On With the Story!
Shadow sat quietly on the wooden chair, arms and legs crossed as he stared blankly at the far wall. When he and Blue got here with Green in the shadow's arms, the mother of the little brunette lead him to a shed in the back, where they made a makeshift bed for Green and took turns watching over him. Shadow had taken the night shift, not able to sleep last night from all he saw and heard the day before, Red's pained scream and Vio's pale face terrorizing his dreams.
'Well at least it's no longer Shelda plaguing my dreams.' He thought dryly, getting quite tired of being tired. Shadow stifled a yawn with his hand as he waited for Blue to come relieve him from this stiff chair. Shadow looked around the shed, taking in the shed for the millionth time overnight. It was a small, square room, with basic tools hanging on the wall to the right of the door. A table was to the left, where a thick pile of hay with an old wool blanket on top was put and where Green now laid and Shadow sat beside. Looking the wolf over, Shadow could see the gentle rise and fall of his chest under the tightly wrapped bandages. Shadow easily saw that both injuries on his chest and his head had at one point in the night stopped bleeding. Shadow knew that neither of them were major injuries, just had been untreated for a short while that caused it to bleed longer, especially the head wound. Yawning again, Shadow closed his eyes and stretched his hands into the air, straightening out his back as he did so, hearing the creek of the door opening.
"Man, gonna sleep on the spot much?" a familiar male voice said from the door. Not startled at all, Shadow looked over to Blue, who was leaning against the doorway to the shed, a smirk on his face and looking just as rested as Shadow felt.
"I could say the same to you." He said simply as he stood. Rubbing his tired eyes, Shadow asked,
"How're the others?" Blue shrugged his shoulders in response before adding,
"Better. Red woke up and Vio seems to be breathing deeper. Shelda said they'll both be fine." Shadow nodded to this, saying quietly;
"That's good." Blue nodded in agreement before jerking his head in Green's direction,
"Anything with him?" Shadow looked over to Green, thinking over the night as he checked him over before answering,
"Nothing I could catch. He barely twitched when I redid the bandages. His wounds did stop bleeding, so that's good." Blue silently nodded as he too watched Green. After a few minutes of silent, Blue finally spoke up again.
"Alright, I'll let you go pass out. Just be sure you make it inside." He added with a smirk and wink, which caused Shadow to smirk as well before he shook his head and made his way inside, closing the shed door behind him. Covering his mouth as he yawned again, Shadow walked back inside, giving a silent wave to the mother as he passed by and slowly headed upstairs. Once Shadow was up there, he opened the door to the only spare bedroom and walked straight in, and went to the bed right beside the door and plopped, his face buried in the pillow. A quiet chuckle was heard before the edge of Shadow's bed dip, Shelda's voice amused as she asked,
"Is someone tired?" Shadow was so out of it all he did was nod before turning his head to the side to prevent himself from suffocating. Feeling something leave his head, Shadow lazily opened one eye and saw Shelda hanging his hat on the headboard before going to the foot of the bed and removing his shoes. Another yawn escaped Shadow's mouth before Shelda came back to his head and ruffled his head, saying softly,
"Get some sleep, ya lug. Don't want 'cha collapsing on us cause you're a stubborn mule." Shadow hummed in agreement as he closed his eyes, the last thing he heard before the darkness consumed him was a quiet call from Red;
"Sleep good Shadow!" And with that, he fell into the void of sleep.
)*()*()*(
Blue waited until the door was closed before looking around, seeing the chair Shadow posted at.
"Better than nothin'" Blue mumbled out loud before making his way over and sitting down in the still warm chair. Huffing, Blue looked back over to Green, looking over the wolf for a second time. Seeing him this close reminded Blue of the previous day, how savage the wolf looked as he pinned Shelda to the ground, trying to-
"No, don't think of that." Blue said, shaking his head. Sighing, Blue pulled his eyes away from Green and blankly stared at the wall opposite of him, his thoughts running a mile a minute. The blue clothed link didn't know how to feel with everything, from his supposed visions, to what Twinrova did to Vio, to Green's little 'dilemma', and to Red's injury. It was a lot to take in, even for him. Blue knew that Green would be out for the night, and knew he himself had to get his thoughts straightened out before coming to watch the wolf. Sighing, the blue clothed link examined the shed, taking in every nick and cracks in the walls and roof. It was quiet in the small shed, the unsynchronized breathing of both Links being the only sound.-
"B-blue?"
