Jane silently thanked god that their kids were as much of sleepyheads like she was and that no one except for Maura was up before nine on a day off. The night had been short after all and she padded into the kitchen to make some coffee and prepare breakfast, while her wife was still in the yoga room.
Sophie was the first of the girls to appear and they silently greeted each other with a smile. "So, you are going to the cinema today?" Jane asked and placed some cutlery onto the table.
"Yes. Is it okay?" Sophie yawned and stretched, and Jane smiled. It was a typical Saturday morning at the Rizzoli-Isles household, and she enjoyed these immensely.
"Sure. What movie are you going to see?" she asked and took a sip of her coffee.
"We are going to watch Vertical limits." Sophie replied.
"Can I have some coffee?" the girl asked, eyeing Janes steaming mug. "I'm almost 16. My birthday is next week!" she underlined her question and Jane chuckled, glad that Maura joined them to help her with this decision. The doc hat strict rules yet Jane managed to sneak in some unhealthy food as Maura called it on a regular basis.
"I'm definitely getting older. I had my problems to do the Sirsasana this morning." She stated while walking to the fridge to grab some Orange juice. Jane had no clue what the doc was talking about but gave an empathetic smile. "Well, I didn't have the feeling that you are getting old tonight." She hid a smirk behind her mug and grinned when Sophie made an "Ewww." noise.
"Please!" she exclaimed. "I don't want to hear such things."
Maura and Jane chuckled. "Just because we are old" Jane said and shot Maura an amused glance "it doesn't mean that we can't have sexual intercourse."
Sophie gasped. "Who calls sex that?" she shrieked, and Maura made a face. "Me! And if you both looked it up you would find that it's a valuable expression for sex."
Julia was the last to arrive with a yawn. "Is it morning already? I could have slept for some more hours. Is breakfast ready?" she asked.
"I'm just trying to get some coffee." Sophie informed her and Julia stated that it was a good idea.
The brunette glanced at Maura who nodded. "But only half a cup and if you take lots of milk." She said.
R&I
Jane waved the girls goodbye as she stood in the hallway, waiting for Maura to get ready for their Valentines dinner. She had booked a table at their favorite restaurant and was looking forward to a steak. While waiting she glanced at her reflection in the mirror next to the wardrobe.
The brunette had chosen black slacks, a white oxford-shirt and a matching jacket. just the right style for Joes steak house she decided while checking the slight make-up on her face.
Maura appeared in the reflection, wearing a beautiful dress and the necklace she had received from Jane for Valentines day. "I told the girls to call when they want to come home." Jane told her, turning around to take a better look at her beautiful wife.
"You're gorgeous Jane." Maura said as they moved into an embrace.
"So are you Maur."
"Sometimes I still wonder how I got so lucky." Maura stated and Jane grinned. "Same here."
They exchanged a kiss and smiled at each other. Then Jane opened the door for Maura and took her hand to walk to the car.
R&I
There were many people in front of the cinema when they arrived. Julia had called her earlier, just when they were about to leave the restaurant and it had been perfect timing to pick them up on their way home.
Janes eyes scanned the crowd until she spotted Sophies blonde ponytail. She was standing in the midst of a group of 7 people and they chatted lightly and laughed. It was cold and Jane decided to text her that they were here.
She watched Sophie pull out her phone and say goodbye to her friends. The door in the back opened and their daughter came in.
"Where is Julia?" she asked, and the blonde girl huffed at the back seat. "Walked off with Amanda. They said that they needed to use the bathroom and meet that they would meet us outside."
Maura's hand came to rest on Janes thigh as the detective tensed. "I'll call her." Maura said and pulled out her own phone to dial the number. At the same time the other door opened, and Julia hopped in.
"Sorry, I got held up." She said with a grin which led Jane to assume that they hadn't just needed to pee. On one side she was glad that her daughter was happy. On the other it scared her to think that Julia had reached an age, where she could develop a love life.
Maura's hand was still on her thigh and she cupped it with her own grumbling. "Its okay honey." Maura smiled to her. "How was the movie?"
Jane listened absentmindedly to the conversation between their daughters and her wife, focusing onto the dark streets while driving.
"Can Amanda come over to do some homework tomorrow?" Julia asked and Jane flinched. "Its Sunday, baby. Since when do you do homework on Sunday?" she huffed while Maura said yes.
"Oh Great! I'm gonna text her right now. And I know that its Sunday ma. But I'm getting close to graduation. So, I need to study more."
What a lame excuse Jane thought and then chuckled amused. She was aware of the fact that she couldn't prevent anything anyways. And it didn't matter if she liked it or not, her girl would grow up. She would have relationships and it was possible that she didn't like her partners. But she couldn't forbid anything. Just support her, no matter how hard it was.
They drove home, and when their favorite song played on the radio, Jane turned up the volume and everybody sang and danced along until Jane turned off the engine.
R&I
"Can we go on a camping trip this summer?" Julia asked the next morning. Maura, who still wasn't a fan of camping glared at her daughter in mischief.
"Where would you like to go?" Jane asked happily.
"Dunno, maybe the place we stayed last year. Only on the other side of the lake."
"What about Amanda?" Maura asked hopefully.
"She could come with us. I can share a tent with her and Sophie shares with Will."
The boy was sitting in his chair, munching on his breakfast. "Camping!" he said with a dreamy smile.
Maura rolled her eyes. Sophie didn't protest but continued to eat in silence.
Jane glanced at Maura, torn between her excitement and between Maura's discomfort. "Well, I think we'll talk it through and let you know then." She decided. "That usually means no!", Sophie spoke up in a neutral manner. The doc rolled her eyes again and huffed. "We could take the decision together. Everybody who is against the Camping trip raises their hand." Hers was the only one going up. Jane noticed how Sophie averted her eyes to her muesli bowl while keeping her hand down.
Maura raised an eyebrow when Jane asked who was in favor of the trip and all kids and she raised an arm. Maura shrugged. "Guess its settled then." Jane said in her dark voice and stood to take some dishes to the dish washer.
R&I
The brunette was hovering the hall, glancing at her watch. Maura, who was sitting on the sofa, shook her head. "You are even more nervous than Julia." She stated.
"Yes, because I hope that Amanda isn't a jerk. I want to like her. My daughter is in love with her."
"That's exactly the point Jane. Julia has to like her. Not you." Maura winked and joined Jane who was still pacing the floor. "Why don't you help me make some sandwiches for the girls?"
Jane huffed and Will who was sitting nearby playing mimicked her huffing. She was clearly his role model right now and he followed her everywhere. Jane scooped him up and planted some kisses on his red cheeks. "Thank god your not a teenager yet." She told him while following Maura into the kitchen.
He giggled and wiggled his legs. The brunette placed him onto a chair and rolled up her sleeves. They had already become a perfect team in the kitchen and Jane wordlessly took out some paprikas to slice them. Maura was taking care of the bread meanwhile.
"I just don't want her to hurt Julia. That's all." Jane mumbled grumpily. "I know Jane. But we talked about it the other day. You cant prevent this from happening." Maura sighed and padded over to the brunette to wrap her arms around her. She nuzzled her face into Janes neck and Jane smiled.
"I love you Maur. I'm not sure if I would survive this without your help."
"You would Jane. But that's not the point. The point is, that we would both be lost without each other in many things."
"Uh, getting cheesy again huh?" Jane teased her and Maura nudged her. "You seem to be bad influence on me." She teased and let go to finish the sandwiches.
