A Mother's Love
Chapter Eight: Rizzoli and Isles Date PT1

Constance's body was buzzing with energy.

She had been anticipating her get together with Angela since she had proposed it yesterday but it was now, as she walked side by side by the relaxed Jane that she realized that she was nervous. She shouldn't be nervous and yet, she was.

"Penny for your thoughts Constance?" Jane asked, her hands in her pockets.

"Can you tell me a little more about Angela?" Constance asked before she blinked.

That…was not the question she wanted to ask.

"Sure, it would help if you guys head something in common," Jane said. Constance could see a growing smile appear on Jane's face and wondered why that was.

It could be the younger woman was thinking about her daughter.

Yes, that must be it.

"What is her favorite…um…movies?" Constance asked hesitantly.

"Favorite movies…The Godfather hands down. Scarface, Beverly Hills Cop, 1 and 2 specifically, Indiana Jones, all of them…I think that's it so far," Jane answered.

"OH good, we have similar tastes," Constance said after a moment of thought. "Except the Godfather Part III. It was so boring."

"I thought they only made two Godfather movies," Jane said but Constance knew she was kidding.

"Nervous?" Jane asked.

"It is obvious?" Constance asked.

"Hm…Kind of. Your face is normal but your eyes are frantic," Jane replied. "Relax. It's just Ma," Jane told her. "The same woman we had dinner and milkshakes with. The same woman that you've hung out with the last few days…The same one that's probably as nervous as you," Jane said.

Constance looked at her in alarm. "Nervous? Why would she be nervous?" the older woman asked.

"Ma's always nervous when something big is happening. Nervous and excited. She seemed both when I left," Jane answered.

Constance couldn't help but smile slightly. It was nice to know that she rattled Angela as much as she was rattled by Angela.

"She shouldn't be so nervous," Constance told Jane. "This is j-just to friends going out to dinner together…Nothing more, nothing less."

"Hm…Maybe," Jane said before she whispered "Or it could be more if you allow out…"

Once again, Constance found her head turning sharply to Jane, who kept her head forward with a lazy grin. "What are you insinuating?" Constance asked her with a raised eyebrow.

"Hm?" Jane hummed in confusion as she looked back at her.

"N-Nothing…I must have misheard," Constance grumbled out but she was sure she heard Jane say what she said.

The two stopped at Angela's door and Jane said "Well, here we are. Mama Rizzoli's place. Let me slip inside and see if she's ready to go."

Constance nodded and Jane slipped into the Guest House.

Constance thankfully didn't have to wait long as the door opened moments later but when Constance lifted her head to smile at Angela, she felt her heart practically skip a beat.

Angela was at the door way of her home wearing a modest black dress that seemed to hug her curvy body in all the right places, her hair was let down and looked fuller than it did when it was in a ponytail.

But what Constance wasn't expecting was the smile on Angela's face. It lit up everything about her tenfold.

Now Constance felt even more nervous than she had previously.

"Hello Constance," Angela said with a smile. "You look amazing."

Constance stared at her, unable to form a coherent sentence. She then noticed Jane behind Angela, who was making a motion to breath. Constance took a breath and said to Angela "You look wonderful."

"Really? In this old thing?" Angela asked with a humored tone but Constance could see Angela's cheeks reddening from the compliment.

"Actually do forgive me. I understated your attire. Let me rectify that. You look fantastic Angela," Constance replied with a small grin.

"You sure know how to make a woman feel beautiful," Angela replied, her cheeks reddening more.

Constance already felt victorious for pulling out a blush from the other woman but seeing Jane nod in approval made her realize she was doing great, despite her nervousness.

"So what's the game plan tonight you two?" Jane asked, which prompted Constance and Angela to look to the detective.

"Well to eat dinner of course and then, who knows," Angela answered. Constance heard the teasing behind the tone but she was curious as to where it came from.

"We should get a move on. I do not wish to be late to our friendly dinner," Constance said.

"Oh! Right!" Angela exclaimed before she gave Jane a hug. "Catch you later sweetheart," Angela said with a smile.

"Have fun Ma," Jane replied before she looked to Constance and said with a small grin "Have her home at a decent time Miss Isles."

