Elsewhere, Velo, Pinstripe, Geary, Oxide, a reluctant Zam & Zem, and the newly brainwashed Nitro Squad all enter the launch bay and, in pairs of two or three, approach their own special hovercrafts to use for the invasion, much like the ones Pinstripe and Geary used to steal the food from the two restaurants. Tawna is paired with Pinstripe, Ami is paired with Velo, Isabella is paired with Geary, Liz is paired with Oxide, and Megumi is to be paired with Zam and Zem, who glance at Megumi with looks of sadness and fear on their faces, seeing that the kind, innocent soul who convinced them to betray Velo and help them stop him in exchange for being their friends is being forced to act against her kind, innocent nature.
As the vessels containing hundreds upon hundreds of mutant food are brought into the launch bay, Velo cackles evilly and exclaims, "Perfect! Absolutely perfect! It's almost ready! Just one more vessel full of mutant food and we'll be ready to start this invasion!"
"Excellent!" Pinstripe exclaims with glee. "Shall me and Geary head down to those two grease traps to steal some more food?"
"I think you already know the answer to that." Velo says with a smirk, before turning to everyone and calling out, "Everyone, board your carriers and let's—"
"Wait!" Oxide exclaims, getting Velo's attention. "Wait just one second!"
Velo turns to see Oxide looking over Megumi, who is not armed with a ray gun. He then addresses Megumi, asking, "Megumi, where's your ray gun?"
"I do not have one in my possession, sir." Megumi replies in a robotic-like monotone voice.
"Well then, go down to the weapons vault and get another one." Oxide tells her, gesturing her in the direction of their weapons vault. "And be quick about it! We're almost ready to take off!"
"Yes, sir." Megumi replies, before leaving the launch bay and starting in the direction of the weapons vault.
Meanwhile, Spyro, Sparx and King Chicken continue to roam the halls of the mothership, looking for any sign of their friends. Eventually, they spot Megumi entering the mothership's weapons vault. Inside the vault, she grabs a ray gun identical to the one she had before Ami took it away for her own safety, out of fear that she could accidentally hurt someone with it. However, as she grabs the ray gun, she fails to notice a small warning sign next to it reading, 'WARNING! THIS RAY GUN HAS A MALFUNCTIONING POWER CORE. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT TURN THE POWER SETTING PAST 10. DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY MAY OCCUR. IF THIS HAPPENS, PLEASE DO NOT SUE US, OKAY? IT'S YOUR OWN FAULT IF YOU GET HURT.'
As Megumi exits the weapons vault and closes the door behind her, she turns and suddenly stops when sees Spyro in front of her.
"Oh, Megumi!" Spyro says to her in relief. "Thank goodness we found you!"
"Prisoner!" Megumi shouts as she aims her ray gun at Spyro. "What are you doing outside your cell?!"
"Whoa! Megumi!" Spyro exclaims in surprise. "What's gotten into you?!"
"Return to your cell at once or I will open fire!" Megumi continues to shout.
"Come on, Megumi!" Spyro exclaims, trying to get through to Megumi's kind and innocent center. "Don't you recognize me? I'm your friend, Spyro!"
"Friend?" Megumi exclaims. "You're no friend! You're a prisoner!"
Sparx, in an attempt to jog Megumi's memory, flies up in front of her face, just like he did aboard their space carrier while en route to Gasmoxia when King Chicken was chasing after him. He waves and does cute little tricks to try and get her to crack even the smallest of smiles, but to no avail, as Megumi, in her brainwashed state, swats Sparx away, causing him to hit the wall and injure him, going from his normal golden yellow color to his weakened blue color.
Spyro, noticing this, winces and whimpers before turning back to Megumi, who is about to pull the trigger on her ray gun.
"Okay, clearly this is not the Megumi we know and love." Spyro whimpers before shouting, "Run, Sparx! Run!"
Spyro then darts off away from the weapons vault, prompting Megumi to chase after him, firing her ray gun and shouting, "Stop! Get back to your cell at once!"
As Megumi and Spyro run off, Sparx tries to keep up with them, but due to his weakened state, has a hard time keeping up with the two of them, while King Chicken, as usual, just casually wanders around the halls, but in the direction that Spyro, Megumi and Sparx went.
Back in the launch bay, Zam and Zem, reluctantly waiting for Megumi to return so that they can board their hovercraft, hear the sound of faint rumbling coming from the hall leading towards the weapons vault, getting their attention. The two of them also hear Spyro and Megumi shouting in the distance, causing the pair to realize that Spyro is making an attempt to free Megumi from her mind control state.
Realizing that they should help Spyro out, Zem whispers to Zam, "Sounds like Spyro needs us, buddy." As Zam nods in agreement, Zem continues, "Time to work the ol' gross magic."
Zem then turns to Oxide, clears his throat, and puts his gross, idiotic façade back on as he asks, "Uh, Oxide?"