"HOLY FUCKING SHIT!" Blue yelled, started, jumping up before whipping around to face the azure blue-eyed wolf. Green was still in the same position as he been all night, but now his eyes were open, pain and worry in them. Blue couldn't help the vision of a savage wolf standing over a pile of familiar corpses blinding him, causing his heart to race. The vision cleared to have Blue see Green staring at him, confusion and fear deep within the pain in his eyes. Taking deep breaths, Blue slowly walked back to his chair before plopping down, a large sigh escaping his lips.
"Blue?" Green called out to him, his voice fearful. Blue looked over, raising an eyebrow to indicate he was listening.
"The last thing I remember is jumping in front of Red. That… that caused me to 'snap' again, didn't it?" Blue couldn't help but notice the tears forming in the corner of his eyes, causing Blue to say rudely,
"Don't cry a waterfall now. Ya didn't kill anyone and what you did do wasn't permanent." Green immediately caught on to what he said for he sat up straight, exclaiming,
"'What I did'?! What did I-" he cut off when his face scrunched up in pain, causing him to lie back down and place his paws over his head. Sighing, Blue got up and sat beside Green on the table, gently rubbing the part of Green's back that wasn't covered in bandages.
"Ow ow ow ow ow! Why does it feel like I was whacked upside the head with a shield?!" Green asked with a slight whimper escaping his lips. Blue chuckled at his correct analogy and replied simply,
"Probably because you were." Seeing the confused look Green sent his way, Blue sighed before explaining,
"After you 'snapped', you attacked Red." He felt Green stiffen under his hand, but the wolf kept silent as Blue continued,
"Shelda came up and got you off him while I tended to Red, and Shadow dealt with Vio. At one point you had Shelda pinned. By then Vio was back, so when he heard Shelda screaming for help, he grabbed the shield that was with him and, well… whacked you upside the head unconscious." It was quiet as Green allowed this information to sink in, finally saying in a quiet whisper,
"Is everyone ok?"
"Yes." Blue said annoyed, like he said that for the millionth time. Blue understood Green was just highly concerned for them, considering he injured Red and Vio was poisoned.-
Wait.
Turning back to Green, Blue bluntly asked,
"Did you know Twinrova poisoned Vio?"
"They did what?!"
)*()*()*(
The soreness and pain were the first things that came to him. The last thing he remembered was being with Twinrova in that bird-monster body at the Tower of Winds, the rest being a blur and made Vio wonder as to why he seemed to be laying in a bed. Supposedly in his human form no less. He could hear soft voices to his right, but couldn't understand them due to his clouded mind. Vio cracked open his sapphire blue eyes, keeping his breathing steady and keeping as still as possible. Taking a second to adjust to the light, Vio made sure to keep his eyes narrow as he looked around. The wise Link immediately recognized the spare room of Erune's home, causing even more confusion to him. Turning his head towards the voices, Vio immediately caught sight of Red, and just like that, the memories came back.
This caused Vio to do something that was very, very, stupid.
"Red!" He exclaimed as he bolted upright, instantly regretting it as he both broke into a coughing fit and his body to scream in pain. Closing his eyes tight as he desperately tried to inhale between coughs, Vio felt the bed dip beside him and a delicate hand rubbing his back. After what felt like hours, but was only a minute or two, Vio had finally stopped coughing, and took deep, wheezing gasps to relive the burning in his lungs, but it didn't seem to fade. Panicked, Vio's eyes widened as he clasped his shirt in front of his chest in a death grip, trying to take deeper breaths, but only seemed to be able to take panicked gasps. The person beside him must have realized what was wrong, for their other hand grasped his own hand and a familiar, feminine voice spoke,
"Hey, hey, hey. It's ok. Your chest burns right?" This earned her a vigorous nod from Vio before she continued.
