On With the Story!
Red sat on his bed, watching the clouds pass by slowly outside the window as light snores filled the room. Looking to the bed to his right, Red watched as Shelda laid there, her face scrunched up in frustration as she read a book. Red couldn't help but smile softly as he told her,
"Maybe you should put the book down to rest. You're going to get a headache if you don't." Red watched as she looked at him, her face thoughtful, but clueless at the same time.
"Yeah.. might be a good idea." She said quietly as she set the book aside on the nightstand between hers and Red's bed.
"Night." She mumbled as she plopped back on the pillow, her arm draped over her head.
"Night!" Red replied as he sat back and went back to watching out at the midday sky.
It had been a good hour, hour and a half of Red staring out the window as everyone around him dozed away. Erune had come by not long ago with some lunch for him, a glass of juice, and opening the window for him before going back to her chores. Red had a smile on his face as he looked over at Shadow across the room, only his hair poking out from under his blanket. Red's smile faded instantly when something outside besides the laughing children and birds caught his attention.
It was howling.
A wolf howling
Red's frown became one of worry as he heard a voice under the howl, a very familiar voice that seemed to be screaming at the top of his lungs;
"Help! Red! Shadow! Anyone, please! I need help! Something happened to Blue! PLEASE! HELP!" Red immediately went tense as he heard this. Wide eye, Red turned to the first person that he thought of.
"Vio!" he almost squawked at his brother. Red felt unnerved as he could hear Green's voice still howling for help, and no one there even twitched in their sleep. Carefully getting up, Red stumbled over to Vio's bedside before sitting on the edge of it. Using his good hand, Red desperately shook the purple clothed Link's shoulder as he softly called out to him. Thankfully, this worked as Vio's face scrunched up before his eyes opened to half lidded.
"Red?" he asked in a sleepy voice. It was at this point when Red saw his pain and fatigue filled eyes that the Link thought Vio probably wasn't the one he should have gone to, but Red pushed that thought away.
"To late now." He thought as his mouth opened, and a jumble of words spewed out;
"IknowIshouldnthavecometoyou,butyouwerethefirstoneithoughtof,andGreen'syellingisscaringme,andidon'tknowwhattodoand-" during his blabber of words, Vio had sat up on his bed before catching something in Red's jumble of words and interrupted,
"Whoa! Whoa! Calm down Red. What did you say about Green?" By now, Red could tell that Vio was on full alert. Taking a deep breath, Red told him one thing,
"Listen." And with that, both went quiet as they listened for any disturbance, until finally, the howling reached their ears.
Red could see Vio sitting just a bit straighter at the sounds of Green's distraught howling, the voice underneath clear to both of them;
"Help! Somebody! I need Help! Blue isn't responding! Help!"
"Get Shadow." Was Vio's quiet order, which Red quickly obeyed immediately, jumping up and, ignoring the dizziness he got from jumping up, ran over to Shadow's bed. Grabbing the lump where he assumed Shadow's shoulder was, Red immediately began to shake the shadow awake. After the third shake, Shadow was wide awake and bolted into a sitting position. Looking around for a second, Shadow finally noticed Red beside his bed, and Red could see the concern in his eyes as the purple haired Link asked;
"Red? What's wrong?" Red, panic filling his mind, felt tears pour down his face as he pointed to the window.
"It's Blue! S-something's wrong!"
Shadow looked out the window, on full alert, and listened. That's when Green's howls reached his ears and his eyes widen at the desperate sound to it.
"H-he says Blue's not m-moving-" If Red had anymore to say, Shadow didn't hear it as he jumped out of bed and bolted out of the house and to the shed, not even noticing he was barefoot. By the time Shadow had gotten to the shed, the children playing nearby had been taken home by their parents by the sound of the wolf. Throwing the door open, Shadow could feel his a lump in his throat at what he saw;
Blue laid face down in a pile of limbs, Green standing over, nudging his and whimpering. Shadow couldn't help but catch the pained expression on the hot headed Link with blood seeping from his damaged eye, a small puddle already forming on the floor and dying a lock of his hair red, but pushed it aside as he came up and gathered Blue in his arms, called for Green to follow, and rushed back inside. As he raced upstairs, Shelda came from around the corner, a fearful expression on her face when she caught a glimpse of Blue. Ushering them to the room, Shelda quickly grabbed her bag of supplies as Shadow set Blue down on his own messy bed. As he was set down, Shadow could see his face scrunching up as he let out a groan.
"Shel!" he called to the girl, who was trying to keep Red and Vio from getting up from Vio's bed,
"I think he's waking up!" right as Shadow said that, Blue opened his eyes, his left one, where it was a slow stream of blood with the eye closed, suddenly started to spill out, down his check and on the pillow.
"Shit." Shadow mumbled as he blindly snatched a rag from Shelda's hand as she approached, pressing it against Blue's eye, trying to get it to stop.