Oxide, aboard his hovercraft with Liz, sighs in annoyance, turns to Zem and asks, "What is it, Zem?"
"Zam here hasn't had his (burp!) breakfast yet, and he needs to go on a walk." Zem tells him while Zam jumps and prances around, barking as he does so.
"Seriously?" Oxide asks in annoyance. "You're telling me this now, when we're about to start our invasion?"
"Well... I didn't think it mattered until now." Zem mutters.
Oxide then clasps his thumb and index finger on his forehead, sighs in annoyance and tells Zem, "Fine, just go. And while you're at it, go get Megumi, board your hovercraft and meet us out here when you're finished."
As Zam and Zem start to leave the launch bay, Zem deactivates his gross, idiotic façade, turns to Zam and whispers, "It worked, Zam! Now let's go get Megumi and free the others!"
Seeing Zam and Zem leave the launch bay, Oxide sighs to himself in annoyance and mumbles, "Idiots."
Suddenly, everyone hears Megumi calling Velo from her own personal walkie-talkie, shouting, "Captain, sir? Come in, my captain!"
Velo then takes his walkie-talkie and replies, "Yes, Megumi? What is it?"
"One of the prisoners escaped!" Megumi shouts from the other end.
"What?!" Velo exclaims in shock. "Who?!"
"It's that purple dragon, and he's putting up some fight!" Megumi exclaims as Spyro shouts indistinctly.
"Spyro?!" Velo exclaims before shutting off his walkie-talkie. "But... how could he have possibly escaped from his inescapable prison?"
"Well, let's not just stand here wondering how he got out!" Pinstripe exclaims, charging up his arm cannon. "Let's get him!"
"No, Pinstripe! We don't have time!" Velo tells him, stopping Pinstripe in his tracks before he can even start to leave the launch bay. "We have to get going and start this invasion. Besides, Megumi, Zam and Zem will take care of it."
"Those clowns?" Pinstripe asks with doubt as he turns to Velo. "I dunno, Velo, I'm having serious doubts about those two."
"Quit your worrying, Pinstripe." Velo scoffs. "If they do try anything funny, they will be punished appropriately. In the meantime, you and Geary head back down to the restaurants and get this war started. One more load of food oughta give us enough mutants to poison all of earth!"
"Got it!" Pinstripe says as he takes Tawna by the hand and boards his hovercraft. "Come on, Geary. Time to bring out the big guns."
"Yes, sir." Geary replies as he and Isabella board their hovercraft. The two hovercrafts then fly out of the launch bay and down towards the two restaurants.
Running through the halls to try and find Spyro and Megumi, Zem shouts, "Spyro? Megumi? You in here?"
"We're in here, Zem!" Spyro calls out in the distance, getting their attention. The two of them race in the direction of where Spyro's voice came from.
As Zam and Zem round a corner, the two of them spot Spyro flying circles around Megumi, trying to disorient her while also dodging her ray gun blasts. "Whoa!" Zem exclaims, getting Spyro's attention. "What in the world is going on?"
"Stay still, you purple pest!" Megumi shouts as she continues to fire her ray gun, turning the intensity level from 1 to 3, firing slightly larger blasts from the ray gun.
"Do something, guys!" Spyro cries out as he continues to fly around Megumi, trying to get to the mind control chip on the back of her neck.
"Got it!" Zem shouts, before looking around for something to use against Megumi to try and free her from her brainwashed state. As he continues to ponder while Spyro continues to shout in a panic, Zam nudges Zem's leg, getting his attention. Zam then curls up into a ball and motions Zem to get him rolling.
"Oh, good idea, Zam!" Zem exclaims, before running away from Zam and then charging back towards him, using enough force to kick Zam and get him rolling along towards Megumi, with the intent to knock her over and remove her mind control chip while she's down.
However, Megumi spots Zam quickly approaching her and steps aside, causing Zam to miss her. Thankfully, Zam catches himself, turns around with the help of a curved corner along the wall and heads back towards Megumi. Noticing this, Megumi not only steps aside again, but this time, right as Zam rolls by her, she kicks him, sending him flying towards Zem, knocking him over with Zam laying atop him.
Spyro then flies directly in-between Megumi's legs, which were open wide enough to form an arch that Spyro could fly through, and attempts to do a loop around her and use his tail to deactivate her mind control chip. However, Megumi quickly catches onto this, grabbing Spyro's tail and tossing him away, prompting Zam to catch him before he hits the ground.
Spyro sighs in relief and says, "Thanks, Zam." prompting Zam to bark his way of saying 'no problem.' Unfortunately, their relief quickly dissipates as they spot Megumi slowly approaching them, with a glare in her eye as she turns her ray gun's intensity level up to 5. At this time, Sparx has managed to catch up with everyone and, seeing what is about to happen, whimpers with a look of fear on his face.
Pointing her ray gun at Spyro, Zam and Zem, Megumi sinisterly says, "All right then, if you will not return to your cell, then you leave me no choice but to kill you for your stubbornness!"