"That's from the non-threatening poison still in your system. It's gonna make you short of breath from exertion or a sudden increase in blood flow, like when you panic, or have a rush of adrenaline. Just try and take deep breaths, and I'll massage your back to try and help your airflows open back up, ok?" Nodding slower this time, Vio did as she asked and took as deep of breaths as he body would allow, while the lady (Her name escaped him, but he wasn't sure if he knew it before or not.) slipped her hands under his shirt and started to rub and massage where the lungs were located. Vio felt both his muscles relax and his airways open, allowing him to give a sigh of relief. The woman must have known how well the massage was doing on his sore muscles, for she started massaging more of his body, starting with his shoulders and working her way down. Vio closed his eye as his body started to relax. Feeling a dip in the bed in front of him, Vio opened his eyes and looked up as the lady spoke up;
"Red, go back to your bed. You're still recovering too." Vio met Red's eyes, and saw tears pecking his eyes, worry filling their depths.
"Sorry Shelda." Red apologized, scooting closer to Vio, hanging his head down and adding in a quiet mumble,
"I just wanted Vio to know I was ok…" A pause in her massage allowed Vio to know she was looking up at Red.
"I know Red." She said sympathetically, "But you don't need to be up and moving. You're still weak from blood loss, and I know just coming over here wore you out." At this, she continued her massage. After a moment of silence, Vio watched Red ready himself sadly to get up, until Shelda spoke up again in an offering voice,
"Of course, I don't want you overexerting yourself, so you might want to sit down for a little bit, and keep your buddy company." This caused Red's face to light up, looking over Vio's shoulder with a smile,
"Thanks Shelda!" the supposed Shelda behind him replied in a happy, motherly tone,
"No problem Red. Just take haste to what I said." Vio watched as Red gave a happy nod in understanding, before looking at Vio and asking,
"So how are you feeling?" Vio had to take a moment to actually know the answer to that. Looking down, Vio took stock of his body, and finally came to a conclusion.
"Everything hurts." He replied with a pained groan, slumping back into Shelda as the strength to sit upright became too much for his body to bear. She must have expected him to do that, because when Vio did this, she showed no signs of surprise as she helped support his body up, letting his head lay on her chest.
"Yeah," Shelda said, her voice sympathetic, "That's expected. Especially with what you went through." Vio looked to the woman, taking in her appearance. She looked too much like the princess, the only difference being her plum colored hair, and crimson eyes. Narrowing his eyes, Vio noticed that these were the same differences between Link and Shadow. Sitting back up slowly, and turning to face Shelda, ignoring Red's protest, he asked in a threatening voice,
"Who are you? Why do you look like the Princess?" Both Red and Shelda stared at him, Red acting more fearful. Shelda, however, her face became stoic, serious. She looked straight into Vio's eyes as she addressed herself.
"My name is Shelda. I'm the dark counter part to Princess Zelda of Hyrule."
"Yeah!" Red piped up, still seeming nervous of the sudden change in atmosphere. "Just like Shadow! She's been a big help!" Vio couldn't help but feel like something was being held back, but decided against it as he realized just how weak his body was. Instead, he gently pushed Shelda off his bed, allowing him to lay back into the pillows. Sighing tiredly, Vio just now noticed that Red was telling him as to what he had missed, and seemed to already be halfway through the story. Interrupting kindly, Vio said to him with a smile,
"I'm really tired Red, and I didn't get half of that. How about you tell me when I'm more up for it, ok?" Red, just like how the boy was, nodded in understanding, saying to him,
"Ok! Get some rest Vio! We'll be here when you wake up." Something about that last sentence seemed so familiar, but he couldn't quite place it as his world enveloped into the dark void of sleep, Red's smiling face and Shelda's unreadable face being the last thing he sees.
)*()*()*(
Shelda couldn't help but loudly groan as she rubs her face as she griped to herself the minute Vio fell back into a deep sleep.
"Of course he won't believe me! The one that fucking has a head is the one that doesn't trust me!" Red still sat at Vio's legs, looking confused as he asked,
"What makes you think he doesn't trust you?" turning to face Red, Shelda clearly pointed out the facts, raising a finger and her voice with each,
"The moment he took notice of me, he grew defensive. When I told him who I was, I clearly saw the unmasked distrust in him. And I could see that even you piping up didn't help! I don't know what the hell to do!" Red, being the optimistic one he was, asked,
"Well, maybe once he gets to know you? Blue said he wasn't all that trustworthy of you till he heard what you sacrificed for us." Shelda quieted at that. She knew this was true. And it was very unlikely that Vio remembered his first night here. Shelda never told the others, but…
He woke up that night more than once.