"I'll go get more." Was all Shelda said before she ran out the door to get what she said she would do.
"Shadow? What…?" Blue asked, but soon his voice trailed off as his face paled. Shadow could see the sudden fear in his face, and was about to ask what was wrong, but he was pushed back as Blue turned to lean over the bed and upturned all he had eaten in the last few hours. The rag was still in Shadow's hand as he sat beside Blue, avoiding the puddle now on the floor and rubbed Blue's back between the shoulder blades. Shadow was patient as Blue took deep, gasping breathes as he continued to lean over the bed, his blood dripping and mixing with the vomit on the floor. After what felt like hours, Blue had finally gained his breathing to a somewhat stable state. Shadow watched as Blue slowly sat back, leaning against the head board for a second or two with his eyes closed before opening them to look at Shadow, blood now only slowly flowing out of his eye. Blue opened his mouth to say something, but Shadow watched as the blood touched his tongue and the blue hat Link's eyes went wide before slowly bringing a hand up to his cheek, and pulling away to see his fingertips now red.
"Here." Shadow said as he handed Blue the rage. Blue immediately took it, and press it to his eye, winching a bit at the pain. After a second, Shadow heard the shuffle of feet and turned to see Vio making his way over, Red and Green not far behind. Shadow opened his mouth to tell the Link to go back to his bed, but said Link was already plopping onto the bed beside Shadow, Green behind them with Red snuggling beside him. Shadow closed his mouth and rolled his eyes before scooting over a bit to give Vio more room to sit. Turning to Blue, Shadow saw Blue giving them a smirk, but Shadow saw Vio disregard it and asked;
"Blue what happened? Green said you were just sleeping when your eye suddenly started to bleed, and you woke up gasping before passing out." Shadow looked from Blue to Vio and back again as Blue looked away ignoring them, before something clicked in Shadow's mind.
"You had another vision." Shadow said to him, more of a statement than a question. And by Blue's silence, Shadow knew that was what it was.
"Vision?" Vio asked before coughing in his sleeve a few times as Shadow explained.
"Back when we found Blue, his left eye was badly damaged, causing him to be blind in that eye.-"
"What Shadow means by that," Blue interrupted, his voice rough and scratchy from throwing up, "Is that before he figured out I was, well, me, he stabbed my monster form in the eye and it transferred over to my human form." Shadow sighed in annoyance as Vio shot him a shocked look of disbelief, but Shadow ignored it as he simply looked at Blue and said,
"I have said sorry more times than I can count."
"'Sorry' isn't going to get my eye back."
"ANYWAYS" Shadow said a bit loud to get the point across that the topic was changing back to where it was before. Looking back at Vio, Shadow continued,
"For some reason, because of this, Blue has started having 'visions'. He's able to see things happening in different perspective than reality. However, lately it's causing his eye to bleed." Looking back at Blue, Shadow could see the blood slowly soaking the rag, and couldn't help but whisper,
"But it's never been this bad." When Shadow looked back at Vio to share a look, he heard Blue grumble out,
"Yeah, well blame the goddess Din for that." All heads whipped over to look at Blue, who wouldn't meet their eyes as he looked down, shifting the rag on his eye.
"… Care to explain that a bit?" Shadow couldn't help but ask after a moment of silence, his mind not able to understand just how in the fucking hell that made sense.
"It was, at one point, what my vision was about." Blue said, continuing before any questions could be asked. "I saw goddess Din herself, and she told me that my 'visions' are predicaments as to what will happen. I'm guessing as time goes by, that it will be more useful instead of showing things that have just happened if the other half of the vision has anything to go by."
"What was the other half about?" Shadow snapped over to the door to see who had spoke, seeing it was Shelda, with a bucket of water and a rag inside, a different rag in her other hand. Setting the bucket down, Shelda handed Blue the clean rag and took the dirty one before dropping on her knees by the bed to start cleaning the mess Blue made as said Link continued a bit hesitantly before saying,
"I'm not going into detail or you guys will make more of a mess than I did." Shadow watched as Blue closed his eyes and took a deep breath before continuing.
"Hyrule Castle was in ruins, and I… I saw the Princess's death." Shadow couldn't help but hold his breathe when he saw Blue's face pale again, but the hot headed Link took a couple deep breaths and spoke again,
"That was when goddess Din appeared. At first, I didn't know it was her, but I still asked her what happened. She told me that that would be the outcome if Twinrova can open the Dark Gate."
"The Dark Gate?" Shelda questioned, but Shadow didn't hear her, instead he was hearing the echo of Vaati's cursed voice ringing in his head
Do not worry for your loss; once the Dark Gate is open, those Light Realm brats won't know what is coming.
