Chapter 8
Misaki looked around the improbable neighbourhood, trying to find the address written on a piece of paper she was holding. It was very far away from the main city and she couldn't believe that she would find any decent work here. But Megan, one of her friends at the Castle who was also a maid assured her that she definitely would find the kind of employment she was looking for.
Last week, Misaki did promise Suzuna that she would send her to school, but the salary that she gets working as a maid just isn't enough to sustain the lives of Erika and Suzuna and her, let alone save them from getting kicked out from their house. Suzuna was already taking up odd errands to make ends meet, and Erika was working her ass off. She couldn't just sit back and do nothing.
Misaki decided ask the Mrs. Frlighbert for a raise, which she rejected immediately as expected.
She wished Usui was here, it's weird, she didn't want any help or money from him she just wanted him there, through all this, his mere presence makes everything easier. He has been her unconditional support for everything. There were times when she didn't even ask for help but he would just appear out of nowhere. And as much as it annoyed her she was always grateful.
After the long tiring trip with his grandfather Usui was finally where he wanted to be; near his Misa-chan. They were thinking of merging Walker Corporations with some business tycoon from Japan thinking it would increase their profits tenfold. Sadly for them, he couldn't care less. He was forced to go because his family thought that he should take an interest in their business as he will be taking over Walker Corporations some day, and he wanted to get away as far from his family as possible. No one asked what he wanted. There were two things he wanted most in life. One was to be a doctor, so that maybe he can find a cure from the disease his mother died from- Cancer. He knows it's outrageous to think that he can find the cure for something that the leading doctors and scientists of the world have failed to do so. But he can't help it. It has been his dream since childhood. His mother was the only person who was kind to him, who loved him despite everything, and losing her, watching the cancer slowly take away her life was beyond painful. No one should see their loved ones suffer like that.
The second one was he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Misaki. It's outrageous, he has only spent a few months with her, and he did not know anything about her past and he was sure that there are lots of skeletons buried there. He just knew he can't be away from her. Even the few weeks he spent away from her seemed like hell. All he could think about was her. If she was overworking herself, if she forgot to eat, if she got herself into any kind of trouble.
That's when it hit him, he wanted to worry about her, this was the first time he has cared about anyone like this. He loved that there was someone in his life he can worry about, and he was sure she loved him.
He needed to tell her that he loved her, he didn't want to wait.
The sun was almost about to set and she still couldn't find the blasted place. Where in the hell was she? She was surrounded by half naked kids playing in the mud, there were shops selling stinky meat with flies flying all over them, the vegetable shops had a very meagre quantity to sell, and there were open drains and dogs eating from them. She wondered if she was at the right place, she really couldn't believe the person who was going to hire her lived there. According to Megan, a very famous painter lives here who wanted to capture the essence of England in his works and some of his paintings will reflect the misery in England. She also said that he was looking for an Asian beauty to paint, and Misaki will be just perfect. She will just have to model for him every weekend and will get a very satisfying sum of money. The work was perfect for her, she wouldn't have to come every day and they pay was by the hour. She thought about how much she could help Suzuna with the money but first she had to find the damn place.
The address said it was a yellow coloured building and that it should be easy to spot in this neighbourhood. She finally decided to go inside a shop and ask for directions.
"Excuse me," she opened the door of the shop, from outside it looked like a restaurant, as soon as she opened the door; she was immediately hit with the stench of alcohol, piss and vomit. There was food all over the floor and people bawling at each other.
It took some time for her eyes to adjust to the dim light, but when it did, she realized that everyone was staring at her, and that it was the local pub. There were only men in that room looking at her through hungry eyes, with the possible exception of a few young girls wearing dresses that was just enough to hide their private parts.
Misaki is quite smart when it comes to solving problems and equally dumb at recognising when she is surrounded by danger. Misaki entered the filthy bar went straight to a bartender serving drinks and asked him the address. The bartender ogled her from bottom to top and he couldn't.
"The address?" Misaki repeated herself for the second time. The bartender finally tore his eyes away from her and looked at the piece of paper. "Well, it's a little far from here; you will have to walk fifteen minutes on east."
"Okay, Thank you sir."
"Why don't I offer you a drink i am sure you must be thirsty."
"I don't drink", Misaki said sternly.
"Oh come on now, everybody drinks, okay how about some water, you look exhausted."
Misaki compiled, she actually did need that glass of water.
She sat down on one of the stools as the bartender got busy pouring her a glass.
"Look what we have here lads" a gruff male voice with breath like garlic came and stood behind her. He put his hands on her waist and said whispered into her ear? "A hot piece of ass shouldn't be sitting without a drink in her hand."
"Remy, Get a beer for her." He said to the bartender.
Misaki immediately stood up and slapped his hand away from his waist. "Get your hands off me and I am not here for a drink."
"Okay, sure thing," the guy raised up his hands in defence and gave her a smile that made her sick to the stomach. He then walked away, signalling to the bartender.
Misaki was offended, MEN. Why do they think they can have anything they want, that they can treat any girl like their property. She needed to leave this stinking place, coming here was a huge mistake. By now all the guys in the room had directed their attention to her even the girls were giggling about something the men were saying about her.
Misaki drank her glass of water and got up to leave but before she could make it out to the door she collapsed on the floor.