)*Flash Back*(
Shelda sat on her newest friend known as the wooden chair, trying and failing to read a book Erune gave her, becoming quite frustrated at how many words she really didn't know as the candle burned its last light. Sighing, she finally gave up on trying and put the book aside, blew out the candle engulfing the room in darkness before getting up to look out the window instead. It was late, like, really late. But the dark girl was used to being up for long periods of time back in the Dark Realm, spending time with Vaati, or tending to Shadow as best she could. It was weird, thinking back on her existence before Shadow. Probably not even Shadow knew, but she was, in a way, older than him. She was created first, being the one they originally wanted to use to kidnap the princess. They went as far as teaching her how to sword fight before deciding against it, bringing in Shadow to do the job. Shelda never met Shadow, all she knew at the time was he took her place.
Back then, she didn't even know his name. If he ever had one back then.
Shelda only learned of him when they ordered her to care for Vaati, since no one else could seem to handle it, Vaati being the one telling her. No one knew, but Vaati never wanted to be evil. He told her himself. After he came across dark magic when he was a young Picori, (Shelda always smiled at the memory of her bursting out laughing at this fact, Vaati turning red as he demanded her to stop, earning a half breathed comment on how a Picori couldn't tell her what to do only to go back to laugh, the pattern lasting for a good hour) Vaati learned just how dangerous it was, and strayed away. However, he had told her, after his passing many, many years later, Twinrova reincarnated him in his dark magic form, dispelling any way to do anything against it, and forced him to do their bidding, his room being the only place he could be free from their mind control. Even if it's just for short amounts of time. Shelda couldn't help but worry for her friend, but quickly getting rid of the thought. Telling herself he was fine. Shelda couldn't help but sigh, think back to how simple things seemed to be then. Sure it was hell, but it was a simple hell.
"Not like this" she couldn't help but think. Before she could go back memory lane, Shelda's thoughts were broken by a pained, scared whimper behind her. Kicking into fighting gear, Shelda whipped around, expecting some monster having hold on one of the Links, but instead found nothing there but what she had left it as. The only difference? Vio seemed to be disturbed by something in his sleep. Walking over, Shelda came up to his bedside to see a thin layer of sweat on him, small tears escaping his closed tight eyes. Frowning, Shelda gently sat by his side, placing her hand on his clenched one, not really know what else to do to help. After a second, she started to shush him in a comforting manner in the best way she could. This didn't seem to help, but Shelda didn't want to wake him, know from her experience that that might not be the greatest idea. Knowing nothing else to do, Shelda reached out, planning on combing his hair with her fingers, (she really didn't know what to do) when all of the sudden, he called out;
"NO! Stop!" Vio than proceeded to pull his arm away from hers, his face pained as he seemed to be struggling. Panicking, Shelda reached out to hold him down, but then thought better of it and instead had her hands hovering over his body as she spoke,
"Vio! Its ok! I don't know what you're dreaming about, but you're not there! You need to wake up! Everything's ok!" Shelda really didn't know what to do, since that didn't seem to help either. After another minute, however, his eyes flew open as he tried to sit up, only to hit Shelda's hands and falling back. Shelda could see his eyes were unfocused, being in the near pitch blackness of the room. She herself, was used to darkness, and could almost 100% clearly see in it. She took note his breathing was labored, and his eyes glistened with tears, some falling freely down his cheeks, and he seemed to be afraid to move, his body stiff. Shelda, being very careful, gently placed her hand on his again, calling out in a soft voice,
"Hey." Vio's whole body seemed to stiffen more at her contact, but she pretended not to notice as she grabbed a stay match and relit the candle. Looking back to him, Shelda could see his confusion as his eyes adjusted. She waited a bit, patiently, for him to notice her first, but finally spoke up again in the same quiet voice,
"Are you ok?" His sapphire eyes finally met her crimson ones, and she couldn't help but notice how his eyes soften and his body relaxed at the sight of her. Waiting for an answer, Shelda watched as his mind wrapped around her words before he broke eye contact and said quietly,
"Yeah, just a bad dream." Smiling a bit, Shelda couldn't help but say to him,
"If I didn't just deal with a sleep deprived friend who would say the same thing, I would believe you right now." When their eyes met again, Shelda gave him a comforting smile as she patted his hand, adding,
"But I won't pry. It's your choice if you wanna tell me or not." He nodded in understanding, before looking her over, asking in a delirious voice due to his recuperating mind,
"Are you an angel?" Shelda couldn't help but chuckle at that and answer,
"Oh, far from it." She saw his face fall a bit, but he still asked,
"So a demon?"