Constance nearly snorted at this but said "I'll have her home at a decent time."

"Good. Have fun kids," Jane said with a smile before she shut the door.

"Jane always makes these types of jokes when I go out," Angela said with an amused sigh before she turned to her and asked "Well then Miss Isles, shall we get going?"

Ten minutes passed since Angela and Constance left and Maura had just finished setting up her reservation at Blu's and she couldn't help but feel giddy.

She had apologized to Jane and now they were going out to dinner to spy on their parents and their potential date. She never expected for any of this to happen when Paddy was shot.

The giddiness faded from Maura and suddenly, shame filled her being. Why was she so giddy? Paddy was still in the hospital, she was still conflicted on her feelings regarding the man and the mission she, Korsak, Frost and Jane had gone on.

Jane…

Her beautiful, kind-hearted detective.

The woman that constantly had her back from day one. The woman she had inadvertently given her heart to.

The woman she had hurt.

She had said so many cruel things and had Jane done the same to her, she wasn't sure if she could have forgiven Jane but Jane had forgiven her. Despite the hurt she had caused to Jane. She just couldn't understand it.

She knew from their night together that Jane missed her and loved her. Was that all Jane needed? It didn't make any sense and it only made Maura feel ashamed for her attitude to the woman she loved.

She acted so belligerent. So aggressive and argumentative. It wasn't right for her to be rewarded for how she acted to Jane by taking the other woman out to dinner. This was a mistake. She shouldn't have accepted this. She needs to stop this. She needs to find a better way to atone for her mista-

"If we're going to fix it, let's just fix it together…Please?" Jane's words stopped her in her tracks, the panic she felt slowly subsiding.

No, she shouldn't run from this. Jane wanted to fix this together and her feeling the urge to back out due to the guilt was not fair to Jane. She had to face what she had done to Jane head on, not back away from it like a coward.

She then heard a knock on the door behind her and glanced at it to see Jane, dressed in a very nice black business suit with a blue button down shirt, looking at her with an expectant look. Maura walked to the door and opened it and said "You look as lovely as always."

"Thanks," Jane said with a small grin.

"The reservation is confirmed. All I need to do is get ready to go," Maura said.

Jane raised an eyebrow. "You're not going to go in that?"

Maura blinked and looked down at her attire. It was a simple blue colored Dion Lee Pointelle Corest Dress, a dress that had a corset as the torso and detachable long sleeves, and black heels. "Do you think it's too little?" Maura asked.

"I think you look like a runway model in it. AKA, fantastic," Jane replied with a smile. Maura blushed. She had already worn it to another affair recently and didn't make a habit of wearing the same thing again so soon after the first time.

But for Jane "I suppose this could work," Maura said with a smile.

"Awesome," Jane said with a confident grin. Maura's smile faltered when she saw Jane's grin melt into an unsure smile as she said "Hey Maura…Thanks for wanting to do this with me. I know it's been rocky lately with my fuck-ups but I really appreciate you."

"It's my fault that it's rocky," Maura told her gentle as she walked to Jane and placed a hand on her right forearm. "This is scary admittedly. Being so disconnected from you. Being so unsure…But we'll work through it together. Just like you said."

Jane nodded in agreement as she said "Yeah, together…"

Maura smiled.

"Now let's go spy on our mothers."

Angela felt floored.

When Constance had told her where they would be going, Angela thought it would be some quality but it was gorgeous. The restaurant was on the 4th floor of the Ritz-Carlton building in downtown Boston, which gave it the perfect view of the city with its large windows and had an open bar to boot.

Angela felt a little out of sorts at the location but at the same time, she felt touched that Constance would bring to such a magnificent place. "Ah, Constance Isles. It's good to see you again an outside of that dreadful hospital bed to boot," a blonde haired, brown-eyed woman that looked a little older than her and Constance, mostly likely the Maître d' of the restaurant, said with a bright smile.

"Ah Charlotte," Constance said with open arms as they air-kissed each side of each other's faces. "It's good to see you again too Char. I see business is booming as usual."

"It is. We've been horrifyingly busy but it's always good to see a friendly face," Charlotte replied before the taller woman looked to Angela and said "And you must be Angela."

