Time passes since the power in the heroes' ship went out, and they have stopped just short of Gasmoxia's atmosphere when Zam and Zem had killed power before they were incapacitated by accident following a botched attempt from Cortex to kill Coco, still angry with her for keeping news of their financial troubles to herself when she had planned to tell them at the right moment.
N. Brio is down in the ship's main power room, attempting to restore power to the ship before they reach Gasmoxia. He has successfully managed to remove the crowbar that Zem had wedged into the main power core, and is busy working on replacing and reconnecting the wires inside the power core.
Meanwhile, back in the main control room, Tawna is holding Cortex up by the arm as she and the rest of the group, even the normally cheerful Megumi, glare at him in anger with arms folded because of his attempt to kill Coco again.
"Well, Cortex, do you have anything you want to say to Coco?" Tawna angrily asks Cortex, demanding an apology from him over his actions.
"Other than she's a lying furball?" Cortex snarks, refusing to apologize, feeling like Coco deserves to die.
"No, Cortex!" Tawna exclaims in annoyance as she raises her fist to Cortex's face. "Try again!"
"Fine." Cortex groans before quickly mumbling under his breath, "Coco, I'm sorry."
"I'm sorry, what did you say?" Tawna asks, demanding that he speak up. "I didn't quite get that."
Seeing Tawna reaching for a nearby ray gun in the event Cortex gives another wrong answer, Cortex shouts, "All right! I'm sorry, okay!? There! You happy now?"
"Very." Coco says with glee, further annoying Cortex. "Thank you, Cortex."
Tawna then lets go of Cortex, dropping him to the ground as she turns to the group and says to them, "Well, now that we've taken care of that, there's the other matter we have to tend to."
"Right!" Coco exclaims as she and the rest of the group start to head out of the control room and in the direction of where they are keeping Zam and Zem.
Cortex attempts to follow the group, but his path is quickly blocked by Ami, who scolds, "No, Cortex! You stay here! We're not about to let you hurt Coco again!"
"Oh, for God's sake, Ami!" Cortex groans as Ami heads out of the control room. "I wasn't going to—"
Before he can finish speaking, Ami closes the door behind her, leaving Cortex alone in the control room, with the exception of King Chicken, who wanders around Cortex and pecks at his feet.
"Great." Cortex grumbles. "Alone in here with a chicken. How humiliating."
Elsewhere, Zam and Zem are tied up in the ship's storage compartment, and are still unconscious after accidentally being blasted by a laser blaster Cortex had on his person when he attempted to kill Coco.
The group then enters the storage compartment and crowds around Zam and Zem. Liz approaches the pair and dumps a bucket of ice cold water on the two of them, causing them to slowly wake up.
"Wake up, you two!" Ami shouts as the two of them continue to wake up from their unconscious state.
"Wha...?" Zem groggily says as he and Zam come to before noticing the heroes surrounding them with unamused looks on their faces. "What's going on here?"
"Well, you should know darn well what's going on!" Tawna exclaims to the two of them. "You two killed the power to our ship!"
Zem chuckles and says to Zam, "A clever lass, isn't she, Zam?"
"Silence!" Tawna shouts, getting their attention. She then groans and wonders aloud, "Why is it we always have to deal with you two mooks whenever we go on a big adventure like this?"
"Mooks? That's a rather derivative term, wouldn't you agree?" Zem asks the group in a sophisticated manner, prompting everyone's faces to light up with surprise. "I believe the proper term to refer to us by would be, 'loyal working-class servants to a higher authority.'"
"Wait." Crunch says in confusion. "We've never heard you speak in that fashion before."
"What's going on?" Spyro asks, puzzled. "Is this some kind of cheap trick or something?"
"No, my scaly pest." Zem tells him. "I may act all crass and vulgar, but in reality, it's all just a clever facade. Truth of the matter is, I'm actually quite intelligent."
"Oh, really?" Isabella asks Zem in disbelief. "Well then, if you're as smart as you say you are, then what's the square root of... 15,625?"
"125." Zem tells her without missing a beat.
Doing the equation on a calculator via her phone, Coco shows Isabella the results, prompting Isabella to say in amazement, "Wow. He's right."
Zem takes Isabella's hand and says to her, "Well, of course I'm right, madam. And I have to say, you sure are one attractive lass."
Isabella, disgusted, pulls her hand away from Zem and slaps him in the face, telling him with disgust, "Knock it off, stinky! I have a boyfriend!"
"Heh. The only thing that's stinky around these parts is my planet." Zem smugly replies. "You do-gooders wouldn't last two minutes on our planet before you passed out from all the toxic fumes."
Isabella then glares at Zem while Ami sighs and asks the group, "All right, what should we do with these two weirdos?"
"Well, we could just fry them right here, right now with our ray guns." Crunch quips.
"What? No!" Isabella exclaims. "We don't want people to think we're cruel like that!"