However, before Megumi can pull the trigger, something manages to catch her attention from the corner of her eye: King Chicken, who walks directly in front of Spyro, Zam and Zem and starts pecking at the ground, prompting a confused Megumi to ask, "What in the...? Where did you come from?"
Seeing Megumi distracted by King Chicken, Sparx takes the opportunity to free Megumi. Using whatever energy he has left, he winds up and launches into a charge, heading straight towards Megumi's mind control chip. He hits the chip with enough force to where it not only deactivates it and frees Megumi from her mind control state, but also injures him even further, going from his blue color to his weakened on-the-verge-of-death green color.
As Megumi feels the sting from her being released from mind control, both Sparx and the mind control chip fall down on the ground, with the chip bouncing along until it comes to a rest at Megumi's feet.
In a daze, Megumi, her eyes now back to their regular white with fuchsia pupils, looks around before noticing Spyro, Zam and Zem in front of her and groggily asking, "...Spyro? Zam? Zem? …Is that you?"
Seeing Megumi no longer under mind control, Spyro breathes a sigh of relief and says, "Oh, thank God. Yes, Megumi, it's us. And I have to say, you gave us quite a scare just now."
"I... I did?" Megumi asks in confusion as Zam and Zem get up from off the ground. "But I could never scare anyone. I..."
She eventually looks down and spots the detached mind control chip at her feet. She picks it up, examines it and, remembering when Pinstripe forcefully attached said chips to her and the rest of the Nitro Squad to do Velo's evil bidding, acting against her cute and bubbly personality in doing so, Megumi's confused and concerned demeanor slowly turns into one of silent, seething anger, something very rare for her.
As Megumi's mood worsens, Spyro, Zam and Zem look on with concern as Spyro asks, "Uh, Megumi... are you feeling okay?"
Seeing Megumi's seething anger grow into a face of pure rage with bloodshot eyes and clinched teeth, Spyro whimpers, "Oh, this is not going to be good..."
Seconds later, Megumi, for the first time in her life, snaps and explodes with pure rage, screaming, "I'm going to kill him. I'm going to KILL HIM! THAT DAMN RAT IS DOG MEAT WHEN I GET MY HANDS ON HIM FOR WHAT HE DID TO ME AND MY FRIENDS!"
"Whoa! Megumi, calm down!" Spyro exclaims in shock, knowing that he's never seen Megumi this furious before, while Zam and Zem slowly back away in fear. "It's not like you to shout and scream like this!"
"Can you believe this, Spyro?!" Megumi continues to scream. "That rat has some nerve! As if him nuking the earth and continuously harassing Tawna wasn't evil enough, NOW he has the gall to actually ASSAULT me and forcefully brainwash me and my closest friends!"
"Wait, Pinstripe did what?" Spyro asks in shock.
"Yes, Spyro. It's true." Zem adds while Megumi breathes heavily and angrily. "Pinstripe brainwashed Megumi and the girls. Me and Zam were right there when it happened."
"Okay, him brainwashing you guys is one thing, but actually HURTING someone as kind and innocent as you? That's going too far!" Spyro exclaims in anger, turning back to Megumi.
"Boy, you can say THAT again, Spyro!" Megumi shouts, still well beyond furious over Pinstripe's actions. "Why, by the time I'm done with him, he'll be begging for more than just mercy! I'll—"
Eventually, her anger subsides when she turns to see Sparx lying on the ground, weakened and possibly on the verge of death due to all the energy he put in to free Megumi from her mind control.
Megumi gasps in horror and, as she bends down and gently picks up Sparx in her palms, whimpers, "Oh, no! What have I done, Spyro? I didn't mean to hurt your little friend here."
"No, no, it's not your fault, Megumi." Spyro reassures her, but still showing serious concern for his little pint-sized pal. "You wouldn't have done it if you weren't brainwashed."
"Is... is there any way we can heal him?" Megumi fearfully asks him, still guilty that she accidentally hurt him while in her mind control state, starting to get a little teary-eyed.
"Well, he always perks right back up if he eats butterflies." Spyro tells her, but still saddened at the fact that there might not be any butterflies where they're at, so there couldn't possibly be any way they could save Sparx, no matter what they tried.
"Butterflies?" Zem asks, getting their attention. "I know where we can get some butterflies for your little bug friend!"
"Really, Zem? You do?" Megumi asks, wiping away whatever tears are starting to form on her face. "Where?"
"Why, we have lots of butterflies in our indoor garden!" Zem tells them while Zam nods in agreement.
"You guys have an indoor garden aboard your mothership?" Spyro asks in disbelief, thinking that such a thing couldn't possibly exist.
"Of course!" Zem replies as he motions the two of them to follow him and Zam. "Come on! It's this way!"
As Spyro and Megumi start to follow Zam and Zem, Megumi looks down at Sparx and tells him, "Hang in there, Sparx. We'll heal you as soon as we can."
