jack held out his hand. "Care for a ride?"

Kuri's eyes widened. "May I?"

"Of course."

They flew into the winter sky, snowflakes in their wake.

"I think I should go to her. The Queen." Jack said softly. "She'll kill you; you're the leader of the rebellion. I want to defeat her for you. Is that alright?"

Kuri nodded, and pulled out a pair of arrowheads, handing him one. "If anything happens to you, mine will freeze. If anything happens to me, yours will burn red hot."

Jack put the arrowhead in his hoodie.

Kuri clasped his hands. "Jack. I'll come for you. I'll always come for you." She kissed him, and he flew away.