"Okay..." Liz wonders aloud, knowing violence won't solve the problem. "How about dropping them off at a nearby asteroid?"
"Nah." Coco replies.
"A neighboring galaxy?" Liz asks.
"No, Liz! We can't head away from Gasmoxia, not when we're this close!" Coco says to her in surprise. "Don't you remember? We need to stay on course, stop this alien invasion and get back to earth soon so we can find a good sponsorship to keep the races going."
"Oh, yeah." Liz says, remembering the time she and the others overheard Coco and Isabella's private conversation about their financial troubles. "Forgot about that."
As the group continues to discuss amongst themselves on what they should do with Zam and Zem, Megumi thinks to herself before her faces lights up as she gets an idea. She then addresses the group, calling out, "Wait, I've got a great idea!"
"Wait. Seriously?" Coco asks in surprise while the others sport surprised looks on their faces.
"Of course!" Megumi exclaims as she motions the group to follow her. "Guys, come with me. I know exactly what to do with these two."
"Really?" Tawna asks, curious as to what Megumi has just thought of. "You do?"
"Yeah! I'll tell you all about it in the control room." Megumi says as she leads Crash, Coco, Tawna and Isabella out of the storage compartment and towards the control room, before turning to the rest of the group and telling them, "In the meantime, the rest of you guard these two and keep them from leaving."
"Can do!" Spyro exclaims as he, Crunch, Ami, Liz and Koala Kong turn to Zam and Zem and surround them so they don't try to escape, even though they're tied up and have no way of possibly fighting back.
"So... you like jazz?" Zem meekishly asks as he glances at the watchful eyes of Spyro, Crunch, Ami, Liz and Koala Kong.
Back in the control room, King Chicken continues to casually wander around the room like an ordinary chicken, while Megumi has just explained her plan for Zam & Zem to Crash, Coco, Tawna and Isabella. Cortex, having overheard Megumi's plan, is quick to disagree with her.
"What?!" Cortex shouts, baffled. "Seriously? That's the best plan you could come up with for those two clowns?!"
"Well, do you have any better ideas, Cortex?" Tawna asks him.
"Yes, I do, actually." Cortex replies. "Kill them! Launch them into the vacuum of space! Anything but have them help us with our mission!"
Megumi, trying to calm Cortex down by reaching out to rest her hand on his shoulder, tells him, "I think you're missing the point here, Cortex."
"I'm missing the point? I'M missing the point?!" Cortex snaps at her before she can lay a finger on him. "If anyone's missing the point here, it's you!"
"Hey! Don't snap at Megumi like that!" Tawna barks at Cortex. "I'm sure she knows what she's doing." Crash nods in agreement.
"Yeah, I think you of all people would be a lot nicer to the girl who gave you your trophies way back when!" Isabella scolds Cortex. Cortex groans, folds his arms and turns his back to the group, grumbling to himself underneath his breath.
With Cortex subdued, Crash, Coco, Tawna and Isabella turn back to Megumi, with Coco asking her, "Now then, you were saying, Meggy?"
Megumi then addresses the group, telling them, "Anyways, these two are working for Oxide and Velo, right?"
"Right." Coco replies as she and Crash nod in agreement.
Megumi continues, "And thus, the two of them would pretty much know Gasmoxia inside and out, correct?"
Slowly catching on, the group's faces light up as Tawna enthusiastically addresses Megumi, telling her, "Wait a second. Wait just a second here. I think I know where you're going with this, Megumi! So you're telling us..."
"Yep!" Megumi cheerfully replies. "Since they know Gasmoxia so well, then maybe we could convince the two of them to help us in our cause!"
"Pfft. Please." Cortex scoffs, getting everyone's attention. "Your plan is flawed. These fools will most likely turn us over to Oxide who would then turn us over to Velo the second we arrive at Gasmoxia!"
"Oh, I highly doubt that, Cortex!" Megumi exclaims to Cortex, debunking his claim.
"Oh, really?" Cortex snarks as he turns back to the group and approaches Megumi. "And just what, pray tell, do you plan on doing to force them to help us, huh?"
"Simple. I'm going to make them an offer they won't be able to refuse!" Megumi says with determination as she motions everyone to follow her back to the storage compartment.
As Crash, Coco, Tawna and Isabella follow Megumi back to the storage compartment, Coco asks herself in disbelief, "Megumi coming up with an ingenious plan? I thought that was more of your thing, Tawna."
"Hey, don't look at me." Tawna says to Coco with the same disbelief. "I'm just following her lead with this."
"Oh, this I gotta see." Cortex snarks as he follows them out of the control room.
Eventually, Crash, Coco, Cortex, Tawna, Isabella and Megumi make their way to the storage compartment, getting the attention of Spyro, Crunch, Ami, Liz, Koala Kong, Zam and Zem as they reenter.