Shadow could hear his past self and cursed Vaati's laugh echo in his head, but Blue's voice broke through it,
"If I understand how she told me, it's like a Dark Mirror, but instead as limiting to a few dark being,-"
"It can allow all of those in the Dark Realm pass through." Shadow interrupted, then looked at them all with a stone cold determined expression as he added,
"Even those banished." Everyone in the room looked at him shocked, Vio saying the name they were all thinking of;
"Ganon." Shadow watched as Shelda snapped out of her shock and turned to Blue and asked,
"Did she tell you how to stop it from happening?"
"Yeah." He said, but he frowned as he added, "by being cryptic as fuck."
"What did she say?" Vio asked, "Maybe if we all put our minds to it, we might be able to figure it out." Shadow watched with the others as Blue remembered and repeated,
"' You must speak up for the dark light whom will be pushed aside in the final battle'"
Immediately, everyone looked at one of the two shadows in the room, but Blue answered their unasked assumption,
"Not them. I had thought the same thing, but she called them 'shadowlings' and said they weren't who she was talking about."
"Then who else could be referred to as 'dark light'?" Red asked, asking the question they all were thinking. Seeing movement in the corner of his vision, Shadow glanced over to see Vio rubbing his temple with a deep thoughtful expression masked by a pained one.
"The term 'dark light' might refer to someone we know who was either good at one point, or is good now but on the wrong team." Vio said thoughtfully before he rubbed his temple with his thumb and forefinger.
"You mean like Vaati?" Shelda asked, looking more to Shadow than to Vio, knowing the purple clad hero didn't exactly know about Vaati's real self. Shadow thought about that for a second, and answered her,
"Maybe. But after last time I don't think he wouldn't even have the strength to leave the Dark Realm." Shelda nodded in agreement and they were quiet at this as they continued brainstorming, but glancing between Vio and Blue, Shadow could see the exhaustion in both their eyes. Sighing, Shadow nudged Vio and said to him calmly,
"We can figure this out later. For now, you need to go back to bed. I can see the headache you got is not a pretty one, and you're clearly tired." Vio opened his mouth, protesting, but Shadow just simply nudged him again and again until Vio finally groaned in acceptance and got up, Shadow getting up right behind him, allowing Shelda to finish cleaning up Blue's mess as he helped Vio back to his own bed. When he got Vio comfortably back in his bed, Shadow turned around to see both Green and Red staring at him, a desperate look in their eyes as Red seemed to permanently attach to Green with his arms around the wolf's fluffy neck. Raising a eyebrow, Shadow looked at them as to why they were looking at him like that, but then figured it out and gave a soft smile to them and said,
"Red, if you're ok with it, help Green to your bed." Shadow watched as both their eyes lit up, and carefully both went back over to Red's bed, where Green settled at the foot of it and Red snuggled under, tucking his feet under Green's belly. Shaking his head at the two of them, Shadow went back to Blue's side and waited till Shelda finished cleaning up before saying to Blue,
"Get some sleep. Shelda and I will be downstairs if you need us." Blue snorted in response and said dryly,
"I am not sleeping any time soon." Shadow rolled his eyes and said as he left,
"Then just relax. We'll be back." Blue mumbled something under his breath, but Shadow ignored it as he made his way downstairs, Shelda right behind him. Once they got their, they saw neither Erune or her mother were there, but a basket of bread and a note saying they would be back soon indicated they went on a errand run. Sitting down on one of the chairs at the table, Shadow sat there with Shelda for a moment before the shadow girl broke it;
"What are we going to do?" Shelda asked quietly, so they weren't overheard from those upstairs. Shadow stared at the table as he tried to answer her question, but could only come up with one answer;
"I don't know." They both silent for a good few minutes, Shadow listening to the birds chirping outside and the humming of bugs echoing throughout the village until Shelda spoke up again,
"I have a theory." Shadow couldn't help but give a small smile as he said plainly,
"You always do." Shadow met Shelda's not amused face and couldn't help but snort in laughter before saying to her,
"Shoot." Shadow watched her with his head resting on his hand as she started,
"What if Din was talking about Green when she said 'dark light'?" Interested, Shadow asked her,
"That is a possibility, but I don't see why we'd try and keep him out of the battle in the first place."
"His curse." Shelda explained, "He can't do any form of heroic act without becoming a senseless beast. Fighting Ganon would easily count as a heroic act.
"We have already assumed that Twinrova would have taken his sword to Hyrule Castle, and even if they didn't, Death Mountain is to grand to search for it and go to the castle in time before the Dark Gate is opened. Which means Green will have to be in this state when we fight Ganon."
"… You have a point." Shadow said after a few moments of silence, thinking just as deeply ass Shelda was on this topic.
"And someone like Vio wouldn't be comfortable with the possibility of Green turning on us in the heat of the battle." He added, Shelda nodding in agreement.
"If I understand strategies correctly, they would probably have him keep watch, or even go look for his sword himself."
"And that could cause him to get captured."
"Exactly." They both went silent at this, neither of them where to go from here. Grabbing a piece of bread, Shadow slowly began to munch on it as the two of them thought of their next move, before anything else could go wrong.
