R&I
"Last day before holiday. Yay!" Sophie stated happily when walking into the kitchen. Jane watched her silently and Maura smiled at her. The other two were already setting the table for breakfast and Will was excitedly waiting in his chair.
He wiggled his feet trying to say the word holiday, but it always came out differently than it was supposed to be.
Jane had warmed up to the idea of moving back to Boston but hadn't told Maura so yet. Thinking that it could cause some problems with the kids though she wanted to wait. The girls might not be happy, especially Sophie who had begun dating Brian. Moving 400 miles away was certainly not her wish.
She decided to talk with Frankie later. Tonight, they would pack for their travel to visit Angela.
"When's the flight tomorrow?" Maura asked as if reading her mind. Jane had booked them on a flight at 9am because it had been one of the less which still had enough tickets left and said so, while sitting down to the table.
"Ugh! That means that we must raise early. On a holiday day!" Julia protested and Maura laughed. "You have plenty of days to sleep in afterwards." She reminded their daughter who brightened up a bit.
Jane could only hope that Angela was prepared mentally for the lots of them. Her mother had visited them plenty of times in New York. But having four kids alone was probably going to be a challenge.
Rolling her eyes and smirking she finished her breakfast quickly because she had some paperwork which needed to be done before leaving for a few days.

Frankie walked into the bullpen right behind her. He greeted her with a smile, and she decided to ask him about Boston right away. She didn't want him to feel left out. Of course, it had been his decision to move to New York. Yet Jane felt guilty for thinking about moving back and leaving him behind.
When she had stated Maura's idea and that she was interested Frankie scratched his head. "Back to Boston? Have you asked the kids?"
Jane rolled her eyes and shook her head in no. "They are probably not going to like it." She said but he gave her a smile. "It's nice that you ask me first. If this is what you want Jane, its fine with me. Nina and I have actually been thinking about the same thing after Ma's last visit."
"You have?" Jane gave him a surprised look.
"Yes. And we are seriously considering it too. I wanted to call Cavanaugh later."
Jane played with the small basketball the kids had given her last Christmas and which was supposed to be a stress ball. Her face took on a pensive look. How probable was it that Cavanaugh had two job openings at the same time?
When it suddenly occurred to her that she had become more pensive than a she had been a few years ago, she thought that it must be an age thing because suddenly she was thinking about all kind of stuff. She wasn't as reckless as she used to be.
Pushing herself not to worry too much she stated that it was a good idea.
It took her almost the whole day though to get to make the call to her ex-boss. The paperwork and other stuff had kept her busy.
Cavanaugh picked up the phone after the second ring and grunted his name into the phone. Jane could immediately tell that he was in a bad mood and cringed slightly when introducing herself.
"Rizzoli?!" his voice became immediately friendlier. "You are the second Rizzoli to call me today. Please tell me that you are calling for the same reason as your brother did." The man sighed and Jane chuckled.
"If Frankie called to ask for a job, then yes."
She could literally hear Cavanaugh jump from his chair and say: "Yes!" which made Jane wonder what was going on in Boston. "I have to talk to my family first though." She tried to calm him down, but he seemed to wave it off.
"The governor wants to have Dr. Isles back. And we want to have you two Rizzoli's and Dr. Isles back. So, I'd say it's perfect."
Jane licked her lips and dared to ask why he had two vacancies and he huffed. "You are not reading the papers, are you?"
The brunette shrugged. "No. I have four kids and …" her voice trailed off and she got interrupted by Cavanaugh.
"We uhm had a little scandal here. Two partners who have let criminals bribe them. I had to suspend them."
"Yes, but you are aware that the earliest we can begin working – at least me – is in June."
Cavanaugh snorted. "It's three months. How about you begin earlier, say in six weeks. I promise that you will have the weekends off to visit home every weekend."
Jane licked her lips. "I don't know. I will have to have a talk with Maura. But I'm honestly not happy about that solution."
She wasn't and a knot formed in her gut when she padded into Maura's office. The docs head was hidden behind the screen of her laptop and she only looked up briefly to see who was interrupting her shoe shopping.
The sergeant slumped into the uncomfortable designer couch with a huff and attracted her wife's full attention.
"Bad day?" Maura asked while closing the lid to her computer before padding over to sit next to Jane.
"Exhausting day." The brunette stated and began scratching the scar on her right hand.
"What happened? I didn't know that there was a new case." Maura gently grabbed her hand and cupped it.
"There is none. But I did some thinking about your idea to move back to Boston. I talked to Frankie. Actually, he and Nina are considering the same. Then I called Cavanaugh to ask for a job. He has one." Jane paused and took a breath to see Maura's hazel eyes doing an excited dance.
"He asked if I could start in six weeks. Which means that…" Jane didn't finish the sentence, seeing that Maura exactly understood what it meant. It meant Jane moving to Boston ahead of them, working at BPD and Maura staying behind with the kids because it made no sense to change school three month before the term was over.
"Cavanaugh is very happy though to hear that we all might come back." Jane gave Maura, who had started pacing the floor, a crooked grin.
Jane sighed. "Why don't we ask the kids about their opinion first. I just wanted to have all information before we do that. Im not sure though if we give them a choice or give them the news. Giving them a choice would be fair, but it could be that they say no." Jane looked helpless and began scratching again.
"It's three months Jane. Six of which you would be away from us. Six weekends. I think we can manage that." Jane nodded. She didn't want to manage that. She would miss them all for every single day she would be apart.
"As to the kids I would just ask them over dinner. And then decide. This is a big decision. And if we don't move back its okay as well." The doc gave her a gentle smile. Jane nodded. But now that the thought of moving home had planted its seed in her head she wasn't really willing to let go of the idea.
"Yeah. We'll see. We have time to think about it and we should use it." Jane stood from the couch and kissed Maura's cheek. "I have thirty more mins or so. Then I will be done." Jane stated and Maura smiled. "I'm basically done yet."
Jane knew though what held Maura back. "I hope you wear them for the date I'm going to take you to next week." She winked and watched amused how Maura blushed.
