Author's note: just to confirm from last chapter; Julius is the brother of Yang and Ruby. Age-wise, he is in between the two.
The next day, Julius woke up in his room, feeling quite refreshed. As he stretched, he looked at the time on his scroll; almost an hour till classes start for him. Teleporting around the room, he quickly put on his uniform (which in his opinion was the most ridiculous thing he had ever seen) and then went around setting up his room: He hung his clothes in the closet, put up a rack holder for his sword, and even made a little corner for his guitar. He was able to get this done in the course of about 12 minutes, and then he immediately went to the cafeteria to grab some breakfast before he went to class, teleporting as he went to speed things up.
Inside the cafeteria, Julius grabbed a tray of random breakfast food (he wasn't going to be choosy at the moment), and went to find a table.
"Hey, flyboy!" a voice called, "Over here!"
Julius turned to see a brown haired girl with sunglasses and a black fashion hat of some kind waving him over. Promptly, he teleported to where they were and sat down, startling a rabbit faunus girl that sat there as well.
"Sup," the glasses girl asked.
"Not much," Julius said, "I'm Julius by the way."
"Coco Adel. I already know who you are. My team and I were there at the initiation ceremony yesterday."
"Right. And what team are you with?"
Coco gestured to the three next to her: a blind boy with red hair, a large, muscular boy, and the rabbit faunus.
"These are Fox, Yatsuhashi, and Velvet," Coco said proudly, "Together, we make up Team CFVY."
"Nice team you got here." Julius said, then, turning to Velvet, "Didn't mean to startle you there."
"I-It's okay." Velvet replied nervously, "That's a very interesting semblance you have."
"Thanks," Julius said with a smile, "Basically I can teleport anywhere as long as I can either see it or remember it very vividly."
"An impressive semblance indeed," echoed a voice in Julius's head, startling him. He frantically whipped his head around.
"Something just spoke in my head!" he shouted, making Velvet giggle.
Coco chuckled. "That would be Fox. His semblance is telepathy."
Julius looked at Fox, who smirked at him and nodded.
"Oooookay." Julius said, "So, you guys first year too?"
"Second year, actually," Coco corrected.
"I don't mean to be rude," Velvet asked, "But what happened to your eye and arm?"
Julius chuckled, "Nah, it's ok. It happened when I was about eight years old."
"EIGHT?!" Velvet gasped in shock.
Julius nodded. "A Sabyr attacked me from out of nowhere, taking both my arm and my eye. The only reason I survived was because of my aunt; she saved me from the Grimm and helped me recover."
"I'm so sorry that happened to you." Velvet said, putting a hand on his shoulder.
Julius smiled at Velvet; he liked how kind she was. "Don't be. I put it behind me, so don't be throwing me any pity parties. Plus, the mechanical replacements have their perks."
"I wouldn't be surprised." Coco said with a smirk.
"So, can I ask something?" Julius asked.
"I don't see why not." Coco replied with a shrug.
"Why exactly did you call me over? We didn't even know each other until just now."
"It's not every day we find a huntsman tough enough to go solo, but you still need a team to work with sometimes. All I wanted to do was offer our team as a potential ally, maybe make a new friend in the process."
Julius nodded as he thought about that; it seemed like a pretty good offer. "I was actually planning on working with a few teams, but I'll definitely add you to the list; you guys seem chill enough."
"Glad to hear it." Coco said, "Now, we should probably finish eating and get to class."
"Agreed." Yatsuhashi simply said, having already finished his.
…
The first class went by pretty smooth, though it was also a little boring as the class was with Professor Port, who talked a LOT about himself.
Julius leaned over to Blake and whispered. "I can't tell if he's being serious about all that or if he's full of enough hot air to fly a blimp."
Blake smiled in amusement. "I think it might be both, actually."
The two shared a small chuckle. Though things did get interesting when Weiss ended up fighting a Boarbatusk that Port had somehow been able to keep in a cage, much to Julius' surprise; even he had a hard time wrangling those things from time to time. Blake had somehow made little flags with her team name on them and was waving them to cheer Weiss on, which was odd since Julius thought Blake to be the more silent type.