Angela was surprised but nodded and said "That's me."

"Constance told me she was bringing a guest with her but I had no idea she was so attractive," The woman said with a scandalous wink, which caused Angela to laugh but not before noting the blush and awkward look on Constance's face.

"Well you two, let me get into my business mood. Ahem…Welcome to Blu, would you like your normal table?" Charlotte asked Constance, who nodded in reply. Charlotte led them to a seat farther down the restaurant until they passed a divider which had a single circular table beside a large window with two lit candles, a champagne bottle in a bucket of ice and two wine glasses with champagne poured in them.

"Your table ladies. Our waiter will be with you momentarily with the menus. You two have fun but not too much fun," Charlotte said with a wink as she walked off, leaving Constance and Angela in front of the table.

"Finally, I thought she would never leave," Constance said with a small sigh. "I love her but she can be a handful at times." Angela watched as Constance strolled to the chair to the left of the table and pulled it out and looked at her expectantly.

Angela flushed and sat down in the chair, where Constance pushed it in moments later before she made her way across the table to sit. "How long have you two known each other?" Angela asked.

"I've known her since high school," Constance said. "Was my best friend until I left for France. Stayed in touch all throughout college and our young adult years up until I lost contact with her. We had just re-touched based a three years back after my divorce."

"Divorce?" Angela questioned.

"Arthur and I divorced three years ago," Constance said.

Angela frowned. Not only to hear that Constance had gone through something similar to her but because she was somewhat happy to know she was single.

How annoying.

"Was it amicable at least?" Angela asked.

"As amicable as it could be when involving Maura's true parentage," Constance said with a hint of a bitter tone. "We fought about it constantly but he just could never understand why I fought against telling her. I just wanted to keep it in the past but every time I did, something would cause it to rear its ugly head…" Constance explained with a sigh.

Angela's frowned deepened before she reached over and placed a hand on top of Constance's. Constance's eyes radiated with surprise before that faded away into calm as a slow smile appeared on her face. "Thank you," Constance said.

"Anytime," Angela replied with a growing smile. "I know how it feels when your past keeps showing up."

"In that case, that is something else we have in common," Constance said with a smile.

Angela chuckled.

"So, how did the delicate situation go? Good I hope?" Constance asked.

"It went pretty badly admittedly," Angela said. She didn't want to think about her earlier blow up at Frank. She didn't want to think about Frank at all. "To clarify, the "delicate" situation was about my divorce."

"Oh no," Constance murmured but Angela noticed that there was a flash of something in Constance's eyes after the brief sadness that had appeared.

What was that?

"I'm sorry you're going through that," Constance said sincerely. "I know how annoying the process is so if you want me to help you get a good lawyer, I will lend you mind."

Angela couldn't help but laugh, which caused a confused look to appear on Constance's face which looked cute to Angela. "You are fantastic," Angela said after she calmed down her laughter. "But no, all he wants to do is annul our marriage."

"Annul your marriage?" Constance asked. "That is very…extreme and from what Maura told me about your family, you are catholic right? So that means annulling the marriage would make your children bastards…Right?"

Angela nodded.

"How dare he?" Constance questioned with an angered look in his eyes, which surprised Angela greatly. She wasn't expecting such anger to come from the normally calm woman. "Despite my turbulent relationship with Arthur, we never had the idea to annul our marriage and from what I've seen with Jane, you have been a wonderful mother Angela and while I may only know Frankie and Tommy in passing, I bet they are wonderful as well because of you. If all he can see in them are something tied down to you instead of children, then he shouldn't deserve the title of Father," Constance said angrily.

Angela stared at her long and hard and felt a slow, almost warm, smile form on her face. "Really?" she asked.

"Really," Constance said before she blinked, suddenly flustered. "That was rather forward of me. I-I do apologize."

Angela let out another laugh and said "No apologies needed…I mean it. Thank you Constance."

Angela was surprised when she felt Constance's hand rest on top of hers. "Anytime," Constance replied softly.

"Hello, I'm Stephan and I'll be your waiter this evening," A voice said from beside them, which caused them to jump in surprise and look to the young brunette male, their hands separating and all Angela wanted to do was take Constance's hand again.