"Oh, good. You're back." Spyro says as Megumi approaches Zam and Zem. "So what shall we do with these two clowns here?"
To the surprise of Spyro, Crunch, Ami, Liz and Koala Kong, Megumi unties Zam and Zem.
"Megumi!" Ami exclaims in surprise. "What are you doing?"
"Calm down, Ami." Coco reassures her. "Megumi knows what she's doing."
"Oh, thanks." Zem tells Megumi as he stretches his arms and gets up. "Now, if you'll excuse me, me and Zam here have to take you all and your vessel to Oxide. Can't have you messing up Velo's master plan after all."
"No, wait." Megumi tells them before they can take action. "What do you say we make a little deal here?"
"A deal? With you and your... unbearable cuteness?" Zem asks. "Ha! Don't make me laugh."
"We will not kill or bring any harm to you two, provided that you help is prevent Velo from carrying out his invasion on earth." Megumi tells the two of them.
"Me and Zam, help you?" Zem asks in disbelief before he and Zam laugh at Megumi's offer. "Ha! No way! Do as much harm as you want to us, but we'll never let you stop Velo! Never ever!"
"See? I told you it wouldn't work." Cortex tells Megumi as she turns to face the others.
"Oh, I'm not done yet, Cortex." Megumi tells him with determination. "Just sit back and watch while I break out the big guns on them!"
"Good." Cortex snarks. "Blast them to bits for all I care."
"No, Cortex." Tawna exclaims as Crash bonks him on the head. "Not literal guns!"
As Megumi turns back to the pair, Zem asks, "So, have you come back to beg for mercy?"
"No, but here's the best part of my deal." Megumi tells him with confidence.
"Look, I already told youse we don't want any part of your worthless deal!" Zem exclaims, starting to get annoyed with Megumi's resistance. "Now you can either come with us and we turn you over to Velo or I'll burp up a stench so foul, your fur will be singed off!"
"Just listen to me, okay?" Megumi says to him.
"Listen to your pitiful screams of agony?" Zem asks as he gets ready for a monster belch. "With pleasure! Here it comes!"
"If you help us stop Velo and Pinstripe..." Megumi starts to tell him.
"Three..." Zem starts to countdown.
"...I promise you from the bottom of my heart..." Megumi continues.
"Two..." Zem continues.
"... that me, Crash and everyone in this room..." Megumi continues.
"One..." Zem finishes before inhaling deeply, ready to let out a monster belch.
Megumi then finishes up, saying, "...will be your closest friends!"
The second he hears the word 'friends', Zem immediately stops and after a beat, gulps down the belch he was preparing to let out. He and Zam then sit there speechless, amazed at the thought of why the heroes they were ordered to stop would ever want to befriend the two of them.
"WHAT?!" Cortex exclaims in surprise and annoyance. "Friends? With these clowns?!"
Isabella then shushes Cortex and says to Cortex, "Shut up, Cortex! I think it's working. Look!"
"Wait." Zem says to Megumi, baffled and surprised. "You... you mean... you'll actually be friends with me and Zam? For real?"
"Yes, of course!" Megumi says to the two of them. "All you have to do is help us stop Velo and boom! You and Zammie got yourselves a whole new group of pals to mix and mingle with!"
"Wow." Zem says in awe. "Me and Zam... we... we never had any friends of any sort before..."
"So, what do you say?" Megumi asks as she extends her arm to Zem. "Are you in or not?"
After a beat, Zam smiles and gives Zem a thumbs up, prompting a smile from Zem as he takes Megumi's hand and shake it, telling her, "Alright, cutie! Count us in! We may be violating several Gasmoxian laws by helping you out, but in the end, it'll be worth it just to have some real friends for once!"
"Wow. Way to go, Megumi!" Ami happily exclaims in surprise as she and the others, sans Cortex applaud her for managing to get two lackeys of one of the most feared rulers of the galaxy to defect to their side effortlessly.
Cortex, stupified, calls out in annoyance, "Have you all lost your minds?!"
"Lost our minds?" Zem asks as he grabs Cortex and gives him a bear hug and a noogie. "Nonsense, new pal!"
"Play along, Cortex." Spyro sternly growls at Cortex, seeing him trying to resist. "For Megumi's sake."
Cortex sighs dejectedly and snarks with quite possibly the most deadpan expression and tone, "Yes. Woo-hoo. New friends. Yay, team."
As Zem continues to hug Cortex, the lights suddenly come on and the ship starts to move again, continuing its auto-pilot route to Gasmoxia.
"Oh, good!" Spyro exclaims. "Brio must've gotten the power back on!"
At that moment, N. Brio finds everyone in the storage compartment and says to them, "Everyone! We've made it! We've just entered Gasmoxia's atmosphere!"
"Well, in that case..." Coco says, knowing that they have finally reached their destination. "To the control room, everyone!"
With that, everyone exits the storage compartment and darts towards the control room.
