Chapter 2
New Dawn
The sky glittered with a gloss blue light as the sun rose from the bottom and into a sea of clouds. Lights spread like wildfire as it provided warmth and visibility towards living organisms. As a pair of pterosaurs flew by, a beam of light bolted towards a nest and a small dinosaur sheltered by a clutch of broken eggs. As Zak opened his large caramel eyes, he gazed upon the sunshine for the very first time. Above him, several Eudimophrodon's flew past. At his surrounding, he saw several critters at different areas. Birds perched atop the branches, bugs crawled underground and rats scampered towards roots and shrubs. Amazed, Zak pounced out of the nest before he dashed towards a rat. Hearing footsteps, the rat instantly jolted towards a small burrow. But unfortunately, the infant Tarbosaurus was faster and with a swift movement, snapped it's jaws right into the poor critter, killing it. As Zak took a meal of his newest meal, he decided to leave after looking forward due to his curiosity. As Zak gave chase towards the sunshine, a swarm of insects feast on the remains of the dead rat. As Zak made it towards the sunshine, he was surprised to see the mainland below a slope. Excited, he immediately dashed towards, but immediately tripped and tumbled towards the ground with a thud. Zak managed to get up with little problems and after seeing a Pteranodon soaring on the horizon dashes off to the lake he saw earlier.
But, unknown to him, an unknown predator was watching him in the shadows of the conifers. He licked his saliva in hunger as he growled viciously. The monster decided to move on, undetected. A few pterosaurs were perched on his grey stripes in his back.
Zak carelessly dashed towards the lake while also looking at the flora as well. He looked at the massive variety of shrubs, cycads and conifers that made up most of Isla Sorna. Towering redwood trees to little roots, all of it amazed Zak. Zak then ran underneath the dense foliage, but despite obscuring his view, it didn't matter. All he wanted was just fun. Suddenly, Zak hit something on the head, causing his to stumble and get a dizzy temporarily. After regaining control, it was reveled that he hit a cycad by accident. But that didn't matter. Instead, he just scampered off, until he reached the lake. Upon arriving, Zak was awestruck by the amazing view of the lake itself. He then heads towards it and starts to take a drink from it. He even attempts to swim, but eventually backs away, seeing that he is too nervous. Elsewhere, a large Quetzalcoatlus flew overhead. Zak didn't mind and instead spent most of the time playing at the flower meadows around the lake itself, chasing insects and butterflies. It seemed like paradise, until a rumbling footstep shook the ground.
Curious, Zak turned his attention towards where the sound came from and darted there to see. But as soon as he stepped on the vegetation, he started to become more nervous as he felt like he was being watched. But nonetheless, he continued to travel through the dense foliage, until he stepped on a pile of twigs. Zak was about to advance, when suddenly, the obscuring conifers ahead of them were immediately brushed off. In seconds, the shadow of a giant mouth full of bone-crunching teeth glared towards Zak. Frightened, Zak stumbled to the ground, and though he later recovered his footing, he was paralyzed by the mere sight of a large monster. The monster then growled hungrily as a mouthful of gooey saliva dripped from it's gigantic jaws.
For a moment, there was silence. Suddenly, a flock of frightened birds flew away from the trees as the foliage started to shake left and right and the ominous sounds of the footsteps grew more and more larger. In a flash, Zak brushed his way out of the conifers, yelping for help. Behind him, the foliage was trampled by what appeared to be a massive tyrannosaur that was strangely colored orange with grey stripes. But what terrified Zak the most was it's skull-like pattern on his face. Zak ran as fast as he could for his life, but soon enough, he felt like he wouldn't make it. The tyrannosaur roared aggressively as it tried to crunch Zak with his jaws. Deciding he had no choice, Zak leaped into the lake, barely surviving an attack from the tyrannosaur's teeth. The tyrannosaur stopped for awhile before he looked at the water closely. Considering him dead, the massive theropod growls in disappointment before he leaves for another prey. Once the area was clear, Zak comes out from another side, miraculously alive.
Zak took a look around the lake, seeing if the tyrannosaur was around. Suddenly, he heard the predator's loud roar from far away. Although Zak got terrified, he knew he wasn't in danger. However, the loud calls of a sauropod echoed throughout the forests. Zak was alerted by the fact that the herbivores would drop in at any time and that he had to leave as soon as possible. He soon leaves the area, but not before taking one last drink.
Upon arriving at the nest, Zak felt tired and collapses upon his home (The nest). As a hatchling, he is immature and isn't ready enough to see much of Isla Sorna. But however, he does know where to get his food resources. And up until then, he has never seen a predator like the one he encountered earlier. Eventually, the young Tarbosaurus yawns loudly before he drifts asleep, as the lake is once again inhabited by the herbivores.
Elsewhere, the tyrannosaur has managed to hunt down and kill a lone Stegosaurus. While he was unable to kill an infant, he was satisfied by the fact that he has acquired a meal that would satisfy him for days. He growls has he starts devouring chunks of flesh from his prize...