The screams came from everywhere, calling the figure the same thing at multiple different times- "Demon"
"Won't it be glorious to hear that?"
"I can't wait."
Shelda couldn't help but blink her eyes as she looked at Vio blankly, the other voice coming from a long forgotten memory. Shaking her head, Shelda forced that to the back of her mind as she looked back at Vio, his tired, pained eyes showing his half mind function. Shelda leaned forward, whispering to him as she tighten her hand over his as she vowed to him,
"I'll never be a demon." This seemed to earn a smile from Vio as he said in such an obvious way,
"Then you're an angel." Shelda sighed, realizing that Vio was probably out of it from his body fighting off the poison more than she thought, but she still smiled and replied,
"I guess I am." Vio shot her another smile before yawning; his body seemed to be more at ease now.
"Go to sleep Vio, We'll be here when you wake up." All she earned in return was a lopsided nod as Vio drifted off again.
)*Flash Back Ends*(
Shelda sighed, walking over to Red and helped him up, trying to forget the night's events. Taking Red back to his own bed, Shelda went to the forth bed and plopped, exhausted both physically and mentally. Closing her eyes, Shelda let sleep engulf her, taking her to a dreamless void.
)*()*()*(
"C'mon Blue, PLEASE!"
"Green, I've said it once, I'll say it again; you're not going inside to see the others." Blue was on his last straws, having this repeating conversation with Green multiple times in the last hour. Blue had gone inside to get Green something to eat hours ago, learning that everyone, but Red, were dead asleep. When Green was told that Red was awake, oh hell, he wouldn't shut up about going to see him. Blue understood he wanted to apologize, but he also knew that Red need more than a single night. Everyone knew how forgiving Red was, but Blue knew that what happened affected him, and he needed time to get over it. Green, however, did not understand this.
"Blue, Please! I need to apologize! I need him to know I didn't mean it!" Blue, getting very annoyed of the repeating topic, repeated in a monotone voice;
"He knows you didn't mean it Green."
"But-"
"Green, I'm not letting you go see him! So drop it!" Blue snapped finally having enough of it. Green, in response, laid his head down, ears pressed against his head. Blue sighed, closing his eyes to try and calm his nerves. Instead, a scream rang in his eyes. Snapping his eyes open, Blue found himself standing in the middle of a destroyed town, fire burning the buildings and smoke covering the sky. Blue watched as people ran around in fear, their clothes torn and bloody from the injuries they possessed. The same scream from before rang out again, and whipping his head around, Blue saw a little girl, plan cream white dress in rags. Her hair was a mangled mess, and her arms were clenching tightly around a little doll close to her chest. The girl's back was pressed up against a brick wall, looking in front of herself, eyes wide with terror. Blue watched with wide eyes of his own when he saw a Dark Knight approach the girl, a bloody sword in hand. Blue ran towards the girl to try and help, but stopped when another figure jumped between the girl and knight. Blue immediately recognized the blond, ultramarine eyed girl, even with her clothes in rages and her hair a mangled mess
It was Princess Zelda herself.
His eyes widen as he saw that Zelda was sword-less. No weapon in her hands at all. Blue couldn't help but watch as Zelda fought the knight, clearly losing as she took blow after blow, Blue himself feeling each hit she took.
"Run!" she told the girl right before taking a very dangerous hit to the head. Blue felt the blow, but his body didn't react the way it was suppose to. However, it did to Zelda, who collapsed to the ground as the little girl ran away, towards Blue himself. He watched as the princess struggled to get up as the Dark Knight raised his sword high. Blue shouted out before running towards them, desperate as Zelda noticed the sword, and laid shocked still as it came down to her head. Blue stopped in his tracks as he chocked on his breath for a second as blood covered the wall behind the now corpse of Zelda. Blue couldn't help but stare in horror as the once life-filled eyes of the princess's faded into an emotionless stare, her disembodied head rolling towards Blue's feet, only to stop and stair at him. Blue took a petrified step back, his eyes wide in fear as the dead eyes of the princess stared into his very being, blood pooling around her, her hair soaking it up, turning her once honey yellow hair red.
