Enjoy the chapter.
"So you made a suit. Escaped from the Talibans -"
"The Ten Rings. Completely different group of people. Come on, kiddo. When's the last time you watched the news?"
"Hello. I've been MIA for forever and then coma. Anywho, you're telling me it was Obidiah that ordered a hit on you..."
"Yup."
"Knew he was a piece of shit. And he's dead right? Like not in prison dead but dead dead. Cause if not -"
"Oh he's dead dead. Literally fried and six feet under."
"Great. So now there's a Russian asshole who's trying to kill you?"
"No, he's dead now. Just last night actually."
"So that partially explains why Nick Fury came to see me then. Makes sense now."
"Wait."
Semira Stark watched her brother as the multitude of emotions flickered across his face. It would have been amusing if there wasn't anger flashing in his eyes. His lips thinned as she practically saw the gears churning in his head.
"What do you mean Fury came to talk to you? How do you know him?" His voice was dangerously low and brown eyes narrowed.
Semira was slightly taken aback by how serious the conversation turned. She had never seen her brother so angry before.
"Jeez, Tony. This was the first time I talked to the man. He just came to talk and asked how I was feeling," she replied, a small smile on her face as she reached over to the bedside table and grabbed a small stack of photos. "Look he even gave me a few pictures of Howard back in the day."
Tony stilled as his eyes landed on the prints in her hand before looking back at her.
"Since when do you call dad Howard?"
The smile that was on Semira's face faded as her brow furrowed in thought, realizing what she had just said herself. It felt so familiar to say their dad's first name. Natural even. As if she's been saying it for years.
"I don't know..."
The silence between them was unsettling until she heard Tony let out a sigh.
"I'm sorry, Semi. Don't worry about it. You're brain'll eventually catch up. You're alive and that's all that really matters. With everything that's happened, I want to make sure you stay safe."
His lips turned upwards but fell as he saw the solemn look on her face.
"Tony, I shouldn't even be alive. I read the medical logs. The condition I was in -" she said, pausing mid sentence. Her eyes broke away from Tony's and she looked out into the distance of the Manhattan city skyline, courtesy of her penthouse view. Tones of purple and pink tinged the sky. The lights of the city buildings clashing against the colors.
Semira got up from the lush sofa, each step leading towards the glass wall. The small shining lights collectively creating a scene that was beautiful in it's own right. Though it wasn't as beautiful as it would be without the artificial lights.
And it was as if that thought triggered something within her.
She was no longer in the comfort of her penthouse. Instead she was standing in a small clearing, trees surrounding her on all sides. The constant breeze tussled her long curls in an uneven fashion as her eyes took in the height of the trees leading to the night sky. The dark canvas above was ablaze with the moon and the stars that stretched infinitely.
It was incredible.
And incredibly familiar.
"Semira."
That voice.
Her head whipped around to see a man not less than a foot away from her. Shoulders broad against his white shirt and brown khakis. The natural star light hit his face so well she could make out his blue eyes and blond hair.
"Semi -"
With a blink of her eyes, she was brought back to the sight of the city skyline. She whirled around to face Tony, a look of concern on his face as he watched her.
"How about we just take a nice vacation, huh? You, me, Pepper, and Happy. Rhodey too if he decides to come along for once. Destination is your pick."
A small smile made it's way on her face, however, she wasn't able to shake off what she just envisioned.
"I'm into visiting a couple countries in Europe and Africa actually. Mind if I create the itinerary?"
"Knock yourself out kiddo. I've been meaning to go to Marseille."
"Speaking of which, you still owe me a Bugatti."
Silence.
"I'll always take a Koenigsegg. I heard Sweden's lovely this time of year."
"Bugatti it is," Tony said, clapping his hands together. "And while we're picking out your new baby, you can tell me all about your meeting with Nick Fury."