Throughout the classes, Julius kept a list of teams he trusted enough to work with in his head. RWBY and JNPR were definitely at the top of the list. CFVY was also there; his conversation with them had solidified his trust significantly in them. He had narrowed it down to those three for now, but he was still willing to expand. In sparring class, he watched Jaune get beat down by a larger armored boy named Cardin, but it didn't change his mind about working with JNPR. In fact, it only gave him a lesser opinion about Cardin as he watched Cardin gloat about it.
Soon, it was time for lunch; this time Julius had decided to tag along with Team RWBY. As they sat down, Julius turned to Weiss.
"That was pretty impressive, killing the Boarbatusk back there." he told her.
"Thank you," Weiss replied.
"So, how's it been being a solo Huntsman-in-training?" Yang asked.
"It's alright, I guess." Julius replied, "I am planning though on working with other teams though."
"Which ones?" Ruby immediately asked, a twinge of excitement in her voice.
"Well, for starters, you guys."
Here, Ruby sat back, a smug smile on her face, while Yang fist pumped the air.
"I was also considering working with JNPR and CFVY, but that's all I have for now." Julius said.
"Good enough for me." Yang said, "Just as long as we're on the list."
Just then, the group heard someone yell in pain, followed by laughter, and turned around to see Cardin pulling on Velvet's rabbit ears, his team laughing along with him.
"Ouch, please stop. It hurts!" Velvet said, but Cardin kept on doing it.
"It's so sad, how people treat the faunus these days." Blake said, her voice seeming to twinge with pity and sorrow. Then she looked at Julius and got a little nervous; there a grim, angered look in his eyes she hadn't seen before.
"Excuse me," he said to the others before teleporting over to Cardin.
"Just what exactly do you think you're doing?" he said to Cardin.
"None of your business, that's what." Cardin said, "Get lost."
"Only when you let her go."
"Haha. Is that supposed to be a joke?"
What Cardin didn't realize was that his teammates had stopped laughing and were leaning back in fear; Julius' anger was building and they could see it in his eyes.
Julius leaned down. "Let me make myself a little more clear."
Before Cardin could react, Julius grabbed his free arm and twisted it behind his back, then used his other hand to slam Cardin's head into the table and hold it there. Reflexively, Cardin let go of Velvet's ear out of response to the sudden wave of pain.
Julius leaned into Cardin's ear and whispered. "Consider this a warning. Next time I see you torturing a faunus or anyone else like that, I won't be as merciful. Got it?"
"Fine." Cardin growled. Julius let go and teleported back to Team RWBY's table. Surprised at what just happened, Velvet quickly walked away to her table to tell the others of what just happened. Back at RWBY's table, Julius sat back down next to Yang. The team had watched what just happened in surprise, Blake most of all; this was someone, a human of all people, who was willing to stand up for the faunus and wasn't afraid to show it publicly. It seemed like she might be able to trust him after all, but she couldn't shake the feeling she had seen him somewhere before.
After classes, Julius went to see Team JNPR hanging out in the fields outside the courtyard. As he walked up to them, Nora noticed his approach and waved hello in her usual excited manner.
"Hey guys," Julius said.
"Hello, Julius," Pyrrha greeted with a smile, "What brings you here?"
"Just wanted to say hi," Julius replied, "How you doin, Jaune?"
"Well, considering I got my rear end kicked by Cardin and he's now having me do his homework for him…" Jaune groaned.
"He what?" Julius demanded, his face getting a little angry again.
Jaune nodded as Pyrrha leaned back nervously. "Julius, please calm down..."
"That little prick!" Julius growled, "Will he ever learn?"
"I'm telling ya," Nora said, "We should break his legs."
"I would honestly be all for that."
Nora chuckled and fist bumped him.
"Please," Ren sighed, "Don't encourage her."
"Well, whatever the case," Pyrrha announced, "I've offered to help Jaune train with his sword fighting."
"Smart move," Julius said, "with you as the trainer, he'll be a master in no time."
"Excuse me?" said a nervous voice from behind. Julius turned around to see Velvet walk up to him, Team CFVY right behind her.
"Hey, Velvet," Julius greeted, "How's your ear?"
"It's alright." Velvet said, "I-I actually wanted to say thank you for what you did back there."
"We all do." Coco added, "You really helped us when you stood up for Velvet. It's not often someone is willing to stand up for the faunus publicly like you did."