"You can prevent this." An angel like voice said behind him. Whipping around, Blue's eyes widened at the sight before him. A woman with a red, high topped dress stood before him, her eyes and hair as red as fire, wing like things on either side of her head right above her ears who floated a good three feet from the ground. Her hair in a long, flowing pony tail and in her hands was an amber red pearl the size of a soccer ball.
"W-who are you?" Blue couldn't help but ask. The woman's dress and hair flowed like as if she was underwater, she herself seeming to glow a peaceful, but powerful light.
"My name not matter now." She answered, her red lips turning to a frown as her red eyes seemed to glow like fire itself as she met Blue's cerulean ones.
"What does matter is preventing this." She said, gesturing to the head that lay behind Blue. Glancing back at it, Blue narrowed his eyes before looking back at the angel like woman, asking;
"What happened here?"
"Is it not obvious?" she asked before looking off to the side, Blue soon following her graze, gasping at what he saw;
It was Hyrule Castle, destroyed to almost rubble, darkness seeming to engulf it in black and plum smoke.
"Twinrova were able to open the Dark Gate to this world."
"The Dark Gate?" Blue asked, pulling his eyes away from the once beautiful castle to look at the woman as she explained;
"The Dark Gate is in simple terms, like a Dark Mirror, but much more powerful and grand. Instead of creating creatures through it, it can transfer those from the Dark Realm, to the Light." Blue looked to the ground before looking back at the ruins of Hyrule Castle.
"How do we prevent this?" he asked, not liking at all what was to become if this Dark Gate was opened.
"You must speak up for the dark light whom will be pushed aside in the final battle."
"Who? Shadow and Shelda? Why would we push them aside?" Blue couldn't see why they would do such a thing to them. They would be the help they need. But of course, Blue couldn't say the others see the same way.
"No. It is not the shadowlings I speak of." This caused Blue to look back at her, confused.
"Then who are you talking about? Stop talking in rhymes!"
"Oh dear Blue." Her sympathetic voice caught Blue off guard as he saw her place a gentle hand on his cheek, her hand soft and smooth and her skin looked like porcelain up close as the woman leaned forwards to be face to face with him.
"If only I could do just that." Blue's eyes widened as he saw a single tear fall from the woman's eye, dropping onto the pearl still clenched in one hand. Before Blue could say anything else, He watched as the woman kissed his forehead, before pulling back, slowly fading from the world. Blue's eyes caught sight of the pearl as she pulled back, catching a look of some sort of symbol on it that almost resembled waves. Blue's mind finally clicked as he couldn't help but call out to the woman,
"Goddess Din! Please tell me what I must do!" All he earned in response, however, was a chuckle, and a whisper,
"Now, if I did that, what would be the point in giving you the gift to see the possibilities in your choices?" Blue was shocked silence as the goddess finally disappeared with a smile on her red lips. Before Blue could do anything else, the sound of armor moving behind him caused Blue to whip around to see the Dark Knight from before charging at him, sword drawn. Blue only had enough time to take a single step back before the sword made contact with him, slicing clear across his stomach. Blue gasped as his eyes shot open, jumping up out of the chair so fast his shaking body couldn't support it, and Blue fell to his hands and knees.
"Blue?" He heard Green ask unsettled, but the blue clothed Link couldn't respond. He felt like he'd been running full pelt for hours, his lungs burned for oxygen and his heart beating faster than a horse. Blue gasped for breath as he stared at the floor wide eyed. His mind kept replaying the vision he saw, not taking notice of the droplets of blood dropping to the floor from his right eye. He didn't notice Green repeatedly calling out to him, each time more panicked than the last. He didn't see the blackness consuming his vision. All Blue knew was one thing, and one thing only before his whole body and mind shut down, and he fell limp to the floor with Green howling at him in alarm;
"We have to stop the Dark Gate from opening"
