Hey!!!! Here's the capture the Flag Chapter! Enjoy!
Friday came. I was pretty nervous.
I wasn't very excited about this game. This was the first time I was going to be in real danger, but more importantly, Percy was too
I wasn't sure what was going to be different, but I knew in my gut that something wasn't going to happen the way it was supposed to.
The Apollo and Hermes cabins had made an alliance with Athena. So at least that was the same. I was on Annabeth and Percy's team, which made it easier for me to keep track of them.
Chiron stomped on the floor to get our attention. "Heroes! You know the rules. The creek is the boundary line. The entire forest is fair game. All magic items are allowed. The banner must be prominently displayed, and have no more than two guards. Prisoners may be disarmed, but may not be bound and gagged. No killing or maiming is allowed. I will serve as a referee and battlefield medic. Arm yourselves!"
He spread his hands and I was pleased, but not surprised, to discover that the tables were suddenly covered with battle equipment. I tried some armor on and it appeared to be the correct size. I almost ditched the shield, but decided I would probably need it.
These past few days have taught me that I am not very good at using weapons. But the fact that I have the opportunity to learn to use weapons at all is incredible. But it also kind of sucks because, you know, I could die at any moment. But who would I be if I dwelled on that?
Percy was having a conversation with Luke. He seemed shocked that we were actually supposed to use weapons and capture the flag. And I suppose that would be strange, but you know it's camp half blood.
"Blue team, forward!" Annabeth said. We cheered and ran after her. Good thing I had practiced walking in the stupid heavy armor, so I didn't look like an idiot. I watched Percy catch up to, and talk to Annabeth.
I decided to go up there too, and be quiet unless I was spoken to. And weirdly enough I was not spoken to until Annabeth asked Percy if Luke had given him his job. When Percy said border patrol, Annabeth asked me.
"Oh, I don't know. I was thinking I could just wander around offering assistance to those who needed it."
"Absolutely not, fortuneteller. You're with me."
"Maybe I should be with Percy instead?"
Annabeth shook her head, "no, I want you with me. No arguments."
I knew she had to turn invisible at some point, so I knew that I couldn't be with her the whole time, and then that time I could probably watch Percy. Hopefully.
While Percy walked off to do border patrol, I followed Annabeth farther into the forest. "Stay here." She said.
"Gee, thanks," I said sarcastically, "glad you wanted me to come with you."
"Just stay here, until I come to get you."
I rolled my eyes, but just nodded.
Annabeth walked away. I stood there, like I was supposed to. I almost jumped out of my skin when I heard a low growling sound.
Relax, I told myself, it's just a Hellhound that Luke sent to make it look like camp wasn't safe with Percy around. It isn't after me.
Unfortunately, that's where I was wrong.
I just had enough time to bring up my shield as a huge black dog jumped from behind a bush onto me.
I nearly blacked out as the full weight came on to me. The wind was knocked out of me so I couldn't even scream.
The only thing keeping me alive, was the shield that was between me and the Hellhound.
Black creeped into the edges of my vision is it tried to dig through my shield. Then it got smart. It jumped off and batted my shield to the side.
It tried to bite my face, but I blocked it with my arm. The unfortunate circumstances there, was that now the dog bit my arm.
Without its weight crushing me, I could scream in the agony that I felt.
Annabeth came running back through the trees, and she jumped on top of the dog and stabbed her knife into the back of its neck.
The hellhound and dissolved into sand.
I spit out some that had gone into my mouth. I clutched my arm against my stomach. It was all I could do not to scream again.
Annabeth wrapped my arm. She wanted to get me to Chiron, but I insisted I could wait till after the game was over. Annabeth didn't seem to believe me, but I told her they would still win if she continued on with the plan.
Annabeth believed me. She left. I just hope she had enough time to get over to Percy in time to stand in front of him when the hell hound attacked him.
And I heard yelling in the distance.
I shakily got to my feet, and headed that direction. I had to see his claiming. What kind of Percy Jackson fan would I be if I missed the main character getting claimed by his godly parent because I was in pain?
I stumbled into the clearing just in time to see an injured Percy step into the water with water healing his wounds.
The trident appeared over his head.
Percy did not notice, "I'm sorry, I don't know—"
Then he saw it.
"Your father," Annabeth murmured, "This is really not good."
"It is determined." Chiron said grimly.
Everyone knelt, even me. I didn't want to stick out.
"My Father?" Percy asked, a bit confused.
"Poseidon," Chiron stated, "Earthshaker, Stormbringer, Father of Horses. Hail, Perseus Jackson, son of the Sea God."
I couldn't stop grinning. This had to be the best time of my life!
Then I locked eyes with Luke, and the smile melted off of my face. He looked at me curiously. I was frozen in my kneeling position.
Of course. He's sent the Hellhound after me. He knew I could see the future. He thought I was going to mess things up for him.
I decided not to be scared, I gave him a defiant look. He wouldn't succeed in his plans, I would be sure of it.
I looked down and saw blood seeping through the wrappings of my arm.
"Well!" I stood up and wobbled over to Chiron. "Now that that's done, I believe I require medical assistance."
"Oh yeah!" Annabeth hopped up next to me, "it was the strangest thing,—"
I caught her eye and mouthed, Don't tell him.
She seemed startled, but thank goodness, Annabeth didn't even miss a beat in improvising, "You'd think that being able to see the future would leave her able to avoid tripping and falling down a hill. Now, we were lucky it was just her arm, though she may be bruised in other places."
Chiron just looked at me, and I shrugged, "What can I say? I'm super clumsy."
I just hoped I was enough of a demigod that nectar and ambrosia didn't burn me alive.
Yay! Remember to tell me how I did!