"Hey, don't sweat it," Julius chuckled, "I was just doing the right thing. The faunus are different, yes, but I prefer the word unique, and that shouldn't make them a target for discrimination."
"Well, whatever the reason," Coco replied, "You have the full support of Team CFVY now. consider it our way of saying thanks."
"That's certainly good to hear," Julius said.
Suddenly, a much angrier voice shouted at Julius. "Hey you!"
He turned to see Cardin and his team walk up to him. Team CFVY quickly moved in front, barring their way.
"Back off, a-hole," Coco growled.
"Not likely," Cardin snapped, then pointing at Julius, "It's him I want."
"What for?" Coco demanded, her grip tightening on her handbag.
"I don't exactly appreciate him beating me down in front of the entire school."
"You totally deserved it." Julius chuckled.
Cardin growled, but he didn't want to make a move, not with the entirety of team CFVY in front of him.
"I challenge you to a duel." He finally said, "Tomorrow in sparring class. If I win, you don't get to bother me when I mess with the rabbit girl again."
Julius retained his smirk. "Alright. But if you lose, you have to shut your trap, lie low, and never mess with any faunus ever again, AND you need to stop pushing Jaune around like he's some servant."
Cardin narrowed his eyes at both Julius and then Jaune, the latter of which shied away a bit before Cardin returned his attention to Julius. "Deal."
"Alright then," Julius chuckled, "Game on."
With that, Team CRDL walked away. Team RWBY was watching nearby and had seen and heard Cardin's challenge. Blake watched in stunned silence; how far was this guy willing to go in order to help people? She then smiled; maybe it was okay for him to be the risk taker he was. In fact, she was actually starting to admire that part of him. Yang was just happy her younger brother had a competitive streak that rivaled her own.
Coco turned to Julius, her face a mixture of impressed and surprised. "You really are determined aren't you?"
"You have no idea," Julius replied.
Coco smirked. "I respect that."
"You sure you know what you're doing?" Jaune asked, "Especially after you saw how he beat me to a pulp?"
"Trust me, Jaune," Julius replied, "Cardin has no idea what he just got himself into. I've been fighting enemies bigger and tougher than him my whole life. Besides, in watching him fight you, I now know how he fights, and how to counter it. Plus, he's a punk, and he deserves to get an ass-whooping."
"Fair enough." Coco said.
"Anyways, I gotta get back to my room to study," Julius said, "so I'll catch you guys later."
Then, he teleported back into his room. Grabbing one of his textbooks, he walked over to the door connecting to Team RWBY's room and knocked. Blake opened the door; her team had gotten back to their room long before he did.
"Can I help you?" she asked.
"I was just wondering if any of you needed a study partner," Julius said, "I could honestly use one myself."
"Sure, I can probably help," Blake said, letting him into their room. As he walked in, the first thing he noticed was the beds; they were made into bunk beds. But in the most ridiculous way he had ever seen.
"What on earth happened to the beds?" he said.
"Don't ask, it was Ruby's idea." Blake said.
"Why does that not surprise me?"
"You like it?" Ruby asked.
"Are those even stable?" Julius replied.
"So far," Yang said.
"Oooookay then," Julius said, sitting down on the floor with Blake.
"Just between you and me," Blake quietly said in Julius' ear, "but what you did for that faunus girl was really amazing."
Julius shrugged. "We're supposed to protect others, aren't we?"
Blake smiled and nodded; she was really starting to like Julius now. After that, Julius spent the rest on the time studying the best he could with Team RWBY; Weiss proved especially helpful at times, though Julius mostly liked Blake's more reasonable approach to things. Eventually, went back into his room to sleep, and as he laid down on his bed, he began to think that he and Blake might have more in common than the realized, though he still couldn't quite figure out where he had seen her before. Than his mind went back to Cardin's challenge, and he chuckled to himself.
"That idiot has no idea…" he said as he drifted off to sleep. Tomorrow in sparring class, he planned to bring down a beating the likes of which no one had seen yet. Not even Cardin himself.
Author's note: I absolutely HAD to get Team CFVY in here somehow; they are one of my favorite teams. I already have a ship going for Julius, but it will not be revealed until a few chapters later, so I'll let you keep guessing.
